Hi guys
I want to buy a new phone. But I don't decide what I buy?
Can you help me?
I can't play vivid because vivid isn't sell in Turkey. I ask you because if vivid is better than s2,I cause the bring overseas.
I want to learn vivid and s2's advantage and disadvantage
Ugh, another one of these. The last one ended in a flame war. Both are similar and have their pros cons. If you thoroughly enjoy sense then get the vivid. If you like touchwiz or prefer a lot more roms to choose from, then go s2. A lot is just personal preference. You aren't going to have the vivid forum push you towards the s2 so why ask here?

I picked the Vivid because of screen resolution.

Alright, this is it. I have decided to get a new device, because after talking to my sister and finding out that she needs a smartphone in the near future... So, I have shortlisted the select few, and I'm trusting XDA's OT crew more than I trust anyone else. So here's the definitive list, and I have to decide by the 23rd of October (her birthday), so no waiting for me.
And no, I will NOT give her the new toy. It's mine.
So, without further ado, please vote with your clicks.
Just getting your thread up on top again so you can collect some more votes
galaxy s 2 what else is better?
I'm on the app so I can't see the poll... However, I say the sensation... I love mine.
Sent from either my N1, NS, or Sensation 4G
I want an evo 3d gsm
Either Nexus S or Galaxy S
Results are all over the place
Not gonna decide yet, so keep voting!
Voted for the play cause thats what i want
ADR6300
Go for the SGS II
One of the best smartphones on the market, if not the best
One more thing (don't you hate when people say that...lol) I also have a Nexus S and right now it's actually faster than my Sensation. Obviously that should change once s-off is released for the Sensation. So that would be my second choice... And since you are looking at an October time frame Ice Cream Sandwich is rumored to be released around thanksgiving/christmas time frame or a November/December time frame if you prefer....
Sent from one of my phones..... If only I could remember which one....
just got my sgs 2 it is amazing, it's plastic-y but very light and thin so that with a case it's still thin and light.

How dare you leave us.... Anyway I give you 2 options: 1. Sensation 2. Wait until something even better releases

I have a Galaxy S2 the best phone these is so i highly doubt ill be buying anything again for quite sometime.
In case you were wondering, these phones were shortlisted because they are the top-of-the-line phones that are currently available for my carrier of choice under a small subsidy.
@dexter93,
Xperia Play or Sensation.
Xperia for the gaming and Sensation for the power
And the race heats up between the stalwart HTC Sensation (as flogged so mightily by the astute Babydoll) and the oh-so-shiny Samsung Galaxy S II (which I actually clicked on)!
Keep the votes coming in! I need to know that I bought the wrong/right phone when I start using it
Samsung Galaxy s2!!!
Best decision of your life!
Considering how bad the original galaxy s and the galaxy tab are I would go for the sensation (and it feels better)

I may be murdered for posting this (im on tapatalk atm so cant vote) but have you considered waiting to see what wp7 mango handsets are worth buying when they are released around October time. Just a thought. If you're sticking to Android then I have to say galaxy s 2, its just awesome.

Hey guys, I am currently on the HD7 and am looking to trade for a Nexus One or even a Nexus S (any band I guess). I am just here to see what your thoughts are on the device. Honest opinion, I dont really have money to put in on the side, do you think I could do better than the Nexus One? I have a guy that will 1v1 a Galaxy S 4G as well. Is the Galaxy S4G better than the Nexus One?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Get the galaxy a,. Better cpu and gpu + google still supports it
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
If you're looking to unlock and root the N1 (if it hasn't been done already) then it won't matter if Google supports it or not. You may be able to get ICS through future ROMs. The SGS 4G's better gpu really only matters if you want better graphics...and the cpu isn't that much different. If I could do it again...even with the phones out there now, I'd get another N1. I've had mine since early last year and I've had zero problems with it up until it got dropped into a cup of beer. So, it's built very well and it runs as good as the day I bought it.
I really like the design of the Nexus One. Its gonna be a tough choice.
Lots of posts complaining about the latest Samsung devices, Galaxy SkyRocket & Galaxy Nexus.
I started out the month of November with both the HTC Vivid & the Galaxy SkyRocket. I kept the HTC Vivid for myself after a week of using both and this morning I received a shiny new Nexus.
ICS 4.0 seems buggy at best, and while there are some nice additions, they took too much away from the device. Search functions are crippled, no flash and inconsistent menu items make navigation a bit hard at times. Facebook is broken (menu again) and it will not function as a USB storage device, media profile only.
Once again, Samsung has disappointed and I feel great about keeping the HTC Vivid.
I don't think that's a fair comparison. ICS has not been created for either device.
While I do.agree I prefer the hardware of the vivid comparing Gingerbread with.Sence 3.0 overlay to a beta ICS without proper driver support doesn't really work

Samsung is so half-ass.
Samsung went and sat in a room and said what can we do to lure iPhone users. What do they love about their phone?
They went and 1upped them in all those aspects. Problem is, I don't want an iPhone or a super iPhone. I like the Vivid and I've been a fan of HTC since forever. Wasn't a moto fan, but the Atrix was impressive. People hated on it, but to be honest it was great (unlock bootloader or not).
I dont want an over saturated screen, feather weight, colorful device (TW4 and their icons).
edit: Am I still dreaming to think companies like HTC and Moto can start releasing vanilla (+unlocked) versions of their devices? I don't need it to be subsidized!
This all really a matter of opinion--they're just phones. But I've done my fair share of fiddling with Samsung devices in the past. I've never really liked my dad's Captivate and had a friend with an SII. I was moving from an iPhone 4 to an Android device when I was looking at my upgrade options. HTC was extremely attractive to me, so when the Vivid came out I went to a local AT&T store and looked at the Vivid and Skyrocket (literally) side-by-side. The Vivid won out for me and I have no regrets. If someone else likes the Skyrocket more, then cool. So far though, I haven't been extremely impressed with Samsung's line-up of smartphones...
When it comes down to it, its user preffence, I've owned afew HTC's and can see the pros & cons..
Same as owning countless Samsung devices..I can see the pro & cons
Build quality on HTC phones are great but way to heavy, not my cup of tea..
HTC screens are not the best, not saying samsungs are but I actually like the colors on my S2, watching movies or really anything looks amazing..
I do agree on samsungs part of half assing structural phone quality ..but the screen and balance outweighs it all.
About the Galaxy Nexus, it seems to me abit rushed but the reality about Galaxy Nexus is alot of people forgetting that most apps are not yet compatible for android 4.0 or haven't been updated, so that's where you get alot of complaints ..also saw something about volume going low by its self, probly a software issue that will be addressed soon..
On a positive of Nexus is there support for there devices, no one can deny that.
I enjoy most devices and tinkering with them and basicly flash the same rom on all my devices, so I don't really mess around with touchwiz or sense..let alone blur
Im a big AOSP lover so either I'm on Cyanogen or anything based of AOSP..
So since I mod my phones I look into..
Development support..
& Specs..
If I wasn't gonna modify my device I'd get an iPhone..(which i also own)
My beater phone right now is a HTC Glacier, not the newest phone but it works..
Just saying..didn't post here to cause any drama but the main point is user preffence.

So i have the AT&T Galaxy S II right now. I want an LTE phone with a 4.5"+ screen...
the Vivid looks pretty nice.
Questions:
-Is the Vivid's bootloader locked or unlocked?
-Is Vivid going to get CM9 officially?
-Is the build quality good? Better than the Galaxy S II?
-Is the battery life as good as the GSII's?
-Is it worth going with the Vivid now, or should I wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD or the Sony Xperia Ion?
Thanks for the help!
Bootloader is unlockable via HTC dev site
I have owned the sgs2 aswell and the vivid is far more heavy but I feel like it is crafted better, however more breakable screen wise.
HTC has stated that the device will get ics first quarter 2012. So as long as we have willing devs we can get cm9, there are already a few working on it unofficially

I have the Vivid but I'm goin to be takin a look at the Ion when it comes out. 4.6 HD screen,12mp camera and LTE sounds good. I like the Vivid but I have a problem with gettin new phones when they are released.

Tbh anything over 4.3 just seems too much and SE has failed so hard in recent years I have a hard time believing they are gonna hit one out of the park.
The SGS2 was great for dev, now that the vivid is bootloader unlockable were gonna see some movement here. It's getting exciting.

I'd wait for the Ion.
Came from the skyrocket and I do not regret it at all. Vivid feels like a phone. Skyrocket feels like a toy. Vivid screen is better. Skyrocket is good also. Vivid battery is great for me on a Rom I'm working on. Skyrocket was only good on cm7 . Table will turn once we get cm7 or cm9. I'll have to give the Vivid the belt between the two.

Coming from the SGS (the first one), I bought the SGSII only to return it for the Raider after two days. I never liked touchwiz (I used ADW launcher) it's to simple and not very friendly. The widgets suck and the UI is to iPhone, with its big color full icons that take way to much room. The lock screen sucks even on the SGSII, if you enable pin/password etc you loose the ability of notification on the lock screen and no notification led (unless you use bln and backlight keys), this was enough to push me away. I like the ability to see text, change tracks, see the weather all without unlocking the phone and still have it locked with a pattern. Yes i tried Widget locker and al though it worke it involved to many widgets and apps just to get what the Raider already has.
These are the few things i disliked about Samsung and they are still an issue with the SGSII, all in all the Raider in my opinion is the far superior phone despite what reviewers say, if Samsung made the touchwiz better and not stip everything that is android i would have sticked with the SGS.
I had the Captivate before this Vivid so i personally am blown away haha. I have two co-workers who have the skyrocket and they want my white vivid. I personally love both phones but i recommend the vivid especially if you are planning to do any rooting. As of now i get about 2 days battery life using RumRaider beta11 with fairly heavy use considering i sell phones. Like everyone has said the vivid is heavy and you can feel it but i have noticed i drop light phones more because its hard to feel when they are slipping. the vivid of course doesnt have the amazing samsung screen though which is to me the only downside. Im running 47mbps on my vivids LTE which so far none of my coworkers have got on there Skyrocket. HTC also i believe is a far better company. its all personal preference though when it comes down to it. Either way i don't think you will be disappointed.

I however can tell a difference. I've had my Vivid since I picked up mine and my wife's white Vivids from Frye's in Atlanta during their 80 dollar sale this past Sunday. Coming from the 800x480 resolution display of the Inspire, this is more, well, Vivid. To me, there is a BIG difference between the displays in the resolution department. Yes, the Samsungs have vibrant displays from the SuperAMOLED+. However, the resolution is only 800x480. The Vivid, on the other hand, has an equally beautiful qHD display. The resolution on these badboys is a healthy 960x540. The winner of best display, for me, is the 960x540 qHD display of the Vivid.

Exactly xD its not much of a difference but samsung i believe is the only phones with AMOLED screens which gives a nice liquid color but HTC did such a great visual job that the difference is hard to see. I think its just cause i work with phones all day i can see it haha
----FINAL----
I have decided to just wait and see what comes out in Q2 and maybe Q3. I happen to be insanly lucky and found a Nexus One in the street!
I will be using that until either:
1) I can find the owner (I wanna be a good person)
2) I find an awesome phone that I'm going to be satisfied with.
There's also the Samsung note that is suppose to be insane. If u wanna check into that

I would trade for a galaxy nexus
keep yours, i've owned a galaxy nexus, don't get me wrong, it's a nice bit of kit, but its not as big an upgrade as you'd think. I'd rather have a nexus s tbh. Put it this way, I had the nexus and the inc s at the same time and got rid of the nexus and kept the inc s.

I had the nexus s but its screen gets scratched really easily and the pen tile format is really bad. You can see all the pixals in everything
Take the phone. Go look at the dev forum for it than tell me you don't want it. You can't not do it.

Well I did the deal as I thought it was a reasonable trade and the screen is very very good.
So the swap for a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for my HTC Incredible S and 170 quid did seem very tempting especially when the likelihood of me selling the incredible s would attract about 150 quid???? Even though I know it is definitely worth more.
Oh quid..... So like 300 cdn? Still a great deal.
Get over to the galaxy nexus forum and root that *****.
