You need to have a working APN (access point name) from your provider. Then Check/Enable the option Data Enabled under Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks..
yes i have already a working apn,
i mean i dont see the icon at my status bar the 3g something
Are you sure settings for apn are correct?
You only get a 3g icon if your mobile data connection is umts.
Here in Germany depending on your mobile connection i get h, 3g, e or g icon.

nice one sir, finally got my mobile internet working
does your phone hangs and restarts while u are using CM7 by mebitek....
i have ocied it to 806Mhz...and i guess this is where the problem is...
if u have any ufrther knowledge...plz advice...

Hi, I just root my phone with Phoenix last night and I have a question. Can someone tell me what the 'H' is in the bar at the top? Before I rooted my phone it said 3G or E, not mostly I see H. Thanks for the help
H is HSPA, which is faster than 3g, enjoy....

Depends on your location. its only available in some areas depending on you network.

For some reason everytime i change my network from 3g to 2g it cant find any network
I check my ril and its ok, any idea why its happening.

On my w8 with gdx n alfs.. my data pack(internet) works only with wcdma mode that is hspa and doesn't work while on gsm that is normal 2g.. can these be software problem or it's because of the service provider..

it should work on 2g even if your plan is 2g.
try installing stock rom and check if problem persists.

i have a galaxy note gt-n7000 and everything was fine till flashed with [ROM][GT-N7000][JB][4.1.1] CyanogenMod 10 - Official Preview [#4] from the moment i flashed phone never get more than 4kb download speed, and the E on signal indicator
i have tried ALL apn configurations, pta, phone and others on this forum and the only works is wap,cingular but at 4kb ! ! ! before flash phone i got 1000kb speed, but most significant is that never can get again H+ in signal bar

maybe try a re-flash of the same rom....

Ask the phone provider if the problem came from them first before you do anything.
If not, do a clean install using pc odin and format your internal sd also, to be sure.

this are screenshots you ask? dont know what you call data connection options screens
APN type needs to have Internet included as well along with default,supl,mms.
Most carriers do not have their own 3G spectrum and in most cases are running of shared networks. If that is the case, you need ensure your "Roaming" is enabled under your data connections.

check with you provider so you dont run into additional costs for roaming...

Also make your phone connects to wcdma network always from settings...it will keep you on H+

youre welcome,
on that note, delete apns, if you have root, restart and reregister manually on your home network, restart, it didnt work? Check if throught provider website you can send settings to phone. If that didnt work is unavailable contact provider to send or troubleshoot connection speeds
Note your neteork speed maybe dependant on frequencies unsupported on Note. That you can probably figure out with your provider to and with your notes specifications. I dont suspect this is the issue.

not sure. you could try one of the many apps on the store and see what works for you.
My xperia Z used to display LTE on the status bar with the journalists ROM (4.3). Recently i flashed it with the generic UK 4.3 rom and now it says 4G. Is this normal with this rom? Is there a way to change it?
I think that just depends on the region your ROM is from. I think some marketing regions use 4G and others use LTE. It's normal, won't affect anything.
You could probably go in there and change it to whatever you wanted if you rooted your device.

The 4G icon is caused by the overlay file /system/vendor/overlay/SemcPhone-Overlay-XXX.apk. If you delete that file, you will get the default LTE icon. However, it's only an icon, it has no effect whatsoever on the connectivity or performance of your phone. I'd recommend to just leave it like it is, to prevent problems with OTA updates.

I have found that it is actually /system/vendor/overlay/SystemUI-Overlay-285.apk that is causing the icon switch. It is the only overlay I keep in my rom for that reason. ?
