Phone was flashed to 2.2, however after shutting down the phone and booting it up again, I get Black SCREEN + glowing buttons.
Device : Samsung i9000 from Bell running flashed 2.2 Rom.
I've tried following this guide :
STAGE 1 (applies only if you are coming from an earlier Froyo build)
* We are now going to flash the XWJM8 firmware again (Éclair), so make sure that you load the files for this firmware in Odin.
* In PIT, load the 502.PIT file
* For PDA, select the ‘CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar.md5’ file and for PHONE, select the ‘MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5’ file. Leave all others blank.
* Make sure that the Re-partition box is checked. All other settings should be as shown in the screenshot below.
*Sorry can't post link, forum restriction*
After stage 1, Odin says Passed, my i9000 reboots with still a black screen+ glowing buttons.
I want to start Stage 2, however I can't find the file ‘JPO_JPO_U_JPP.tar’ file.
I've looked up for solution for the last 2 days and can't seem to find a solution anywhere.
Things I've tried on my own without sucess :
Flashed again this time with a CSC from bell, I've read that sometimes without CSC flashing can't be done, but even with the CSC files, my phone is still ''bricked''
Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Ultimately, I want to go back on 2.2 but for now, I just want my phone to boot again =(.
Hate to say it but it sounds like yout internal sd card is dead like MANY OTHERS who have flashed... No way to fix except to send for repairs to bell/samsung...

I wish you'd stop stating that flashing fubar's your phone. Many people running stock, unrooted devices are reporting the same problem.
Isn't there a way to try and access internal sd card?
Have you try doing a factory reset?
Yeah, I've tried doing so, after reading and researching online, I think this could fix my problem.

However adb doesn't even reconize the phone =/

I diddnt specifically mean that it was the flashing that did it but it is OBVIOUS that it happened after he flashed right???
It is known that flashing will sometimes "speed up" the death of an already faulty sd card and that is what I meant by my original post...
And PS... The number of people reporting their sd cards failing on stock firmware w/ no lagfix or no previous flashes to "unofficial firmware" is WAY lower than those reporting sd card death after flashing or adding lagfixes, etc...
Which obviously points to an existing hardware fault that is exacerbated by flashing, not caused by flashing

And again... I did not specifically state that it was the "flashing" that killed the OP's phone. I simply stated that this seems to happen to MANY people after they flash. NOT the same thing...
Did you come to this thread to argue or to help the OP? I simply posted a reply last night stating that it seems his internal SD card is dead so that he could prepare himself for having to send it away for repairs. I did not respond to the OP to get into an arguement with anyone over "what causes the internal SD cards to fail".
Don't argue guys! I appreciate all your help
What is the best way to ''fix the internal sd card''
Isn't there a way to like factory reset the internal sd card.

@cuem,
Unfortunately... If it is an actual dead internal sd card (which it seems to be since the steps you followed already did not seem to fix the issue) the only way to fix it is to send it back to Bell who in turn will send it off for warranty repair.
IF you have just purchased the phone within the last 30 days (possibly 60 if Bell is still extending the DOA return policy) and you have a receipt you can take it back to Bell and get an exchange.
Again, unfortunately these are your only options to get this fixed...
Sorry to be the bearrer of bad news...
Just when I think this couldn't get worst,I was wrong.
I tried using Odin3 One-click downloader, I wanted to flash it with At&t stock firmware( hopefully it would work) then flash it again with 2.1 clair
After using Odin3 One-click downloader, it said sucessed, but now my phone is STUCK on At&t blinking logo and I can't go into download mode anymore.
I've tried the 3 keys combo, adb doesn't reconize the phone.
I'm pretty much screwed, warranty won't work if Bell sees At&T logo blinking upon power up.......

Ooooooo... That is not good. The American Vibrant is NOT the same as out i9000 models.
What you need to do now is search the forums for the homemade jig thread that will force your device into download mode. Search the forums and you will find it.
Be prepared to be "handy" as you will have to build the jig from scratch...

Yeah, I've read about the Jig thing, I've also read about heating your phone with a hairdryer,
I'm currently trying out the hairdryer, but it doesn't work =/
Might have to try the Jig thing, which seems a little complicated with ordering since I'm running out of time =/
Jig worked, im back to my intial problem.
BLACK SCREEN + GLOWING BUTTON.
This has happened to me, I just flashed with an older version, for me JM5 worked fine.

I had the same thing after flash and spent many hours and tried many different methods to get it back up with no success.
I'm leaving the country for Europe on January 2nd for vacation. This was the last thing I needed... Hopefully I get it back before then, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hi,
Last night my Galaxy S was low on battery, and I kept trying to turn it on for it to die right away (it was working as expected I guess)
This morning after I charged my phone it wouldn't turn on at all! It loads to the logo screen, makes that jingle sound and then holds and doesn't turn on.
I can get to recovery and download mode.
I put OCLF on like 2 months ago, but haven't modded/flashed ANYTHING since. It is very bizarre how it just died.
I'm wondering what my options are now. Obviously I would rather not loose all my personal files. Since I can get into download mode, can I just flash a new firmware? I'd like FroYo anyway, but I haven't got a clue what to do.
Great start to the year – !
Cheers,
Mitch
EDIT: I just decided to try the "Clear User Cache" option and then reboot to no avail. Now I can't get back into recovery mode!?!? Download mode still works. Huhh?? Is this expected? Have I lose Recovery Mode entirely now? Crap.
seeeems like an odin flash via the download mode is the only way. There are a few tutorials on this site and even tut vids on youtube so you should be fine if you just follow everything they do (as long as it works for them of course)
How do I know what version to flash? I have read a few tutorials and they all have started with "Dial x and check you have y" etc. Obviously I can't do any of that.
What is the *safest* firmware I can flash?
My phone currently has some optus variety.
Please forgive the noodish question.
Mitch
Where are you located? And who is your provider?
Hi,
I'm in Sydney Australia and my provider is Optus.
Thanks
Hi,
I still can't get my phone working and am not clear how to proceed.
What would be the best firmware to flash to my Optus Galaxy S that bricked out of the blue? Should I just send it back to Samsung?
Thank You

Hey mate go to samfirmware and get I9000DTJG4 thats the stock optus rom once you get phone up and running then upgrade to 2.2.1.
Sounds like you'll need to do a flash of a stock rom..
By the way, the old oclf had some issues that might lead to system corruption (unfortunately I'm not very sure exactly what it does, or whether it could lead to this problem). I'd suggest getting one of the newer lag fixes available here when you do get your phone running again

tragusman has got it right. Depending on what the issue is, you'll either recover nicely or your phone is toast. Flash the above stock firmware and give it a shot. Note that you'll likely loose your data and settings.
If you're new to flashing firmwares, check the great reference guide on where to find Odin and how to use it (this is the app you'll use to flash the above firmware).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
After flashing, try getting into recovery mode. If you can look for an error message under the standard menu. Can't get to d/l mode? You're probably in trouble. Get into recovery and see an error msg? Post the error here or google it for a solution. No error msg? You're probably ok - restart the phone.
Good luck.
Thanks guys.
I'm about to try it now, but before I start potentially breaking my phone even more, I was just thinking: Could I just send it back to Samsung? Would they fix it, or identify right away I have changed something and void my warranty.

If it's broke, you can't break it any more I've sent phones back in for support after flashing back stock firmware (flashing it after it "died").
So I was retarded and followed the instructions (or started to) on androidadvices dot com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-tab-to-stable-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware
My Tablet will not boot past the T-Mobile logo.......... they are being assholes and telling me i need to deal with samsung ......... who told me it would be 6-8 weeks for a replacement........ is there ANYONE out there that can help me with just resetting it???
If you can get to the T_Mobile logo, you probably have a working bootloader and that mean you just need to flash the correct firmware for you device.
In short words, go to samfirmware.com and download the right firmware for your tablet model.
Once you have the firmware, flash them to your tablet with 'odin' (flash software, that you can also get in the mentioned website).
This should solve the problem.
If this works I will love you.
So i am obviously more retarded than I thought pedrohfsd ........ I have an SGH-T849 and i cannot FIND the firmware on that site..... seriously? UGH
pm me i'll tell you what to do , with th stock firmware for Tmobile , i helped someone before 2days he had same tab with you ) and same problem

You sir, are brilliant.
I wasn't able to locate the firmware on the samfirmware.com but I DID find it on XDA from another user. Put phone into download mode... waited till the little box in Odin turned yellow and loaded that badboy on there. After about 5 minutes it was back into the 2.2 OS again. The only problem that I had was with programs that had been installed before and loaded at boot (Just had to uninstall / reinstall) But for the most part its back to the way it was.
Thanks so much for your help!
You too Kosh, as I am sure you were going to walk me through exactly what I fumbled through on my own (I'm lucky I didn't blow anything up haha)
NO more attempts to get 2.3 on this badboy!
Thanks again all <3
I'm glad to hear that KalKainen, the first time i soft bricked my phone i got desperate too.
But after some weeks i saw the inumerous progressions that people develop in custom roms here in xda, and flashed the whole thing again =P.

Amen man..... desprate is about right.. haha... now if i could only figure out why i have to CONSTANTLY reboot it in order to restore network service (Even though I have 3g and full bars... no text messages send / come in and programs that use data error out... ) I would be happy. This has been happening for the last 4 months badly enough that I can have to reset it 10 times in a 2 hour period >.< I cant even put it into flight mode.... but after I TRY putting it into flight mode and then reboot it... it comes BACK in flight mode.... I hoped the reinstall of the firmware would fix it.. but alas..... still plagued. AT LEAST IT WORKS THOUGH!!
Ok I have a stock KB2 Cappy. I used Odin to flash back to 2.1 KB1 JF6
Then I used Odin 3 to flash a kernel so I can put on CM7. I am now stuck in the Boot screen.
I have no 3 button, I cannot get into download mode (my jig is homemade should i order one?)
I tried to change usb and remove the sim card to try odin again to get back into stock.
Nothing seems to work the only thing is my jig is not good either for DL Mode. I want to get back to stock so any suggestions. I tried heimandall did not work either.
I am really stuck on this galaxy s I897 screen.
Is the jig soldered? If its not make sure you are connecting the correct pins and use some black tape or something to isolate your fingers from the resistors (might screw up the actual ohms making it to boot up normally and not in to dl mode.
The bootloop was expected, you are supposed to check that you have a working button combo both before you flash the kernel (because it will bootloop and you boot into recovery and flash whatever) and before you ever flash cm7 because that is the only way to get into download mode besides a jig on aosp roms.
so, fiddle around with your jig some more and if you get it in download mode just flash the captivate gingerbread bootloaders, that will fix your button combo and allow you to proceed flashing cm7.
Hi Guys,
I have a similar problem. I am a total noob-I've had my I896 cappy (Canadian Rogers based) for about a year now; i fiddled with it on Saturday and also got the bootloop. I freaked out, and managed to further flash (out of frustration and confusion) the cappy with another wrong ROM, the I900. I managed to get it back into DL mode and tried flashing stock eclair or 2.2 froyo via ODIN. For some reason, whenever I start the flash (press start on Odin with the froyo 2.2 file on PDA), the progress fails at the factory section. I don't know much about jigs yet, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

This is probably the easiest guide on how to make one. Layman Jig First one I did I butchered a pare car charger to make it. You can just grab one from MobileTechVideos.com for about $8.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the link.
From what I understand, a jig is an improvised connection that allows your phone to go into DL mode. What if my phone is still capable of going into DL mode? My apologies, as I am at work.
Im not sure what you mean with your question. What the jig does is give the signal for it to go to download mode as was intended by samsung. Same theory on how your phone knows its connected to your computer, or the wall or the car charger. Its by manipulating the current between 2 pins. Keep in mind your phone should always be capable of going in to download mode assuming the hardware is working and your bootloaders are in working order.
I believe I read it on a different website that as long as your phone can go into download mode, then it is only "soft-bricked," meaning it can still be recovered using ODIN. I don't know If I was misinformed or not. I guess my question is, since my phone is still able to go into download mode, but the flash is still failing, did I DL the wrong ROM, or was the copy of Froyo 2.2 I DL'd corrupt? If so, is there a reliable source/site where I can download Froyo or Eclair?
I hope that makes more sense.

You are correct, if you can get into download mode you are not bricked. Make sure you are using the usb cord that came with your phone, plugged directly into the back of your computer. Make sure your SIM card is out, you're logged in as an administrator, and that you start odin before you plug your phone in.
If it still doesn't work, try another computer and/or another cord.
Why do people say take sim out? Ive never taken it out and had no issues. Just curious.
That is a practice from way back in the winmo days, sometimes the flash would corrupt the Sim itself. Not the case anymore for the most part. I'm with you never take mine out either.
Thanks guys, I will try this at home; hopefully it works.

I say it because, while I've never had it screw up the SIM itself, I had a situation where I forgot to remove it and then couldn't get odin to complete a flash on several attempts, resulting in a soft brick that I couldn't flash out of. As soon as I removed the sim, Odin flashed without an issue.
Coincidence? Maybe, although I didn't change anything else. If it possibly keeps me from repeating this terrifying event, though, I'll just keep doing it

Did you get a red "FAIL" message on ODIN? Because thats what I got several times. My buddy also tried and he got the same thing. The green progress bar completes up till about 80 percent and gives up on me. I'll try taking out the SD and SIM cards when I get home, hopefully it works.
Hi guys, little update:
I found this on the forums and used it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Anyways, this worked after my second try. Interestingly enough, it worked once i removed the Sim card, which is what apbthe3 suggested..great! I'm just glad my phone is no longer bricked. Minor issue though, my phone is now an AT&T phone, but unfortunately, I am a Canadian Samsung user. New problem now. My phone is no longer rooted (never was actually, but was bricked in the process), I'm happy it works, but i need to know if there are any Canadians out there that know how to revert my device back to Rogers.
Any help would be great. Anyways, the link I provided works great, so its a great resource for our American friends.
Why don't you look at Cognition 4.x.x? Froyo stock ish looking rom tweaked out the ass very fast. Good rom.
Look in development. There are a couple of threads there just for Rogers users.
So the other day i was on my captivate and i had just factory reset it to original eclair. so i tried updating it with kies but it kept failing. So i then tried using Odin and accidently checked bootloader and now my phone turned off and wont show any signs of life. PLEASE IM ASKING YOU PLEASE HELP! What do I do?
Can u get into Download mode with button combo or jig ?
If ur phone shows zero signs of life, even when plugged in to a wall charger, then it is probably hard bricked and so u will need jtag service in order to bring ur phone back to life. Check out mobiletechvideos.com, they can fix ur phone.

It doesn't format the bootloaders per say, it you flash a stock ROM with Odin that has bootloaders and if it gets interrupted while it's replacing them, your phone will be bricked as it doesn't have a way to boot (hence the name bootloaders).
The JTAG service basically pushes the bootloaders into the phone. It's something we can't do on our own unless we have the right equipment (riftbox).
Like 4-2ndtwin mentioned, try to get some response from your phone, anything that would show life. That means you can recover on your phone. From there, you'd have to be able to get in download mode and flash Odin KK4 without ANY interruption.

Try the button combo to get in download mode (could even try a jig). If that fails too, you'll have to get jtag service.

From what I've read in your thread, you had the i9000 image working, correct? If so, why not just roll with it?
All Captivate/i9000 rom works with the i9000 bootloader. Captivate GB Rom will need to get the 2.3.5 i9000 Music Player APK, but aside from that, it all works. AOSP roms like Cyanogenmod and Slimbean will work out of the box if you get the captivate version. To install them, you'll need a slight workaround though:
Flash a kernel with CWM.
From there, flash the Captivate Glitch Kernel V13. It only comes in .ZIP format, which is why you need a CWM kernel before hand
Flash CM7 to convert the partition table(IMPORTANT. Rom will not boot if you skip this step.)
Flash anything from here on. If it throw a status 7 about device not being SGH-i896/SGH-i897, etc..., flash the Glitch Kernel before attempting to flash the ROM. You do not need to flash CM7 again.
(I know other ROM should have converted the partition table, but in reality it doesn't. Since you're flashing from Glitch, a CM7/MIUI kernel, they assumes you already have the MTD partition layout, and only resize it instead of doing a full conversion. CM7 check the partition table regardless of which kernel you're flashing it from.)
As a plus, Deep Idle works only with the i9000 bootloader. You'll get sleep of death otherwise. If you want your ATT World Phone image back, you can flash the custom param.lfs and change it manually. This can only be done from Touchwiz ROM though.
