Hey guys,
I haven't been able to find very much on this, so if you guys can help, that'd be great.
This morning, I woke up, and my phone said "low on space". I tried everything from a reboot to taking the battery out, etc. Then I went into Menu>Setting>SD and Phone storage, and something caught my eye. The "Available Phone Storage" area was losing memory as I was looking at it! It decreased from 500kb, and settled down somewhere around 28kb. And two days ago i had 30MB!!! How did this happen?

The only thing I can think of being a culprit would be an app that needs to be downloading tons of data. I know the XDA app downloads data when you view new forums... do you use that a lot?

Ok, try this. Do a fresh install of whatever ROM you're using, and don't install any extra apps. See if you start to lose space like you are right now. Then, install the apps one by one, and you'll see which app is taking up your free space.
Have you tried a wiping and restoring your ROM? That may be your only option. Strange issue to have

+1...beat me to it
my wifes was doing this, i noticed the "contact storage" was almost 80mb! She has over 300 friends on FB and its set to refresh that every 2 hours. Try clicking on menu-settings-then accounts &sync... they are set at default to every2 hours. it would freeze her phone and couldn't receive texts or calls until its don't refreshing sometimes too more than an hour. not sure if this is a complete fix or not just tried it earlier today.
Its the HTC Mail app possibly. There are temp files building up. Only way to clear them is to be rooted and delete them with a file manager.

I tried widget locker and liked the way it looked, but you have to manually start the app every time you turn the phone on. I don't really care about all of the slide mods, but I would like to change the clock, font, etc. Is there a setting in Cyanogen that I'm missing? Any other app suggestions?
Has anyone ever tried this method for changing the clock font?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/e1q7j/i_got_rid_of_that_stupid_lockscreen_clock_font/
Basically requires using Terminal to paste a new font over the existing font. I've never used Terminal and I don't have any experience in Linux. The program that someone mentions there (Type Fresh) has lots of bad comments on Appbrain about causing crashes and bootloops, so I think I'll stay away from that one.
are you looking to modify your system lockscreen or trying to find a replacement app (widgetlocker)?
for your widget locker problem, select start at boot and disable the 5 sec. rule.

If you don't want to use terminal, I'm pretty sure you can use ninjamorph which might be a little easier. As for widgetlocker, I'd say just do what kevina said. I've been using for the past week or so and it's been smooth and quick for me.
You could use tasker to autostart widget locker.

Ninjamorph doesn't work for this, nor did root explorer. I tried type fresh multiple times and it didn't work. After trying everything except using the terminal, I just changed the fonts in the rom's zip and reflashed it.
Thanks for the tips guys.. I reinstalled Widget Locker and I'm playing around with it again. I don't like how it takes over the Home button, but other than that it seems to be working pretty well.
Newest cm6.1 rc2 nightly has gestures and added support for phone and sms sliders on the lock screen. I can quickly access facebook, camera, sms, and phone without first unlocking the phone - I love it!
Which nightly are you on and does it seem pretty stable? I do have that same functionality you are talking about with Widget Locker... but if I can have it through the OS, I'll just use that.
I just got Widget Locker the other day. I love it!

Also make sure widgetlocker is installed on your phone and not the sd.

Hey,
I just rooted my Nook and the first thing after setting everything up was downloading Angry Birds. But the Apps neither shows up at the Superuser List, nor in the normal "Extras" List. The only way to start it is over the marketplace. Anyone knows how to fix this?
I think I had to reboot before it showed up. That would be my advice.

Okay, gonna try this. Thank you! Unfortunately my battery is empty, so I have to wait now^^
This happened to me when I was using the stock home screen. It should show up after rebooting. The problem is easily solved by changing your launcher. I have been pretty happy with Zeam. You may want to search the forum for more on this.
Just rebooted and now all Apps are displayed. Awesome. I am so happy that I rooted the NOOK
Doomed Froyo Slim V2.1

Updating SuperUser is OK now, go ahead and update
Removed almost all widgets
Same Framework as Doomed Froyo so ALL themes/flashable zips made for Doomed Froyo will work with Slim version.
Same Tweaks from Doomed Froyo
OC Kernel 1188MHz/1.18GHz Doom Kernel made by me

Widgets kept:
Power control widget

Application Specific Widgets
Analog Clock (Black with green hands from DeskClock)
Calendar
Market
Music
Youtube
*************************************************************
Removed apps:
Google maps
Google talk
Google street view
Voice search
Finance
Richnote
Live wallpapers
News
Soundrecorder
Swype
Facebook
Plenty More (horrible note taker will update with all removed apps)
Replaced Apps:
LGHome with Launcher from source code
Calculator with Calculator from source code
Alarm/Clock with DeskClock from source code
*************************************************************
Added Apps:
DeskClock from source code (shows up as "clock" in app drawer. a sort of lockscreen, put icon on the homescreen, press it, DeskClock comes up and you can turn off screen with power button and when come back DeskClock is your lockscreen. It is actualy supposed to be a "DESK CLOCK" for when you are at a... uh desk and want easy access to music and a clock. Gallery Slideshow option does not work with newest gallery, it does work with one from source but, you can not view 3D pictures with source Gallery. Trying to fix)
Spare Parts (allows you to control speed of windows/font resizing does not stick. Better battery statistics/history)
Email original from source code
*************************************************************
3D Button does NOTHING now just makes a nice little vibrate. It can still be used to switch between 2D/3D in games/videos/pictures.
Increase speed of phone by going into spare parts and set Window transitions/Transition animations to FAST
Launcher includes a bunch of wallpapers including a few from Nexus
I suggest using Titanium Backup to make a full backup of all system apps/data BEFORE you install this rom. If there is something missing you want back or want to replace one of the switched out apks, you can use Titanium to do it
*************************************************************
On fresh install settings will FC on first boot. Just ignore it, it happens because of some of the things I took out. Will be trying to fix this. Settings will work just fine and FC only happens on first boot.
Install:
1) Download the zip from link below.
2)Put the zip on your external SD card.
3) Boot into CWM with Vol Down+3D Camera+Power.
4) BACK UP YOUR CURRENT ROM!!!!!!
5) Perform Factory Wipe
6) Install zip from SD
7) Reboot and enjoy!

How is the GPS on this rom?
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
For me it works great, can't complain... location based finds me within 20-30 meters and GPS locks on pretty quick to be on safe side I would say within a minute. You will have to install maps from a backup or from market it has been removed.
Is thereany known issues with this rom or does everything work?
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
None that I can think of right now. It is stable and definitely ready for everyday use. You shouldn't have any problems. If you do post them here.
Sweet! Will be downloading and flashing as soon as I can get to work tomorrow and download it! Keep up the good work!
Would you say that this rom is faster then thriller? I'm looking for speed and smoothness, thriller is...alright at best but I've been getting a lot of freezes and restarts:-\

I would like to think it is faster than Thriller... It probably is because it is quite slimmed down there has been a lot taken off of it. The rom is actually based off of Thriller 1.0.3, I haven't had any restarts or problems and I haven't had anyone reporting any problems so I do believe it is pretty stable.
The best thing to do is to download it, go into CWM make a nandroid backup with the "backup and restore" option, then flash this rom and see how you like it. If you don't like, or you have problems just go back into CWM and restore your old setup. It will bring back all your data, sms, contacts, apps everything all of it.
I fixed a problem with the search capactive button and the search on home screen menu not working correctly.
You can either download and flash new rom, no need to do a data wipe.
You can also restore "Google Search" in your backup app (Titanium Backup) it must be a system app for the button to work. I thought it would work as long as it was installed but this isn't the case, it has to be installed with the system or into system/apps
Great work is there a way you can upload a zip w/ the stuff that's removed so we can pick and choose which apks and widgets to install if its not too much trouble.
Edit: mainly the application manager app i miss it already :'(

BATTERY UPDATE: Been running this for a bit and I was absolutely shocked when I woke up.
The shot in OP with the widgets and icons is my homescreen. Turned wifi off and had music player open and paused, data network off as well. When I went to sleep, battery was at 30%, when I wake up... still at 30%. Here is a shot, notice android system is only 29% even right now it has only gone up to 30% usage as I type this. Starting to make me wonder if it isnt showing right.... which I am sure it is... just cant believe that after 8 hours it hasnt budged. Also, when I unplugged the phone, it wasnt even charged to 100%. Will give an update on what time it finally dies on me.
Do you have any Gameloft games? If so, was there any issue getting them to run okay on this ROM?

Well unfortunately I had to charge the phone a bit because I left the house and needed my phone... will see what happens today... I didn't do anything special it was just slim and wifi off. I use no task killers or anything like that. Will report again on battery stats and will have the zip up with the deleted apks later as well.
PROTIP: For those that don't know. Go to settings, wireless n networks, wifi settings, press menu capactive button, choose advances, set wifi sleep policy to off when screen is off... save battery

but then you loose the convinience of having screen off and playing music for example, or downloading something, it just looses that ability
So I upgraded my phones but my son still loves to play with my old G1. I was wondering if anyone knew how much of the base os I could remove.
For instance I just want it to play movies, music, connect to wifi, and play games. I don't want it to have ANY calling capability or have it bug me about no SIM card.
Found a list in Cyanogenmod's wiki as to what is safe to remove. I added a few more on to that list and will be adding a couple of apps to the initial install. Will update as I go. Link below.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones
So I booted up my phone and uninstalled the phone.apk and some others...a few errors pop up every now and then... But I'm betting that someone who knows coding can fix the acore errors. I'm going to continue working on this. Wish me luck.

Funny, I was coming here to look for the same thing. I'm administering some Linux boxes, and I was thinking how much easier if it would be if I just had a small handheld device with a physical keyboard that I could run ssh through, then I remembered my G1 in the drawer.
Someone (me, if I ever learn how to do it) should make a Rebirth/Recycle ROM for this phone that strips out the phone capability and just supports it as a streamlined pocket-sized utility and gaming device. Maybe some other linux would be better than Android for that.
- Terminal
- Web browser
- Game emulators (better with a physical keyboard)
- Media player
- Media Center Remote
Anyway, just throwing it out there for brainstorming.
I found this over at cyanogenmod. I'm gonna start here and modify to my needs. I'll post here when I get it setup

Remove Sim card, put in airplane mode, voila no Sim card errors.
You can turn on GPS and wifi while airplane mode is on.
And you could probably rip out the phone and text messing apps with titanium backup.

I have tried this and my son still managed in his playing to take it out of airplane mode. So I want to just avoid the problem entirely. Plus I want to try and keep my G1 useable. It holds a certain sentimentality.

From my experience if you remove the phone.apk acore starts to force close constantly and then it doesn't boot at all
But really, theres not too much to worry about.
99% of G1s can be restored by flashing DREAIMG.nbh from fastboot
And by the way you should try a custom ROM or two
Or with LauncherPro you can hide apps from the home drawer
But I think LauincherPro needs a newer version of Android
(Try froyobylaszlo, or frayo..which is froyobylaszlo but you can choose what system apps to install)

Yep, I loaded ES Task Manager (or Killer, can't remember), and looked up running processes that were on that list in your link to see if I could strip them out and save some memory. Managed to take out the Messager service without any issues. Seems to be working pretty good.
