Frontline on PBS. - Off-topic

Who watches this wonderful program? Very in-depth pieces. Next week they're doing an episode about a high school group that built a kit car that outperforms many production sports cars. I've seen coverage on everything from legalizing marijuana to the failures of forensic science. Love it.

I used to watch it more but haven't in some time after moving from DFW to Vegas. It was better before they cut it down to 30 minutes and moved to David Brancachio. I guess Bill Moyers was getting older, but David just doesn't have the same watchability or followthrough that Bill had.

How can I watch TV on my Advantage?

I have been searching the forum trying to find a good software to watch TV with. I want to add a little more to my device and try to watch episodes that I cant normally watch while I'm at work.
What are some good softwares I can use to watch TV with? I found Sling and looking up another called "Orb". I have no experience with either. Can someone educate me if you have experience?
Are there more out there that I have not ran across?
Thanks in advance!
orb is excellent, check it out ! (but make sure you are on an unlimited dataplan, and you have 3g in your area.
I do have an unlimited dataplan but I dont have 3g (not in area yet)?
Will 3g make any difference?
Thanks for the reply!!

a huge difference mate, GPRS is around 50 Kbps ( a tiny grainy postage stamp for a pic and mono sound)
3G starts at 384 Kbps and maxes out a 1200 Kbps on the athena and means full screen decent quality pics and stereo sound !!
PS since upgrading to Ap 4.0 I am having a problem with this, it works but the video (windows media video) is very stop start, where as on AP 2.0 I got fluid full motion video in TCPMP
Makes since. Well I can only wait until Tmobile get 3G hopefully soon! I have been struggling with TCPMP and Windows Media since the upgrade to AP4.

if you dont mind my asking, where are you ? here in the uk Tmob have fairly good 3g coverage
I'm in Minnesota over in the US. I have read talks about Tmo getting 3G but I called yesterday after i read your post and they said they have plans to launch it this year. But he didnt know when.
i also read that in other states they already have it up. A little confused if that was accurate information or not!
Thanks for asking!
Makes me want to move to the UK!
trust me, you dont wish you live here, the only reason we have 3G coverage is that in comparison to the US, it is cheap to set up here, as the country is so small and densely populated, did you know that London is only around 30 miles across but home to around 7 million people, This pressure on land makes housing cost stupid amounts here.
plus we pay around $9.85 for a US Gallon (3.79 litres) of diesel
OMG I cant believe that many people live in such a small area. That make since about the inexpensiveness of 3G.
Wow...we complaining about 3.99 per gallon here. I cant believe gas is that much. I'm certain we will be there in 12 months, in less we find away to do something.
What would an average 1 bedroom cost in London? It cant be a crazy amount is it?
Well maybe I will come visit first!!!!

Try it here in CT for 4.40 per gallon of regular gas, and that's the cheapest.
...
If CT is paying 4.40 per gallon. Then it is around the corner before MN get over 4.10.
I wonder who is paying the most in the US? Clearly we arent where London is or are we?

in a really bad area, around $250,000 ~$300,000 and at the other end of the scale the sky is the limit, roughly $1,000,000 or more.
see for yourself, this is an example of one of the best area's in london, 99.9% of the normal people that live in london can't afford this, but renting a 1/2 bedroom flat will set you back around $20,000 per month
http://www.belgraviaestateagents.com/
the normal price for renting a 1/2 bedroom flat is $1000 ~$2000 per month, I pay $1400 for mine. but I live just outside london.
but at least mobile phone calls are cheap, the cheapest being 1100 anytime any network minutes or texts for $40 per month
I learn something everyday!!
I never knew it cost this much to live in London. Following your link, some of the flats were going for 3,500. I dont know what that would cost in dollars!!!
When i clicked on "buying" I saw some houses stating 'Leasehold 63 years' or 'Leasehold 193 years'. Excuse my ignorance...but what does that mean?
I'm also curious about the general demographics of who occupies these sky is the limit areas or the really bad areas? Are there families? College students? Single business owners? Political statesmen? Who live in these areas in London?
LOL £3500, is the per WEEK rental value and at current exchange rates, it is 2 dollars to the pound, so that is $7000 per week or $28,000 per 4 week month.
However apart from feb we don't have any 4 week months, so to get the true monthly value they multiply the weekly figure by 52 (weeks in the year) and then divide by 12 which is $30,333 per month.
Im not 100% on the following as I rent, but as far as I know, When you buy a House in the UK you are litteraly buying the house only, IE the bricks and mortar ! with regards to the actual land the house is sitting on, you are leasing it, houses normally come with a 99 or 999 year lease bundled in with the cost of the house (measured from when the lease was last renewed not when you purchased the house) , if you buy a house and the lease expires, you dont have to move out (infact you are protected from being forced out by law) however you do have to start paying the lease holder rent, (even though you fully purchased your property several decades before) obviously this is not a desireable situation, and if there are only a few years left on the lease, it will have a serious negative effect on the value of the house !
And with regards to who lives where, people just buy what they can afford ! you have famillies with 2 kids or more living in 1 bed flats in really bad areas and the uber rich businessman/woman using the multi million dollar house or flat in central london as a boarding home, just somewhere to stay by him/herself during his/her week in work before heading back out to the countryside to spend the weekend with the family.
The average wage in the uk is around £28,000 ($56,000) people in london are supposed to get more to absorb the higher cost of living but a lot don't even earn the average, to buy a home in the UK, the banks have just gone back to the good old days stipulating you can only borrow 3 times your wages (if your by yourself) , which means nobody on average wage in london, can buy any properties FULL stop (unless they have a mammoth deposit). you have to be earning around £45,000 ($90,000) and have the usual 10% deposit if you want a shot at purchasing a £150,000 ($300,000) 1/2 bedroom flat.
My goodness, the cost is crazy. The average or medium is clearly not in support of home buyers, (sounds exactly like here) but was is the home buying market look like there? Meaning....are people buying? Is the market ripe for it in conjuction to people's ability? What about you down the line....do you who hope to buy a home there in London for your family or maybe stay on the countryside?
Are there other places that use a different formula to calculate rent?
If rent cost that much, even for a flat, what is the homeless situation in London? Have the banks ever financed buyers, single or not, where they gave more then three times the yearly salary? Are there other programs that will support buyers outside the bank? gov., corp, etc.
Sorry for having a lot of questions.....this is just interesting to me! Besides, I'm trying to observe more or less the parellels between the states and your hometown.
Thanks ice_coffee

On top of that whenever you buy a house you pay stamp duty (a form of tax) for the house purchase, due to the high prices the govermet eliminated stamp duty for houses below £120.000 ($240 thau) wich is ridiculous due that the average U.K house price approaches £200 thau, then you got council tax (average £130 per month)...I stop ranting about the staggering number of taxes but I really would like to know how Spain France or Germany manage to have first class National health, public transport and council services (compared with those here) and the fourth rich country in the world does not manage.
In the other hand
Unemployed people can apply for housing benefit and income support (the rent paid and a meager amount of money every 2 weeks to help them keep going) single mums and people without income can apply for coucil houses and pay nil
NHS is free as in beer
Buses are free for children and the eldery....there are more benefits, and yes there are homeless some people abuse the system and the system is a mess but just say that in other parts of the world the needy gets nothing.
London is a sprawl rather than a concentration ( more LA than Newyork) Given the chance people will live in garden houses rather than flats, in flats will live however cannot afford a house or profesionals that can aford the £500000+ Luxury pad with river views plus the home at the country and profesionals that use a small flat during work days to avoid long conmmuting, an hour conmuting to work is the norm.
just an anecdote, an american couple both layers and her daugter came on holidays and wanted to see Nothing Hill, they liked the area as charming but after enquiring the price of one house the guy commented, "my god a million pounds for a place that fit inside of my garage"
Welcome to London
and now I better get back on topic
The housing market here has just come out of a massive boom period, where they were giving everybody mortgages, and I really mean everybody, they copied the US companies by giving out N.I.N.J.A mortgages to people with N.o I.ncome N.o J.ob or A.ssets or giving people 6 times their salary with no deposit, this pushed the house prices up, as supply could not meet demand. Now that this boom is over and house prices are falling, there are lots of peeps with mortgages they can't afford, having their houses repossessed. The banks are stuck with repossessed homes that they have to sell for less than they paid for them, which is why ALL the banks have gone cautious again, back to the old days of 3 times your mortgage and deposit upfront !
My fiancé and I are saving a 10% deposit at the moment, we are at £15,000 ($30,000) but we need to get to £30,000 ($60,000) so we can buy a house, we will probably stay where we are, I work nights all over London on the underground rail network, so traffic is not a problem for me, plus it is really nice where I live.
There are homeless people in London, but there are also volunteer organisations to look after them, plus the government will give free accommodation to those who apply for it as mentioned by PBL1! although it would be really crappy accomm and in a bad area and if your a single man you will be waiting years as pregnant teenage girls (thrown out by their parents) get to jump the queue!
There are some part buy schemes where you buy a percentage of a property and another organisation buys the rest and you pay them rent for their portion (this equates to a lower monthly outgoing but adds years to how long it will take for you to own outright !
also if you are a KEY worker (Medic, Police, fire etc etc) the government will put you in discount nice accommodation, any new build housing complexes have a percentage of the homes/flats dedicated to key workers only with heavy discounts.
Feel free to ask questions, that is what forums are for !

Absolutely Ridiculous!!!

First off, let me start by saying that I DO NOT condone piracy in any form or fashion. However when I read the story below, my blood pressure shot through the roof. They are strictly trying to prove a point here, and if I didn't know better, I would swear the story was false. They are trying to make an example out of a housewife that downloaded 24 songs. What are your thoughts?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tec_music_downloading
agreed the lawyers are just greedy. it is scary that there is such a big penalty for something that most people I know do regularly.
Of course they are trying to make a point. As much as you hate all the " music idiots " living in their million dollar " cribs " and driving expensive cars and acting like total A-holes, they do have a marketable talent, that makes loads of money. Piracy is a billion dollar business. Did anyone really think the music industry was going to stand by and shrug off internet " shoplifting " from their stores.
I am a writer, and if my work , which I get paid a living wage for, got repeatedly stolen and shared for free, costing me millions of dollars a year, you can bet I would want someone made an example of.
The " software police " do it all the time. That is one of the major ways of getting back at the company that just fired/laid you off, turn in the IT dept for buying that copy of Vista and then sharing it with 100 other computers, instead of buying 100 licenses. US businesses get fined millions and millions every year.
" She is only a housewife, and it was only 24 songs " Do the math 24 songs = $24 dollars , bet she wishes she had obeyed the law now. The bottom line is, the RIAA tried to settle with her, and she thought that she could use her " I am only a poor housewife " defense in court and the court of public opinion, to get away with her theivery. How is that working out for you ? She could have settled for a $2000 fine like others did but she didn't.
As much as we all hate the music industry, you wouldn't want the night cleaning crew going into your desk at the office and stealing that project you just spent the last 4 months working on, and sharing it with all your competitors , leaving you with nothing and neither does the record industry.
My wife was implying that I might be a little hypocritical the other day when I was chastizing my kids for having limewire on their computers. Since last month I upgraded the five Macs we have to OSX Leopard, that was until I dug out the reciept for the the Family Pack OSX with five user licenses.
So this woman gets charged $80,000 per song for downloading illegally, while Donte Stallworth can run someone down and get a week in jail???
Our legal system is seriously ****ed.
Agree this is the most Ridiculous! Hope they appeal all the way to the Surpreme court the next 2 years...
WTF???
80.000 for a song, but you can buy it for 0.99$, please.
this is the most ridiculous Judgement i've ever heard of

well that woman doesn't look like she had the 2000 usd to pay, also it could have been good that she wouldn't settle for it, if the court had decided in her favour, to show others they should not give in to such blackmail either.

I just noticed this one. well if I was a writer (maybe one day ), and was earning this much (if an amount that is worth millions of dollars gets shared it means your work is very successful) I might just live on happily with the remaining millions. but it is a bit hard to imagine as I'm not in such a situation (i.e. earning this load of money) right now.

denco i agree with what you say, well mostly, but you have to understand when people realise they dont have to follow the ruyles they wont
but i tink its important to have a moral code when i comes to piracy
now before i explain again i do not condone it, im not telling you its clever or cool.
i think piracy on a small scale is fine within boundaries. for instance, i live 50 miles from a cinema that sgow actual films instead crap so if i want to see a movie its not just the admission price or the gas i have to pay its at least £20 on bus or trainfare and that before i get my snackage. i see this as very uneconomical. so i reason im just one person, i dont see anything wrong with downloading a movie especially since ill buy it on dvd anyway
however, any app thats made for pocket pcs i would never pirate due to respect for the creators, and i know how much work goes into the app made.
that may seem a bit hypcritical becuase hard work goes into movies aswell but its not justifiable
basically the new star trek movie is going to make just under 400 million at the box office, so then i dont see anything wrong with having a look now and then buying it mon dvd anyway but for instance i know certain app makers who make app and they spend a lot of time on them and the money will actually make a diference to the development
all in all i like to deal with piracy on a "Cross that bridge when its come to it"
Seriously weak.
This is from my musician point of view: music is for everybody who would like to hear it, you can't put a price on the joy and emotion of music, that someone downloads your songs means that they like your music, and that is way more important then to catch a few bucks if someone buys your stuff.
Stupid music industry, trying to make money out of something all people need.
Money Money Money we still need moar money right?
They are just another maffia.
WTH???
Fined $80.000 for a song cause of downloading illegally??
Well, it's OK to fined someone because of piracy, but $80.000 ??
I can live my life for 20 years (maybe more) with that money...
Most of these musicians wouldn't be as rich as they are if their fans didn't make them what they are today. They are being greedy. END OF STORY. Then on top of that, they are now wanting to "Tax" radio stations everytime they play of their songs... Guess who the front runners are on that?? U2 and Metallica. The same ones that whine about it everytime they don't get paid a royalty, also probably some of the richest musicians in the world.

The entire Encyclopedia Brittannica is banned in Texas because it contains a formula for making beer at home.
"It is legal to commit a homicide as long as you tell the person when, and how you are going to kill them."
made me laugh!!!
"It is illegal to carry a pair of wire-cutters in your back pocket." -- so its legal if you carry them in your front pocket??

"County places obese Cleveland Heights child in foster care"

An 8 year old boy was removed from his home, and his mother stripped of custody over is weight. The child was 200lbs. Has CPS overstepped the boundaries here, or is this justified?
http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/11/obese_cleveland_heights_child.html said:
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- An 8-year-old Cleveland Heights boy was taken from his family and placed in foster care last month after county case workers said his mother wasn't doing enough to control his weight.
At more than 200 pounds, the third-grader is considered severely obese and at risk for developing such diseases as diabetes and hypertension.
But even though the state health department estimates more than 12 percent of third-graders statewide are severely obese -- that could mean 1,380 in Cuyahoga County alone -- this is the first time anyone in the county or the state can recall a child being taken from a parent for a strictly weight-related issue.
The case plays into an emerging national debate that has some urging social-service agencies to step in when parents have failed to address a weight problem.
Others suggest there's hypocrisy in a government that would advocate taking children away for being overweight while saying it's OK to advertise unhealthy food and put toys in fast-food kids' meals.
Cuyahoga County does not have a specific policy on dealing with obese children. It removed the boy because case workers considered this mother's inability to get her son's weight down a form of medical neglect, said Mary Louise Madigan, a spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Family Services.
They said that the child's weight gain was caused by his environment and that the mother wasn't following doctor's orders -- which she disputes.
"This child's problem was so severe that we had to take custody," Madigan said. The agency worked with the mother for more than a year before asking Juvenile Court for custody of the child, she said.
Lawyers for the mother, a substitute elementary school teacher who is also taking vocational school classes, think the county has overreached in this case by arguing that medical conditions the boy is at risk for -- but doesn't yet have -- pose an imminent danger to his health.
They question whether the emotional impact of being yanked from his family, school and friends was also considered.
"I think we would concede that some intervention is appropriate," Juvenile Public Defender Sam Amata said. "But what risk became imminent? When did it become an immediate problem?"
Children are ordinarily removed from their homes for physical abuse, neglect or undernourishment.
Amata said that in his decades as a public defender, he has seen children left in homes with parents who have severe drug problems or who have beaten their children, with the reasoning that there isn't an immediate danger to the child.
In this case, Amata said, other than having a weight problem, the boy was a normal elementary school student who was on the honor roll and participated in school activities.
Records show the child's only current medical problem, sleep apnea, is being treated and that he wears a machine nightly that helps and monitors his breathing.
"They are trying to make it seem like I am unfit, like I don't love my child," the boy's mother said.
"Of course I love him. Of course I want him to lose weight. It's a lifestyle change, and they are trying to make it seem like I am not embracing that. It is very hard, but I am trying."
The mother and the boy are not named in this story because The Plain Dealer does not generally identify those involved in abuse cases.
The mother said that social workers took her son from his school on Oct. 19 and told her she could see him only once a week for two hours. The boy is living in a foster home.
Next month, the two sides will debate the case in front of a Juvenile Court magistrate, who will decide what is in the boy's best interest. A trial is set on the child's 9th birthday.
Rainbow hospital program for kids, families
County workers were alerted to the child's weight in early 2010 after his mother took him to a hospital for breathing problems. He was diagnosed with sleep apnea, which can be weight-related, and was given the breathing machine. Social workers began to monitor him under what the county calls protective supervision.
Last year, the boy lost weight but in recent months began to gain it back rapidly. That's when the county moved to take the child, records show.
The mother said that when she found out that other kids and a sibling might be giving her son extra food, she tried to put a stop to it and explain to him that he could eat only certain foods.
She tried to follow the recommendations of the doctors, such as getting him a bike and encouraging him to get exercise.
The mother wonders what role genetics plays in the boy's condition -- both she and his father and some other family members are overweight, she said. However, she also has a 16-year-old son who is tall and thin.
The mother agreed to enroll the child in a special Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital program called Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight.
That program has evaluated more than 900 overweight and obese children from the ages of 4 to 8 since 2005. A team of specialty doctors, nutritionists, psychologists and others treat the children and work to educate families about creating healthy eating habits.
Dr. Naveen Uli, a pediatric endocrinologist and co-director of the program, said he is seeing more children who are quickly developing diseases that in the past were seen only in adults, like Type 2 diabetes and hypertension. These can affect a person's health, life span and health care costs, he said.
But he said interventions need to be targeted, if possible, for the whole family.
Uli said many families in the program have found it difficult to relearn how to eat, to read and translate confusing food labels and to make the healthy choices. Not all families complete the intense 12-week program, or they are unwilling or unable to grasp the seriousness of the threat, he said.
There is no policy on whether to report obese children to the county if they do not complete the program, but doctors can call if they think the child is at risk.
Uli said most of the children don't require immediate medical intervention but instead need help to prevent them from getting diseases like diabetes.
Uli said that in most cases, he thinks that keeping the family unit intact is better. But if that doesn't work, other interventions have to be derived, he said.
Debate emerges nationally on best ways to intervene
That is precisely what is at the core of a debate that is emerging nationally in the discussions about childhood obesity.
Earlier this year, Dr. David Ludwig, Harvard University professor and pediatric obesity expert, urged children's services agencies to intervene in severe cases when parents have failed to address a weight problem that leads to imminent health risks.
Ludwig, the co-author of an article that appeared in the Journal of American Medical Association this summer, said other interventions should be tried first and that children should be removed only as a last resort.
The article cited the example of a 12-year-old patient of Ludwig's who weighed 400 pounds and had developed diabetes, cholesterol problems, high blood pressure and sleep apnea -- conditions that could kill her before the age of 30.
But others question whether a future risk is enough to separate a child from a family.
Arthur Caplan, a professor of bioethics and medical ethics at the University of Pennsylvania, said that before a trend of removing children takes hold, the broader public-policy issue needs to be explored.
"A 218-pound 8-year-old is a time bomb," Caplan acknowledged. "But the government cannot raise these children. A third of kids are fat. We aren't going to move them all to foster care. We can't afford it, and I'm not sure there are enough foster parents to do it. "
He said he is worried that the families with the fewest resources, which are often minorities, will end up being ones with their children removed.
Caplan said one could get ethical whiplash in a world where one arm of government is so concerned about a child's weight that it removes him from his home, while another branch of government argues that french fries and tomato paste on pizza should be counted as servings of vegetables.
"It's completely hypocritical, or to put it another way, a schizophrenic stance," he said.
"It's OK to threaten to take a kid away or charge someone more for insurance," he said. "But it's also OK to advertise unhealthy food and put toys in kids' meals."
In the Cleveland Heights case, county workers believed that disconnecting the boy from his family, at least temporarily, might help. And he has lost a few pounds in the last month.
But now lawyers for the mother say they've been told that the foster mother who has the child in a neighboring suburb is having trouble keeping up with all of his appointments.
There was even a discussion about getting the foster mother additional help or moving the child again, this time to a foster home with a personal trainer, Amata said.
"I wonder why they didn't offer the mother that kind of extra help," Amata said.

Lack of education is the real issue. The kid should have been sent to a 'Fat Camp' and the mother sentenced to Community Service and Counselling.
Only an admin can change polls. PM MikeChannon.
As for the article, CPS was right to take the kid. I mean 200 punds at 8 years old. I'm 20 and never reached 200 lbs, most I think was like 188. And genetics my ass. Also many of them say its a disease. What's the name, hunger?
The artcile says "The mother agreed to enroll the child in a special Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital program called Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight", and also "She tried to follow the recommendations of the doctors, such as getting him a bike and encouraging him to get exercise." No where did the article indicate that she was not cooperating with CPS or coordinating with dr's to help the kid lose the weight.
While I do not see CPS removing a child from a home in these situations as a protecting act it is a very grey matter. If the mom had agreed to such programs its hard to say this instance was justified unless theres is some proof she is neglecting the childs health behind closed doors, which isnt clear here as shes been taking him to see doctors on the matter. But than you also have to remember that you dont get to 200 lbs at 8yrs old by siblings sneaking you snacks...

Uncle Ben's smartphone

Hoping to boost profits by cutting into the valuable market share currently occupied by Apple's popular iPhone 4S, top American rice manufacturer Uncle Ben’s announced plans Tuesday to release its first-ever smartphone.
Uncle Ben's, a company traditionally known for producing white, whole-grain brown, and flavored rices, confirmed a Nov. 23 launch date for its new "Basmati" phone, a 4G-capable device expected to serve as the brand’s flagship product as the company makes its entry into the lucrative mobile technology sector.
"Whether it's instant rice, country-style rice, boil-in-a-bag rice, or smartphones, Uncle Ben’s has always been committed to innovation," a statement from the company read in part. "In 1942, we introduced the world to easy-to-cook parboiled rice. Today, we wish to introduce you to a new vision, one in which people can cook up some Uncle Ben's on the stove and, at the same time, be on their Basmati browsing our marketplace for some new apps and texting their friends with our Instant Rice Messenger."
"Our customer base is increasingly young, connected, and on the go," the statement continued, "and we're uniquely positioned to become the only company in America to simultaneously offer international phone service, Internet access, GPS, broccoli rice au gratin, and MP3 downloads of top recording artists."
As first reported by TechCrunch and the USA Rice Council, the Basmati will feature a 5.3-inch
Traditionally, the Uncle Ben’s company has been
display with a density of 285 pixels per inch, a dual-core 1.5 gigahertz processor, and two gigabytes of RAM, as well as a "robust set of entertainment features" that includes a rear-mounted 8-megapixel autofocus camera, dozens of preloaded stir-fry recipes, and Adobe Flash
In addition, the Basmati will run on Uncle Ben’s proprietary Long-Grain Operating System, a platform designed to optimize graphics performance and speed using processes that, according to technical specifications released by the rice producer, "are
"Uncle Ben's is a name Americans already know and trust," said company president Vincent Howell, adding that he hopes the Basmati will become the iPhone’s foremost competitor within three years. "When they see that face smiling up at them, they'll know they picked the right phone. It's time for us to build on Uncle Ben's success, and that means making a run at Apple. Amazon, Google—they're all in the game here, and if we don't get on this, we'll be left behind. Right now those guys are eating our lunch.”
"We have the brand recognition," the president of the rice company added. "So let's capitalize on it with this
Many at the company expressed a like-minded confidence in the project, with one board member enthusiastically saying, “I think people are going to like an Uncle Ben’s phone even if they don’t like rice all that much.” Executives noted that their marketplace was rapidly changing, and whether they liked it or not, they would have to change with it.
"Rice just isn't going to cut it anymore," said Tim Snyder, Uncle Ben's vice president of marketing. "If we don't get a smartphone on the market soon, we’ll have nothing to offer the millions of consumers out there who are eager to shell out hundreds of dollars for the latest high-tech gadget, but who—let's face it—aren't nearly that enthusiastic about rice."
