Uninstall safestrap? - Motorola Droid 4

I have a d4 I installed safestrap created a partition and backed up my stock operating syatem, but I have yet to find a release of a rom which I would like to install. How can I un_ partition and uninstall safestrap and delete my backup file? (My droid has been noticably laggy since the instalation)

Simple,
Run Safestrap, let it remove the program, then uninstall Safestrap and after that delete the Safestrap directories in sdcard and sdcard-ext. Voilá you're done!

What if I have a custom rom installed and I want to remove it and all of its data, plus uninstall safestrap. Is it still done by just uninstalling the recovery from the app? Or is there something that needs to be done recovery mode?

If you took a backup of the safe system before you flashed your custom rom, restore that, and then uninstall safestrap recovery, and then the apk. If you didn't take a backup, the only way I found was to use the fastboot files that are available in the dev section and follow the instructions very carefully on how to use rsd lite.

I took a backup of the safe system before there was anything on there. Will that work? Technically there was no rom for that backup.
Sent from my DROID4

As far as I know, yeas that will work. I didn't take a backup therefore I was restricted to using the fastboot files and rsdlite.

I'm a newbie with roms. Need help

I have a rom but I wish to change it. Will changing my room make all my apps and contacts dissaper?

Your contacts are backed up by Google and as far as your apps, I advise you to back them up with either titanium backup or mybackup pro...

He's right another thing that's helpful IMO is once u back up all of ur apps using titanium back up it creates a folder on ur sd I went in there and copied all of my apps created a folder on my sd and pasted them there for extra precaution and made a second copy of the folder on my pc for an extra back up that way no matter what I have all of my apps
Note I turn off file compression on titanium back up if I didn't I couldn't install them without titanium wen I backed up with out any compression I can install any of my apps with any file manger well hope this helps good luck

use rom manager, and just backup your rom. Itll save EVERYTHING. If you want to revert, install ROM manager on your current rom, click restore from backup, and there you go! Simple as that.

Actually, when you do a wipe, as soon as you're back into your phone just go straight to the market and go to your downloads, it always seems to save them there. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you're changing to a ROM with a different version of android (I.e. going from Fresh to Cyanogenmod).

Could also do a nandroid...

Application already installed

I tried to install google music, but once it tried to install it says app already installed. But its not. I had it installed to the system/app directory, but upgraded from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5. All my apps stayed, but the ones I pushed to system/app was deleted. Could this be why I cant install it now?

If it gives you an option to uninstall do it.

But it doesn't. From market it just says install

Check if it shows up in TiBu (titanium backup app) and if it does wipe its data and then uninstall it. Also wipe cache and dalvik in cwm and c if it helps.

[Q] Nandroid Help

Can someone point me to a thread explaining how to restore a nandroid I made in 902? I used ROM Manager's 5.0.2.5. I broke my screen and now have a new Bionic. I rooted it and updated to 902 and restored all my apps including ROM Manager and Bionic Bootstrap. I had ROM Manager install CWR 5.0.2.5 although I'm not sure if it worked, when I choose to boot into recovery, nothing happens. When I try Bionic Bootstrapper I get the OK to Bootstrap Recovery but when I chose Reboot Recovery it grants SU permission but nothing happens.
Should I not have both installed? Can someone suggest how to install a working recovery so I can make a B/U and it would be great if I could restore the 902 Nandroid I made previously.
I have searched the forums but most is pre-902 and none of it seems to work for me. Any advice would be appreciated.
THX
Try flashing another kernel. Also ensure the backup is on the sdcard in cwm folder.

To get CWM to work you need to flash bootstrapper first. Then open ROM manager and flash CWM. Now you have official CWM installed as recovery.
As to not finding your backups...do you rename them? You can't rename the backups without changing the md5sum file in the backup or when CWM looks for the backup it won't see it since md5sum doesn't match what it is looking for. I guess if you rename it you need to find the md5sum of that newly renamed file and put that sum in the md5sum file in the backup. Now CWM will see it.

Thanks Marshy, I actually got the Bionic Bootstrap to work and made a nandroid with that, I think renaming may be why my old ones seemed to disappear, however my Titanium Backups also seem gone, only my "Mybackup" files seem to still be on the card.
Should I be using ROM Manager instead and if so, should I delete bionic bootstrap or vice-versa?
Thanks so much for the noob help.
Joe
I definitely prefer just going into bootstrap recovery rather than using rom manager. I know for a fact you can rename nandroid backups and they will restore without doing anything with the md5 checksum. However, you cannot put a space in the name. That will cause an error. I always rename my nandroids and have never had one fail to restore using letters, numbers, and dashes (no spaces).
Also, your backups should be on the sdcard-ext in the /clockworkmod/backup folder.

Refuses to Update/Upgrade

Phone currently running android 2.3.4, system version 5.9.902.xt875.verizon, rooted, cwm based recovery.
I have 4.8g free on the internal, 1.6 on the SD, and the phone claims it's out of space, not enough space to download update to .905, won't update or install apps. I've removed a couple of apps trying to update them, no luck, and can't reinstall. tried wiping cache, dalvik, removing a bunch of stuff, cleaning app caches manually, and i'm out of ideas.
Help please!

Still inop, still need help.
You need ample room on the external sd for the update to apply. The .ZIP's are heavily compressed and during extraction inflate pretty large. Move your dcim folder or downloads folder elsewhere (such as a computer) and try it again. 1.6gb seems like a lot, but it really isn't.....

Ok, how about help getting back to stock recovery so i can just start over??
Im not sure if possibly the cwm recovery partition is causing a problem. If you download the moto-fastboot.exe file and flash the recovery.img file from a .902 fxz thus removing cwm? Fairly certain that the install verifies partitions including system and recovery. Any real experts want to chime in on this?

After rooting your phone Verizon blocks updates. I had same problem.

Can't update a rooted phone.
When I was on .902 and rooted I was able to ota update to.905 without issue. I might have had to use voodoo root keeper and temp unroot. I can't remember anymore. I'm using safestrap for recovery though. Shouldn't be too tough to unroot and then reroot if that's the real issue. Don't take it from me though I'm kind of a noob. I also read that you have to unfreeze your bloatware if you have anything frozen. Not sure if any of that helps.

When did Verizon start blocking rooted phones? Mine has has been forever rooted since .886, 893, 901, 902, & 905. Can't remember, but either 901 or 902 was leaked, but had installed the next OTA from that leak.
I had to defrost all of my bloatware, but never had an issue with the OTA updates on my rooted Bionic.

UPDATED CAMERA/gallery zip, How can I flash a zip file

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...gallery-app-with-new-ui-editing-photo-sphere/
camera from the nexus allows spherical photos ...
on my original D1 I used to use clockwork recovery to flash files, What are my options now? I don't have safestrap installed just a rooted OTA updated droid.
Boot into safestrap after you download file and just install to whichever rom slot you are using. It works by the way, I just flashed it and have been playing with it. Kinda cool
Edit: can't seem to get the spherical effect to align

no no, I DON'T have safestrap installed...how can I just manually flash a file?
To my knowledge, you need to have some sort of recovery installed to flash a .zip.
You could literally install SS3, run it and install recovery, boot into recovery, flash your .zip, reboot, remove recovery, uninstall safestrap.
Okay i installed it then booted into it but it won't let me install...do I have to mount my system or something?

Shouldn't have to mount anything. But hey, now that you got SS3 installed, you can install ROMs and not risk hosing your phone.
Maybe it's SS3 blocking installation of ZIPs to the primary system slot?
(anyone wanna chime in? i don't really mess with my stock system slot..)
I should ask, were you able to locate the .ZIP through the SS3 file browser? If not, look in the other SD folder.

I know the older versions of safestrap blocked flashing zips to the safe (stock) system. Makes sense that ss3 would work the same way. If you really like stock but want to be able to mod it you can always flash one of myfishbears stock roms to another ROM slot and mess with that.

flashed the 4.2 camera app. went to the front facing camera, it crashed the app. and since it remembers which camera you left off on, i'm now forced to reflash the zip. just a warning
Damn...I didn't really want to install a second ROM...my phone is virtually full as it is and i have a 32gb-ext sdcard....is there any other way? Ss3 won't even let me browse for the files on stock ROM....****ING LOCKED BOOTLOADERS!!! Could one of you guys backup the new gallery/camera/picture editor with titanium and post the apks? Would that work??
Sent from my DROID4 using xda app-developers app
Open the zip file and take the libs and apks push them to your phone with adb.
Push them whereon the phone..could you give me a example of the commands? Also couldn't I just do it all through terminal emulator instead of plugging into a laptop?

Google had androidpolice pull those download links. Can we get an upload for that camera?
Yes i can re upload but i need to know what directory on my phone to push the files or a way to flash without reCovery. Can you give me a list of commands please?

Here is a set of instructions posted by P3Droid for installing the 4.2 camera libs and apks.
http://pastebin.com/gcHJrFQc
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294523570 is a mirror I guess, it is saying that the file is 7. something mb where the one I originally downloaded is around 9mb... if you send me your email I can just email the original because 4shared apparently doesn't work anymore.
Also if I install this and my camera ****s up, what are my options to re install the original camera/gallery app? why can't I just install alongside?
edit if I were to just push the gallerygoogle.apk to apps instead of system apps wouldn't that be safer?

okay so I unzipped the file, found the .so files and the apk, then I put them on my sd card, mounted my /system/lib as RW , moved the .so files to there, then mounted /system/app as RW and copied the apk there, and restarted. opened up build-prop and changed the 2 lines saved. then looked for the new 'googlegallery' ...it wasn't there, so I went into /system/app/ and when I selected it it gave me the option to install..so I did...it went through the process and at the end said it wasn't installed....
