[APP] CNN Mobile -[R]- 12/11/2010 -[U]- 1/14/2011 -[V]- 1.4.0.0

CNN Mobile
Hello everyone, I am looking for feedback on my apps I created. Here is my first app. Please comment here and if you enjoy it please leave feedback on the actual review for the marketplace. Price is .99 however I offer an fully function ad supported version as a trial. It only nags the first launch it ever does. The ads are removed after purchase. Please let me know. Also this app is under attack on the marketplace by competition you will notice the first 4 posts are all 1 and are by competition (I have verified this with microsoft however they will not remove them).

View CNN's Mobile website at the click of a finger. Clicking on the CNN Logo on the app itself will take you directly back to CNN. Using the arrow on the left will function as a back button. This is a very simple and effective web browser. Enjoy!

Here is another app it is available and has the 1.4 update w/ad support and all the bug fixes.
NewsPaper 7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914052
I tried your app and posted a good comment. Can't really low star you anyways your description says exactly what the app is. BTW it looks like your competition is flaming you with their own app.
just downloaded your app. it looks pretty neat. will leave a good review!
no problem
I will put feed back
Hey,
I just checked out your app. It's nice and quick way to view the CNN mobile webpage. I do have one question, what's the real advantage of using your app compared to just pinning the CNN Mobile homepage to the startscreen?
Btw, I used this website to check on your reviews: ttp://wp7reviews.tomverhoeff.com/AppReviews.aspx?id=cfe3f2e2-db08-e011-9264-00237de2db9e
Looks like the positive reviews are coming through. I won't review you, although i like the concept of the app i agree with some of the review that paying for just a webbrowsercontrol is kind of silly. If you offered it for free it would be 5 stars.
Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. Well the advantage to using my website is not alot of people actually know the mobile site by heart, and my app shows more of the screen than the internet explorer. Also my app shows an icon that goes a little more with the overall design element of the windows phone 7. That's why I'm offering it at .99C plus if you want to just continue using the trial for free it can be the update does have an ad that will support me and there will be no nag screen except during the very first launch if people just want to use the trial. In all honesty i prefer my NewsPaper 7 app. It's got about 14 websites in it and the ability to add two of your own.
Hey,
Just checked your NewsPaper 7 app, to be honest i think that's what should be called your first app since it really ads functionality. It's a really quick way of accessing the mobile webpages.
Btw, just wondering. Are you using ads from MS Ads SDK? How are the results, do you see any good eCPM?

Well, CNN Mobile was what I wanted when I first got it so thats what i started with. NewsPaper 7 is what ended up being kind of a mix of ideas and I did not want to flood the market w/ 1.29 or .99 apps. So I created one I could price at 2.99 then drop to 1.99..1.29...then .99 once my sales went up. The NewsPaper7 app started as an idea one morning and was done that night, the results are very pleasing and what I'm actually using on my phone. I am considering cross platforming this app into the blackberry tablet however I need to look more into that SDK prior to launch.
Yes the ads are from the MS SDK, if you do financial ads like I have the eCPM is averaging between 60-200$ per 1000. It seems the more ads you display the more it goes down. So I am still trying to tweak the right combination.
My CNN App is suppose to have the bug fixes and the back hardware button work correctly, the update is accepted its just Microsoft has declined every version # in between. And since the two apps were developed side by side the version number once it hits the marketplace jumps from 1.0 to 1.4.
NewsPaper 7? I can't find it using the Zune software on my PC... Is that the actual name?
zune looks to not be finding it under that tag for some reason try news paper 7, or just follow this direct link http://bit.ly/dR5L7B I have also now added direct links to zune on both apps.
I left a good review for you since I quite like it. I'm from Canada, and I'm the first to leave a rating, so hopefully this helps out.
Thank you. I honestly hate how the market is segregated by nationality. It should be segregated by language instead. If you haven't purchased it you should try NewsPaper 7. It does more websites than the CNN Mobile. The trial version will run for ever on the NewsPaper 7.

I want you guys share your best and favorite apps with images and description for the help for those who are looking for their required apps
I like Emergency Medical Services Honeycomb App
This app gives you a honeycomb tablet version of the classic guide to Basic & Intermediate Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) for use in emergency situations.
I use Documents to Go daily. I'm a worship leader and its the BEST app I have found for displaying lyrics and chord sheets while I'm playing. You can fully edit Word docs and Excel sheets and its a great PDF viewer. It has full Google docs integration and you can even view power point presentations. I have the pro version but the free version is great in itself and the pro is well worth the money.
I had to take the screenshots on my phone (no wifi here) but you get the idea.
Spalshtop Remote Desktop is AMAZING! It allows full access to your PC including the ability to stream video and audio to your xoom! Hands down the best and fastest remote desktop app on the market.

I'd much rather use the free teamviewer
Hit thanks or ill hit you
My favorite app is CamScanner. You scan a document with your device and it saves it as a PDF. I was able to get rid of tons of paper because of this app. Now I have copies of all my documents in one place, nicely organized. Not to mention, I'm able view and edit them with ezpdf.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I really like AutomateIt. Easy to set up device rules - use it on my Nexus S and Xoom.

Have you seen MobileSheets? It's by far my favorite Xoom app. I imported all of my PDF sheet music (which took a while) and now I have instant access to them. I can also build setlists very quickly. The dev is very responsive - he has added a few features I've requested.
I also am a worship leader/musician.
I can't post links yet, but it has a free and pro version.

Lately I have been working on a handy application for every poker player. The app is called Texas Hold'Em Poker Odds en does exactly what the name suggests, it calculates your winning odds on the poker table . The app is specifically designed for Windows Phone and features some very fast algorithms to estimate your odds. I hope you guys like it, it will hit the Market Place soon and will be free with a little advertisment. Possibly an adfree version for a small fee will come if there is demand. I am open to any suggestions, I have also been thinking about the possibility of making the free version completely ad free after an x amount of uses instead of a paid version.
Let me know what you guys think. The xap is attached to this post so everybody with a developer unlocked handset can try it out already.
Market Place Description
“People would be surprised to know how much I learned about prayer from playing poker” Mary Austin
But is praying really necessary? Once you master the odds, you've mastered the game. With Texas Hold'Em Poker Odds, you will increase your chances to become king of the table. Become a winner with every single hand! What are you waiting for?
Texas Hold'Em Poker Odds features fast and highly optimized algorithms to determine your probabilities on the table. It is uniquely developed for Windows Phone and feautures a nice Metro-style user interface. Texas Hold'Em Poker Odds is developed by Windows Phone enthusiasts and Poker fans who are looking to provide you the best possible experience.
So take a seat, shuffle the cards, raise the stakes and win big!

Add ability to scan & recognize flop/player's cards, to avoid a manual input (it's a tricky but not a rocket science 'cause of chance to use a predefined patterns). Marvin, check that stuff http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/238114/Realtime-Webcam-Sudoku-Solver , it's a really cool (and I already have ported some important parts to WP7).
However (truly) the app is useless (doesn't matter you play with friends or in casino) - you'll be blamed/shamed/banned in seconds by using this app in a real game
If you want to make a poker tool, how about a bankroll management app. Tournament and cash games, add some stats and give it the ability to back up to SkyDrive.

Ah yeah thats possible but it would be odd to use in real life right. Although I have already madr a Bradley filter which will make image recognition much more easy, detecting cards is still quite tricky. But I have seen an article about it, using a photo edit library.
Yeah thats true, but you can also use it to train yourself to gain more insight in probabilities or use it afterwards to calculate what the odds were of you winning/losing. Or you can have a friend with you in the casino who will look the odds up and signal it to you
Btw I have done that sudoku recognition, but the OCRing is a pain in the ass as Sudokus in news papers have a lot of different fonts and those techniques did not work on all fonts (we had a similar approach). However it might be working like they did it here I have not read the code, just the article. Also I have a very fast Sudoku solver which I can maybe dig up if you need it. Its already in C#.

That would be cool yes, but than for a different app I guess. As this app just focusses on the computation of the odds. A real app to track your win and losses on several tournaments will involve a whole different set up. Non the less certainly a cool idea
It could be part of a complete poker app with different tools. Odds calculator, bankroll management, casino locator with reviews, etc.

So I get in my truck, plug in my phone and head down the road... and then I see something like "Could not connect to Android Auto, please look at your phone when it is safe to do so". I pull over and grab my phone and the Android Auto app is showing me an ad for Play Music All Access. It did this twice today.
Google, sometimes you suck!
Google ads at its finest. Soon it will be like "I'm pulling you over for breakfast, please prepare password to access google wallet", or "It seems that this nearby store has item you've been searching for today with google, I have already ordered and paid for one". And peoples will be like - "thank you master google". Work, sh!t, sleep, consume.
I'm sorry, but this is what we get for demanding everything for free. No one's willing to pay a dime for software, and expect billions of dollars in development to just be...charity?

I'm sorry too, but it is the developers that have set this expectation with consumers. Look at Google Play... practically everything there is free with either ads or in app purchases (which, fortunately, now have to be disclosed in the listing). Hell, if your app is worth a damn, put a price on it! But no, they want users instead (or their app is garbage and people won't pay for it anyway).

It's tough though. If you make a great app and charge even a dollar for it, WAY more people are going to get the mediocre app for free rather than pay EVEN A DOLLAR, let alone real money. It forces developers to push the free options or just go out of business.

Possibly... but what came first the chicken or the egg? I look at apps like Tasker and Pocket Casts and they seem to be doing alright. Many others as well. Let's face it, most of what is in the Play Store is junk. I'd like to think the average Android user is becoming more sophisticated, and would prefer to spend a few bucks rather than to load their device up with a lot of junk.
But I don't profess to totally understand the market. There are still a lot of mysteries; like really well executed and supported apps that seem to have no revenue stream, i.e. ES File Explorer. So go figure. (c;

Yes !!
Blaming developers for the fact that most people don't want to pay for apps seems counter-intuitive to me.
That said, the situation is complex; Devs do not move together as a group and neither do users. We can say the same things about politicians vs the people who vote for them; each group of nations, nations, and the various levels of more local governrnents all have their own peculiarities.
Google has a major role here too. IMO Google has long benefited from free apps (and piracy) and I feel it's effectively a FEATURE of Android. Google makes 90% of their money from advertising, and a sizable chunk is from advertising within free apps. Google doesn't really seem to care if app devs make money; they care about GOOGLE making money.
That said, there ARE many mediocre devs out there and I don't think ALL devs DESERVE to be able to make a livable income from their apps.

The challenge for devs is to find an app niche that's easy enough to do, while at the same time being hard enough to copy.
I've picked some niches (FM on AOSP & Android Auto HU) that are hard to do and require difficult reverse engineering. The result is that I have almost no competition, which is nice. But the tasks are VERY hard and take a lot of time to do reasonably well.
Then there's piracy, which is a "fact of life" for devs. It's VERY easy to find almost any app with a quick Google search. The best solution I have for that is to support people well technically and make them WANT to help support me financially.
Some devs complain that "they stole my idea" and feel they can't protect their ideas. My response is that ideas are "a dime a dozen" and this is to be expected if your idea is good and easy to copy. IMO other devs are welcome to "steal my ideas" if they have the ability to make them work. So many ideas are pretty self evident/obvious; hard part is following through and making them work.
AdAway FTW.

Best web browser to use?

I think it would have to be either NetSurf or a terminal browser, like links, w3m, lynx or elinks. Firefox is a sinking ship and so is any forks of it and Chrome is obviously not safe, but the best fork of it would be Ungoogled-Chromium, which even then that's not saying it's foolproof, because of the massive codebase that comes with Chromium and the fact that Google is still being supported by proxy. Pale Moon is starting to head in the wrong direction also, and smaller projects like Otter Browser and Suckless Surf, while promising, suffer from small dev teams, little to no addon support and lack their own engines and instead rely on Goooooogle and Crapple instead. But even then, you would have to wean yourself off of the modern web and stick to websites like neocities or wiby.me if you were to use stuff like NetSurf or elinks.
Also, what about email? I'd try RiseUp or Disroot w/ GPG encryption using the Claws webmail client w/ KeePassX or KeePassXC for generating email passwords stored on a removable drive. Although I heard self-hosting is also decent. Which is better?

Thank you for posting this and letting me know about Brave Private Web Browser, I was using Google Chrome then Samsung Internet prior to this. And honestly, I feel like I really missed out for a long time, thinking Samsung Internet sucked when I knew nothing about how it worked. I prefer it now, but I'll start using the Brave Browser as my default browser from now on.
And thanks for the Private DNS information!

Samsung is good for vids if you add some ad blockers from the Galaxy store. Just mind the download folder for unauthorized downloads.
Had a trojan preloader slip by Samsung somehow. It died in that folder
When in doubt try to back out of a bad website, if that fails close the browser tab, if that fails close the browser. If all that fails clear cache. If nothing gets it go full nuke and clear browser data. For over 2 years nothing has made it in again... I check the download folder at least once a day nonetheless.
Brave gets tarded with vids on the borders and I like multiple browsers anyway. The Samsung browser I have more configured for streaming vids. Brave is better for surfing, it's pretty much bullet proof; nothing has ever slipped by it.
My Brave browser has over a hundred open tabs, it don't care

Thank you for all your help, I'll be sure to remember that process in case I fall into a hole like that again.
Lol.

I'm spilling black coffee as I post
I feel a thread merge a-coming. Or post like the sharks fed; thread frenzy! Or like free ranging long horns graze... those other browser threads were getting like bathroom wallpaper anyway.
