Data issues after throttle - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Hey everyone,
To start, I use on average about 2-3gb's of data per month & I am grandfathered on the unlimited data plan. I used about 5gb this billing cycle and got a couple texts notifying me of being throttled. Once throttled, I switched over to the HSPA+ APN so I could still have good/decent speeds. However, since being throttled and using this new APN I'm having data connection issues where only the left arrows transmitting but I'm not receiving. So basically I time out and the only way to regain data connection is via airplane mode/unchecking & checking mobile network. Basically restarting my connection to the towers. Just curious to see if any other users have the same issue I'm having. I'm also running Holiraider Rom if that may make any difference. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Data Plan questions...

So, AT&T kills you on a monthly data plan, unlimited for $40 a month are there any alternatives for getting a monthly data plan or do I specifically need to go through AT$T for that service?
Also, I use the "No Data" feature which is awesome by the way to essentially turn off the data to and from my phone, I use WIFI. Someone sent me a text message the other day that I did not receive I assume because I have the data turned off on my phone, as planned.
Is there a way to get around this, t receive messages when connected via WIFI or is that specific to the data plan associated with AT$T?
TW,
u do not need to turn off your connection when using wifi. when you have wifi turned on and properly connected, all data usage will be through wifi so no charges. your phone calls and txt will still come through normally. you can call/email att to confirm, i did. plus you can also check your usage online and it will show no charges for anytime you are using the internet through wifi.

I can get sms through my web connection? I thought SMS came directly from my provider?
Is there a way to use another provider for data service?
TW,
I use Unlimited MediaNet for only $19.95.
That would be the best choice if you want to have data wherever you go for less then the DataConnect plan.
Well if you're without an access point that is.
I've been using it for a while now, and I use quite a bit of bandwidth a month, (IMplus / Tethering pretty much all the time) and it works great.

I've heard this before, I pay $39.99 for MediaNet unlimilted...so how do you get it so cheaply? The tethering can be done with ease but getting caught could encurr the wrath of ATT $$$$$ !
I'm sorry about that.
I'm using MediaMax unlimited.
Its unlimited Data /w only 200 texts a month.
I shoulda mentioned that. =/
Slayer6234,
I know I have the option of downgrading to MediaMax Unlimited online (account access) but I've contacted AT&T and they told me this is not supported so I'm a little leary to change it and have it cost me in the end. How long have you been using this? If it works fine I'll just downgrade and see what happens.
Thanks.
I've been using it for about 2 years now since I got a flip phone with a browser.
I've talked to AT&T about it and they do "frown" upon not using a dataconnect plan with a PDA but I've been using it with the HTC for 3 months and nothing has happened, plus I would just say that I have a flip phone that I can only use medianet on, and that I switch my sim to that from time to time.
The tilt will automatically connect/work with MediaNet.
The PDAconnect / Dataconnect plans will still get you on edge/3g, its just a fancy, more costly way of getting you there.
MediaNet will do the same... and you dont need a tethering plan with the tilt because, well, you have a tilt.
Slayer6234,
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a whirl.
I think I might no longer be confused ... MediaMax is still a service offered through AT&T (https://www.wireless.att.com/media/cingular_video_purchase) at a reduced rate...
So, you can't get an external data plan from another vendor for your phone although @ $20 bones I think that falls in line with everyone else's plans.
TW,

Three UK 2G data access

Anyone else experiencing this:
I'm fully aware that when I'm out of Three's 3G network, that my mobile roams onto Orange's 2G network.
Since I took out my contract back in January, I've frequently disabled 3G connectivity on my N1, to save battery life, and I've been happy to use Orange's GPRS/Edge data services. It's not ideal, but it's about getting the balance of battery/connectivity.
Now, I've noticed that for the previous week I have been unable to use data at all whilst roaming on Orange; I've done a little research and found that normally data access isn't available when roaming at all??? See here: http://admin.electricpig.co.uk/2010/02/08/three-no-internet-is-better-than-gprs-internet/
Now, is this true or at least representative of other peoples' experience, because it certainly hasn't been the case for me, up until last week of course.
Or was I just 'lucky' up until now?
Found the answer from another forum: http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=104624.
Basically, the APN must be set to three.co.uk opposed to 3INTERNET when roaming (a recent change it seems).
Been using 3 roaming in UK frequently... IMHO a good deal as you ain't charged extra...

[Q] AT&T connectivity issues

Hello everyone. Been wrestling with this all day. I purchased a barely used samsung galaxy tab 8.9 AT&T 4G LTE. It works fine with wifi, but I want to use it on my worksite where there is decent signal, but no wifi. Bought an AT&T SIM card, and put it in. I have full bars (signal), but no internet access. I have packet data turned off, as some forums have indicated this could fix it, but to no avail. With wifi turned off, the tablet status still says mobile network disconnected. Anyone have any ideas of what I could try? Thanks for any help.
EDIT: With packet data turned on, AT&T's data tracking widget says initializing, then goes to connection failed. With packet data off, it shows appropriate data usage (0mb at this point) and displays signal, but it still says no internet connection.
Did you get the right plan provisioned for the SIM? The Tab 8.9 is configured to use the "Broadband" APN by default so if you're not provisioned for that it won't work.
You need a data plan and a lte sim.

Mobile data connection unstable?(tmobile)

Anyone with tmobile noticing the mobile data to be suddenly unstable.
I live in north texas (dallas area) and I've noticed my data connection to randomly not connect and I am forced to retry connecting to web sites, playstore downloads, etc.
Either 2 things. TMOBILE in your area is having issues or you did something and it messing with your mobile connection.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
I added unlimited data to my plan (up from the 3gb plan). And ever since the data doesn't seem to be stable.

Hotspot provisioning hack?

I'm currently on Verizon with unlimited data, but am considering changing to T-Mobile. On Verizon we have to hack the hotspot provisioning to get around Verizon's limits on hotspot data usage. It's my understanding that the $80 T-Mobile unlimited talk, text and 4G-LTE data allows only 7GB of hotspot data usage per month (or at least that's what they told me).
I'm not familiar with T-Mobile versions of the G4, but does a hotspot provisioning hack exist that will allow unlimited data for hotspot usage?
I normally use about 35GB of data per month. Does T-Mobile throttle you?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but would appreciate some advise from those with experience.
Thanks,
-Joe
I did the exact same thing as you, switched from VZ to TMO. Much happier - when I get signal. Loving the 12 band of LTE, I get signal pretty much anywhere when I lock my phone to that band. You can't beat TMO's unlimited plan either. Yes, there are a few TetheringProvision hacks around. They're all dependent on what model phone you have and what firmware you're running. If you'd give out your phone brand/model and what version of Android you're running, you're likely to get some info either in the forum or privately.
