OTA ICS Australia for Sensation XL has started - HTC Sensation XL

Last night -
ICS 4.0.3 OTA has started in Australia...
How long have we been waiting for this :-(
**REMEMBER - Backup all data stored on the phone.
ICS update install wipes all phone and internal storage.

I am kinda confused. The last reports are that not backup or anything is necessary. Just install reboot and you go with your old life......
But maybe you got different kind of update

I did the update install last night...
The phone actually does two updates...
Since the XL has a internal storage (rom/fake sd) the update install
totally wiped both partitions. All my saved data was removed..
Wasn't impressed with that :-(
Had to use easeus data recovery program to recover my data...
Here is the software info from the phone.

My wifes SXL received the update on 22nd May about 15 minutes after Vodafone announced it was available. And after the update, all personal data was still intact - only the ringtone got altered.

Hey louis.b
Are you running the stock rom and locked on..
Is it a voda supplied XL ?
My phone was from vodafone, but using a Telstra sim..
I know the OTA update is not pushed out to every XL...
It's pushed out in block segments.

yeah mine is from Vodafone. The best attempt I've made in tempering w my phone is unlock the BL (lol) so yeah pure stock.
Vodafone said that the update would be out for all all at once, not in segments.

Phone keeps rebooting

Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice please.
I bought my son a new carrier unlocked HTC Sensation XL. It came with Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). For the first week it worked perfectly. A message popped up saying there was an update and did he want to install it. He left it on all night with Wi-Fi enabled. Next morning it said update successfully completed and to restart the phone (which he did).
The first most obvious thing he noticed was the interface had changed. I checked the settings and found it had updated to ICS 4.0.3. This is when the problems started. The phone began to restart over and over.
In desperation we tried removing the battery and doing a factory reset. It made no difference. Once the phone was on for about 20 seconds it would restart and not stop until we turned off the phone or the battery went dead.
We even tried the hard reset as suggested by HTC support but no change.
Any suggestions as to how we might fix this?
Is there any way we can get the phone to reset back to 2.3.5 or do we have to send it back to where we bought it from?
cheers
You can download suitable gb and ics roo and flash first back to gb and then to ics:

Would require rooting the phone and installing recovery? The phone is still under warranty but as it was bought online I was hoping not to have to send it back. At the moment it is still stock and I'd prefer not to to do anything that will void warranty.

Sorry but I'm new at this. I know how to flash a ROM through CWM in recovery mode but no idea about how to do it is a completely stock phone.
Could you point me to how it is done please?

Well first of all you need to know what your cid is and download right ruu/stock rom.
Then just plug your phone in to computer when fully rebooted(usb-debug on) and run downloaded gingerbread exe.

Exactly, first back to GB and then again update to ICS. Maybe you could use one of these to make it a bit easier.

If you have debugging enabled just get adb for your computer, open command line, cd to the directory of adb the execute 'abd getvar cid' and get your cid, then go online and find the ruu that suits your cid and phone, the run it on windows and just follow the prompts!
And done!

First, try to re-install your recovery and if it's always bad,
Come back to RUU and try to re-install properly

I haven't found any RUU for your device.
If all of your Md5 sums aren't matched, I think that majority of your downloads are fake, and your data connection is really bad or something else.

[Q] My friend's HTC One will not boot

Hey guys, my friend flashed elementalx kernel onto his stock 4.1.2
he says that after he did that, his internal memory would not show and sd card could not be mounted in CWM.
after 3 reboots the problem still persisted.
after he did a factory wipe in CWM, he says his phone refuses to boot into anything other than bootloader.
i have not owned a htc one and i have no idea what to do.
what i understand is that he needs to get an ruu?
however i cannot find an RUU for CID HTC_039 Australian unbranded....
help would be much appreciated, thanks guys!
EDIT: would it be possible for him to use supercid when his phone is in the current state?

Which version of Elemental did your friend flash?
If it was v2 or higher - that only works with 4.2.2 so that would explain why it wasn't booting.
First thing I'd be doing is flashing a kernel I know is 4.1.2 compatible via fastboot seeing they can't get the SD card to mount and just see if it boots up and then go from there.
Here's a link to a stock 4.1.2 kernel > https://www.dropbox.com/s/tcryfrq6cpp00bd/boot.img
Good luck

uhh from the looks of it he flash a kernel that was not meant for his rom and didnt boot. he then proceeded to freak out and you said he factory wipe'd in CWM. Now correct me if i'm wrong but factory wipe basically obliterates the OS from the phone all together. so i can see why he'd be having problems. Also even if the factory wipe doesnt kill everything just resets everything back to normal, it would do anything for his kernel since theres nothing to revert back to. i would pump either a stock rom or a custom like viper or ARHD and it should boot just fine.

***MAKE SURE TO BACK UP PERSONAL FILES BEFORE DOING THIS***
Flash the recovery in my signature (the one that's TWRP 2.7.1.3), and then download a ROM of your choice in the Sprint HTC One Android Development section. Transfer the ROM zip file to your internal storage, boot up TWRP and wipe everything except internal storage. Finally, flash the ROM, and you should be good to go.

Best way to update rooted firmware?

I'm currently on rooted:
XQ-AT51_Customized UK_1321-7192_58.0.A.0.1040_R8A
Looking to update to:
XQ-AT51_Customized UK_1321-7192_58.0.A.3.31_R8A
What's the best way to do this?
Research seems to suggest delete all .TA files aswell as the userdata file and if that works, to flash an extracted/pactched boot.img that I've already prepped. Though some users mention that they then get a decryption error resulting in the need to fully wipe.
I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who has successfully updated their Xperia 1 ii (with Flashtool or newflasher?).
Many thanks
Bump - anyone successfully updated their rooted firmware yet?
I assumed by flashing to Customized UK we would still get updates pushed to the phone? I flashed my new device last week to 58.0.A.3.39 and assumed if I wanted to update it'd ask me through my settings. Do I have to manually do this now?

Hmm I thought that by being rooted/bootloader unlocked it's messed with the system updates. See attached, as Xperia Assist says there's an update available yet then clicking via Software Update it says I'm up to date.
I'm on 58.0.A.0.1040 customized UK and yet there's 58.0.A.3.39 available via Xperifirm
I updated my AT52 from 3.31 to 3.39 with newflasher. Worked fine. Haven't tried to remove the userdata file to not lose all my stuff though, gonna try that for the next update.
Basically I downloaded with xperifirm and just ran newflasher and went through the prompts, didn't remove any files because I wanted to flash all partitions. Then patched the boot.img from that firmware and flashed through fastboot.

Removing userdata_X-FLASH-CUST-2389.sin from the directory before running newsflasher should be equivalent to a dirty flash. But I've never tried it since this is my first Sony device since the Z1.

Yup, though a thought is to perhaps get a sd card and use that for most data. Least that way when internal storage gets wiped, the sd card would be untouched. Not been able to do that for a while!

Feels good to have an sd card to put all your backups on again doesn't it haha. I will not miss having to back up the internal storage slowly through USB2.0 just in case I have to wipe the entire storage.
I'm going to try a dirty flash on the next firmware update and hopefully I don't soft brick it again. Not having TWRP is new and scary to me.
Bump
With an updated firmware slowly rolling out (the one adding the RAW support and July security update) patch) etc, anyone managed to update when bootloader unlocked and rooted, avoiding losing data?
If I have to do a clean flash it wouldn't be the end of the world but I would love to avoid the hassle of (even with the usage of Swift Backup etc) and little things like not losing my autobrightness settings which have been learning my usage etc
As others have said, delete the userdata file to make sure that partition isn't erased. I don't think dirty flashing is as a big of a deal as people are making it out to be nowadays.
Just make sure you extract and pre-patch the new boot image with Magisk before you flash.

When the time comes I'll certainly give that a go, though will indeed br sure to make a full backup in case.
I'm still hoping for someone to comment confirming this method works as I've read that some users get a decryption error, but I'll give it a go soon and post back ?
Newflasher guy gets mad when you talk about anything other than flashing every file so I'll post my update here.
Removed persist.sin and userdata.sin from the 3.88 update and ran through newflasher v33. Booted right back up and lost no data. YMMV.
I'm no pro to all this but I rooted for WiFi calling when I first got the phone. The other day I saw the update for Raw on my phone and updated just fine!?

By "rooting" for WiFi calling did you just flash another customization or did you unlock the bootloader? AFAIK there's no reason to root for getting WiFi calling as flashing another firmware is the easiest way.

If you unlocked your bootloader then you will not be able to take OTAs. You do not need to have bootloader unlocked to flash another stock firmware (ie through flashtool or newflasher). You do need to have bootloader unlocked to obtain root privileges.

I unlocked my Xperia 1 II, downloaded the latest raw update from XperiFirm, deleted the userdata file, put the phone into download mode (vol. down + power), flashed via NewFlasher v33.
Phone booted up perfectly fine. Running the latest update and have raw option for all 3 cameras.
The only time your device will wipe is when you first unlock the bootloader. Otherwise, you shouldn't have any issues updating it.
