32 bit file editor for 32 bit output? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Themes and Apps

I checked sys/class/graphics/fb0/bitsperpixel and its showing 32... but if android isnt capable of rendering at that bit-depth, and sketchbook pro won't even let us look at a sketch's metadata till its exported, then how do I know I'm even getting 32bit over 16bit color output at any stage in the pipeline? Any apps that support 32bit color natively in android?

WM7 Pure?? - Not really

No this isn't a thread asking if WM7 is coming to pure. I was reading I think it was may issue of an australian technology mag APC and it mentioned that the pure will be the first phone to get the WM7 upgrade. I don't know were that would have came from but has anyone else heard anything of this? I personally think it was a faulty sources though.
Not to be stingy but its actually WP7, its no longer windows mobile as any apps will not be supported, Its now Windows Phone 7 I'm not sure if its a complete recode, but from what I've seen its completely different from windows mobile.
WP7 Will NOT come to the Pure, Unless they're making a new Pure haha.
"FYI: Windows Phone 7 Series Minimum System Requirements
Capacitive Touch: 4 or more contact points
Sensors: A-GPS, Accelerometer, Compass, Light, Proximity
Camera: 5 megapixels or more, Camera with a flash and dedicated camera button
Multimedia: Common detailed specs, Codec acceleration
Memory: 256 MB, 8 GB Flash or more
GPU: DirectX 9 acceleration
Processor: ARMv7 Cortex/Scorpion or better
2 screen sizes: 480×800 WVGA, 480×320 HVGA
Keyboard: Optional
Hardware Buttons: Must be fixed on the face"
This pretty much means No WP7 on Pure it doesn't really have a DX 9 capable GPU
Yep I'm aware of all that, I was merely commenting on what was reported, thats all. But thanks anyway.
ive seen this post here and all over the net and see the same reply. that the pure is not "strong" enough to handle windows 7 mobile.

[Q] Only 16 Bit colors?

Hello,
compared to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 i think that the Galaxy Note only shows 16 bit colors.
Is this a display limitation? Or is this done to improve the speed?
Agreed - I believe it shows 16bit non-dithered hence the banding.
Some apps appear to force 24bit though like the browser...
+1 ... I hate to see my wallpapers and other stuff in this ****ty banding... waiting for some patch or something else...
The display is definitely capable of 24bit otherwise i would see banding in my pictures or am I wrong?

Note is Gingerbread 16 bits. Gtab is Honeycomb (most probably 24bits)
16 million colors
samsung's tech specs on the note says it can display 16 million colors. according to what i have read that does mean it is 24 bits.
read this about how the gallery still displays using 16 bits but the browser is displaying 24 bits...... interesting.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2376196,00.asp
Dice Player plays my full hd mkv videos over wireless lan perfect, but only 16 bit colors too which result in bad black colors. This is no High Definition. And mywater.apk live background looks bad too.
Doing bits
The Note display is 24bit.
If viewing 16bit images and or using 16 bit apps, you will see banding.
Some stock Android apps such as the Gallery app are 16bit as per pcmag article.
An .mkv of Trueblood I have on sdcard plays perfectly with shades of black displayed well and no banding.
The file is 2Gb for 60 minutes.
Lo res images and video can look like crap on this screen, just as on an HD TV.
I tried quickpic which as 24bit rendering, I still see the banding issues and blockiness of blacks.

[Q]Can the D3 stream YouTube 1080p with flash?

Hi guys, can anyone kindly help me test if the droid 3's CPU is capable of streaming yotube videos in 1080p in flash. i am thinking of getting the D4 which shares the same CPU as the D3 except with a higher clock.
i know Samsung's S2's CPU(the exynos, not the tegra 2 version) is capable of handling youtube's 1080p. i would really appreciate your help.
PS: i sympathize with those who purchased the D3.
I'm sure it has the ability to do it, but I've never done it before..

i need someone to do an actual test to confirm. the tegra 2 for instance, despite having 2 cortex a9 cores like the exynos, can't handle 1080p in flash.
Let me check.. but I don't see why you would play a 1080p youtube movie when the screen is only 960x540. 720p would make much more sense (1280x720)
edit: when I go to the desktop page of youtube it says I need to upgrade flash player but I have 11 installed.
Opening in youtube app only lets me choose between HQ and no HQ

perhaps you have not enabled plugin in the setting? maybe you can try another browser? i am aware that 720p is good enough on the phone's screen, but the ability to stream 1080p in flash will proof that the D3's CPU is just as capable as the exynos since the exynos is the only CPU that can handle 1080p in flash afaik. it will also be useful when i output it via HDMI onto my 65" full hd tv since 1080p looks much more clear on a such a big screen. i appreciate your effort anyways.
Its downscaling anything above its 960x540 resolution, but when I tested Flash player it was able to do 720p no problem. When the quality is switched to 1080p the video frame rate drops to nothing but the audio still plays. This is in Dolphin Browser HD with a desktop user agent.

Well flash works fine in mobile version. The desktop version probably looks for desktop flash. Btw just for the record my D3 plays 720p MKVs fine (2GB - 1hour), which probably has a higher bitrate than those youtube 1080p's

yeah i know, my xoom's tegra 2 can handle 8gb 1080p MKVs with no problem, but when it comes to flash 1080p it just stutters like mad. i am not sure why your flash doesn't work in desktop version, maybe you need to change your user agent to desktop. i have no problem with flash on desktop youtube on my phone. mind if i ask what browser did you use? i am currently using dolphin browser MINI with desktop user agent with plugin set to always on.
PS: the android flash is the same as desktop flash, they are just coded for different platforms unlike flash player LITE which is found on Nokia phones. i am very certain that youtube's mobile site does not use flash, it uses the phone's built in player instead to stream the content.

It's not about power but also about optimization.
I use Miren Browser, just set it to desktop user agent and still says I dont have flash. Now when I click on flash it points me to download desktop .dmg version. I doubt this will work?
Also tried default browser but no go

In this case it is about pure raw processing power the tegra 2 is a more optimized than the exynos at the moment due to its mature drivers, API and all that but it still loses to the exynos despite having the same structure as the exynos.
If you look at synthetic benchmarks, you will notice that the exymos is slower than both the omap4430 and the tegra 2, yet in real life, it is the fastest. I have tegra 2 overclocked to 1.6ghz and it still cannot handle 1080p flash. Even though flash claims to be GPU accelerated, it is extremely taxing on the CPU.
Samsung always seems to produce superior chips than its competitors, just take the Hummingbird CPU in the original galaxy s, it is still the fastest single core mobile CPU on the market.
As for your flash problem, have you tried reinstalling flash from the market? You might have to wipe your dalvik cache.
I just tested on my d3 to see.....it worked! I mean at times it wasn't butter smooth and hesitated occasionally but played just fine overall. 720p looks the same on the screen but is butter smooth constantly so yes....the d3..mine at least...can do 1080p youtube. Running cm7...init.d hack. Didn't even use my overclock haha

bravia for d3?

I see a lot of of roms with the Sony bravia engine I looked it up but I don't fully understand can anybody give me some info on as for the rom part can we incorporate it into our roms
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
i'm pretty sure the Bravia engine is a chipset like on sony's tv's and not rom specific, which is why it's only available in sony phones. i have had sony phones in the past & looked recently at the expria line, the video has always been superb!
They have ported. It to phones from htc but I entirely don't know

http://www.sonyericsson.com/product/xperiaarc/video/mbe/ Xperia arc mbe (mobile bravia engine) cheesy vid on the se site but might give you an idea of what it does.
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/15365 Q&A on the SE forums about what the mbe really is, user asks if it's just an image enhancer software and the mod(S/E Employee) responds with
The Mobile BRAVIA (Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture) technology is a suite of image processing technologies and offers:
Improved image quality from any signal like photos, filmed videos, YouTube videos, flash animations and websites
Clearer, sharper and more natural images
The LED back-lit Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine reduces light reflection when used outdoors.
The advantages of the BRAVIA Engine that it is a digital video processing system that produces following better image quality:
More realistic blacks
Sharper edge definition
Further noise reduction
Enhanced contrast
Advanced natural colours
Digital Reality Creation (DRC) up-scales standard definition inputs by quadrupling the number of pixels in the image source to create HD picture quality
This is the hardware used:
Our Sony Ericsson Xperia™ Mobile phones with Mobile BRAVIA technology uses a built-in Adreno 205 graphic processor with following features:
Supported APIs:
OpenGL ES 2.0
OpenGL ES 1.1
OpenVG 1.1
EGL 1.3
Direct3D Mobile
SVGT 1.2
Direct Draw
GDI
Concurrent CPU, Digital signal processing (DSP), graphics and Mini Display Port (MDP)
I hope the above information clarifies your idea on the Mobile Bravia Engine.

I know the arc etc (anything that I know I've seen the mbe running on) is using the qualcomm adreno gpu, although I'm pretty sure our sgx chips support all the API's listed above it might be a real roadblock not having that chip. Also, the software was real garbage, it was only on when you were viewing an image or your desktop or something like that, if you opened a full screen vid it shut off. Here's a dev thread where someone ported it from the arc to the play (should be the most basic port for this software since both phones use the same hardware) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246402 Sounds like hassle for something that doesn't work when you want it to. If you really want to try it out I would download the cwm install files from the xperia play thread, unzip them, push the be_movie and be_photo to /system/etc/, chmod them to 755 just like the updater script does and add these 2 lines to your build.prop
Code:
ro.service.swiqi.supported=true
persist.service.swiqi.enable=1
This would be the quick/dirty way I would use to just see if it works personally. All the instructions I wrote came out of the updater-script from the play port basically.
I had the arc for ~2 months before getting rid of it but IIRC there were only 2 instance when the mbe was active, when viewing images with gallery and ?videos on youtube?? If I can find a system dump of the new bell firmwares(not the patch files but every time I ask for a dump someone links me patch files lol) I might take a look for you and see about popping it in a rom.
Okay thank you but seems like it's just a display enhancer could we modify it and make it universal Like a dsp manager

It may, my only concern would be that (unless it is actually working on the SGS2) is it running on any phones that aren't using the qualcomm adreno gpu? And wouldn't it/shouldn't it be much more optimized for that hardware/would we really see any benefit from it at all?

[Q] Will Windows Phone 8 Run WP7 Apps?

The clue is in the question - will I be able to play my existing games and use my existing apps, or must I purchase new versions?
Windows Phone 8 will be able to run Windows Phone 7.x apps.
It will run 7.5 apps. And perfectly I might add.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
yeah it will be compatible with older apps but the sad news is that however the apps built exclusively for wp8 won't run on wp7 which is big let down for previous gen WP owners like me
Can anyone confirm the following, maybe by checking on an emulator. I read somewhere that W7 apps (480x800) running on a W8 phone with 1200x720 res (Ativ) will be displayed full screen, but are displayed with black bars top and bottom when running on a phone with 1200x768 res (Lumia 920). Is this true.
800x480 is a 16:10 ratio, 1280x768 is a 16:10 ratio, 1280x720 is a 16:9 ratio. Price question: which one will have to display bars for legacy Apps? Seems the problem would be with the 1280x720 phones like the Ativ S and HTC 8X not the other way round.
According to MS, neither resolution will display black bars.

This is not what I read online. Now I need to hunt the link. On the WP8 handsets, WP7 apps are either scaled 150% or 160%. As soon as I find the link I will come back and post. From memory, the Lumia will have black bars but the HTC 8X/Ativ won't.

I suggest you download the SDK and try it out then, since it has been released. Given that I was part of the SDK Preview group you can trust me on that one - the 720p Displays on the Ativ S and 8X have bars and the Lumia 920 does not.
