Hi everyone,
My menu and back buttons have stopped working on my SaskTel I9000M (same model as Bell). I am currently running Team ICSSGS RC4.2 with Semaphore ICS 1.0.
I need to get back to stock as I doubt they will honor my warranty if it has custom ROM on it. I have tried installing a stock rom in the past, but the bootloader always says I9000 rather than I9000M.
Thank you.

Hi there. I'm new to the Android scene, so please bear with me.
Recently got a stock Rogers i896 (unlocked) running Eclair 2.1 update 1. Rooted using z4root, installed Perception build 10.1. Rooted & unlocked. Working great, minus GPS.
Now that the official Rogers Froyo update is out, I'm looking to upgrade to a custom ROM based on the official Rogers firmware. The latest cognition build seems like a good choice for me.
However, I have a few doubts before updating. I know that I should disable voodoo lagfix before updating. The main issue is that I still have my stock i896 boot, and I would like to keep it that way. In order to install a new ROM, I've read that it's advisable to go back to "stock Eclair". However, to my understanding, most of these guides would actually end up putting AT&T Eclair onto my phone, which is highly undesirable.
Can somebody please shed some light on this? I've come across CWM flashable i896 stock froyo, but I'm unsure as to whether this would qualify as flashing "back to stock". I obviously don't know what I'm talking about, and I've honestly tried my best to read up and understand these terms. Any help would be appreciated.
Baseband:I9000UGJK4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 (Firebird #37)
Build: Perception 10.1
Edit: Realized this is in the wrong section. So sorry.
+1 , i got a phone that was rooted off someone today and i want to bring mine back to stock...
hi all, friend has flashed the alpha cm7 onto his phone, i'm just wondering if anyone has had any issues flashing back to a stock firmware?
if not, what is the best rom to flash? to my knowledge, the bell firmwares do not re-partition properly or something.
Thanks in advance.
Hi all, so I recently sent in my I9000M Bell Vibrant to the service centre in Montreal to get it fixed (it had a fried internal SD) and they sent it back to me with a replaced motherboard (that's what I'm assuming because the phone's mac address changed and the internal SD is in working order now) but as a result the phone is no longer unlocked, which is a problem because I'm not with Bell.
They shipped the phone back to me with 2.3.3 installed, kernal version 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3 and I was wondering if anyone could help me root this thing so I can get it unlocked. I looked around the forum and tried SuperOneClick which didn't work and was unsure of where to go from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
try flashing one of the kernels designed to install root e.g. Chainfire's kernel (basically stock plus root)or Hardcore's kernel (custom kernel but very robust) -- as you are on KG3 you will need a kernel designed for 2.3.3, not one for jvr or jvs.
Both CF and HC are very good at listing all their kernel variants with the right number of the firmware.
Flash using Odin with the kernel as pda, HC especially has some some clear instructions posted. It will leave you on KG3 stock rom and CSC.
You can also jump some steps, flash stock JVR as pda, leaving your KG3 modem and CSC in place, then flash a more recent JVR 2.3.4 version of either the HC or CF kernel or one like Damian's if you want to move further away from stock.
There are some further questions and answers in the thread on KG3 -- Bell users finally got a GB modem but not the latest GB firmware yet. Some have chosen to customize and go with thelatest firmware, some just wanted to root and stay on stock KG3.

hi did you ever figure out how to root this? i'm tryign to figure it out too
I have the same question.
I have the same question. All I really want to do is root the phone and keep the stock GKG3 kernel. However, I can't find a tool that works on the Bell i9000m running this 2.3.3 version of Android.
I've tried superoneclick and the Gingerbreak tool from Chainfire but nothing works.
Is the only way to root this to update the kernel? I was looking at the CF-ROOT downloads and not sure which one I would use if I used this option.
Kernel
thanks igsshedden. I found Hardcores kernel for the i9000m here

Found this method to update the I9000M http://blog.brahm.ca/2011/08/install-android-233-with-root-on.html
Will try and post my results.
Think it was cf-root 3.7 kernel that I flashed with Odin to get root then from there tried a bunch of roms now I'm using what's in my Sig and its wicked

I flashed stock jvp gingerbread with odin so the phone became an i9000, instead of i9000m then you can flash a rooted rom,I then used Galaxy S Unlock from the market to unlock. took a lot of figuring but it worked. good luck

Hi guys,
My friend has a Galaxy S I9000 running on UXKH2 2.3.3 firmware with Rogers Canada. Can you let me know what is the safe 2.3.5 firmware to upgrade to? Thanks.
In my opinion there's no "safe" or rather fully stable stock 2.3.5 firmware at this moment because of phone.apk bug.
I would flash JVT, the latest one.
ya just flash jvt but use kg3 modem and csc files. install phone fix as zip from sd card. and no forces closes....Ive been running this since it was available with no issues....unlocked phone on Rogers btw.
i've seen people talk about the phone.apk bug, but i havent had any bug with stock JVT + CF-Root 4.3.
is there a way to replicate the bug to see if i have it?
Sorry but i am confused
I have been looking around in this forum for a couple of days now.
I broke (temporary) my Samsung Galaxy S I9000 (I have the stupid one where the 3 Botton Method isn't working) with Heimdall. But i got it fixed i installed the Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
the only question left is can i install (flash) CM10 on my Phone with this Kernel or do i have to get Gingerbread 2,3... in adwance
on Cyanogenmod (Homepage) it says
The install guide assumes the Galaxy S is running Android 2.3. Official CyanogenMod support is for ONLY for the International Version (GT-I9000), Bell Vibrant (GT-I9000M), and Telcel Galaxy S (GT-I9000T), NOT any other Samsung Galaxy S variant
I am currently running
Android 2.2
Baseband I9000XXJPP
Kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#24 (luckily I good it running )
Build Nr FROYO.XWJPA
I am able to get it into CWM revovery with adb
So the question is if i am not able to install CM 10 the alternativ is Darky 10 (but in this case do i have to reflash the kernel for Darky to ).
Sorry for my bad English
and the Question
Please help the stupid once
Kernel is fine. You can flash directly to anything you want. However, since you phone was never updated to GB, you are probably still using the old bootloader rather than the Gingerbread bootloader. I think the Darky resurrection rom has GB bootloader. The bootloader doesn't actually make a huge difference, but some people claim that it improves battery life. The only noticeable difference I found was when you reboot the phone, the screen becomes static for a second if you are using a GB rom on a Froyo bootloader.
Btw, you can still use Froyo rom on GB bootloader.
