hTC Hub and hTC Sync - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

hTC sync is still beta but some of the features work so i would like to keep this just in case if i ever loose my phone. The lock/ring features work and location some what work. So this is good to have, hTC Hub on the other hand seems useless.
I would like to remove Hub but afraid it will break something from hTC Sync because they seem connected. Has anyone removed Hub but still use hTC Sync?
Also what about sound set, Hub and sound set shows as running services in System Panel.

Hub is where you get your HTC Widgets, sound sets, wallpapers, themes, etc. Why would you want to get rid of that?
Short of a custom ROM or root + freezing, you're not going to be able to. HTC Hub is an integral part of Sense UI.

is it not just the online repository?
It should not disable any widgets currently installed.

It's the online repository as well as how the "find my phone" feature on the website locates your phone. Either way, it's not really using up any resources, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't just leave it alone. It's basically part of Sense. If you don't want Sense, then root and install a custom ROM.

I removed HTC hub, but left hub sync providers. No problems so far here.

Moto Phone Portal

Pretty cool. Works with my G1 and Cyanogen 4.1.99. Try it out.
http://rapidshare.com/files/305341350/PersonalPortal.apk
Recently some of the system dumps from the upcoming Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid hit the Developer community, and they have been trying to piece the puzzle together of what the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid is all about. We got our hands on a new app which looks like it will be front and center when the device finally hits the shelves, Motorola Phone Portal.
Those that remember using the Motorola Phone Tools app to hack their Motorola’s back in the day (I’m getting all “Ahmad – Back in the Day” about my v600, v810, and RAZR) will instantly recognize this little gem, but it’s been updated for Android and provides some pretty cool functionality. Basically, Motorola Phone Tools (MPP) serves as an all-in-one phone manager that allows users to easily view, edit, create, delete, and play their contacts, ringtones, photos, wallpaper, and media. The key difference now is, the app is web-based and you log into your phone from directly from your browser! No installing “modems” and drivers on your Windows machine (painful), just fire up the app and press the “Connect with Wi-Fi button. When you press the button, the app prompts you to either turn on Wi-Fi, or connect over USB. For this experiment, I chose Wi-Fi.
MPP lets you add/edit/delete/browse your contacts, photos, bookmarks, browser history, and media in an easy-to-use interface. Playing media directly from the device in the browser worked very well, and the picture viewer/slideshow feature is pretty damn cool. So with MPP you’ll be able to play/show-off your media anywhere from any browser. If Moto adds a Social/Sharing aspect to this, they will have a winner on their hands.
So there you have it kids, a little taste of what’s to come with the Sholes/Tao/Droid. The original Moto Phone Tools was a pretty handy app (when it worked), and the new MPP looks to be just as functional, if not more so. I am sure it will help a lot of users manage their contacts/media/content when it gets released, and the ability to do slideshows and play media from your device directly from your browser is pretty slick. I hope Moto adds more features and functionality to it as time goes on, but this seems like a sign of good things to come. Grab the .apk file below and play away!

Doesn't work on my hero
It asks to activate wi-fi even if it is already active. Tried to start-stop wifi before and after i opened the application. any guess?
Thank you!!
Ok, I figured how to make it working, the phone must be connected to a network to be used, but I though it creates an ad-hoc wi-fi connection to work with.
BTW great app!
This thing is great. I wonder why more people aren't interested in this....
Sounds cool, I'm going to test this out later
pretty slick...
Nice that you can mange contacts and view the contents of your sdcard etc. Similar to AFile and others but a bit more "moto". Could be neat! I imagine that the majority of users would never set up a secure login though, could be fun to sit in a crowded bar and scan for active devices running this on port 8080. Imagine the havoc that could wreak!

I did set up a password. Though it looks like it still does not use https ! So not really secure either....
Some bizarre renderings on Firefox, but it's a simple and cool way to administer your phone from your computer.

USB doesn't work on my G1. Wifi does though. Wonder if its the Hero rom or the drivers causing the issue??

This is such a useful app!
Cool! Thanks for the download/headsup!
does this connect via USB or only wifi?
What does this do exactly? I have to connect to my wifi network and make sure the computer is connected and then what?
Is there a specific process to join the phone and the comp together?
I tried using a remote desktop client but didn't figure out how to get it working, is this the same?

Is this possible?

Dont have the phone yet, waiting for it to come in, played with it at Tmobile store, and was under the impression that the home screen is tile based, then i see pictures as i have put bellow, is that type of home screen lay out really possible on this phone? to mimic very much of the HD2?

That application is called HTC Hub and it comes with (and is available to download for free) for anyone with an HTC phone with Windows Phone 7 on it.
That being said, this will not replace your start screen. Your start screen cannot be replaced. So you have to open this application each time you want to use it. It does not stay open and you cannot let it run on top of your start screen. So this is in no way a start screen replacement like HTC Sense is for other non-WP7 HTC phones.
That being said, its a rather useless application since it can't stay open all the time, and even if it could, its much too over-the-top and flashy and doesn't really have any real features aside from the clock and weather.
It will be a better app if they can improve the live hub that sits on the start screen - have that display weather, location and time.

I have an issue with the HTC Hub as well but it is not location related. My HTC Hub does not play the sound effects regularly when I am looking at the weather forecast.
I have ensured that they are set to ON, have rebooted the device, etc but the sounds just refuse to play.
Anyone with a similar issue or any advise on this?
Thanks...

I dont have the Live Tile issue but my sound effects dont play as they should. I believe I had this same issue before I updated to NoDo.
Its not the end of the world for me if the sound effects dont play but it would be nice if they did.

[Q] Email screen on mod

Is there a way to have the screen turn on when I get a notification? More specifically an email. I did notice in the Roms section there are tweaks to have SMS screen on.
There are apps in the play store that will allow this but they all require the accessibility settings to be turned on which affects how the lock screen works so looking for a way to do this without using an app.
Thanks

You'll either need a different rom or an app, it might be added by an HTC update at some point but I haven't read anything about it. I think HTC thought the notification light was good enough...
I use sms popup for texts. There is an app called notify me in the play store, that if you purchase the pro version you can set up different apps to have the screen turn on. The free version only allows sms.

Thanks, Ive tried that one but as I mentioned earlier it has to be enabled in Accessibility Settings which makes the locksceen not work correctly.

Trickdroid is pretty sweet and stable plus they have wake on sms and you'll get the update that hasn't come to a lot of stateside folks yet. That was a weird feature not to get though, I came from IOS and thought all phones integrated it these days

Yes I've put Trickdroid on it and allows a lot of customization which is great. I too came from iOS as that was just getting a bit dull and samey!! However I do miss how good it was at the notifications...
I do like this HTC One phone though...:good:

[POLL] Which IR Blaster remote do you use?

Do you stick with the stock option (WatchON) or use a different one? If so, which?
50/50 for me. I use WatchOn that came stock on S5. The original one had some minor problems (couldn't change channel) that the new one does not. Looks uglier but works better.
So technically 'Other'.
What still ticks me off about it is the need for an internet connection when I launch the app.

Mine always asks, but still allows me to get the full remote, just no show preferences. There is also a way to add it to the drop-down menu.

How very weird. I guess it wants it the first time you launch it, after that I've kept turning on the wifi for the launch, then turned it off. Just tried it, both WatchOns start without trouble. I feel a bit like a doofus. The S5 one no longer even asks.
Also smart remote here. It's not the one with the best looks but at least it's supporting all my devices - not just the sammy-sanctioned ones. And I can create custom remote layouts just the way I like them
