Since I bought my Vivid in November I have been looking Root it and customize. This is the first time in my life I had a phone with Android system. Although many hours of reading I finally could Root it but I could not put Custom Roms because I do not understand the language used by the creators of these programs and this is because I have not found a tutorial that explains exactly step by step and without shorten the how. For example I would like to know how to set you up ICS 4.0.3 but, exactly step by step and explaining every detail to someone who would do for the first time. Excuse my ignorance but I'm desperate with the factory Rom that brings AT & T that will not let me do anything.
* I think I have installed everything I need to start, just don't know how to use it. Example; I have installed: Titanium Backup, Superuser, FlashGui, Rom Manager, Root Manager.
Okay, so you are attempting to flash a custom rom right ?
If this is true which one ?

Queries flash un custom rom verdad?
Si es verdadero qual ?
I want to flash ICS Rom, but the thing is that I don't really know How or What does Flash r eally means. I would appreciate if you can explain me like I'm a dump
My Vivid is already rooted but, as I said I can't go further because don't know how to do it well without messing up my phone.
Are you on the AT&T network ? If not flashing ICS will not work right now.

You should reach out to vhjc. He is a Dev with a nice rom and lives in Mexico, so I assume speaks Spanish. PM him and see if he'll help you out.
yes!!!
Also is there a way you can explain me like in a messenger so i can receive your tutorial faster?

ROMs are multilingual, so no matter what language do you want on your phone, the flash process is exactly the same.
So the first thing you need to do is READ the thread of the ROM you want to flash.

The Rom i want to flash is RUU_HOLIDAY_ICS_35_S_Cingular_US_3.26.502.52_Radio_3.02.4740.14_34.22.701040.19L_release_243350_signed.exe
but I dont realy understand the tutorial
If you just using the RUU you just plug your phone into your computer, put it in charge mode and click the ruu and that should be pretty much it. Just wait and let it do it's thing.
I have to make a correction and, sorry about that.
I dont speak or write english very well but, I understand almost every thing.
The only thing I dont understand is when you guys make abreviations of some words or programs names.

Example of things I dont understand:
Which step do I have to do to flash ICS Rom in the thread [SUPERGUIDE] BOOTLOADER UNLOCK/PERMROOT/CWM/Flash ROM or Kernel/Revert to Stock?
The #3 or #4?
And please imagine Im a donkey that need to know step by step.
I alreaady found this:
Copy VIVID_ICS_OTA_ROOTED_CWM.zip to your external SD card
From CWM, flash the VIVID_ICS_OTA_ROOTED_CWM.zip
Put the PH39IMG.zip on your SD card, then reboot to fastboot
Re-lock your bootloader with fastboot, then reboot back into HBOOT
Flash the PH39IMG.zip from HBOOT
Remove PH39IMG.zip from SD card (or remove the SD card so that you can enter fastboot)
Enter fastboot again, and re-unlock bootloader
To get CWM re-installed you can either: a) fastboot flash recovery again OR b) Head to my thread and download the update PH39IMG clockwork installer, put that on your external SD, and boot to HBOOT then install it.
Could be that easy?

But as you see even that it looks easy, it is also short terms.
Could you explain it to me this same tutorial but, step by step?
like:
1) how do I reboot to fastboot?
2) how do I relock my bootloader?
3) how do I reboot in Hboot and how do I flash in Hboot?
4) how do I reunlock again?
Please, please, in Mega Dummies Tread.

I'll answer questions 1 and 2.
To go into fastboot in order to relock my bootloader I plug my phone into the computer, then turn it off, remove the battery for a few seconds (20 should do it), then I keep pressing the volume down key on the side of the phone, then press the power button until it turns on, never letting go of the power down key.
Then you're on a white screen with loads of colourful things written, you should have Fastboot already selected, so you should just press the power button again and voila, you're on fastboot.
To relock your bootloader, you must be in this fastboot mode.
You download the adbfastbootrecovery zip to your computer (click here to download it) and extract it somewhere. Open the folder you just extracted and keep pressing the shift key and right click somewhere blank on the folder, and choose "open a command window here".
You'll be on a black page, and then type this on the black page:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
and press enter. You should have your bootloader relocked by now.
I just copied the turorial from the SUPERGUIDE thread, so none of this is my credit.
(although i have to agree with you that they write it in a really weird way. they complicate it a bit more than it needs. i mean, it's all pretty explained but for us that aren't native speakers of english i think it's a bit hard.)
After this, you must flash a RUU file.
That ROM of yours seems to be a RUU file, but we can't assure it's gonna work. You should flash the official RUU file, but it depends on the carrier.
Did you buy your Vivid on AT&T?
After flashing the RUU file, I normally unlock the bootloader again, get root access again, and flash the ROM I want (you really should choose a ROM that is here on the forum instead of using Google to find things that you're not sure if are gonna work out...).
I use VJRaider's ROM and it's amazing. I can help you out if you want. If you're interested on flashing a custom rom that is already on the forum, send me a private message and we can talk better.
I really wouldn't flash this file of yours if I were you.

I want to upgrade with ICS also as I see right now Ruu is not the same as Rom, now Im a little bit confused.
Can I flash Rom and kernel from my phome or by PC?
Whats the diference betwen flashing Rom or kernel or Ruu?
And the very first question: could you write this thread that you already did in spanish? Podrias hacerlo en espanol?

so that others can find it also

I appear to be encountering a severe problem with Step 17 which is that it says it is "Your Choice" to go to a 3.08 SPL/IPL. Nowhere however does it say which later ROMs you can apply if you DO choose to go with the 3.08.
I tried different ROMs because I cant seem to understand how to use VoIP or which ROM will let me use this 'feature' or which ROM has this feature built it as some say they have deliberately taken it out.
Suddenly I am getting error messages telling me that the unit needs a later ROM revision to install perfectly.
(WizardLove was the first to do this: It executes in Italian and as I mentioned, just tells me that it needs a later version to work)
So I reflashed with the Molski ROM which is the only one which seems to be around and the flash worked up until 94%. At that stage the progress bar turned to red and there was an error message telling me that I can recover and try again. I did this a few times and SEEM to have bricked my Wizard (When the Molski upgrade failed, attempts to chkdsk, reboot, delete all temp files etc failed). The unit will now only boot to the three-colour screen? Further attempts to flash seem to see and read the device and tell me either that there is no ROM on it and would I like to upgrade? Followed by this unexplained 'USE LATER ROM'. (There may be a problem with installing the T-Mobile ROM on an unlocked Wizard with a 3.08 IPL/SPL However it has to be said that Molski is, still, the only ROM which runs and it inevitably stops at the same position, the 94% mark when the MDA's progress bar goes red, the unit shuts down, the upgrade process thinks about it for a while and ultimately reports ERROR [302] UPDATE ERROR)
Easymob said he would let users have a path to a ROM they could use but no where is it set out which ROMs you can use of the ones you actually CAN find?
I have also tried the Xelencin ROM which initially tries to unlock the CID (which surely must be already unlocked by now if I have upgraded to the later SPL??)
The Xelencin T-Mobile ROM MUST be doing something because it does successfully run the RAPI unlock and after a few error messages telling me it can't access the MDA, reports DONE! But then it tries to run Machinagod's HTC Wizard Unlocker and gets stuck. It shouldnt get stuck at this step as I must already BE unlocked! It should pass this step.
I can hear hdd movement (not churning) but the program doesn’t progress past this step. Ultimately this carries on for hours and the Wizard shuts down I presume when the battery fails
Again as the program was built for the 2.26 SPL, I still cant figure out whether these available ROMs should run on the 3.08 which I followed in the STEP 17.
MEANWHILE BACK AT THE RANCH: Is there a more obvious answer to why Molski always fails at precisely the same 94% position?

Any idea if this will work on my 3.08 G3 please? As you can see from the above, flashing with the Molski gets as far as 94% and then either shuts down the Wizard or tells me it has lost communication. (At the moment all I can get to is the preliminary three colour screen)
Please ignore last message: I am just trying to understand which ROMs do what
Is there a listing anywhere of which ROMs do what please? I have asked about VoIP on these boards but no one seems to respond and I cant get a proper handle on which are designed to use/optimise the Wizard for this function. I currently have Molski installed but you suggest this is a (more?) advanced ROM??

I made a Custom rom but can't get it to flashe on my Breeze. I use de Special ruu listed in the wiki but when i start it the phone wil go off and won't go in to bootloder mode. go to this treat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306165. I get the spl by des so i will try flashing my custom rom
Format a fresh microSD card, copy on the rom you want to test (best just ROM only!) and rename to breeimg.nbh, start the SSPL variant posted in this forum and then quickly enter bootloader (power/camera).
Works a treat, as stated in post 5 of the thread you quoted. I've flashed umpteen Cavalier Rom variants this way, all followed by the inevitable re-flash back to 1.34

It works now i am runing a rom without streaming media and Clear vue word powerpoint pdf reader. But i cant edit the register. I can't convert my default.reg and user.reg to a .hv file. So the files are deleted but the registry entries are still there. So im playing around
Finally got the time to have a fiddle around and found an alternative, but probably slower, approach to the SDcard route.
Basically instead of the standard RomUpdateUtility.exe that comes with the 1.34 package I used the modified Hermes flasher RUUwrapper and chose the force SSPL option.
Once the Breeze is in SSPL (execute SPL shortcut file + press power/camera IMMEDIANTLY) it is possible to run the RUUWrapper on my laptop and it will flash whatever signed/unsigned nbh file that is local to it.
I think i have brick my phone!!
I tried to install the new hspl 1.54 through my storage card. After installing the hspl 1.54 on my phone I get the next message in my bootloader "Uprgrade rom code error Please try again". So I tried again, this time through the computer with HSPLwrapper_blackstone_1560Olinex.exe and this time the phone stuck on 0%....
What can I do now?
The following text in my bootloader is:
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) v6
Uprgrade Rom code error
Please try again.
Before I had tried to install hspl1.54 I had 1.14 Olinex on my device...
Strange thing is that its saying that i have spl 1.54.0000
Problem solved:
I want to thank Reyber and Crackwhore for the solution.
What did I do:
I could not use my storagecard anymore, because if i wanted to start my device it went to the bootloader directly.
So I used the pc method.
1. Get the USPL 2.5
2. put my phone in the bootloader ( read the thread USPL first how to do it!)
3. Run the USPL 2.5
4. My device restarted and i get SPL v1.15
5. After that I run HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex
6. To confirm i have installed the new Olinex version 1.56 i go into bootloader and saw 1.56 Olinex!
After that I installed a rom and it is working perfectly atm! !!!
_________
Have you read the guide where you found the HSPL ?
Ye I did...
probeer uspl 2.5
je kan op 2 manieren
via storage card:

thanks kor your answer
as i my phone start in bootloader i try to install uspl 2.5
i do this : connect phone in usb in bootloader. from the pc run blac_uspl but the phone do not restart.
in bootloader i can see in the red :
top right corner "RUUNBH" => PROBLEM ?
after :
BLAC100 32 M
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) v6
in the green :
Upgrade ROM Code error
Please try again
in the blue :
nothing
in the white :
USB
I think there's a problem and that's why i can't do nothing.
you need to have activesync 4.5
than go to prefences en unsight 'usb connection'
after that
do this:
1 start hd in bootloader
2 connect with usb cabel
3 now you see usb written on your hd
4 use uspl 2.5, click on the uspl.exe and than wait your screen changes from spl. 1.54.000 to spl 1.15
5 download a rom 1.56 or above
6 open blackstoneRuuwrapper.exe that comes with the rom
7 if everythings ok it must update now correctly...
geen dank joh,
ik had eerst ook zo een probleem
toen werd ik geholpen door CHRACKWHORE
many thanks
maarjah je leert de van een ander je en geeft die informatie door aan een ander
thanks for all your answer, indeed, i've install the driver 4.5 for activ sync and succeed to run blac spl
thanks again
good to hear !
Thanks Kuyichi
I had exactly the same problem and have resolved exactly like you did.
1. Removed SD Card
2. Connected Phone to PC via USB
3. Rebooted phone into Bootloader
4. Disabled USB Connections in Activesync
5. Ran uspl.exe, clicked RUN uspl and waited for bootloader screen to change from spl. 1.54.000 to spl 1.15
6. Installed ROM of my choice
I'm now happily running Win 6.5
No problem LoobyLou!

haha had the same problem fixed it with uSpl but how do get from usPL to HSpl i have right now spl1.54
Just to clarify
I'm glad you got it resolved, but just to clarify the term 'bricked'. If you brick your phone you cannot do anything. You phone won't turn on, you cannot enter bootloader, you can do nothing. i.e. you phone is as much use as a brick, hence the term.
A lot of people state they have bricked their phone while in reality all you have done is followed the process of getting HSPL or USPL onto your device incorrectly and are stuck at a certain stage. If you can turn on device, enter bootloader etc chances are extremely good that you can recover your device

Indeed you are right. I think most people don't know when the phone is bricked (including me, but now i know). That's why i have put a questionmark behind the topic.
Hi, first of all sorry for my English because i'm Spanish.
Today have release a upgrade for Dream(G1) movistar, i have upgrade my Dream, first of all the installer is a Pc based i like it very much, in other way when i finally upgrade i have lost all. I can't upgrade from home+power, and when i enter in fastboot the menu say HBOOT-1.33.0010 (Drea20000), CPLD-4, RADIO-3.22.20.17, Jun 2 2009,21:33:16
I was install the hard spl whit the last radio to probe hero's based rooms, finally i was working wiht cyanogenmod 4.0.4 and cyan recovery now i have lost the recovery and think the root too.
I want to know if i have the hard spl if with this radio can put the cyan 4.0.4 another time.
Thanks for all, and sorry for my bad English.
You can still access fastboot so you should be good to go. Just re-read instructions and start from the beginning. Sounds like the radio is your problem. Use the radio and spl suggested by the developer for the rom you want to run. That is the easiest way to assure your experementation results in a good running system rather than a brick.
Upgrading radios...
Hi, I'm also spanish, so I think I understood everything
Well, first of all, I think that the real danger is to flash a radio if you have changed your SPL. I've you have done that without problems (is your phone successfully receiving calls? Does everything work as expected on a 1.5 Cupcake- non-rooted version?), then there is a good chance to try to get root again and flash cyan's rom.
The worst that could happen to you is cyan's mod didn't work with that radio+spl combination, so you should reflash the original 1.5 Telefonica - Movistar Dream's Rom with HTC Sync.

Sorry if I misunderstood. I took it you had no rom loaded. On another note, the HardSPL will not give you the space you need to run Hero roms. You would need to flash the DangerSPL to get the space needed for the install. That SPL is only know to work well with the 2.22.19.26I radio, and will cause a brick if used with other radios.
Official Movistar update
gurnted: Today I've seen that HTC has released an official update to Android 1.5 for the users of HTC Dream in Spain (where is sold by the operator Movistar only). Until now, we had to install ROMs, because there have been no OTAs on our Dreams (in the other models, like the MyTouch -called Magic here-, the operator Vodafone has released OTAs).
In Android 1.1, we had problems because we couldn't sync contacts or calendar events.
So I understand that he -subi_albert- has installed the new official release (that, as HTC tells in his website, has to be installed through the computer with HTC Sync). Since here, everything's ok.
But he had changed the SPL, so if the update went OK, it seems that he'll have no problems to root and install CyanogenMod's ROMs. And, if it fails, he can always reinstall the official release, at this point, because he also demonstrated (if it's not just a question of luck) that it could be done with HardSPL installed.
Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm a first-time (well, by now second-time) poster, I've read a lot but I have not "fought" with that kind of questions; just wanted to help him because I knew the situation before
I have installed the Hayruto SPL and tryed Hero's roms, but i don't like and finally i have install cyan 4.0.4. Now HTC has release a cupcake from Dream (spain) and i have actualized my phone, but the installer have change radio and cyan recovery, i don't know what SPL have now and if the new radio it's better than the other or if i can install cyan 4.0.4 with this radio or if this radio it's better.
When SPL comes...
Well... I haven't tried to change the SPL of my Dream, that's something that I'm a bit afraid of. So I can't help you from that point. By now, if I were you, I would try to get root again and install cyan's mod. But I think that in some versions of Android you cannot get root so you have to downgrade, as seen on this link.
And, if i were you again, I would read or wait a bit for someone better informed than me to reply, because playing with versions when you have a strange radio with a custom SPL could be dangerous, I think (I've always heard that if you downgrade to the original Dream radio with Haykuro SPL you get a brick).
Let's wait for the "gods" to speak, if they can. They'll answer you better than me. I'm sorry
Could someone please post this update to rapidshre or megaupload, or mediafire....
Thank you!

if you have HBOOT-1.33.0010 (perfect SPL) you should need a modified recovery. you could try this:
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654 and read. It's for Rogers, but you should have the same SPL.
Download the Haykuro file Givemeroot or this one: rogers_root_unzipme.zip, than download the oneclick root or the new recovery flasher here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556744
Try to use the recovery image you could find into givemeroot.zip or rogers_root_unzipme.zip files.
If your dream restart into recovery you are ok. You could change Radio and SPL.
Obviously I take no responsibility if you brick!!
Recovery problems
I don't have the update installed myself, but I've seen people with problems when trying to flash something with the update installed.
It seems that the fastboot menu in this release has changed, and it doesn't allow booting with a boot.img loaded through fastboot.exe from a pc. Maybe you can still flash a modified recovery, but I don't know if this affects the phone...
Anyway I've posted the update on rapidshare, where it tells me it only allows 10 downloads: http://rapidshare.com/files/2772730...1.86.621.4_release_signed_WithDriver.exe.html
And you can also find the same file on megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZHGZAA0S
It's an .exe, that needs to be installed to the phone. I don't know if it can be extracted (tried to use it but I don't have usb cable at work to connect the phone, but didn't work, neither trying to rename the file as it is an installer, not an auto-extract exe).

Indeed you are right.... it seems that this SPL doesn't allow fastboot recovery..
So, as I said, you have to use the so-called “one click root”.
However I have not yet test it!

I have install oneclick "flashrec.apk" and can't enter recovery mode too the phoen stay at logo. i try pterminal too and can't get the root, and the fastboot fails too.
But the .exe file has a very good boot installer than when is installing from PC the phone reboot in fastboot mode and say usbroot, there is any way to look inside the exe file to know how can i do the same?.
Thanks.
which recovery image did you use with one click root??
I have try the one click of youtube this can backup and put recovery but when i try to enter recovery mode enter in a loop only see the operator logo, now i have try "flashrec-1.1.2-20090909.apk" but can't do the backup "Backup FAILERD: Could not run command." and i can't continue.
yes, ok for the apk, but I would like to know which recovery image you used!
Finally i can't put the recovery Cyan 1.4 but when i rebbot in recovery mode and try to go to terminal to root the phone it freeze i have to remove the battery and i'm afraid to try to upgrade by the recovery cyan 1.4
I have used the flashrec 1.1.2. It autodownload recovery 1.4 and flash successful. and I had get in this recovery mode twice, but then get in again, it stay at the first screen.
hehe,I'm sorry if you don't know what I said because my poor English

Your HD7 is semi/small bricked then.
You will have to use the goldcard/ Y cable method to repair the bootloader.
This is the basic idea of what you'll have to do:
Use the goldcard/ Y cable method and flash a stock/shipped rom for your devices specific carrier, through USB host mode. This should repair the bootloader and depending on what stock/shipped rom you use it might downgrade your SPL and OS version, which your SPL has to be at or below 3.xxx to install RSPL or HSPL (which is required to flash a custom rom) and then you can flash a custom rom via bootloader mode.
Look at Shadows tutorial, (below) it explains how to downgrade SPL, flashXSPL and install a custom rom and he has a link for all the stock/shipped roms. Read through it and then click on the goldcard link and that will explain on how to use the goldcard/ Y cable method. You have to make or purchase a Y cable and need a flash drive/card reader, download the goldcard tool and a stock/shipped rom. It's pretty easy to do, let me know if you need any help or have any question.

This is a good goldcard tut and has good pics of the Y cable, if your gonna make one:

Try this, these are problems that usually cause it to get stuck in USB host mode
Sometimes if the Y cable is too long in length it won't work properly in transferring the data.
There are 2 .nhb files, so make sure your downloading the correct .nbh file (ruu_signed.nbh) and rename the ruu_signed.nbh to SCHUIMG.nbh Has to be capitalized letters when renaming the file.
Make sure the correct ends are plugged in where they should be.
Sometimes the camera button will get stuck in and prevent the device from flashing correctly.
Make sure the SD card is wiped clean and place the file inside the SD card and patch it with the goldcard tool.

There both great roms and there both on the 8779 build... I'm a huge fan of the Deepshining rom though, it has some cool extra features and the new USB video output.
Did you install RSPL or HSPL? If you installed HSPL all you have to do is enter bootloader mode and flash the rom, so it's really easy to switch from one rom to another if you want.
