Best way to block unknown callers - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
on Samsung Gingerbread ROMs there is a built-in feature to automatically block unknown callers. I am missing this functionality in the ICS ROMs. I know that there are apps for this, but they consume RAM or have ads.
Is there a system-level way in SGS ICS ROMs to block unknown or private callers? e.g. some mod for the dialer app? If not, which is the best/lightest free app to gain this feature?
Thanks a lot!

Hi,
I have tested a lot of SMS and Call blocking apps and, IMHO, the best one is aFirewall. If you just want to block unknown callers, it is perhaps a bit too much, but there are lot of usefull options and rules that are worth giving a try.
Hope that helps,
Pierre.

thanks, I'll try that out!

Indeed a great app

Thanks for your message, I'm actually one of the guys behind Voxtrot. You may have forgotten to say that we do provide free calling, but only if both persons are registered on the network.
Voxtrot was successfully tested on the Nexus S sporting Gingerbread, but never on a customized HD2, hence possibly the force quit issue.
Anyway I'm happily gathering feedback so if you have some, don't hesitate.
@romzzz
Thanks for your valuable Information and i also in same issue "Force Close"
anyway i hope someone will find a solution.
How it works? In europe too?

No it doesnt. Your ignorance is damaging our reputation.
Does it work like the stock android call blocker ??
I mean beep sound should be played instead of the "Person you are trying to reach is busy ".
Great app!

Great app, already paid for the donate version. I also paid for another call blocker in the past (around €5) but it turned out to be crap. Great work, some more features would be cool but blocking couldn't be better.
Having used modified Sony Ericsson W595 and K800 to have the "black list" patch, I was wondering if there was something similar for Android.
I installed the beta version onto my Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro, and glad to report it does work from testing from my other phone. The Mini Pro is using an O2 SIM with the voicemail disabled. The phone used to test was a Sony Ericsson K800 that has an Orange SIM in it, and these are my findings:
Call block:
Reject: rings once then disconnects (drop call)
Alternative reject: appears to answer (phone used to call seemed to have "connected" - however the other person would probably get the hint and put the phone down after a while)
SMS block:
Currently I have only tested the "block and save" - which still allows you to view the text that was sent. However, be advised that delivery reports were still allowed to be sent to the phone that sent the SMS.
As I said: I have not tried the other settings.
There is no sign of any missed calls or SMS received in the call log/inbox (which I think is a good thing).
Overall I am impressed with this app. Nice work
There's a bug with alternate reject in the current build. We will be fixing it shortly.
For now, a ittle update with new help files...
Save for the option to hide itself, how does this differ from Easy Filter?
Not trying to be a pain, Im just wondering...
Try the beta and find out... all i can say is that is much more powerful. Faster blocking, more options, less system footprint, native code... the list is bigzorz.
i really like this app, it works nicely on my Nexus S and my Desire HD as well
bought your screenshot er before and this now! thanks!

I've been looking for an app to block restricted and unknown callers only. Before I download and test this out does this app have the option to do this?
Of course! Create a list or open one of the predefined ones, click the + button, pick "add numbers", scroll to the SPECIAL tab and find the relevant number groups.

Lookout everybody, avoid this app."ftgg99" and "fafrehugen" are accounts from same idiot, asking for testers and selling security holed apps after. As you can also see here he uses one of accounts to reply and thanks the other. This guy is a liar and MUST be banned from Xda.

[DEV] Looking for devs to build our free apps into their ROMs

We make a couple of very useful applications for rooted users, some of you may know and use them. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in adding one or two of the free versions to their ROM builds. Its seems like a win-win situation.
I use 2 Inc Ss myself and all these apps are well tested and working flawlessly, so there should be no issues.
The ones i think would fit well are Call Master:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291587
Its an advanced call and SMS manager (blocking, routing, private inbox, lots of other stuff). The free version has no ads and full functionality. The only restrictions are nag screens.
Screenshot ER:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17212860
I know this may seem superfluous, but this is a proper screenshot tool with lots and lots of features. Again, theres no ads in the free version, full functionality is only restricted by a short delay.
Maybe Prepay Widget:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006487
A USSD balance manager with higly configurable text wisgets. Its completely free, no ads.
And finally Power Switch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153788
This is something of a chimera app that does cool things like turn off the screen when you shut the case of your device. Free, no ads, only restricted by delays.
Please let me know if youre interested!
Any takers? We do make some of the coolest apps on android...
as for the power switch, does it shut the screen down upon placing the phone in your pocket? i'd like to give it a go =)
Screen off doesnt work for me on ice cold sandwich nutella

Try a different sensitivity. It works fine for me.

call block by prefix?

Hopefully this is the correct forum to ask this in...
I'm going crazy with spam callers/robocallers lately, and i would like to block their numbers by area code..
I've googled/youtubed solutions for this and searched here, google/youtube shows me S3's and S5's call settings, which seem to have had a feature to block a number that "starts with" a specific area code in their call settings.. that option does not seem to be on the S8/S8+ ; can anyone tell me if it is just an older feature that's now removed from these newer phones, or if i am missing it somewhere? I've tried a couple of apps as well that are supposed to block numbers by area code and they don't seem to do anything.. just getting incredibly sick of these idiots calling me everyday at the same time and i'm filling up my reject list with their numbers when it seems it should be so much easier to block an area code..
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
I use the app Call Blocker to block every number that is not in my contacts. I don't know if it will block by area code, but there may some app that would do that. I would check the playstore.
