On my Vivid, whenever I change the volume while playing a game, the game will freeze for a moment, then unfreeze when the volume bar goes away. On other games (well really only on PopCap games, which is strange), it will freeze the game, then force it to load again. I currently am using Holliraider 0.25. This did not happen before I flashed that rom. Is this fixable, or should I wait for the dev to fix it?
I'm having the same issue on RumRaider Beta 10.
see i think it to early to flash ROM's, the scene need more devs and at least a year. I hope my this time next year or even 6 months we will have many choices.

without people using roms at the early stages, how do you expect us to work out the kinks and bugs?
hopefully you understand the time, effort, and work that goes into these types of things....
FYI Not having the issue with Rum Raider Beta 11

Seems to me everyone could benefit from these ROMs being beta tested a little more. I'm ONLY running the DG leaked Froyo 2.2 but I've got it setup like I like. I'd love to flash a custom ROM but **** they're updated sometimes daily but at least bi-daily.
I rarely have the 30 minutes required every 2-3 days to flash to a new ROM, and make sure everything works.....
Anyone else in the same boat?
I get your point but to be fair to the devs our phones can do a million different things. It is hard to test each operation. When a new rom comes out there will almost always be rapid updates as bugs are identified. If you do not want this then my suggestion is wait a week oro so after release, it usually settles down.
On top of this, some of us like flashing every day, kinda like a fast kid likes cake.
There are roms out there that offer no wipe updates. Once you flash the rom, updates do not require you loosing your settings and apps.

2.2.1 is the latest Froyo for Captivate.. So choose one that is optimal for you and you can stop flashing till 2.3 arrives. BAsically all ROMs keep changing the kernel, apps and modems that you can do yourself!

Not necessary to flash each change unless it fixes a fault you have been experiencing.
Gotta remember there like us flash junkies... they find some new shiny toy and want to build and release it to us.
Most of the time everything works out great - sometimes there are bugs which actually get fixed instead of releasing a tool that does absolutely nothing (i.e. Samsungs GPS tool on the market)
I'm just happy that the chefs/devs keep cooking new ROM's to make my phone better

I guess they could just leave it buggy and not fix anything as time comes by. Some people are only experiencing certain things at certain times and perhaps the devs are either not catching things as they test it out their selves or aren't actually getting some bugs that happen after they release it. So yes, there will be many update changes as time goes. Just be glad they're putting their own personal time into making custom ROMs so you can use them for your own personal use FOR FREE. I have no problem with it and I don't have time to flash everything 30 minutes either.
Conclusion: Free custom ROMs are posted and we more or less test them and the devs fix them as they find out whats up. Be happy and just go with it or quit using them!
I am thankful for the devs and thankful for DG's contact who leaked the 2.2 build that I'm running (plan Froyo leak) but if I had a dime for everytime I saw a post that said
"damn I just flashed [soandso's rom] I wish I had waited" I'd have like $5.50
Every update I've done so far takes at most 5 minutes, and will not require any backing up or restoring or anything.
Welcome to the final release of Froyo, by the CCRoms team, which means you guessed it, we're switching gears to Gingerbread after this release. With this release we managed to get the Evo/Emerald going as intended(sorry for the wait.) The Galaxy S style pulldown power widget has been implemented in this release as well. Gem settings have been completely re-written as well, to provide a more intuitive and easier to understand interface for everyone, and of course bug fixes abound.
downloads available at: http://www.ccroms.net
Note:
Droid X users, at this point there is nothign more we can find to do to improve battery life. When/If the battery starts to drain fast, gets sluggish, or gets hot, reboot the phone this will put the race condition causing all of these problems back to sleep, unfortunately there is no way to put the process back to sleep once it wakes up and if you kill the process kernel panics and the phone reboots anyway.

How do you plan on bringing gingerbread to the droid x when we won't have the proper kernel to take advantage of it?
Are the "known issues" (GPS, camera/camcorder, etc.) fixed in this release?

for the record, a kernel is nothing more than a core piece of low-level software that executes other programs and provides access to the hardware. nothing says that when you upgrade an android version you MUST upgrade the kernel as well, if anything you just might need to modify how android interfaces with the hardware to match the old kernel interfaces.

I don't understand the gps issue or the camera issue. If there was fine GPS and a camera i would love the fact it is AOSP however not that i use them all that often but if i loaded it i would inevitably need one or both. and its still beta if you can't get a totally stable and working froyo rom how will you ever get the GB stable. Will the kexec(?) be used to use custom kernels to make the gps and camera work?
I just booted this up seemed ok other than the problems known but for some reason it wouldn't let me download anything from the market said I didn't have enough room.... Idk y that happened

same here. it's been reported in other obsidian forums too. i was able to get around it by using an older version of market. i installed cm gapps instead of obsidian gapps. The cm gapps had a version of market from 2 month ago. everything worked fine. then i updated my market to 2.2.11 and the "There's not enough room..." error message was right back again.
other than that, i really love how clean and fast this rom is. thanks a ton cvpcs and best of luck with the cyanogenmod team.

what...? What!? That is completely wrong... Nothing says you have to upgrade the kernel... unless Gingerbread uses modules not currently in the present kernel, which I can pretty much guarantee it will... Your statement could hold true for something such as minor update like 2.2 to 2.2.1 as we saw earlier, but would very like cause many things to not work come gingerbread. A good example is the previous hacked upgrades of 2.1 to 2.2 back before the proper kernels were released (specifically in memory of the HTC Incredible) sure, 2.2 could run without the proper kernel, of course your WiFi wouldn't work, GPS didn't work, if you tried to run the 720p camera it would crash, as well as several others that I cannot remember as of this moment. The kernel is not "just a low level piece of software" it is the backbone of your entire system, especially when it comes to the system talking with the hardware itself.
I think Taco that you should reread CVPS post. It stated this...
"nothing says that when you upgrade an android version you MUST upgrade the kernel as well"
Which is what you said was wrong, then said the same thing following it.

I think it was pretty much dead on arrival when it said the camera & camcorder didn't work...that's kind of a mandatory feature of any smartphone.
If it's been fixed...then they're lame for not updating the page noting the bugs.

Well that sucks ..development on this phone is so slow..
The worst part is the x HAD so much potential, do to great things. I have watched this forum since the day the x launched and the sad thing is that the tbolt is only 6 days old right now and has a much larger devwlopment thread than the x has had at any point. Sad to say it but i think moto phones are done in the development community.

The X development has all but ceased from what I can see. Such a bummer since I'm stuck with it for another year and a half. Hopefully we can see a few updates to some ROMs once gingerbread rolls around for the phone, but after that I don't see much reason for hope.
True...so what was the most annoying issue with this rom? Im thinking about flashing it. Im on 3.4.2 now.
Also you can sell your DX on swappa.com then pay the difference and get a htc.
I am about to get a well handled second hand Optimus 2x.
What I would like to know before closing the deal is if this phone still has problems with random reboots and/or BSOD?

If its running Froyo, which im guessing it is, then probably yes. But then you might be lucky and get one that doesnt have the issue as bad as some people on here. Some people have reported the issue happening every few days. But for me it only happened ever month or so. Seeing as gingerbread is out there is some countrys (officially for some of them) then this might fix the problems but who knows - only had it installed for 12 hours so far...
I will probably use some custom rom, or at least root it.
Have people reported random reboots with official GB?

I am also on miui 1.10.28 + owains tweaks (includes swiftexteme). I have used stock before and it was very bad experience. Right now with miui its friggin amazing. I will recommend everyone to try this setup. I dont need to setcpu or keep turning wifi and 3g off. The way the phone was intended to be is how it is right now.
Word of advice, DO NOT STAY ON STOCK ROM. I'm not saying miui is best or cm7 is best, they actually have proper modified stock roms by topogigi and others which are million times better than stock.
For a few weeks there the leaks where coming one a week, sometimes two. Now nothing. Wonder if its the calm before the OTA storm.
This is just another piece of evidence in my theory that someone somewhere has made it their job to sit there and **** with the hackers and modders all day long.
The thought has crossed my mind to just go back to 100% stock, but I'm just too addicted to having at least root.
If you ever installed any of the leaks, there is no going back to 100% stock.

Generally, traffic like we've seen means one of a few potential things.
First, a specific phase in dev is complete. The testers provided, information/confirmation of results and they are moving on to next phase.
Second, they are now in a bake period, letting it sit ages days before processing for release.
Third, it's is ready but don't want to release with Razr. Normally multi releases are no big deal but they have a nice budget for advertising and are releasing in multiple formats. They may want to have some focus.
My guess is 2. 8 weeks post release is still early for an ota, so they have time. Reading up in the results of the ota seems to indicate a fair amount of success. Some last minute fine tuning may be in order. I doubt they want to stretch this to the week of thanksgiving...so its next week or december. Just my opinion
I'm just glad they leaked what they did. Really helped me not smash my Bionic into little tiny pieces. I hope they are still working on it because there are still problems with it.
The leaks have stopped bc they have pushed out a final release candidate till the next update.

I got crucified on another forum for suggesting multiple releases. They might burn you in effigy.
One other factor is that the devs working on it are likely playing their cards much closer to their chest, now that Motorola seems to be actively working to counter the efforts of developers. So, I suspect many things are going on with the devs, and likely releases are being found, but they're not being discussed.

With a locked bootloader, No. You can restore the stock system but the radio and kernal cant be rolled back because the update only goes one way.

I disagree. As I recall (I haven't done it with the latest file format from Motorola) you can reset the entire phone using the fastboot restore files no matter what version of kernel/BP you have.
You start by flashing the "cdt.bin" file first. This resets the signatures that are verified on all of the other partitions.
Then do the entire set of files which will completely reset all of your partitions on the phone + the BP code.
If it's not CDT.bin first, then it's 1 of the other partitions, then the CDT.bin, and then the whole set of files.
Okay, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the development for our device.
Recently CM decided to no longer support Tegra 2 devices as they are starting to get dated. So basically that boils down to the fact that the CM10.1 will be the last one for our device that I do.
Currently I'm trying to jump start the process of putting out our updated kernel from 2.6.36.4 -> 3.1. This will hopefully put our device at a point where everything should work.
DerArtem is the lead developer on the kernel, but has been busy because he just got married and works a full time job, which puts a damper on his time (which is understandable).
I am putting in an 1-2 hours every morning on this, trying to fix those bugs and was just tipped on a possible way to minimize the overload of the log with the USB error. This will be a hold off till we get the kernel done as these issues should go away after the update.
I am sad to see this tablet come to an end (though not yet). We all have to admit that its time we all start moving on. I am going to push to get these last bit done and call it quits. This can take anywhere from 2-5 months to finish up, maybe a bit longer and then our device will be done.
I have had an amazing time learning about Android under DJ_Steve and DerArtem, and thank them for taking the time to teach me.
I thank you what you done so far and in the future. Can blame you one bit for your decisions.
I think setting an "end game" is respectable, and is a good goal. The kernel work is the key to smoothing things over on what has been wonderful development thus far.
The fact you've taken us this far sir is very commendable and you and the crew deserve many thanks. For your time and efforts, you have my gratitude, and my tablet serves as a hobby rather than a shelved device.
4.2.x has been flawed since release by Google, and with the way android has evolved, future versions will undoubtedly require more current hardware and OEM support. The latest tablet releases have as much computing power as a 2 year old laptop! Thanks to you, we've managed to play with JB, and I look forward to what comes before a final release.

Wow, I hate doing this, but I may have to close up shop on all this. Severe lack of any real work is getting done as I am looking for jobs and trying to have some game time as well.
The time to do this isn't worth it. I may ask for payments for my next ROM ($1 per download). Seriously, I hate doing it but this just isn't worth it anymore. Currently working on a AOKP release, to see if this may resolve any bugs I am having.
Hi giveen,
first of all thank you for all the time you spent on our old device. I already donated you some time ago and always had an eye on your progesses. I really understand your decision to ask for some payment for all the work and that is absolutely ok for me.
I use my DS7 (wifi only) on a daily base to check my mails, surf the net and stream some TV and video from my HTPC. Until now I use a HC 3.2 mod (514 mod by dreamer) together with V6 Supercharger script and am so far quite ok with that. So far I see no need to buy me a new tablet as long as the DS7 fits my few needs
But before I collect all my courage and update my DS7 in the near future to your CM10 build I want to ask a few things:
1. Is your build already stable and usable enough for the things I do with my device?
2. Any news from DerArtem about the kernel work? Will there be a new kernel for our device in the future?
THX,
Michael

If its from your HTPC, I honestly don't know as I have never tried it before. This latest build is much more stable, though it still has the gmail keyboard crash that I am tracking down. If you are happy with what you have, don't do anything. I would hate for you to make a purchase and not be happy.
I haven't heard from DerArtem in several weeks because he is in another country (Russia) doing a job. (He lives in Germany). To be honest, I don't think a new kernel is going to happen and I'm really upset by it.

One issue I see here is that when you start charging, a person paying for it like a app from the Play Store, they expect things to work. This "might" cause you to spend more time than you have been on it. Just my $0.02!
Didn't somebody donate an unused DS7 for DerArtem for this kernel project?
