Help Please. USB Charging but DOWNLOAD mode not recognized - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First Sorry if this subject is solved anywhere, I had a deep search and didn't find anything similar.
Well here is the thing, I was happily using CM9 on my I9000 when I decided to try Glitch. At some point days after installing the kernel, the mass storage cease to function, I mean when i connect the phone to the Pc USB the phone was charging but nothing else happened (no matter which PC or USB port or SO).
Then I thought I had to go back to JVU stock and start again from there. So I put the phone in DOWNLOAD mode but the same thing, (I prefer heimdall in LINUX MINT but I have WIN 7 and other Linux Distros around home).
The warning of new hardware is there but I cant make the DOWNLOAD mode to work.
My bad luck didnt stopped there, I thought It will be a great idea to flash another roms meanwhile to see if the problem vanish, I tried MIUI, back to a nandroid backup I had of AOKP and finally flashing CM9 again, but in the process I end up in a very nice bootloop and I cannot acces any more to recovery via the three buttons combo.
RMA is still out of the picture since the phone is rooted and the bootloop is a nice cyanogen bootanimation.
I know there must be a solution since I can go into DOWNLOAD mode, and in some way the computer acknowledge the phone.
Please help me get my phone back from hell.....

Thanks for the help, I think you are talking about the same drivers at Samsung web, if that Ive already tried them.
I think there must be something I can do in Linux rather than Windows to help heimdall catch the phone. Odin isnt working either.

[Q] Big problems with my Galaxy....Help needed!!

Since yesterday my Galaxy S got stuck. It doesnt start anymore.
What happened?
I flashed my rom to the newest ICS. Everything went well and I used it a couple of days. Yesterdaymorning I did wiped the battery stats and cleared the Davik cache. I rebooted and it got stuck in the bootscreen.
I tried to got in recoverymodus but that was not possible. Bootscreen was all I saw.
Then I tried the downloadme. That is working BUT odin did not see my phone and KIES did also not recognize it. I have the right drivers. When my phone was working it was also not recognized because I am afraid the USB port is not good anymore.
Does anyone have tips?

can you go to recovery?
unfortunately not.
if i do the 3button trick the sreens stays on the bootscreen.
Change your drivers to the Nexus drivers in OP of TH ICS thread and try a different USB port.
Once in odin flash the initial CM7 kernel without reboot then go into recovery and reflash CM9.
installed nexusdrivers.
still nothing happens.
any other suggestions?
thx for the help!!!
Different USB port?
tried all 4 and another laptop
also used different cables.
almost start crying
-prereq-
install samsung drivers for your device and windows install type (x32/x64). It's quite important that you install 64 bit drivers on a 64 bit box and not 32, because they are ****ty and work 7/10 times used.
1. be sure to use the same port.
2. be sure to use ONLY the original cable that came with your phone
3. Make sure your phone is able to enter download mode. (Vol down+Home+Power)
if it does, it should install your drivers without issue about then.
4. If you can't use odin to restore your pda/csc/modem, then use heimdall. If that fails, you need to commandprompt heimdall into flashing with 512.pit + required files (refer for help to the heimdall readme included in their install) file after unpacking pda, modem, csc into the heimdall commandline exe.
If 4 does not work you need to unbrick it via 1clickbrick. It's a jar file you donwnload, dblclick and use.
thx for trying to help me. but I am afraid my USB port (mini) on my galaxy is not working. Tried 4 computers, several drivers but stil no connection possible.
Any other suggestions?

Nope..... I am afraid I lost my Galaxy...... :-(
Had the same problem on Windows machines - for some reason two of my Windows powered computers stopped recognizing my phone. Tried different drivers for no effect, so I gave up and tried it on linux and successfully flashed new kernel using heimdall.
I don't know if this is a legitimate solution because it's like going around the problem instead of solving it, but if everything else fails, try different operating systems.
try charging it..does it charge?
if it doesnt then go in a service and ask them to take a look at it.they will do that for a pack of cigarettes in their extra time.if its fixable and cheap(dont think of replacing the entire motherboard...sell this one for parts and buy another one, or find one with broken display and take em both to a service and tell them to replace the screen from your phone to the other)

[i9000b] BSOD - Phone ! Computer Screen

I had Android 4.0.3 (IceCream Sandwich) on my Galaxy S GT-I9000B (I did install it through Odin, nothing went wrong), but is was laggish (too much for it to handle, I think) and after a few months, I decided to roll it back to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread).
I started the process to install the firmware through Odin3 v1.85 - the file I download (from sammobile.com/firmware, had only one file that I used on the PDA space.
Odin recognized my phone and I started to install it, but after a while my phone was stuck on the downloading screen (2 hours of installation, I tought that something went wrong).
I then turned my phone off to try and install again, but when I turned it on, there were a Phone - exclamation mark - Computer Symbol.
I can get it to dowlonad mode (Volume Down+Home+Power), but when I plug it to the pc, it says "unknown device" and it can't find drivers for it.
I think I have the latest drivers from Samsung (I had from Kies and I re-downloaded a file somewhere from this forum named SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_1_5_6_0.exe).
It appears that since windows can't install the drivers, Odin doesn't recognize the device - it was recognizing it before, when I was installing the firmware.
Now I'm stuck - I tried anything I saw in this forum and in other places - I did even pray for a miracle, but it didn't work
I know that there must be a way, but I don't know how.
Before I forget, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
If you can get it in download mode everything should be fine, I've had a problem like this, my pc couldn't see the phone in download no matter what. Try to use another USB port, better another PC. Also I've heard that x64 doesn't get along well with Odin. If possible you can try Linux and Heimdall, after all Android is Linux too.

Ok, k4Z3666, has given you a starting point...the phone is still in download mode but without a booting ROM, so its OK, the problem is your PC, USB cable or USB port. If you want to be quick about it, just try on a lap top..if not a simple Reboot of PC ( after removing power cord) and Phone (after a battery Pull), and a switch to a different USB port at the back of PC can solve this for some...for other solutions try these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571 anything else you may need can be found on My Android collections., link below

I tried other USB Ports and also rebooting. It was working just fine - it seems like a driver problem to me.
My notebook is dead, but I'll try using someone else computer.
Does Odin runs in Windows XP? I might try it in my virtual box - I doubt that it will work, but it is the best thing I have to do untill tomorrow.
I got it working in my mother's notebook - should I try something different? I only have the PDA, should I try a PIT?
I don't know what those do, but I read somewhere that PIT is used to recover bricked phones.
EDIT: I installed only the PDA, it worked fine on the 2nd time (first time, it got stuck but I could make it work changing the usb port and cable).
Now it is on loop - it repeats the samsung logo over and over again. Any ideas now?

Yep if u want to back to stock u need pit file because ICS use different system file
Why u don't like ICS ? Its way better and faster than sammy ROM even its more stable , I think u should try it again with devil kernel with oc to 1.2 it will fly u can add some live oc which will give more fluidity

I used a firmware from my country (available here: sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9000B&pcode=ZTO&os=1&type=1#firmware) and I wiped the cache (I'm not sure what this means, but I believe it is the 2 options on volume up+menu+power)

ICS wasn't faster here - it was laggish and always crashed some common apps (gallery, music player). I believe that the firmware wasn't completely "done" as it was being adapted from another version (my phone is brazilian) and some functionalities that it has (i.e. digital TV) wasn't available.
What I done to correct the boot was simple (I found a tutorial in a brazilian site, so it had all the roms that I needed).
1) Used a PIT and a stock rom to get it back to factory version;
2) Upgraded to Froyo (original) - That was kind of a mistake, the tutorial said to do it because then KIES would update it automatically to Gingerbread. The phone was fully functional, but KIES said that it couldn't update it (it recognized the phone and everything).
The tutorial stoped there, but since I had the ROM, I used Odin to install Gingerbread (the one that was looping) and it was done.
Now I need to remember how to root it because there are some dumb apps who can't get away (i.e. Orkut app, some demo games).
Thank you all for the help!

Ohmy if im not mistaken, that app is for the asus transformer yet you used it on a galaxy note....
Only step i can think of is if you can manage to get into recovery there, you can wipe data. This would reset you to default..
Or if it really cant get in there, then just flash back to gingerbread and back to your preferred rom..

Just a thought, why not try to take out the sd card and booting again?
Try turning it on when connected to usb and see if the pc detects a connected device.
I don't know much about this, but if you can't get ANY sign from your phone, it might be hard bricked...

Consider what happened as an act of laziness. Btw I read that it was for transformer but never thought it can lead to serious hard brick issues. Well tried with a jig it didnt work and also I found out my battery isnt charging through the phone (I used my frnds phone to check ). I just want to try everything before giving it to service center.

I think that app triggered the emmc bug though I was on notecore. Maybe who knows..Its sunday here so i ll make a visit tomorrow to the service center. Well just dont use that app
Try the Jig first but if you cant even see anything on screen or When you connect the device to pc, if there is no signal no sound nothing than most probably you super bricked your phone. Then the best way is to send it to the samsung service. If you still have guaranty that is the best option
I also superbricked my galaxy note and send it to service they coulndt undersrtand what happened and they fixed it.

broken Recovery Mode.. help needed

Hello,
first i want to excuse me for my bad english, i hope you will understand my problem.
I have a rooted GT-S5830 with Froyo (2.2.1).
The plan was to install CWM and then a custom Rom.
I've downloaded CWM 5.0.2.6 for the Galaxy Ace, renamed the .zip to update.zip (it doesn't work while it was named CWM_XXXXXXX.zip), copied it to SD-Card and installed it via the original Recovery Mode.
The Installation went well, i rebooted the phone and everything was fine.
Now the problem: I can't go to the Recovery Mode.
Every Time I press Home and Power, my Phine stuck at the second SAMSUNG-Logo and, after a few minutes, it boot to the"normal" Mode.
I've tried to do an update via KIES, but my Notebook says that the Phone will not be seen in Download-Mode...
Odin didn't see the Phone (same Problem...Download Mode...)
So... Is there any Idea to restore the Recovery Mode or renew it or... whatever.
Thank you all
greetings
stanse
now everything is broken...
OK,
thank you for thinking about it, now the Phone doesn't boot any more.
It stucks at the first SAMSUNG Logo.
In a german forum i found a .exe which will bring the phone to recover mode, i've tested it and now evrything is broken...

Here is the link on how to install stock Gingerbread rom using odin along with all firmwares. Go to the "Preparations" section and download all the necessary files including drivers. When your notebook cannot detect the phone, its usually the drivers. To go to the download mode, hold Vol Down+ Home + Power button until you see "Downloading..." in the screen.
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,

Do post the result. Hope I Helped
Thank you for your post.
The biggest problem is that the phone will not be shown in download mode, so Odin says that there is no phone connected.
I have tried 3 different driver packages...
The link to Samsung says that the phone (GT-S5830) is too old for letting me download any driver.
I think that everything will work when the phone will be recognized by computer..
Thx

It looks different like at my Galaxy S4, but there is written "downloading" in yellow letters
No Samsung Logo before, no sound, no animation...
Hope that this is the right mode...

That is the Download Mode of Galaxy Ace alright. All you have to do now is connect to the odin and it should detect the phone. If not please reinstall the drivers. Hope I Helped
I've done exactly what you say nearly hundred times, with different driver packages, different computers, different cables, yesterday, today, at morning, afternoon and evening. I don't know what to do now...
I think that it is a driver fault, but no chance to fix it.
There are lots of problems wich are more important than this...
Thank you for your help, but i think that i need a new way to solve the problem.
Time will tell.
Thx

Another Ace, another fail...
Next try with Windows XP, hope i will find a computer with XP...
Is there anyone who connected an ace to a linux OS?
Is there a live CD with an OS wich will be
Supported by all necessary programs?
When there will be no solution, than there is another question: WILL IT BLEND???

I don't know what you mean by connecting to Linux. But if you meant using odin in Linux, then well it will not work even with Wine. Wine doesn't work reliably with things that need hardware connections.
