For the life of me, I can't get the Camera.apk to decompile.
(I wan't to mod the battery percentages and maybe the shutter sound)
Still refuses when I add twframework-res.apk.
I'm using APK Multi-tools, but I'm doing something wrong.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Daan
Use "7z zip" and do extract it. just select as "Open Archive" then drag and drop the file u want edit. after edit again drag n drop to same folder u Opened.
Right that took care of the "focus sound", already deleted the "click sound" in /data/media/audio/ui/
But without decompling I won't be able to edit anything else than drawables, raws and some xml's.
Thanks though.
Does anyone know how to decompile Camera.apk?

Note that using 7zip/winzip is a wrong method of decompiling an apk.You can open it with 7zip/winzip and edit photos and audio files but not any xml file.If you use this method to edit xml file, you wont be able to run the camera app.So you should only use apk-multitool to decompile apks. What does apk-multitool say when you try to decompile it?First try to decompile it without any dependencies and if it doesnt work try with dependencies.
The dependencies would most probably be services.jar,framework.jar.Dont forget to use the same frameworks from which you pulled your camera.apk Frameworks are not interchangeable in all situations

I am trying to edit the battery icon XML files in framework-res.apk. Awhile ago I found a tool that would convert from binary XML to human-readable XML and back again, but for the life of me I cannot find it again.
Anyway, I opened stat_sys_battery_charge.xml with it and all was good, except it mentioned weird names for filenames. Eg instead of 'res/drawable-hdpi/stat_sys_battery_0.png' it was '89845b4jrqyuq34gy34q89tyq34' (or some gibberish like that).
I understand everything up to this point. I understand why those names are encoded like that. What I don't understand is how people figure out these codes. I have been using someone elses framework-res.apk as my base, and they use "v4" folders. Eg 'drawable-hdpi-v4' instead of 'drawable-hdpi'. These filename codes in the XML value were generated for this V4 folder, correct? How did they do that?
I do not want to use a V4 folder in my theme if I can avoid it. If I have to, I still have a problem as to how to correctly point to my battery icons. And no I cannot just replace the PNGs because my changing icons have more frames than the stock XML allows.
Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

Well I'm using apktool for decompiling and I'm also trying to add some icons so maybe the help Daneshm90 has given me can help you Apkmanager
EDIT: Lol you didn't even write you were trying to add icons It is seriously stuck to my brain xD
Does apktool let you change the paths for the filenames in XML files, and correctly re-encodes it when you compile it back? I have been trying desperately to get apktool to work for me, but it just refuses. I'll have to try it on another computer or perhaps a VM then.
If apktool does not correctly handle paths, is there any tool that can? From what I've read, its impossible, but there must be a way!

What do you mean by "paths in XML files"? Apktool decompiles XMLs fully, so you could do everything that you could do with your own app/sources.
Can someone explain how to open a .apk folder to view the files within? Also how to convert it back again with changes made to it? I would like to open the attached folder and change the dialer tones. I tried doing this changing the files in the ui but it didn't change the tones. My belief is they are wrapped in the .so
pretty sure its not in an .so because i dont see a .so tied to that apk. it would either be tied into the smali or you could make changes to the xml to point to different sounds.

My apologies. I'm working with two issues one is an .so and then there is this one, which is indeed an .apk.
So can you explain how I open this?
Get 7zip for windows, install it, open apk with 7zip file manager

but in order to edit any of the xml you will need apk manager.
Hi guys,
im currently using netdrg`s sense theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048792
Now i changed all the green elements of the framework-res.apk to blue. Ive done everything so far, but i have no clue how to edit the color of the progress bar. (the bar when u change the volume, download something and so on...)
Ive heard that u have to edit an xml file, but as i have no clue about editing these files, i want to ask for a little favour.
Ive attached the xml file, and the color which i will use is 1761ab (hex).
So ill thank the guy who will do this for me a thousand times and i can share the theme with you afterwards!
lg l
In order to edit this xml file you need to decompile framework-res.apk. You can use apk_manager. Once the framework has been decompiled you can easily change the hex color for the progress bar (remember that the first 2 digit are for alpha channel). After that you need to recompile the framework. Actually there is another way to do that, but it‘s a bit triky as you need to modify the xmls file by using an hex editor..
If you want i can modify and compile the xml attached for you! Let me know m8
hey, thanks for your answer.
I put the framework-res.apk in the "place here for modding" folder, opened the script and hit 9 to decompile.
Then i edited all the values in the xml file in the "projects" folder and saved it.
Now i compile it, delete the file i edited in the "keep" folder and that other file mentioned.
Now i tried to apply the compiled framework_res.apk back to the system which results in a bootloop, what am i doin wrong?

Ok, you are getting close to the solution
Once you got the unsignedframework.zip inside the place-apk-here-for-modding folder, you have to do a little trick in order to get it working...
Unzip all the content of the "unsignedframework-res.apk". You should have 5 objects (3 folders, 2 files).
Zip these files with Winrar/Winzip (whatever) but you must choose "No compression (store)" method to zip it.
Rename this zip into "framework-res.apk".
Put it into an update.zip and it should be OK to flash trough the recovery mode.
keep me updated
hot to change app img?
I think you want to change the icon of an app, and I´m not sure if I´m the right person to answer this, but you could try to use apktool or something like that to decompile the apk, search for the icon in the decompiled apk, change it, and recompile it.
PS:
Pictures are normally in folders that have a "drawable" in their name.
Hey can someone give me some quick tips on how to edit it?
I edited SystemUI.apk just fine but no matter what I do to framework-res, it won't let me replace the files (I'm only replacing pngs in drawable-mdpi folder)
What error are you getting? Also, install framework with apktool
POTATO!!!!
I think he's talking about drag and drop png file ) If it's true, the solution for him is learning how to decompile apk. Becoz most of png in systemUI is png, not too many 9.png files so it's easy to replace without decompiling

Yup...
Decompile the framework-res.apk with Apktool and then replace the pngs..
I can't recompile because apktool always crashes when trying to recompile XML files. I'm using the AceCream framework apk instead of the stock rom one...
I'll try this on another PC to see if it's some weird software glitch

Well, apktool dumps a stack trace where the error seems to occur in a public.xml file, apk manager says there is a error but the log shows nothing for me
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hbgqlo8pkfff10p/framework-res.apk
Can you test if you can modify this file without errors?
