Tv2go access denied because of root - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello i have rooted my ics open germany and when i try to use the wireless tv app it does not allow me to use because i have root access. Is there any way this can be solved without loosing root. thanks in advance!!

anyone?

Don't know about TV2GO but the Time Warner app is the same way. Paranoid about people recording and people hacking the app for use on non subscriber devices.
I say these companies need to throw advertising on the shows, let everyone use it and have the app phone home to let them know what your watching so they can charge advertisers accordingly.

Redirect with wireless tether possible?

Hi all!
I'm a happy g1 user, who often use the wireless tether for root users-app. Really like this app, I think its one of the best for android.
On my study places theres no public wifi point, so no wireless internet access.
I have a limited data plan, so I can go online(if its urgent) while "studying" .
I enabled the access control, otherwise the other ones would consume my traffic volume in a few days
My question is:
Would it be possible to make an redirect for the other people, who connect to my phone?
I mean, when they open the browser and try to google ^^ they would be redirected to a page on my phone/or a redirect to my laptop?
It would be great to give them some infos for e.g. an running ircserver.
If someone has a idea, how to do that, I would be really happy
Greetings, scheich
You would have to rewrite the iptables rules used by tether, but yes, definitely possible. Why though? Wouldn't it be better to just keep them out entirely?

Hmm, year sure, but I think it would be interesting to chat "offline" with each other, and talk about stuff of the course.
Thx for the info about the iptables, I will take a look at it.

Remote Call App?

So what's up with the LG RemoteCall app. Do you all have it?
When I launched it it requested root access... very interesting for a stock app... how do they expect it to work on unrooted phones?
I've now "denied" it access, don't want ghosts in the machine.

Some apps check for root access in order to check if the device is rooted.
Since nothing will happen on a normal phone, it'll just silently pretend nothing is happening. Whereas on a rooted phone you would get the popup, and it could execute something else.

Good point, that's the likely explanation.
Anybody know what the RemoteCall app is for?
I have read somewhere that the Remote Call is used by LG to access your phone for repair purposes and stuff like that. That's why it won't do anything on the moment.
I'll try to find the website where i have found this info later on.
i tapped the app an put on my tin foil hat cus now lg knows i voided the warranty on my phone and logged it so i can't (if needed) send it for repair
(this is not a fact just me being paranoid)
remotecall
i installed app in htp, alcatel and lg phones and pc but i dont see option for a connect to Mobil, any idea?
RemoteCall for support reps
The RemoteCall app is used by the LG reps to support their customers. They will connect to your phone remotely through the app. I think it's available only phone in EU and south america though..
I scanned with Google's DDMS but there was no special data going to their server.. lg.startsupport.com.. The LG rep assured that no personal infor is being sent to them..
Re-use od Remote Call App
Hi,
did somebody figure out if it is possible to use the remote call app to remote to my own phone?

[Q] LG Remote Call app requested root access

I've found this thread for the LG X2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988046
Does anybody know some more info why this app requests for root access when the phone is rooted?
I know it's meant to use for when a support engineer from LG want's to remotely access your phone. But why would it request root when rooting isn't allowed for warranty?
Nice question
Scam
I don't think root is needed for the app. I think it enables the remote helper to detect root on your device so they can "help" you by blaming all your problems on the fact that you rooted your phone.
Haha, yeah probably. It's true that the app can work without root. But the moment the device is rooted this app will request su permissions. Anyways, I'm never going to use that app. Here in the forums they know more about this phone then the support engineers from LG. So no need for those -often not very helpful- support people.

Chromecast Privacy

Hi
I'm looking to set up multiple chromecasts around the office.
I'd like to know if users on the network can detect what is being cast.
For example.. I'm using one to show a financial portfolio, I don't want users on the network to be able to detect or see this without permission... The only people who should see it are the users in the room the cast is being presented to.
I don't want others to see the live presentation or the file name being cast.. Also I don't want them to be able take over the chromecast if its in use..
Can anyone advise on this.
Thanks

Don't know how to lock out other users unless you put it on it's own network. As for the rest of it.
If you use a password to log onto your network, and cast straight from desktop to chromecast you should be fine. The way I understand it.

Yes, if I'm casting a YouTube video and my wife connects to the same Chromecast, she'll see exactly what I'm watching as well as the playback position.
With the right application you can probably get information about what's being cast regardless of what application is casting.
Chromecast, is a consumer device designed for ease-of-use on a home network. It's very loose on the privacy, even considering the market, IMO.
As @rbeavers suggested, you can control access by putting Chromecast on separate networks, whether that's via separate APs or via VLANs, it depends on how your network is configured. If you go the VLAN route, make sure to enable Multicast support on the VLAN but not multicast routing.

Here is a good rule to go by.....
If Google's Name is on the device your Privacy is pretty much NIL! LOL
As @bhiga said, Anyone can connect to the CCast and get a report of what it is playing and where it is at in the playback.
So no Bachelor party tapes via CCast when the Wife is home! LOL
Thanks. That explains it perfectly.

Chase Bank asking for root permission! Did you ever encounting this?

Hi guys
This is the first time EVER I've seen. Last night I'd flash factory image 6.0.1 and SuperSU 2.61 with stock boot.img using system-less root method. Things went fine and I went to bed.
Woke up this morning and saw a notification from my bank (Chase) on the notification panel, I touch it and to my suprise, Chase app asking SuperSU permission so I granted it but did not open the app (Chase) and went online to researching to no avail.
So I then open Chase app and saw the toasted notification stated that Chase has been grant an inactive shell permission.
I've using Android and manually rooted, not using toolkits for years and this is the first time ever I saw a financial app seeking root . Kinda strange to me or is it due to the state of system-less rooting method? Did any of you guys ever seen this?
It asked me for root permissions as well. I denied it, and it seems to be working fine. I cannot think of any reason imaginable why Chase would want su access, and I also can't think of any reason why I'd want to allow it.
You guys sure this is the actual bank site or maybe it could be a bogus phishing site. Bank apps are not happy with root generaly.
This is the Chase app from the Play Store, which I've been using for years. I don't recall when I first noticed that it was requesting root, but it was a while ago. I just denied it and never thought twice about it, as it was fully functional.

Sounds weird to me, i`d check it if i we`re you. Can`t imagine a bank or government app for instance requesting root that makes a device per definition less secure

Agreed. Hopefully this thread will continue and someone can shed some light on this. I'll look into it as well.

It may have something to do with restricting what you can do with the app if you have root. Just saw this review for the Chase Freedom Mobile app on Play Store:

Oke, its better to be safe then to be sorry
There is NO WAY in the world that ANY REAL Chase app would ever ask for root...I'd get rid of that app, and do a full wipe of my phone...
They may make a request for elevated permission to ensure it fails? Sort of checking to ensure things are secure?
As scryan says above, it's very possible the application checks for various indicators that the phone has root and adjusts its behavior if so. I know the application already explicitly blocks screenshots.
Such behavior wouldn't be too surprising. Root access is a large security hole in that any application with root access can access private storage for any other location. Combine that kind of access with the application's ability to make financial transactions from within the application and you have a major risk.
Just checked, the app does ask for root.....
Lmao!!!!

I'm sure that the app is/was downloaded from Play store and I've used it extensively but never have seen root permission seeking prior to flashing 6.0.1 and system-less root method.
Like you, I'm highly doubt when app from financial institution and government asking for root permission .
Will wait to see more info from other users before contacting my bank.
Same here. I uninstalled and reinstalled. It's probably a security measure? Anyway, until I hear otherwise I'm not using the app.
I can't remember but I believe coamerica bank app did the same thing but it went away with a update.
anyone thought to call chase and ask? they have always been a great bank to me.
@Chainfire any ideas?
All these questions could be answered by someone running a logcat to see what it is doing. Might want to get used to it. With the changes to android making root harder and more and more apps checking for root/xposed. You will soon have to choice between using the app or being modded. We all see it coming to that.
I once had the My Verizon Mobile app ask for root access. I lol'd at it then quickly deleted it.
This is a security check for the app. I know the Blizzard Authenticator used to do a root check and wouldn't even work if you allowed it root access.
What I did to get it to work, is try to open the app. It will hang there in the gray screen. Go to your home screen, open the supersu app and simply delete the entry for chase.
Press the recent apps button and switch back to Chase app. It will load normally, without asking for root again. Only problem is that you have to do it every time.
Hope it works for you guys as well.
