Error with safestrap - Motorola Droid 4

I haven't been here long enough to put this in the safestrap dev thread but I have a issue. When I try to make a backup it fails while trying back up .osh section. I've tried a few times and I'm not sure why this is happening.
Will this effect switching to safe mode?

[Q] Phone won't display home screen.

So I was looking through the topics in this part of the forum today, and I saw "[Q] What is causing "Communication Failed" error?" (It won't let me post the link to it?) I followed the link in that topic and did what that guy said would help, and after doing that I restarted my phone. It did all of the startup animations correctly, I can still access the recovery menu out of it, but when I get past the startup animations, I'm just greeted with a black screen. The buttons on the bottom of the phone are lit up, but the screen gives no response. I can't turn it off without taking out the battery, and that doesn't help. If possible I'd like to try to fix this without sending my phone in, or without deleting the user data. Any fixes for this?
I would try re-downloading the ROM you want to use and then re-install it. But maybe there's a better fix, that's just what I've done whenever I encounter something strange.

I can't exactly put anything onto my phone with this problem. I can't access the screen at all past the startup animations. It's just black.
Not Bricked!
You have a few options as it seems your phone is "on" and should be recognized by your computer still.
What was it you were doing to the phone before it started doing this behavior.. wasn't quite clear on that....
If it was a mod to change your framework-res.apk. You can find the "stock" one in the ROM you originally downloaded and revert back to stock by doing an ADB Push to your /system/media folder.
Or... you will need to flash your phone back to stock - which means you will need to go here and download Odin and run it.
Always helps to have that "plan b". Bottom line though - your phone isn't bricked and you should be able to restore it and continue on. But... please note that ODIN will wipe your phone and anything you had on it will go bye bye.

I followed the advice on how to fix that problem in the second post in that topic. When I restarted my phone the screen just ended up going black. I'm going to try that Odin thing, I hope it works.
e. It's kinda annoying how I can't post links.
Ok Edit again, I've tried the Odin thing, and it just isn't working. Now whenever I try to put my Simcard back in, It doesn't even do the startup things, it just goes to that Phone Caution symbol PC picture thing. I'm worried that I'd have to go get a replacement.
Can you please provide us with a list of everything you have done to your phone and how you tried to use Odin? That will help us help you. Please be specific, this will get you the help you need. I read the link, did you use ADB or the first method in that thread? Sounds like you messed up while trying to fix your device manager. I am not sure how it is you tried to use Odin, try using a rear usb port, Odin can be a pain, make sure you have the drivers installed.
Ok, Here's a list of what I've done to my phone over the past few days.
1. I rooted it.
2. I kinda sorta half-assed the process of allowing me to put on Non-Market apps onto my phone, I made it so that the settings.db file had the permissions all set up, but I never replaced the first settings.db file. (It's just sitting on my phone's interal SD card.)
3. I tried to do that Non-ADB method listed in that topic I linked to. After that I started having these problems.
4. I accidently ended up clearing the Data cache through the recovery menu thing. Just an accidental moving of the buttons. It didn't seem to effect anything.
5. I booted the phone into recovery mode and tried the Odin thing. It got stuck at File Analysis, and I tried again. It still got stuck, and I let it continue trying it while I was eating dinner. After I got back it was still on that, so I took out the USB cord and phone battery and put the Sim card back in. When I try to boot it up it goes to that PC error phone thing. (I can't exactly get an image of it, I hope you know what I'm talking about.)
And that's all I've done to it. I'd try a different USB port, but I don't have any more. I'd try my other computer, but that's a Linux machine, and Odin is a Windows/DOS executable file. I'm pretty sure the drivers are installed correctly, as I had been doing stuff with the phone via USB just yesterday.
I hope that's enough detail to help figure out something.
I'd hate to doulbe post, but I really really do need the help with this. If any of you have any advice for it all, please, feel free to contribute. If there is no fix for this, and my phone is actually bricked, just let me know so I can go get a replacement.
Did you make sure you had odin started up BEFORE you put your phone in download mode? Odin is very touchy and you have to do things exactly right or it won't work.
Yes, I've made sure to follow all of the steps right to the last peroid. I'm probably just going to have to go get a replacement anyway.

Keeps rebooting to recovery...(solved)

Just like it says, did a full wipe and now it just boots to CW recovery. If I let it sit a moment, it'll reboot back to recovery....it will repeat this over and over. I am able to navigate and make selections if I catch it between reboots. I have tried restoring from a couple back ups and I even flashed streak droid...no go, just boots to CWR. HALP!

Edit
I shall be attempting the NV Flash
Sorry I didnt read far enough into the nvflash thread to see others were having the same problem and that the fix was to be found by simply following the instructions there.
I tend to panic,

[Q] CWM Wont Format /Data

I have no idea what happened to this Tab but it was brought to me with no way of getting into the boot loader, it just sits on the Samsung Screen. I was able to get it to the service screen and use Heimdall to upload CWM to it and then went to enter a format of the device and I'm getting all sorts of errors. I'm guessing the /data is corrupt *very* corrupt. I'm not sure how to do a full format. I think that with everything cleared I know enough to get it going again but no matter what I do I can't get the /data to format. I've tried fixing permissions and that takes 20 minutes and then says it's completed but yet I have no option of mounting /data in any way or clearing it. I'm so frustrated, I'm just looking everywhere for a way to nuke it back to where I can load even a stock ROM to get this thing to come back to life. Any ideas??!??!

What was the last known ROM did you install? which android? froyo (2.2), gingerbread 2.3.* or ics?
were you able to mount /data and /dbdata?
what error message did you get?
-- I take it you are not able to go to download mode (Power + Volume Down)?
What happen after you press Power + Volume Down?
If you can go to download mode:
Try this:

if not, try the above link - Retreive .rfs file in .tar and push it using heimdell.
same solution with more instructions:

hope it will help. If not let's try something else.
So, just for purpose of discussion (I tapped and ended up sending it in to Verizon with stock flashed back on it), it had ICS on it last. It was, jeeze, I can't remember what ROM but it was one of the ICS ROMS for the tab that are out. I used this tab like two days before with ICS running on it and had no issues when I used it but then two days later back in the owners hands it took a huge #*$&. I could mount /dbdata but not /data. It would fail a factory reset or a data wipe/format or a permissions reset every time.
I could get into the download mode for Heimdall to flash various other ROMS to it that would, according to Heimdall, successfully flash but then going in and doing a data wipe would fail to get the ROM to start up properly. I could do custom boot with CWM that is available for TAB but I couldn't get the stock boot loader to come up on stock ROMS. So odd, I appreciate the response because I wasn't sure if anyone would even be able to address such an odd thing.
Oh, on a side note, I could also not do a Dalvak wipe which I know nothing about but know it's important to wipe on occasion between ROMs - if that gives any insight into the real issue. The only thing I can surmise is that, somehow, that /data became corrupt and would not wipe. I thought of looking into ADB commands but whenever I would hook the Tab to my computer I could never get ADB to recognize it no matter what driver I used. Very frustrating to meet your match on tech.
**if it comes back and they wont help, I'll try this method you've posted though. In fact, I should be seeing it back shortly and I'll let you know what they've done.

No Please if you had ICS last, Do NOT flash the .rfs. ICS runs on ext4. But I hope VZW had it fixed for you.

Dead in the water - need help!

I just installed safestrap, and planned to install the darkdroid rom. it was all going according to plan, until it wasn't
Booted into safestrap. made my initial back up. wiped data/cache. Installed rom from zip. Bootloop. I can't get past the safestrap menu. screen just goes black. sometime it will start over again sometimes not.
I tried using safestrap to recover. same issue.
I was going to use RSDlite to try to recover, but it won't let me select AP fastboot. nothing happens when I hit the up volume-up key to select ap fastboot. RSDlite does not need to see my phone.
I just need to get my phone back. at this point i do not care what i have to flash, i just need it to work! Thoughts? any help? I need it
well.... not so dead in teh water i guess.... just disabled teh safe system, and booted back to original.
but still do not know what happene with the install of darkdroid. Any thoughts on what i may have done wrong? does it matter if i download the zip to my pc and then transfer to sdcard, or shoudl i dl it right to the phone?
heart attack averted, but still need help updating my POS
There shouldn't have been a problem, although i usually just download via my phone. try downloading something stable like liberty or mavrom or an earlier steel droid. If it still messes up then you know the problems on your end. Sounds like just a bad flash though try downloading it again from your phone with a good constant wifi connection and try again.
I tested a few roms that only worked with bootstrap and not safestrap. Try installing it in bootstrap

Everything reloops....

I was busy trying to install a mod which didn't go very well. Shouldn't be a big problem, just go back to the recovery and put back the backup.... But there things went wrong....
I reïnstalled the rom, but after that I ended up in a bootloop, but what's even worse is that the recovery also reboots the whole time. For a split second I see the recovery screen but then it reboots again.
So now I can't even get into the recovery. I can get into the bootloader and fastboot, so the solution to this problem but be there somewhere.....
The Factory reset options also doesn't work, because therefore it has to go into the recovery, which reboots... So until now I'm in a sort of never ending circel. Who can help me out of this?
edit:
Found the official RUU here on XDA, so I rebooted the phone into fastboot, and started the RUU update. It's installing now.... fingers crossed...
(doing this update, because maybe in the future it might be helpfull to others).
edit2:
Hmmm getting an error that the phone can't be updated...
edit3:
I had to shut down the phone and reboot, according to the problem solver of the RUU updater... Did that, but the phone rebooted again, after that it tried to enter the recovery again, but this time it actually did. So no recovery reboot. At this moment I'm trying to reinstall by previous made backup.
edit4:
REstoring the backup gave me 1 little error, so I also ran the rom installer again. The phone seems to reboot in a normal way now. Android is booting up again.
