which is the best baseband for thrill 4g with respect to battery life !!
i know answers would be different but i would still like to hear ya'll out !
thanks...
You know what I think the only thing that baseband effects is the reception and data I think all the gingerbread bbs are the same on battery I'm on v20c with rogers not ghost calls not missed messages and I think the rom and kernal have the most to do with battery life I'm on acidhasard kitchen rom and I can get close to 48 hours on a battery with texting and light internet use.

Yea its true that bb only affects the reception but if your not getting good reception that means your phone is constantly searching for signal which translates to worse battery life. So I would advise you to check what frequency att is using in your area and use the bb that best works on that

Ya I didn't think of it that way good point so the v20p or v20c for att cuz I think they use the same fequances
O I just noticed your in mumbai so you'll have to find out what frequency your carrir uses and find the kdz that matches that the closest

yeap !
the main reason i asked about the baseband is because i use an at&t unlocked thrill in mumbai (india) !
there is no network issue over here !
no ghost calls or messages !
even voicemail works superfine !
i flashed the v21d last night. the device has been on since past 15 hrs and i have lost only 40% with moderate usage !
what are your battery readings ?
thanks...
well i ushally get 12 to 48 hours of use depends how much im on it

I am using the new Sprint radio 2.42.01.04.27 along with Damagecontrol v2.08 ROM and having issues with my battery life especially where I work! I have very poor signal at work and the battery seems to drain faster than it used to with the earlier version of the radio. But where I live I have full signal and the battery seems to hold well!!!
I just want to make sure it is not something I am assuming or if there is something I can do to keep the same radio and improve the batter life???
Anyone else on here experience similar issues please feel free to share.
Thank you!
Edit: I just realized I should have posted in Q&A section, is there a way I can change it?
probably because where you work the signal is low( like you said) and the radio looks for the HOME network, and because it keeps going and going, and switching from ROaming to HOME , this will eat your battery fast.
I have the same problem
I have this problem too. It annoys the crap out of me
I have this same problem. -99 and lower dbm at work. What I do is put it in airplane mode unless I need to make a call. If that's not a viable option, I would suggest getting an extra charger. But I even had this problem when my phone was still stock, so it's not ROM specific.
You could also try differents radio from this page. http://geekfor.me/category/radio/
This has always been an issue for me for just about all of the phones I have owned for the past decade. Low/weak signal causes your phone to constantly try to get a better signal, which in turns eats your battery. Don't think this has anything to do with the radio version whatsoever.

I believe if a Radio increases your signal...that means you get better signal in places where before you could not, which means less roaming right?
just my 2cents
So far none of the 2.1 radios are that great on my hero. I have since gone back to the 1.5 stock radio and all seems really good.

I have the same issue at my house I would recomend that you turn off the mobile network while your at work unless you need it. I keep a toggle on my primary screen for easy on and off. It helps my battery last when I have no need for the mobile data I just turn it off but it still allows you to make and receive calls and will help improve your battery life. Hope that helps you out.
Forgive me for my noobiness. I searched on wikipedia and other places and isn't a lower -dBm better than a higher -dBM?
So -62dBM is better than -100dBm or am I wrong here?
Thanks for not flaming!

Lower is better. I stole this from a non android phone related blog but I'm sure it applies to all phones:
Full Signal:-70 or lower
Optimal Signal:-70 to -75
Fair Signal:-75 to -85
Poor Signal: -85 or higher
The values may not directly reflect the quality referenced but it clearly shows that you want a lower -dbm.

That's correct numbers closer to 0 are better therefore -62 is better than -100
Also for future reference. Every radio will give every person in a different location different signal strength. Duh I know they are obviously on different towers. What I mean is, if i switch radios, one will give me a better strength compared to another. For some the original 1.5 radio worked best, for others (like myself) a 2.1 radio worked better. Its really a trial and error thing. But be careful, flashing radios is the one thing that will brick your phone if not done right.
One question the OP could of asked is.. What radio does someone in "his location" use and get a better signal with?
Dang... I currently have -48dBm... but still not at full bars... At work though, at home I think I get -90dBm and about a bar or none at all...
A "Roam Only" option might help here. Is there such an app for Android 2.1 yet? There was one for Blackberrys and it works a charm in weak signal areas.
(When used, your phone will roam on the Verizon network only. The data is slower when roaming, but the battery draining issue is solved.)

I know, right?
I don't upload and don't download much either; I'd leave it on Edge if I didn't want to be able to talk and use data, so this is just what I needed.
Awesome link!!!! Thanks! Much better battery life now!

Wow this is great! My DL and UL speeds with 3G are almost the exact same or close to the speeds of HSPA, with less battery drain!! Awesome. 3G is just strong in my area, waaaaaay better signal. Thanks again.
Looking at how my phone changes from "H" to "3G", it seems to do it intelligently. When nothing that requires data is done on the phone, such as scrolling through homescreens or being in your app drawer, 3G is used. When data is needed, such as loading web pages or downloading "H" is used. With this auto switching, it seems like the phone does try to optimize battery life between HSPA and 3G so I don't think this fix is really that necessary.
The only thing I noticed is that is when using gTalk, it switches between HSPA and 3G depending on if a message is being sent or if the phone is stationary. If I send a message, "H" comes on and when I don't, it's "3G". If changing between HSPA and 3G does drain battery, then this could be a source of battery drain if you send small messages quickly (how one would chat) back and forth.
Can anyone chime if it consumes battery when it changes between 3G and H?
It doesn't consume more when switching, but HSPA consumes a lot more than 3G. I was previously running HSPA all the time and now just 3G. I did this trick yesterday and I am seeing very good results already.
Bumping this bcuz this is really a battery saver!!!!

Hi guys... ill be receiving my optimus 2x next week... id been reading about all the fixes for it and all that stuff... im planning on installing cm7... but id been reading about problems with sound quality and all that stuff, can anyone point me what baseband (or any other fixes) should i install on the cellphone to get everything working propertly? thanks in advance!
I have had mine for a while now..... 2 months or so? I insdtalled CM7 on it the first night I had it and I have never looked back.... I update every few days although to be honest usually I cant tell the difference between the roms.
Lovely phone, running cm7 - baseband/rij 725, launcher pro and htc sence theme... think its called ntsence.
Plenty other mods as well but these are the main ones
Never had a problem with call quality, there is screen bleeding but tbh unless you really look at a black screen you dont notice it
Bert
ohhh i see, i have to learn about the lg baseband thing hahahah... when i receive my cellphone ill have to check that, cause it seems that cm7 its running fine... but i keep reading about updating and replacing baseband!
to be honest I was running baseband 200 ( or 225 or something ) until a couple days ago.... never had a problem with it and only updated because we get a crap signal in the house ( on all 4 different mobiles.... 2x orange, t-mobile, o2 so I thought I'd try it.... cant say I notice a difference tho lol
Ohhh i see thanks man... ill check all that... what about your battery life?
My battery lasts about a day with wifi on, 3g on, fair usage of both, not many calls tbh but a few txts a day, 3 hours audiobook use per day, screen at full brightness.
As said in another post... if you think the 2x is bad try my wifes iphone :/
it seems pretty good battery life im used with my previous android to carry another battery on my pocket... maybe ill keep doing it... but it seems that this lg got better battery life, thanks man!
I don't mine I get half a day with having everything on and not using and by then I'm at 60% but I use and app for it now and I go home with 90% lol

First of all go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082195
That will give you a clue on what baseband to choose (personally I use 725bb and 725 ril)
Then go here http://android.modaco.com/topic/335494-12-aug-smartflash-stock-baseband-release-103521-20110725/
That tells you what you need to do to change basebands. If you're planning on using CM7 (It comes with the 218 ril as standard, it doesn't change your baseband though) but you will need this program from the market 'LG Getril' it tells you what baseband you have and suggests a matching ril, it also lets you download and instal the ril too.
cm7 is running fine with stock baseband and ril for me
There is an app which automatically detects and recommends the best RIL for your Optimus 2X. It's called LG GetRIL.
Because I'm a new user, I can't post direct link
In terms of battery life, a good matching RIL to your phone can help increase your battery life.
Hope this helps!
thanks will check that too
Try android booster it works wonders I would go to work with full battery and be left with maybe 40% if I was lucky but with that app I go home with 89% so saves me about 50% battery every day

I don't think there is any wifi calling (like the stock ROM) in any JellyBean ROM. I think it was available in CM9, but, in general, it didn't work for me and it wasn't worth keeping. I liked wifi calling for my overseas travel, but I have learned to live without it.
I would like to be wrong about this, because I would also like to have wifi calling. Skype isn't a good general purpose solution.
Good luck.

I have Skype and google voice. Both are fine with wifi and with data plan but that does not fix the radio searching for towers draining the battery overnight (as indicated by the battery use applet.)
On the stock rom, with wifi calling, the battery lasted three or four days, I'd like to get back to that level while using jellybean.

That's what I was afraid of, maybe one day T-Mobile will have a build with it we can take it from...who knows.
As of now WiFi calling is only available for JB on the HTC One and the S3 it is now part of the rom and can't be ported over.

hello never ever did i own a phone that i can see how fast the battery runs out during use like this note 5
i am so unhappy and i am experiencing serious issues as it affects my daily life which relies on the phone to be running
my model is sm-n920k which is from Korea and has a logo on the back that says olleh
i live in Israel i seriously doubt that this model does not work well in Israel , i am using cellcom Israel provider
is there anything i can do , as i hope i did not buy myself a non usable phone form the Korean visitor who left the Israel
i can see the battery go down from 98% to 68% in less than an hour of use where i browse or check emails or watch youtube.
I do not do anything different than what i used to do on my iphone 6 which had a great battery life and i never had this fear of running out of battery
the baseband is aoj5
i tried flashing custom rom from dr ketan and still the same, the batter during use is emptying so fast

Also important, what apps you have installed and what stuff syncs on your phone. There's just a lot of factor that may contribute to bad battery.
I don't know if I've seen anyone else with a Korean version here.

I am not sure tbh. I did notice that they only list the PDA and CSC. Keep an eye on news from samsung to see if they push an update and check the sammobile for new firmwares. Once you see a new one appear just flash it. It would probably have an updated baseband.
