Hello fellow XDA'ers! Very recently I have been playing around with Photoshop and I have tried to make simple yet elegant Boot Animations. I am learning new stuff everyday and hope that after a while I'll be able to create some very unique and beautiful ones. So take a look and if you can, tips and criticism will be welcomed
I will post the animations as gifs so it might not fully represent how it actually looks like. I also have a 480x800 phone resolution, so at the beginning I might only provide that kind of resolution.
If you like my work, Press the Thanks Button!
Boot Animation #1:
For this one I grabbed an Abstract Wallpaper from WOW, For The Horde's guild logo and Placed Andy in the center. Applied some blur and color configurations and voila!

Instructions:
1. You have to be ROOT for this to work.
2. Download the zip file and place it in your SD Card
3. Download ROM Toolbox as you need 2 of it's features. First being a Root Browser, cut the bootanimation.zip and paste it in /system/media.
4. After that go to the third page, Interface, and open Boot Animations.
5. Open Menu then click on "Backup" followed by "Restore"
6. Click "Reboot" and it will load the new Boot Animation.
ENJOY!
thank you very much!
Boot Animation #2:
For this animation, I took a wallpaper with Andy on top of a Circuit Board and I simply typed up "android" using the Droid Sans Font. Added a drop shadow and an outer glow as effects.
The maximum gif file size is 10MB while this one is 20MB, so I could only create an online representation using 10 Frames. This is way smoother than the previous animation. So take a look, and tell me what you think!

Boot Animation #3:
This one was made within an hour or so. I got the Android style from Androidstickers.com and I placed a suitable background. I used Opacity increments of 5% since doing it by 1% takes TOO much time, and the final products are very close so yea, enjoy!
EDIT: Oops, forgot the download link!
Here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/?72ab2bmohkbsbjv
Boot Animation #4:
So as a request, I used the same "Android Army" picture from Androidstickers.com and added a couple of backgrounds, added some shadowing effects and also a bit of blur etc. Hope you like it

Boot Animation #5:
So for this one, I basically based it on my favorite ROM which is EaglesBlood and I spent some time cooking it up since I had to look for some good images, and then I applied a bunch of effects, cleaned it out a bit and other stuff. Well, enjoy

Since no one made any WelcomeHead images I decided to throw a couple together. They are both dithered so they should look nice on larger screens. I have a VGA device so the dithering just looks like a single color. You will have to let me know if they need to be changed.
To install simply download and install the .cab file of the WelcomeHead of your choice. Then soft reset your phone and you will see the image appear for a few seconds while WM loads. If you want to revert back to the original simply install this .cab!

This simply changes the colors of the original WelcomeHead to match the GTX style.
Download .Cab
I swapped the default Windows logo for a GTX styled one and added the "GTX" text. Kept the color scheme from above WelcomeHead.

If you would like to see more, or want a custom logo in place, let me know!
another nice one
Well I installed it on my GTX Energy ROM, and it's just stopped the OS from loading, I can't get past the Energy ROM splash screen, I have taken the battery out 5 times and it still hasn't booted up. I need to hard reset now.
*Edit* Okay, 7th time lucky and it loads, I think I'll be removing this little addon...
*Edit edit* Yup it did destroy my phone, I had to hard reset in the end.
cant open the download page
simple, n nice welcome head, love the design but cant download it. help help

Seriously!? Wow, the .cab simply copies the welcomeHead.## images over to the /windows folder...
If it would work better I can simply attach the .png images and you can copy the correct resolution on for your phone to the windows folder.
Very good ! Let me try it!
Here are the windows logo welcomeheads...simply copy to the windows directory for whatever resolution for your phone. If you are unsure of what resolution you need just copy over all three - your phone will use the one it needs.
Also, best use resco explorer or totalcommander to copy and don't forget to say yes when asked to overwrite existing file.
and these are the gtx logo welcomeheads....follow instructions from above post!
...Cab removed? Any mirror?
sorry but i have seen better startup images (ill be honest)
good try though
download
you will need to rename them to animated.gif and welcomehead.png
Hi We have just created some tools for user to create their own Android Live wallpaper, This are some sample of what we have created and I believe you could create something better
-- Newly added is the ability to create live wallpaper which could react to user touch. or an icon drop. You now can create LiveWallpaper that is reacting to your touch.
-- Recently added support for Sound event
-- Added Text input, and gallery creation on the wallpaper

To download the apk search for ownskin in Android Market.
To create your own content go to http://www.ownskin.com/livewallpaper
A video demo of the capability of the Live Wallpaper creator
Comments and suggestion are greatly welcome
This is great app. But I cannot find any wallpaper in download section. The list is empty. Is there anyway to store one on sdcard, so to be able to start using the program?
What phone model are you using ?
It will detect the resolution of the phone and present the Wallpaper that is tailor to your screen size
this might be off topic but in the last screenshot what is the name of that widget you are using?

I'm using HTC Tattoo which is qvga(240x320). I suppose that there isn't any theme for that resolution, but the default program's wallpaper(this with the instuctions) appears fine and I can choose it as wallpaper. So I think that I can make or edit another theme and resize it to fit to this resolution. But where can I find them or how can I do this and where must put them?
this only work for android 2.1 and above which support livewallpaper.
resolution supported are: 320x480 (HTC Hero/Magic etc), 480x800 (Nexus One etc), 480x854 (Droid etc)
where can i find the one with the hands in the screenshot above...
The hand in the screenshot look for "desire"

1- fix some FC in froyo
2- fix some reflection after do customization
3- add option to remove object
this is for now. i will go more and report.
you are the man
cheers
Works great on HTC desire, would happily pay for this app.
Looking nice and promising, i'll try as soon as possible
Ok, looks great, but other than moving certain elements around, how do we actually customize (make our own) lwp?? Is there some kind of PC app to download? Is it web based?
I guess I'm asking, whats running on the laptop?
Im not able to download or install any of the wallpapers on my unrooted desire
im not able to install this /htc hero cdma
says problem parsing package
On my Desire, it says there's a sd card problem, cannot read
Looks really cool
This is R2D2 inspired boot animation for Android. it's pretty simple and straight forward.

I made this to work with my Kaiser running VaniljEclair RLS7c
I was thinking about making another version where R2D2 shoots a laser beam at an apple but it needs a lot of work, I'll probably try with it later
How to install:
on WM devices with Android installed instead of WM (Kaiser, Vogue..etc)
Unpack the attachment, and copy androidupdate.tar to your SD card. put in andboot folder
Now you have to Install the update: I quote this from “How to replace Windows Mobile with Android”
Place the SD card in your phone and power on your Kaiser. When you see text on your screen hold down the D-pad. D-pad is that button in the center of your up, down, left, right buttons. Keep holding down the D-pad until you see something like this appear on your screen.
Click to collapse
Choose install update: you will see then some lines and then word Installing.
When finished, choose quite, or soft rest.
You’re done enjoy your new boot screen
For Android HTC devices:
Extract the contents of androidupdate.tar, you will see bootanimation.zip, then you might follow the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623960
I wish I can explain more here, but again I don’t have Android device. Just a HD2 and my old Kaiser.
I got the R2D2 picture from this site
http://www.members.shaw.ca/david.p.z.888/star_wars/r2-d2.html
And the loading animation from this awesome place, it has tons of customizable loading animations
http://ajaxload.info/
I have also made R2D2 splash screen for Kaiser, I'm not sure whether it will work on other devices or not..
Thanks a lot for zenity for providing the programs to make splash screen
Make sure you back up your data before messing with your deivce
I hope you like it
Thanks Duke, lol, I'm just gonna download and install these both on my kaiser.
Your just lucky, I keep all sorts of stuff on my HDD, some of it's bound to come in handy someday, ( packrat mentality, you should see my attic, well, if you can get past 15 years of stuff that I may need someday.....).
Just a quick note, the Kaiser IS an android device, just not a Native android device
Lol
I was like you. but my HDD failed couple of month ago, and I had to start from scratch, and many of the older stuff aren't available online
The kaiser is definitely an Android device, and I'm loving it. my only wish is that if it had a flush screen.. that would've been very nice.
I can't wait for a similar android for my HD2
Lame thread title, I know, but I need someone that knows a lot more than I do to help out with a couple ideas I have... I have 8 themes out for 3 ROMs for the Moto Droid 1 so I'm legit... lol
IDEA 1: NO MENU ICONS - System wide though..

On this screen shot all but 5 of the icons are gone, just an enlarged text instead like the expanded menu... I left that 1 icon as a reference.. All I did was make the icons 10x10 and transparent and made the text bigger.. pretty simple. But all this will do is make all the system apks I theme have that effect.. but if a data/app is used, the pop up menu will have an icon AND enlarged, cut off text... Can't have that now.. My question is "is there a way to have the system bypass even calling on or using ANY menu icons across the whole phone?.. Like put an @null somewhere?... The idea would be cool and I wanna complete it so any help would be great....
IDEA 2: ANIMATED LOCKSCREEN/ PULLDOWN - No screen shots for this one but I'll explain it.. I'll leave the pulldown out since I haven't messed with it yet, even though it was my original idea back in December.. The concept to have both or just 1 of these run a cycle of pngs to create an animation.. like live wallpapers do, sort of... then themers could use those png's to create their own animations... it's something different and I think would be very cool....
In res/layout/keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml the background is usually pointing to #70000000 for a 70% transparent lockscreen background.. I write in @drawable/lockscreen_background and toss a png into the drawable-hdpi folder cause I like having a set bg for my lockscreens... What I did is make it @drawable/lockscreen_bg, wrote(copied the stat_sys_upload.xml) a new xml named lockscreen_bg and put it in the res/drawable folder.. I set the duration to 200 and had all 6 of the test anim.png's listed just like the stat_sys_upload/download have, then I tossed 6 png's into the d-hdpi folder.. it compiles up fine and once applied, It reads the first anim.png but doesn't cycle them... upon some reading, I think I have to tell it to run() or start() the animation but that's a little beyond me.. the pulldown would actually be quite similar to the lockscreen background if that one is even possible... but it DID read my xml and read the first png in that xml so I think I'm on the right track.. I just need some help from anyone that has some insight into how animations run... thanks...
Hey guys, I finally realized my "dream" of having a portrait mode version of the awesome Google Arcade animation that displays fullscreen.
The original can be found Over Here, and was created by Scar45. I didn't do anything with it except take 720 version and rotate it 90 degrees counter clock and then redo the desc file.
I actually ran it through Boot Animation Factory, which did the trick.
I have tested this zip on Codeworkx's excellent CM10 ROM, and the animation works, although it gets a little choppy at times (just like the "stock" CM animation).
My version does not include sound, but you could easily add it in if you wanted.
As with any of these kinds of things, you'll need to copy the bootanimation.zip file as is into /system/media, set owner to root:root, and permissions to rw-r--r--.
Makes me happy to finally have a portrait mode animation
