What do you all think is the likelihood of us getting CyanogenMod 7 for the Droid 3? If you do think it's possible, how long do you think it may be? More than 8 weeks?
I know I'd love to have Cyanogen or a clone running on my D3, but there's lots of things that have to come first, like bootstrapping, and custom recovery before anyone can even begin baking anything. At least moto already has the source code up online, so that will save sometime. Give it some time, something will happen, but be polite and don't ask for ETA's.
I'm ready to get built in tethering. Someone needs to custom recovery quick!
Unless I'm missing some other kind of underground movement, it's not likely that we will ever see cyanogenmod support:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices
There is no Droid 2 support. No Droid Incredible 2 support. No Droid X support. No Droid X2 support... and so on. I'm thinking now that I was spoiled with my Droid1 when it comes to aftermarket and custom rom support.
there are CM7 ports for D2 and D2G. Give it time, it will happen. I for one ran several CM7 nightly builds, MIUI, and a few others on my D2.

My apologies, I realize now that asking for ETAs is a bit annoying. I should have realized that when I noticed how annoying it was that every other response in the "Can this root Droid 3?" thread was "how close are we?"
Thanks for the knowledgeable response.

That seriously needs to be updated. There are official CM builds for the Droid X, the Droid 2 and the Incredible 2 as well as quite a few other devices not listed on that page.
Look at their github products...
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_vendor_cyanogen/tree/gingerbread/products
the droid 2 is cyanogen_droid2.mk
the droid x is cyanogen_shadow.mk
the inc 2 is cyanogen_vivow.mk
Would absolutely love to see it happen. D3 is my favorite hardware so far (out of nearly a dozen devices I use for testing)...CM7 would simply make it the perfect device.
The Droid 3 will most certainly receive CM7 and MIUI; however, a recovery must first be released, and once 2nd init with gingerbread kernels is perfected it will have to be ported to the Droid 3.

Seeing CM7 on the D3 certainly would be great, but considering the number of devices the team supports, I would expect it to be a late-comer to the party. Once we get clockwork, expect to see Woodyman and DC dropping the first ROM (since Woody already owns a D3), followed by Chevy (I hope) and Pete. I really believe we are going to end up with a fairly extensive firmware list for this device, considering the massive popularity of the Droid. We should have some happy days in the near future!

We've had leaked versions from Motorola's staging servers since February, and Motorola sent out an invite to potential soak testers in March (which they have not yet acted on).
I don't really expect much out of an update other than kernel and radio updates (I get everything else from the awesome ROMs by our devs), but I'd still like to see something come out!!
So, with that in mind, please feel free to rant and speculate below.
I wouldn't be surprised with nothing coming in the future.
Because Motorola is a whore.
I've seen a couple of posts on various forums with peole receiving replacement or new Droid 3s that already have the 906 update installed. It's possible they've just decided to skip the soak test and are planning to push the update soon. Of couse this is entirely just speculation.

My replacement Droid 3 came with the .906 update already installed. Hopefully they'll roll it out soon so the fastboot files will leak

My brother's replacement he got last week came with 890. Was kinda of happy about that since there's not way back from 906 last time i checked.
D2 and D4 Received Updates This Week
DroidForums.net reported on their Twitter feed that updates for the Droid 2 and Droid 4 rolled out on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. Hopefully we'll see something soon for our phone!
I hadn't seen that (but then again, I don't do much twitter so no surprise I guess
I am really considering just installing the 906 update anyway, but if this is coming soon I'd rather the official update.

Are there really NEW new Droid 3's out there with .906? I can understand a refurb coming with it (due to some flaw in the refurb process where Moto forgets to do a true factory reset on a user-updated device). It's all speculative as you say, but that would be a good sign...
No
As title Says, Motorola Released an updated lineup of Devices to Receive ICS. Bionic is scheduled to get it in Early Q3 so I assume July ish. This is Straight from the Horses mouth (So to speak) lol. Hopefully we get a leak by jun though!

I came from the world of AT&T and Samsung. I will be stoked when we actually get it. Until then, I will assume "Early Q3 of this year" means late Q3 of next year, lol.
I'm currently using gummy ics and it works perfectly. I think I can manage a little while longer without an "official" build including all of Verizon's bloat.

GummyICS is nice, but no ICS ROMs for the Bionic have hardware acceleration, HDMI, or properly working data (as in without the random drops). Stuff always leaks before it gets released, so I'm sure there will be a rooted, bloat-free ROM before it gets officially released by Motorola. Also, now that the Googlerola deal went through, maybe it will happen a little quicker...and a little less bloaty.
I did notice the lack of hardware acceleration when trying to use chrome beta, but I have yet to experience data drops on both 3g and 4g.

The bloat is mostly from Verizon, only some from Motorola (Motocast, motoactv, etc...). So the Googlerola deal likely won't fix that particular issue.

Im Looking forward to the Lapdock Update the most. It would be nice to gain some speed on this little bad boy.
Won't the next Android version be announced by then? That would kinda be a downer considering we're still waiting for ICS. To me it doesn't matter that much at this point because there are already Gingerbread roms out there with an ICS theme. Not exactly like the real thing but for me it's good enough, heh.

I like how they call it zumocast on the bionic but motocast on some of their other devices. I wouldn't consider it bloat though. Every phone should come with an app like that. It's pretty useful.

Owned, son!
Sorry I couldn't resist. But still, I've been following the wait on ICS since I got my bionic back in October, and ICS will be welcome when it finally gets here. Id follow cheesecake myself but I hate stock blur with a passion, so I follow XDA.

If we do not get ICS soon, i would not be surprised if the Bionic "fell through the cracks".
You should be surprised, since engineering builds are already being spread around. Doesn't take *too much* more than getting approval and changing the signatures to make it a user build.
Honestly all we need is 1 leak with a good kernel and we can switch over to CM9 through Bootstrap or Safestrap into CM9 and have a working camera/video and hardware acceleration.
I reactivated mine, and wanted to make sure I had a good current ROM. Looking through, I find a lot of dead links and old information.
Are people still developing for this phone?
It's not a super active community, but it is still alive.
The host site for a lot of the information (droidhive) was taken down a few weeks back and there hasn't been a good replacement made yet. I don't think we'll ever see an unlocked bootloader and if we do, it will probably be too little, too late. I expect ICS to eventually be released officially in the near future. That will put some life back into the community, but overall I would expect that new development will be minimal.
There just are not enough people--especially devs--still using the device.

That said, there are ICS build leaks directly from Moto. But be weary about going above the .232 build and we don't have the FXZ at the moment. If you flash a newer version, there is no way to return to stock should something happen.
We don't have a direct bootloader unlock from Moto but I do believe we have Kexec. Its the best we have atm but with Kexec there has been a few people getting JB started for us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1862459
With Kexec development is picking up. Would be better if moto would give us a Bootloader Unlock but I don't think that will happen. We're still waiting for an official ICS release. I am holding off on JB til we get an official ICS release and when JB is stable enough to use as a daily rom.

This is true. Kexec is a work around to load a Kernal on top of another Kernal and bypass the stock bootloader. This is in its infancy right now but will grow. I guess by years end we should have JB CM10 rom that should be stable. That is PURELY an educated guess. The Bionic has love but not nearly as much as it should have.

The problem with the bionic community is that you have to go to 5 or more different sites to get everything for it. I've been an Android owner for over 3 years, and have had 4 different phones and 1 tablet, and this was the first device that I wasn't able to get everything here at XDA.
Its been a rock solid phone for me though and I love safestrap.

A few of the most active bionic developers have had threads locked and been blocked from xda, so it is a bit more work to keep track of them.

Perhaps it is due to the phone did not come out when the Etna was supposed to. It is also a year old and people have moved on to work on newer phones?
Ronald, it was like that even when the bionic was new. I bought mine within the first week it came out. Xda has been one of the last places to come for information with this phone.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Right, but he's pointing out how the Bionic was delayed for a long, long time (and completely changed from the original Etna model), so a lot of people simply skipped over it. Locked bootloaders never help either.
I was looking and couldn't find any information if CM12 will be supported for the TF701. Does any of the devs who working on CM11 indicated that they would be working on CM12?
Thanks
Yes, pershoot said he'd be working on it.
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!
Not a lot of developers on the Transformer TF701t unfortunately. Sad that my old acer Tegra 2 tablet I sold has more being developed for it!
Hopefully we may get a 5.0 upgrade from Acer as I do actually like the stock version. Love the speed and look of Lollipop on my G3 and hope to have it on the tab too.

I feel similar about this also. Hopefully someone can post a very detailed thread on how exactly to develop for this tablet. I am a beginner computer science major and want to try developing during the break, but can't afford to brick this thing since this is my school/work tablet. If anyone could post a thread like that, I could try to put some work into it.

I have the original EEE Pad (TF101) which has great developer support, the KatKiss ROMs is amazing. I can't believe hos smooth and fast KatKiss 4.4.4 is running on that old hardware! The stock ROMs on TF101 was really slow and buggy, and ASUS left it with 4.0.3 when it was just over a year old. The TF101 would be worth nothing today (soon 3 years old) if it wasn't for the great developer community support. With the KatKiss 4.4.4 the TF101 is even better then my TF701 in some aspects. And last month the TF101 even got KatKiss 5.0 which is already on it's 12th release and Android 5.0.1!
If there is no offical Lollipop udate from ASUS, I guess the developer support for TF701 will be even smaller.
I don't think the developer support will grow for this tab anyways.
At least if we can get 5.0 on it I will be satisfied. Shame that such a good tab did not get the attention it deserved. Lack of marketing by Asus and the keyboard hinge problem may have kept it down. Would love to get my hands on a keyboard dock for it but it's still expensive!
Bump!! Any update on this one?
I will probably just go with a Nexus tablet next time since there has been no mention from Asus on continued development. Tried to submit a case to Asus about the battery drain (fixed by removing the nvidia drm plugins). And asked about plans for lollipop update. Received error code so not sure uf they received it yet.
Maybe if severalpeople this we will get some answer.

Anyone want to try it? Please post results if you do
I'll pass.
Wouldn't trust anybody who recommends to use ROM manager on a Transformer tablet....
In addition he says he wrote the tutorial on XDA.
Where?
I don't see a L rom for the TF701 anywhere in the device forum.
If he posted it somewhere else - why not here?
If there is no tutorial - why is he lying?
Yeah, that website spells sketchy all over it to me. Haha. I'm going to pass on Trying to install it unless I see an xda-developers thread on it. Pershoot (cm developer) said in his thread that he is close to done on creating the cm lollipop version but had some unrelated things going on that is taking up a lot of his time lately. He said he was close to finishing it, and will probably upload it soon

Yes. Ever heard of a rom coming in several parts??
Wonder what you would be downloading there. @johnciaccio I would take that link down if I were you....
Also notice the mobile data icon in the status bar of these "screenshots".
It's a big fat lie. We'll get it, but not yet.
Just briefly glanced at it before. Looks like the page was actually written by someone and not a bot. Surprised anyone would go to that extent to to get some clicks.
I have a feeling we won't see a LL release at all on this tab. But maybe we will get lucky and Asus will push a update in 6 months.
There appears to be a lot of l roms coming out for other devixes, surely we must be close to a usable daily driver for this device?
