Hwo to unroot - Motorola Droid 4

I figured this out, please delete.

May be a good idea to post the steps here just in case some one else needs them.

I downloaded the droid 4 utility in another thread and just pressed "2" to unroot.

Do I understand correctly that there's presently no way to factory reset or unbrick a Droid 4? I've owned a Droid 1 and a Bionic and had great experience with custom ROMs, but that's in large part because I've stuck to trails blazed by folks far more knowledgeable than I. The work that Hash and Matt are doing looks exciting, but frankly at this point I can't afford a new phone if I take the plunge and hit the rocks. If I do encounter problems, will the Droid 4 utility help me get back to square one?
Thanks,
GEF

Best and Easiest Root/Unroot

I'm curious. I have a Motorola Xoom that is rooted using ADB. My Thunderbolt, which is now retired, was rooted with Revolutionary. I got my Bionic on Thursday, and I'm nearly ready to root it.
So I've been reading the forums, and the different root methods. I still have a few questions, like how come the different system versions are such a huge issue. They were an issue on the Thunderbolt to a point, but only like with MR1 and MR2.
What's the best and easiest root method that has an equally easy unroot. Directions are good. This'll be the fourth device rooted by me, so I'm getting very comfortable with it, but this is a new device. Plus, I always want to make sure I know my back door route extremely well, before walking in the front door.
Last, and this one I haven't done a lot of research on yet. How much has been done towards rom's and kernels. I know in some of the older posts, people were talking about the locked bootloader. Surely that's been gotten around?
Thanks. Ohh, and yes I did search. Found plenty of similar threads. All in other phone models.
The Bionic is my first smartphone and so I am very new to rooting. I tried a couple of rooting options (PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07 and R3l3AS3DRoot, which is specific to the Bionic). Both worked, but I had issues with v1.06 of Pete's and so I tried the R3Root and it worked. I like how it has an option to factory restore the phone, since I did screw up with something and I had to restore, due to my inexperience. It's also a much quicker process, doesn't need to reboot a bunch of times. You can find them both here on XDA. I can give you direct links once I find them.
Thanks. I'll look for them.
Was wondering if anyone could explain the different version, like the .901, I think it is.
I plan on rooting tomorrow or Tuesday. Is there any particular ROM or radio that'll help with the data drop issues, or are those Verizon issues in general on 4G. Never had a problem on my Thunderbolt. My wife has started having data drop issues on her's, and the Bionic has them several times a day. Read somewhere that it might be tied in with battery management, which makes sense.
Moderator, you can lock this. Nobody replied, and I'm now rooted.
For anyone who happens across this thread, I highly recommend this method. Super simple and the guide is easy to follow.

[Q] Droid 3 ICS-Root?

Hello. I will be receiving a Droid 3 as a warranty replacement tomorrow. It comes with ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) pre-installed. I have been searching, and cannot find a way to root the Droid 3.
I am hoping I missed it. If someone can point me to the tutorial for rooting the Droid 3 with ICS, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Where did you hear it will come with ICS...? Because it won't.
I was told this by the Verizon rep. It is a warranty replacement. he specifically said it has ICS on it. No, I am not mistaken. Maybe he was?
Even if it doesn't, I have been unable to find a tutorial for rooting the Droid 3.
I can assure you that it will not be arriving with ICS, I'm sure he must have been mistaken. It will most likely be running Gingerbread 2.3.4 with the 5.6.890 system software.
Anywho... here is the tutorial you are looking for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240130
If you do get one with ics on it then I will be calling Verizon and having them replace my phone for one like that

If you get a phone w/ics system dump before anything else please, if you need a hand lots of people here will help (or on irc) but since moto still has the d3 listed as "evaluating" for ics and haven't even started working on a build I would say the rep is more than likely mistaken. Hopefully not but if moto had an ics build for the d3 I imagine we would have heard about a soak or something. As for your question I would probably try the root for d4 and if that didn't work check out what they're using on the nexus etc
If you do get ICS please tweet Hash. We really could benefit from it.

We would still have a locked bootloader and the same kernel issues though. I'd put money on the rep being wrong, but I'd like to be proven wrong.
so what version of android did you end up getting on the d3?

You folks were right. He was wrong. It has 2.3.4.
It runs pretty fast, compares well to the DX2. I wanted CM ROM on it, but none are completely working. Camera has issues GSM FCs and so forth. I just wish my DX2 would work. Haven't used a physical keyboard in a while either.
What do you folks think of your Droid 3s?

I bought my D3 FOR the keyboard. I came from an enV touch and the thought of a touchscreen keyboard that wasn't 100% perfect made me shiver. Looking back, I would definitely have gone with a SGS II. I didn't know anything about the D3's bootloader being locked and the full touch screen is definitely worth the unlocked bootloader. That being said, I still love the keyboard. It's better than any I have ever used.
I don't hate my Droid 3. It runs my ICS roms rather smoothly and the only thing that I wished worked is Google Chrome. I use the camera but I found that I have not wanted to use the video recorder since switching; even if it DID work.
If you want a CM ROM that is pretty stable, I'd recommend 7.2 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308924
It's a bit more stable than CM9, though it still has some bugs. Stable enough for a daily driver in my opinion.
My d3 is alright but if I was sent one now with any option of sending back either for a different phone or terminate a contract(within 30 days or whatever and setup a new one) I would jump @ the chance, just because its a little old, 1g ram would be nice but imo it's like dual core phones, 1 core is wasted 90% of the time, upgradable to ics would be very nice too, custom kernel would be nicest though(htc,lg etc etc). I guess what I'm saying is its decent but I wouldn't buy one now.

I'd say droid 3 is all about the keyboard. Without the keyboard, there would be many better phones. Phones with 1GB ram, unlocked bootloader and a better screen.
However, I'd rather have a keyboard than have those ^ things without a keyboard .
It seems to run faster, and more smooth than my Droid X2. It's ugly though, and it will take some getting used to a physical keyboard again. I have it rooted, radiocom hacked. I want to tweak the camera, but the thread is confusing me a bit as to which zip to use, or which edits to make to build.pro and the XML file. I would prefer to edit rather than install a zip as I don't really want a bootstrap on the phone.
App Brain is making me frustrated though, since Fast Web Installer will not log in.
So far, I am loving this.
Another heartbreak. If D3 doesn't gets ICS by July, I'll let it go.

[Q] Flash RAZR ROMs to a BIONIC

Anyone ever flashed a RAZR rom to a BIONIC? I was thinking about doing one of these...

http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2366-romcdmakoa-rom-any-leak-5282012-1122pm/
From what I understand, the two phones are pretty much identical hardware, but the RAZR has an overclocking feature on the processor. I don't think I'd brick the phone, not permanently anyway, as long as I have a NAND backup right?
the razr and the bionic are pretty much cousins in terms of the hardware department, yes.
i wouldn't risk it though, then again, i am used to HTC rom precedures, so, and i know there each htc phone is different, though the HTC evo is similer to verizon's old Droid Incredible, despite being two tottally seperate sizes.
From what I've read they have figured out RAZR's video recording, which is one of the big downfalls of the Bionic ICS roms right now - no video rec. Wanted to try it, but if I brick it, I will have to buy another...cash.
Thought I'd post a shout here in case anyone else had already been through the pain and suffering

it's the same way with the incredible and evo on HTC, and some other newer phones, the camera app crashes everytime and ends up resulting in a stream of force close errors.
IMHO, i'm not even going to bother with new OTA'S until the devs here cook up a de-bloated rom, same goes for ics, truth be told, Google owns a majority share of motorola mobility now, so we might see a quasi motoblur/vanila look.
Flashed RAZR AXI0M CMPLX from...just hung at black screen after Safe strap intro screen. Went into Safe strap and flashed the latest 'Bionic CM9 unofficial' and it booted. Bummer :-/

Well, I will give you a E for effort. I have a bionic also and was going to try this too but so much for that. I will have to wait for official build in July or August. Sucks
Ok kinda on topic. On my DROID bionic (that I just got as a warranty replacement from the piece of trash called the DROID charge), I went from ICS to gb temporarily because I wanted to try liberty. I tried it and it was on. 8XX, so I decided to download a new rom. I went to download eclipse, and I accidentally downloaded the version for the DROID 3, and being me, I didn't notice. Wiped data, booted, and it said welcome to Droid 3. I was confused, but kept going. Anyway, everything worked perfectly, except for recognizing an sd card and the radio. And the DROID 3 hardware is much different than the bionic im pretty sure. Out if curiosity and foolishness, im going to go try and flash the razr aokp axiom rom. will report back.

Sorry for replying so late, but the custom ROMs do not contain radio data, so you'll need to revert to stock, upgrade to latest stock, THEN flash the custom ROM of your choice.

I know this is a crazy thought.. but why not try this the other way around? The Droid 3 guys are desperate for ICS after learning that will be no official. All I can be sure of is that you will have to wipe data first. Im on my first phone,... so I cant personally do this.

Please push me, I'm close to the... EDGE...

Ok, I'm a pretty savvy guy as far as Android is concerned, normally, but being that our beloved AHD is so different, I'm having some trouble deciding whether to pull the trigger on some of our newest options as far as dev-work is concerned.
I know that Mattlgroff & Hashcode are 2 of the best known names in Motodev. Before the AHD, I had the (now) OG RAZR, but CWM was available as a custom recovery... I'm not used to SS, and I'm a little tentative to flash anything with some of the problems I've seen some have... To be honest, the only reason I came to the AHD is I lost my job a year ago, and haven't been able to find work outside of my fiancée's daycare. I CAN'T jack this phone up, cause I can't afford to replace it... I want mattlgroff's ROM, but with all the unfamiliar steps, I have to admit I'm a lil scurred... Lol.
Is there any chance someone could provide a step by step, "how to" coming from stock rooted to ROMified with links to correct backwards & forward files? Seems as though a lot of what's been posted assumes that you have knowledge of SS, and such, which I think many of us may not have...
Sorry to request such a FAQ, but it's possible that it could help a large number of those who are already having problems...

Flashable ROM is out now... WiFi not working yet but it runs just as good, maybe even better than before.

[Q] Help with rooting and the best custom rom for Droid 3

Hello. I am totally new to rooting. I've done a lot of research, and usually because I can't really understand a lot of the jargon or instructions I just kind of stay away from it. Well, now that I've had to give up my Nexus 4 for an the older Droid 3, I'm finding it difficult going back a few generations and the lack of fluidity is very bothersome. The best suggestions I've gotten is to root. Can someone please help me by breaking down some step by step instructions? (I'm really at a loss as to how to get started, and since this is my only device after having to let go of the Nexus I can't really afford to accidentally brick it). Also I've also noticed that a lot of the roms have issues with the Droid's camera, so can someone advise me on the best one to use once I've rooted as well? Thanks a lot.
If you want a fast smooth rom I say go with minimoto
