same things happening to mine. the lower half of my volume button is almost completely copper.
I think that's a flaw thats found only in the white vivid. Ive seen other threads on here talking about it happening to them, but all those users had white devices as well. So far I havent heard of anyone with a black vivid having the problem. Ive got a black one and it's buttons are just as shiny as the day I got it. Havent figured out HTC's reasoning on going with different power and volume buttons on the white phone than they do on the black phone.

Unfortunatelly my friend had worse problem with his white htc vivid.
this colour started to become black. HTC support said that this is due heavy use.
I've ordered for him new black back shell from online shop he replaced it and it looks awesome. After using since 3 weeks buttons are still like brand new.
I'm about to purchase the white one, but i will be promptly applying the trident aegis case to it. For those of you who are experiencing the discolouration, are you using a case, or no?

That's actually when I noticed the copper color forming. I put it in my otterbox commuter and when I took it off a week or two later, the keys were looking copper colored. I put it back in it for a next few days and of course, the paint rubbed off some more. Lol

this is quite unfortunate. :-(
would you say that it is so bad that you wish you had purchased the black one? i sure had my heart set on the white, but i'm quite particular about keeping my devices in mint condition. ugh. quite a dilemma.
how long have you had your phone? wish i had seen this before purchasing mine. i went through hell to put my hands on a white one instead of black - lol.
been using it for about a month and so far so good. only on the back i see some weird deterioration - that HTC logo is looking a bit odd, as if the edges of the logo are coming out. can't say for sure though.

The HTC logo on the back looking funny is caused by your grubby hands! If you grab a paperclip or something pointy, you can scrape it off! Gross huh?

No Changes on My Vivid
Have had my black Vivid for nearly 11 months. I use it daily, hitting the power button numerous times. Volume button does not get as much use. Both are still the original color. Quality control in the manufacturing process may not be consistent, so that the plating on the buttons can vary from one batch of phones to another. That could be part of the problem. But I can't help but wonder if perspiration, and other stuff, on our hands might be part of the problem as well.
The bigger issue is whether the buttons work. My old HTC HD2 is pretty much DOA now because the power button wore out in less than 2 years of use. I am more concerned that the Vivid's power button will still be working a year from now.
YES, I've had my vivid since may 25th.. I have 2 one black one white both have the issues AT&T told me it was my fault, it was rust from getting wet and etc, I know it wasn't my fault I never get my phones wet, or even the steam from the shower can turn the stickers they are both white and they refused to return and exchange my device because of it.

I hate the branding. It really takes away from the look of the phone.
Anyways, can't complain too much. This phone rocks. I cant wait for root. I'm going to make a tweaked build.prop for everyone to use. I'm sure I can get it to benchmark better than the SGS3. So who cares I guess, all phones these days look alike practically.

No.... just no. I really wish people would stop saying this. You're all .... anyway:
There's a big black bar at the bottom for the same reason there's a big black bar at the top.
A) to put your hardware. It's gotta go somewhere. Bigger screen on top of the hardware, would've meant bigger/heavier phone.
B) There also has to be big black space at the top of the phone for the ear piece and the camera.... It has to match at the bottom, or else the screen wouldnt be symmetric.
Try this with me. Just for a second:
Hold your phone in landscape mode.
Imagine that you didnt have big black areas at the top or bottom
You'd have nowhere to rest your thumbs, and your fingers would be on the screen.
Also imagine how the screen would look offset to the bottom of the phone.... EW.
It matters less in portrait mode because you can squeeze the phone between your fingers & palm naturally.
When in landscape mode, you'll have to use two hands, and holding it with friction would be uncomfortable and unsafe.

I could careless for a screen larger than 4.3" the Atrix HD 4.5" is perfect.
I know there is hardware under the logo area. Also on the top end you have the notification LED, front camera and light sensor.
The complaint with the Death Star logo is that its right smack in the middle like the Iphone home button.
The Atrix HD looks really clean without buttons, but the logo disrupts the clan look and feel.
No one is really crying about it. Its just a frustrating after thought on behalf of AT&T. They could have placed it on the back with all that other serial number and LTE information is stamped.
I know that moshi screen protectors will cover the logos so you cant see them. I had one on my Atrix 2 and it was a really clean look.
I'll just have to wait for Moshi to make one for the MAHD.
So far I just have a universal one that only covers the screen area.
I got the screen protector at the AT&T store, its great, covers the whole front of the phone, but it leaves a window for the deathstar. i'm probably gonna put some black something under it to hide it eventually. I think it's subtle enough. but it would've been much better on the back.
I promise you that wasnt added there by designers. it was added by a business person.

When I was watching some of the reviews on youtube, I thought the AT&T logo was a physical button. Why does AT&T have to slap their
logo on every phone they have? I have the Samsung S3 from Rogers and there's no logo on the phone. Pretty much all the Canadian carriers
don't put their logos on the phones now because everyone was complaining about it. I hope the Bell version of the Atrix HD don't have any Bell branding on it. I have to get mine from Bell because it doesn't look like Rogers will be carrying it.
If you want a really good screen protector that will cover the branding check out the Moshi screen protector.
Moshi Black Anti-Glare
The preview shows a Atrix 2, but I placed a phone call for an order earlier yesterday asking if they had it and Customer rep said they had it online.
It's 25 bucks, but worth every penny. I have one on my Atrix 2 and it covers all the branding. You just plop it on, no need to squeege it, or spray it with water. You place it on dry and its guaranteed not to bubble.
I had a amber from a bon fire land on my screen. It melted the edge of the screen protector, but my screen was fine.
I just peeled off the protector and used a pocket knife to scrape off the burnt piece.
The protector is very thick, and it would help with the Atrix HD's super sensitive screen thats notorious for selecting icons in the middle of a swipe.
I have been reading the threads here for a while, and alot of you all, have returned several Nexus 7's for various reasons. I'm trying to compile a simple bar graph, to see why people are returning their units. For me the final straw was the Color Hue/ or Tint correctness, or lack thereof.
New on is on par with iPad, 3 just not as bright or vibrant but at least my Blue is Blue now (not Purple)
So have at it.
For me it's been screen raise/separation, screen flicker and one of mine wouldn't charge with the device on, only when it was off.
I'm on my 7th one which has been perfect so far.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
For me, it would be that the price was too high for what I was getting. Also I couldn't do nearly the things I thought I could do with the tablet. It was barely better than a front end for a web browser.
Wait, we are talking about returning an iPad to buy a Nexus 7, right?
Can't see any reason to return mine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Returned my first Nexus 7 because the colors looked washed out, whites over saturated, and sometimes the screen looked very over exposed (later I'd find out because of video playback).
Unfortunately I wouldn't realized until a couple returns later that all these issues were common on most (if not all) Nexus 7 tablets. I was confused early on by comments of "looks perfect" and "looks as good as my iPad 3".
But after 4 tablets, I'm pretty much convinced the washed out colors, white saturation, and video playback issues are universal. So my first RMA was actually pretty pointless.
My second and third Nexus 7 tablets however had raised glass. Two different types of raised glass though. On the second one the glass was bulging on the left side and could not be pushed down. I never opened the back to investigate what might be causing it. The third Nexus 7 was raised, but I could push it down. So I put a couple small clamp on it, left it over night and it's stayed down a couple days now.
Slight screen separation but I'm not going to return it for just that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Screen separation, light bleed....thats it. Only 2 things, but they affect the most important part of the device, the screen!
RMA'd two units due to flicker. The second unit also had a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen, and a yellow tint to the screen. Waiting on my third unit to ship this week, hopefully problem free!

First one was for a dead pixel in a terrible spot for ebook reading, and it was otherwise the best unit. The other two were primarily because whites had a sickly yellow tint. All of them had screen separation to one degree or another, and all had the flicker.

Severe screen lifting on first (though not returning since I seem to have fixed it).
Second one going back because gyro/accelerometer/compass all way off and the frame has a kink/dint in it along with a small amount of lift and screen movement..
I have fairly washed out colours but I don't see that as a problem, I prefer the toned down colours to my overly vivid phone colours.
Deleted
The washed out colours is a software problem in tegra3 it will be resolved soon.
Bought first one from Sam's on the 13th, returned due to screen lift. Noticed it after a week of heavy use.
Ordered an 8 from Google. Right out of the box, minor screen separation. RMA went through yesterday, getting a replacement.
I was more upset about a strip of stuck pixels in my second unit when I called in the RMA, but that wasn't there anymore the next time I booted up. Other than the very minor screen separation, which has not significantly progressed in the two weeks I've had it, I have no complaints about this unit. But I will be exchanging it anyway because I'm afraid it will get worse. I haven't been using this one nearly as much.
Here is a picture of my second unit. Look at the far side. The left bezel is a thin silver line, interrupted by the black display where the screen isn't flush.

I returned mine because I bought an extra one by mistake. I had ordered from OfficeDepot first, but when they said they were backordered, I made a new order from Staples. As luck would have it, they both arrived on the same day. I returned the one from Staples because Staples is closer to where I live.
First Nexus 7 from the play store had a bad digitizer. Returned it and got a RMA replacement with a bad head phone jack. Took a little effort by me but I got it working by sticking a needle in the jack and fixing the pins on the inside.....I still got bad crackling from my speaker but its not worth returning it and waiting on another tablet to come in.

I was thinking of exchanging it for another because of the washed out colors. Its not too bad but I wasn't sure if this was common. I started reading more and more people with the same issue. So I'm keeping it. Its not too bad and I have no other problems with it. Here is hoping maybe an update can improve it.

The IncREDible S
Hi all
I want to share my project The Incredible S. It's not finished this time, but is going to be in the next days.
A friend has dropped his phone out while he was driving his motorbike. The result of this little accident was a completly destroyed IncS-Housing:
{

}
My friend bought a new phone and gave the IncS to me.
The Idea
I decided to buy a new housing, the phone itself was fully working and the screen was not broken. I searched on eBay for some housings and found a red one that looked very nice. I fall in love with this and bought it.
The Assembling
After 3 weeks of wating for shipping my housing, I began to disassemble the Incredible and build it into the new housing.
That was sometimes difficult, especially the screen that was glued with a ton of glue and sticked to the housing and was very hard to remove.
But I also handled this hard part and assembled my new red Incredible S that will replace my black Incredible S.
The Failing :silly:
But the first try failed: After some days of using my phone, I recognized a screen lift. The glue isn't sticking anymore and dirt went between glass and display. Also i destroyed the display a little bit: It wasn't illuminated everywhere the same.
And the tip of the iceberg: I killed the digitizer, a have about a half cm in the bottom part that doesn't work anymore.
As summary: The housing looks nice, but thats all. I have a phone that looks good but can't do really much (like the iPhone )
The never giving up (aka the second try)
So I again ordered a red housing, but this time with a new display (Glass and Display as one part, they hold together now).
Add 23.12.2012:
Today I tried to build my Red phone as the display/glass/digitizer and the red case arrived. The button light is taken from the other case, since there are still working fine.
Before I built the Screen into the case, I tested the functionality of the phone and digitizer without any case. Sadly, I killed my button lights with my dissasembling from the old case.
Now I'm awaiting some new button lights and hope that I can have my complete red Incredible S this year.
What do you think about my project? Do you think red is a good color for a phone? Would you have yourself a red phone?
P.S. I know my english is not good, I had a hard day at School and my brain is now too f****ed up to write something english with correct gammar and so on...
Sounds interesting, good luck. I also dropped my phone 1 week ago, screen was fine but the casing has a little scratch(not like yours posted in picture, mine is barely noticable).
Let me know how it goes I am curious as I might replace mine too in future if I drop it more .
Looks cool bud. You didn't order a new digitizer? Or did you order a new LCD and glass and digitizer?

I remember when I dropped my phone on the street and scratched the whole front... I'm glad HTC replaced the front because of a motherboard problem and a broken vibrator (sounds weird but I know no other name).

Because the housing has some glue in it. And when I disassemble and reassemble, the glue doesn't stick as good as it did. So I bought a new housing.
And the housings and displays were chepaer then a new phone: 70swiss francs vs 450-600 swiss francs for a new phone.

Now that you've owned the device for a few months, is the aluminium back full of scratches?
I am thinking of going naked, but haven't got the courage to do it. I don't drop my phones, so it's just scratches I'm concerned about.
And no, I don't want to install wet-application skins like Best Skins Ever, Zagg, etc. The reason being the One has gaps on the back where the white plastic lines are. I know they advertise Zero Gap, but it's not water-proof. The phone might be fine after the installation but who knows if the liquid indicator has turned pink inside.

Whoa! No clue what you've done, but I've had mine for over a month, never in a case and it still looks new. I'm actually impressed!

Yeah me too! I ordered that HTC red and grey case but its on back order. Ive had my phone for about a month now and have had a few light drops down my bedside, and have put it in my pockets pocket's with keys on accidents and honestly, I am very very impressed.
Oh yeah! I just remembered it fell out of my pocket in the car and slid under the seat, twice. I thought for sure I would see some damage but not a chance!
I do however have the slightest stratch that you can see if held in the very right light. I also have a tiny tiny blemish. I'll post pictures for you.
I have intentionally not babied my phone and I must say I'm impressed.
Pictures to come.

Dropped mine on a concrete floor face flat down from about a bit higher than knee height. Only got a very small dent on the chamfer.
My black One looks the same after a month. If I clean it a little bit it already looks like it comes right out the box.

Mine has some minor scuff marks on the aluminium from 2 drops from 1 meter onto stone slabs, and one drop from table onto a wooden floor. It's a slippery phone so I should have it in a case, but it looks far too good for any case.
Someone handed me an HTC One the other day at an outdoor barbecue.
After awhile I realized what they we trying to politely tell me as they were handing it to me.
It was mine.
No idea how it slipped out of my pocket.
No idea what orientation it was in when they found it lying in the ground.
All I know is after closely inspecting it for a few minutes I finally located a small blemish on the bottom right rear corner. It took quite a while to find it in very good light. No internal damage that I can tell.
And I'm *still* never going to put a case on this thing. It's like a jewel. It gives me pleasure every time I pick it up.
If I destroy it in two months, it will have given me $650 in pleasure just from holding it. If I had it in a case it could never give me a penny's worth of tactile gratification no matter how long I used it.

+1. I completely love the look and feel of this phone. A case is just sacrilege.

Ive had my HTC One for a month or so now and i use a the official HTC flip case and screen protectors and all i can say its worth doing. I learnt my lesson from my previous phones that i didn't think of putting a case on and they look like crap now. so the first thing i do is buy a case and screen protectors plus im not the most careful of people so this just adds peace of mind.
As careful as I am, I still end up dropping the phone now and then. Usually a very small drop, but still something I grimace at.
I've had this phone since the middle of May; not a long time. As time goes on, I will care less and less about the micro scratches that would inevitably happen when using the phone naked. At the moment, however, I'm still admiring how sexy the Black is. At the moment, I'm still hesitant to use it out of it's case.
Maybe after a year I will be ready.

Mine still mint, more or less... my son knocked it off an end table IN A CASE and the case knicked the top and bottom slightly on the edge. Go figure........
Now I only use a case at work because it slides on its back on my desk and that will wreck havoc on the back of the phone with scratches.

If there is a clear skin I can put on the back that fits exactly, I would consider going naked.
I noticed two scratches on the top speaker cover today. They're from my case

Its been about 2 months now for me and it's never seen a case or screen protector. I, like many others here, think it would be shame to cover up this phone and I can't stand the way screen protectors feel and collect dirt/scratches like immediately.
Absolutely no damage on mine, not even on the chamfers. I've dropped it 3 or so times, once on hardwood, never on concrete fortunately From the various posts I've read on XDA the consensus seems to be that it's a very robust phone with a lot of people dropping it without damage.
When I get paid from my new job I'm gonna take off this cheap light rubberised case and get a UAG case and a Steinheil screen protector, I've seen countless story's on xda with people who didn't have protection on their phone dropped it and it smashed it's just not worth the risk after paying all that money.
My two cents anyway.

I got mine by the end of April. Never had a case on it and I'm in love how it feels at touch. I'm always very careful with this beauty but this morning the alarm rang and I think you already know what happened. :crying: it has a small crack on the right corner crossing the home button all the way to the right edge. I was always against cases other protective covers for this device but now I feel so sorry.
suggestion: if you still have your phone intact just by a freaking insurance or ..a case.
Hello!
I bought a used HTC One last week, it's a perfect unit but it looks like it has a very slight black ghost bar on the top,it's noticeable on white backgrounds.
Could it be screen burnin or just bad screen glue?
In case of burnin what are the fix?
any photo?

Burn in isn't possible in LCDs , only in amoleds and CRTs

yeah it looks like a glue or bad LCD panel
you should replace it by warranty if possible
or just stick to dark themes

I don't think it has warranty, anyway I will sell it once the M8 is out, meaning in only 2 months.
I had another unit before this one with a purple tint issue on camera and beleie me this faint vague smoke on top of the screen is nothing compared to it, though I wonder if burnin repair apps available for amoled can do magic here

It looks like the screen was pressed real hard on top, or it hasn't been put in properly. Happened to my iPod before. And dude, after all the sh*t you went through with this phone you still want another HTC? I'm personally never gonna buy HTC again.

I spent 2 months with an S4 and while it didn't have any problems at all it was a VERY boring phone and I felt how great Sense UI is!
You can't estimate how much HTC and its Sense are nice but when you use another phone for some weeks.
This very slight faint ''burnin'' is really nothing at all,it's exactly placed at the statusbar level so you won't notice it because it fells ''natural''.
BTW on amoled screen you can't let it ON more than 10 minutes because you risk to have burnins very easily.
I wonder if using screen burnin fix apps could overheat the internals and end up killing my camera lens (purple tint issue)?
HTC phones always had low quality controls,my uncle's One V screen had a yellow spot on the screen most probably due to glue, though with time it wearied off.
Usually I have luck with HTC phones but with the One I had a purple tint issue after 3 month on my first unit, a zebra effect on camera on my 2nd unit (returned it after 24h) and now this ''burnin'' or glue or whatever, but again this black tint is really not a big deal specially if I will get rid of it in 2 or 3 months.
I still take much more joy using my One than with the S4.

Hmm. You have a point there.. But until the next flagship came, at least one of these would be less boring than the s4

I can't live without Sense and VenomX since I am back to One
