I have't fooled with the tegra plugins. I'm not a gamer, but was wondering if the plugin brings any other attributes other than the games? Does it get you a higher score in quadrant? Does it improve the browser experience? I'm hoping someone has already done the research and can just tell me?
From my understanding, chainfire 3d only fixes compatibility with OpenGL apps. I suppose if an OpenGL game were optimized for a particular gpu but works with all gpus, chainfire could improve performance if you used the particular gpu plugin the game was optimized for.
I didnt think it would make a diff. I just thought id ask. Thanks for the info.

Why doesn't the G1 have hardware graphics acceleration? Doesn't it have a GPU? Wouldn't this make scrolling smooth like the iPhone?
im note sure it only lists a cpu in the specs on the htc site
I think it does have a GPU but its pretty limited. I believe it supports the OpenGPL API? I could be wrong though... However yes, all smartphones should have a decent GPU really to help things along.
I'm eargerly awaiting the Sony Ericsson XPERIA3 ^_^
It does have hardware graphics acceleration. There is a demo game in the market called Neocore that demonstrates some of the possibilities.
If you don't want to install it, there is a youtube video here
I think the RAM is the major limiting factor, not the graphics. We used to have the same Graphics chip as the iphoney...but damn if the 3G-S didn't leapfrog us.
RAM is only one thing, the iPhone 3G S has a much better CPU too as its a nerfed version of their multi-core CPU coming out next year.
We should be seeing dual and quad core ARMs next year and a much better GPU. Fact is the iPhone's OS has been optimised heavily to run on its hardware, while Android is still not 100% tailored for the hardware its running on, instead it was designed to run on as many platforms and configurations as possible by stock.
Hey guys, have you ever heard that you can Overclock your GPU??
Some user got it done on Kaiser and scored 36.5 FPS on NeoCore!! Isn't it great??! Our devices are rather stronger that Kaiser... To do this, you have to add this line at your startup.txt:
clock_7x00.grp=0ax99
But that it doesn't seem to work... Because we need a kernel that let us to do this... Also, someone said it's not .grp and it's .gpu!
I'm really confused with that. So, let me know your experiences and let's discuss about this... Just imagine that you can play a lot of 3D apps much faster than you do right now... With a NAND build, we can hopefully get a functional Android on Topaz (Comparable to LEO)

That's related to overclocking the CPU... I'm talking about GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) which is different.

No so good, these results only because these devices have QVGA screens.
I seen even 37.9fps on my Polaris w/o GPU overclocks:

For our devices better way is decrease resolution like 240x400.
If I will use chainfire on o2x the games will look like on e.g. galaxy s2 or I don't know like on adreno gpu's ? I mean asphalt 7 isn't looking like it suposed to be....and If I will use chainfire it will look better and no lag?
nvidia gefore ulp gpu is really underpowered. and gameloft doesnt optimise for tegra. so yeah nothing can be done about it
so chainfire 3d will not work?if I will use qualcomm plugin?
Hello everyone! I'm new in the forum, so please forgive me if I do anything wrong (although I doubt it :silly: )
I was browsing the Play Store when this application got my attention. It's called Tegra Overclock (not Tegrak). It is supposed to make our Tegra device's CPU cores run at full load and overall improve the performance, especially in games. Now, since it's a paid application I want to ask those who have bought the app if it's worth it's money and if it indeed increase the performance.
I can't give you a link since XDA won't let new members post links, but you can easily find it by searching "Tegra Overclock" on Play Store!
Thank you!

We only need to improve the GPU performance. The CPU performance of our device is more than enough. :good:
Anyway, if you really want to improve performance use a custom kernel like WerewolfJB or Eternity. You also have scripts like V6supercharger, etc... I'm not saying that the app doesn't work, i'm just trying to save you 2.30€...
the app really works and improves gaming performance! I recommend it as it`s as simple as installing and using an app!
Its handy for changing govs/freqs on the fly, also on werewolf kernel you can clock GPU to 520mhz like one x, dungeon hunter 4 used to lag like hell but now it plays quite good!

The OMAP4470 has a separate GUI accelerator processor (CGPU) specifically to make compositing the GUI more efficient and faster than what the PowerVR GPU can do. I came across the OMAP4470 whitepaper and this primarily covers the benefits of the CGPU. They write specifically about high resolution (1920x1080) and the benefits of the CGPU in this case (our case!).
I've been trying to figure out if there is special setup necessary to use this CGPU, or if it is part of the PowerVR driver, or whatever the deal is. I really can not find much information about it or the setup of it! Maybe its operation is transparent like the Cortex M3 cores?

Maybe somebody here has a clue about it?
