[Q] Slow Facebook and other Data Apps - Motorola Droid 4

Hello all. My wife has a Droid 4 and is experiencing extremely slow data apps such as Facebook and Yahoo mail. Her internet browsing speeds are also very slow. I have the HTC Rezound and am not experiencing any delay in my browsing or FB apps which leads me to believe it is her phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what we could do? She is currently all stock and is not rooted. (My rezound is rooted, debloated, and has a custom rom installed, maybe that is the difference??)
Thank you in advance for your help and have a blessed day!

Is this happening over 3G, 4G, wifi, or all of them?

4g and Wifi for sure. We have good 4g reception where we live, so I'm pretty sure none of it is while on 3g.

Gtalk losing connection, help please

I keep getting disconnected on gtalk. So I recieve mails that someone wrote me.
Really annoying.
Now running a rooted frf91 rom, with radio 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7, but have had this problem for six weeks, with different roms and radios...
It seems to be happening randomly, maybe when it switches between 3g/no 3g reception, but I'm not sure of that. It also seems to be turning of 3g even though I'm in an area with good reception.
Anybody have a clue?
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be worse when I have wifi enabled. Even with wifi set to be always on the connection goes out multiple times a day. I've found that leaving phone on 3G has given me better connectivity for gtalk.

One question. Are you using N1 by AT&T?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
no, I'm in Denmark, on Telenor
I don't think this has anything to do with your rom, radio, or even the N1 for that matter. I have had 3 HTC phones both rooted and non-rooted (G1, N1, MT3GS) and everyone of them go in and out of connectivity on gtalk. It may be a reception issue but I think t has more to do with how the app is made. Just my 2 cents.
Nah, cause my gf on desire, my friend on hero, and myself earlier on magic didn't have the same problems... :/
And also, as I said; I suspect it might be because the 3g falls out. Even though I stay stationary, the 3g switches over to edge... or even somethimes gprs. And I live downtown copenhagen, good reception on other phones.
I have the same problem, but it is only when I leave my WiFi area into 3g. It just won't reconnect until I manually sign in. But from that point forward it stays connected all day with no issues.

[Q] HD7 Wifi Speed

Hi All
Had my HD7 for a few weeks now and im liking it, used to be an IPhone user but thats all changed now.
One thing i want to know is that the HD7 is stated as having wireless N capabilities. When im on my wireless N network at home im getting really slow responses from the browser or when downloading apps from the market place (like im on GPRS or non wifi). I have a wireless N network setup and also have 50mb Cable so its not a problem with the LAN/WAN as i can download lightening fast with the lappy or even when i had the Iphone on the same LAN.
Anyone else noticed that the wifi is not very fast? Also is there a "speed test" app that can tell me the sorta speed im getting, used to be one on the Iphone, but obviously cant be flash based, which are most on the web. Did find one non flash based site but im not convinced its that good.
Any advise is appreciated.
I use tracert's non-flash based bandwidth meter and seem to get low reading as well. my max. bandwidth is 15 Mbps yet my HD7 usually tests well below 10 Mbps. Odd. In terms of downloads though, my HD7 is speedy. I downloaded NFS from Xbox Live and calculated it was downloading at about 1 MB/s (which is fair for a 15 Mbps connection). So maybe the speed tests are off.
no problems for me.
It's weird that on IE on the HD2 you could use speedtest.net to test speeds, but on the hd7, it says you don't have the proper flash installed....
Hd 7 dosent support flash yet, maybe with update next year.. as far as I know this is the best device for my wifi although its not N
Hero used to struggle with my wifi but the hd 7 is super brilliant..
Just love it on this one
No problems here. And when it comes to browsing this thing is a pure joy ! Imagine when they will update the browser with Flash 10.1 and overall speed. I browsed today a little longer then usual and when I got home and turned my PC on it all felt boring. This is the first time I am experiencing a far more enjoyable browsing on my phone rather than my PC.
They have done an amazing job
mmm must just be mine then, an app from marketplace on the phone took about 3 minutes to download while on wifi and its just a small notes app. Weird! Ill keep having a look at whats going on.
It's surely something with your phone or with the WLAN. When I am home I am browsing only via WiFi and in my room I only get low signal but even then it runs pretty fast.
I have to disable cellular data and 3g to make my WiFi fast on my hd7. I'm on tmobile and in an edge coverage area. It seems that the phone prefers cellular data over WiFi even when there is a clear speed advantage in WiFi.
I have experienced zero problems with the HD7 over wifi. This is also with T-Mobile coverage in an edge only area. Settings allow for all network types including 3G.
Well im surprised because my experience in Puerto Rico with the hd7 on the internet speed its noe the best.
When use the app's for speed test never come colse to 1 mega and the faster speed its around 400 kpbs its T-Mobile or the phone really i'm think its the phone because my wife have an Lg optimus with android and the same t-mobile but the speed its around 1.2 and 1.5 mbps so if any one have the solutions wow i'm apreaciate to hear about.

[Q] NC over Sprint 4G Fails but 3G OK

Would anyone know why the NC won't browse web over wi-fi via Sprint 4G? [Edit to add: This appears to be an Evo-specific issue.] NC over 3G works fine with both Wireless Tether and the Sprint Hotspot feature on the Evo. You would think wi-fi is wi-fi and it wouldn't make any difference whether it was 3G or 4G, but it does--the 4G radio won't let the NC browse web.
It's not just my setup, because I'm aware of at least one other report of this issue--in another forum.
I have tried Nooky Froyo and stock 1.01 and 1.1 NC's I have also eliminated my local Sprint Wimax antenna and environmental RF interference as the cause by trying to browse in more than one location in my city. Also tried more than one NC. I'm running EVO's 3.70.651.1 from December.
Thanks for any pointers.
Works fine for me, but I'm using an Epic, not an Evo. Have you tried using another device to make sure that your 4G connection is actually being shared properly? Keep in mind that you have to enable 4G, then turn on Wifi Tether.

Just tried your order of events. Still fails. It works as soon as you turn the 4G radio off and go back to 3G. I'm aware of one other Evo with the same problem. Your success with another device leads me to believe you're right it's an issue with the way the Evo is handling the requests.
Does anyone know what the difference is between WiMax 4G and EVDO 3g in an IP sense? Where could it hiccup?

Do you mean like a laptop on the same software/hardware wi-fi connection? If so, yes laptops work fine. It's just the Nook Color that doesn't.
Try updating wifi tether to the latest version if you haven't.
3g and 4g uses different IP addresses and interfaces (while 2g and 3g use the same radio interface and IP, which is why you can go back and forth and your file transfers won't get interrupted), this is probably the real cause of your problem. You may have an old version of Wifi Tether that doesn't enable IP masquerade on the 4g interface.
Same problem here. My PC connects fine via WiFi tether on 4G to my EVO and at good speed. My NC stalls when connected to my EVO via wifi tether on 4G. Also speedtest app is slow on dl.
I have the latest version 2.0.6.

I'm running 2.06 which is the latest I believe. This issue also exists using the Evo's Hotspot feature with a paid Sprint account add-on. I'm able to establish now that this is Evo only.
I tested this after reading your post. I am using CM6 w/o WIMAX, so had to nandroid restore Warm. I started 4G, then wireless tether. I tethered the NC to my Evo on 4G for about 15 minutes and it worked fine. Web pages loaded fully. Perhaps this short test is not too helpful, but I get crappy 4G service in my house.
When I was using the VaelPak ROM about a month ago, whenever I used 4G the browser (Dolphin HD and stock) on my phone would only load part of the web pages. This sounds similar to the issue that you are experiencing on the NC. Vael didn't have access to 4G, so couldn't isolate the problem (other VaelPak users had apparently reported similar issues).

Thanks for testing and reporting. 15 minutes is plenty of time for 4G to freeze the browser, so that test indicated a successful session. What is Warm? Is it a ROM? Your second test with VaelPak ROM echos other tests where 4G/NC won't work. The Evo stock ROM doesn't work, for example.
Using Shinzul & Toast's Gingerbread 4g alpha 3 rom for the EVO, I can tether and browse on the Nook over 4g just fine.

Yes, Warm is a popular Sense-based ROM. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471
Just to be clear, I did not test tethering the NC with the VaelPak ROM. I was just noting that I had experiences similar to the one you are describing while using that ROM on my phone -- the browser on my Evo would stop halfway through webpages when using 4G with that ROM.
It seems somewhat logical that the issue is ROM (or kernel?)-related, but it seems odd that you have success tethering everything other than the NC on 4G.
My nc connects perfectly to my evo on 4g using evio 1.8 rom from calkulin. I'm also using wireless tether, but i have had no issues.

Thanks, I can see I am going to have to try a different ROM on the EVO. However, I wonder how the NC treats internet that's different to how a laptop does? Why does everything else browse web OK on all the ROMS but not the NC?

Do you by chance have the AdFree app installed (root only) or a hosts file on your Evo that blocks ads? After trying to use 4G on various ROMs recently, I realized that AdFree was causing my web pages to to load only part way. I looked around the web and found that at least a few people were having similar issues, and they isolated the problem to AdFree. After reverting the hosts file and uninstalling AdFree, my 4G web surfing was noticeably better.
I like not seeing ads, but would rather have a functional 4G. Just thought I would share in case this might be your issue.

No, good guess though.

Browser issues?

Hey ya'll. I'm connected to my WiFi at home. Friendcaster won't load in when connected to WiFi but my wife's does in her spectrum..another issue is when I'm on the browser Facebook won't load in at all regardless of WiFi or mobile data..but it does on my wife's spectrum. I'm currently on stock unrooted but if there's a fix for this for rooted users I'll do it in a heartbeat..

I am on Broken Out 1.1 for the V8 update and the last month or so I have had nothing but issues with FB on wifi or 3g. 4g connection it is ok. Wifi in general is ok, but not as good as V7. I have done a complete wipe and reinstalled the BO 1.1 rom and still issues with FB on wifi or 3g (It's the only app that does it). My wife has an Incredible 2 and no issues either.
I've asked about this issue before and now I believe it's becoming a known issue with the Revo and a few other devices. Mostly a fb prob.

Idk. I know when connected to WiFi my internet doesn't wanna work but on mobile data it works perfect

I'm having the same exact prob with fb app. I just been using the browser instead. I'm on v8 broken out. I have also been having issues with my 4g and 3g cutting in and out randomly. It's pretty annoying. I've completely re installed everything on my revo twice including the OS and still have the same issues

FB is doing a major update for their ios app, maybe that means there is one for android too, but maybe having wifi on and 4g on when doing the rom flash will work, not an expert but that is how i did it and it works fine with me
thing is its not just my fb app, even if i try to use the browser if im connected to wifi it doesnt work, not just fb but a bunch of other web pages wont work. but when i connect to the mobile network it all works perfect
+1 on all this. No FB on wifi with the BO Revo, everything works just fine on the BO Spectrum.
No clue as to the cause or solution.
Sent from my BrokenOut 3.0 LG Spectrum 4GLTE Android Phone
The FB wifi problem came with the ZV9 update, it's not related to BO.
I am on V8 and having this issue. WiFi in general isn't as good as it used to be. FB won't connect on wifi or 3g, keep getting connection lost. I just don't have the time in the next week to wipe everything and reflash BO, then install FB 1st and try to see if some other apps or blitz or supercharger are causing an issue.

[Q] Poor Speed on WiFi networks, YouTube and other apps

My wife and I both have the HTC one and love it, however our WiFi speeds are atrocious. Our laptop will hit 35+ mbps and our phones rarely peak 6-8 mbps. YouTube, hulu, and anything else data intensive is useless. Our isp has been out, everything is fine, att said it's an isp issue, so no help there. However I loaded up viper 1 rom last night and I only see a marginal increase on speeds. Is there something her and I are missing or is this a hardware issue and extremely coincidental?
Her phone is a factory rom I am running the latest viperone
