So I have gone several days using the July 4th nightly for the NON ICS AOKP build 40 and if my data goes out, wipe cache first then dalvik cache and reboot.( ONLY WIPING CACHE DOES NOT RESTORE DATA FOR ME. If I still can't get it up, toggling gsm twice gets data back online. This has worked for 4 days so far. Has anyone else had any lucky finding a solid data restoration method for the NON ICS BUILDS OF AOKP?

Dear all,
I start using SpeedMod since version K12K.
There is no problem when I update the kernel from K12K to K12L, K12M, K12P, until from K12P to K12Q and so on.
After flashing with Odin and reboot, the phone becomes very slow, both in operation and the touch screen response.
I have tried updating from K12P to K12Q, K12R and K12S, they have the same symptom and slow. When I flash back to K12L or K12P, it becomes normal.
Any advises please?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe you should wipe the dalvik cache and cache. Go to recovery mode - clockworkmod options - wipe dalvik cache. do the same with cache partition.
Then reboot. That first reboot will take longer than usual because the dalvik cache has to be rebuild again. After that everything should be fine.
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried wiping the cache, then the dalvik cache, but it seems remain the same --- slow and lag. I would like to know if there is any sequence, let's say wipe the cache first, then wipe the dalvik cache, then flash the phone? or something else?
After wiping the cache, in general speaking, how long do I have to wait after the reboot?
Thanks in advance.

What i mean is that the first reboot after wiping the dalvik cache takes longer than usual because the dalvik cache has to be rebuild again.
You might check in the task manager if there's any running process cunsuming cpu time, which could lead to laginess. There are many things that could produce lags (widgets, apps etc.) I dont know what's installed on your phone.

I see. However, I am thinking if the lag is because of the apps. Since I am using the same apps before and after the kernel update. I did wipe the dalvik cache after flash, but after reboot, the phone response very slow, and whenever I click the home button, it just did not show up.
Any more ideas? Thanks a lot.

What i would do in your case would be:
Backup all important data/apps etc.
Then do a complete wipe and reset to factory defaults.
Then flash the latest firmware: froyo 2.2.1
Then flash speedmod kernel and apply all recommended tweaks.
After that restore app by app and rethink the real use of each app (do you really need/use it?).
Might sound complicated but it might be even easier than loosing more time on hopeless attempts to solve the problem...

Cheers man, this will be my last step. Thank you for your help.

NP Tell us if you succeeded. You might want to try wiping thumbnail database before (forgot to mention that beforehands).

Just done a factory reset (erase data + data cache + dalvik cache)
and flash the new version of kernel. The phone is back to normal now.

When applying an update to a ROM, is a data wipe always required, or can I simply flash boot.img and the .zip over top of the existing installation?
More specific to my situation, I'm using Albinoman's CM11 ROM; if anyone has flashed the December 10 update without wiping data, did it fix the black browser issue or would I need to do a wipe? I'd post this on the ROM's thread, but I don't have ten posts yet.
EDIT: Wiped only Dalvik and flashed the update, works smoothly and the black browser bug is fixed.

I have found clean wipes the best but use the recovery option to reload certain data etc or back up apps and reinstall clean.
Basically, i back up contacts, calendars, sms etc anyway these days. Makes for an easy transfer of data when needed.

If you are updating the same ROM... Usually you don't need to wipe... Anything more than dalvik cache and cache
However... EVERYONE will ask you and then suggest a full wipe if you have any issues...

Hi,
somehow the software of my galaxy note got damaged. I didnt install new firmware or anything. i just wanted to shut it down but i think it freezes already there. so i took the battery out. but when i start it it gets to the samsung boot anmation and crashes and restarts again.
i can reach the phils kernal and also bootloader. i hope i can do a custom flash to fix it without that i have to wipe it and reinstall anything. which part i have to reflash to fix that?
if you can reach the recovery, then make nandroid backup and wipe data and cache and dalvik and finally restore your cache and data (or you can reflash using odin and then restore data and cache).

Thanks! Tried it but I think the backup wasn't created correct. I couldn't restore data and cache.
well I used a some months old backup. had to update a lot and to do changes but it works now.
so I will create an actual backup now.

Hi,
I recently rebooted my Droid 4 after not changing or installing anything, and since then it is stuck in the cm boot animation logo.
Is there any possibility to get it back to work, without reinstalling the image? As I would lose some App configurations and data otherwise...
Currently installed version is the latest stable maserati; I think it is 10.2.1
I already deleted Cache and Dalvik Cache multiple times.
Thx in advance
You can reinstall rom without wiping data, just use same file, may work may not depends on what the problem is.

Already tried that in the meantime, did not work...
Would it maybe work if I installed another rom (cm11) on Slot 2 (next to the crashed cm10 on Slot 1) in Safestrap? Would that enable me to use my installed apps, configs, and data (photos etc)?
