CDMA with other carriers different than Verizone - Motorola Droid 4

I got a D4 rooted with ICS .213 leak. GSM works prefectly, but CDMA doesnt. When i turn to CDMA/LTE mode, I got not signal. Is this realted that phone is locked?
Also, when in GSM and i tryp *228, i got a leyen that "SIM is not recognized".
My question is, is this all get fixed unlocking phone? I've already ordered unlock code, only to be sure what to scpect.
Carrier is IUSACELL, from Mexico.
Regads,

have you tried using the global setting found? or is that what youre referring to when you say gsm?

I did try both global mode and gsm/utms

I have not yet read of anyone activating a Droid 4 with a CDMA-only carrier. *228 does nothing as all of the necessary information is on the SIM card.

Using on Other Carriers(GSM)

I am a n00b in the subject of unlocking phones to use on other networks etc.
Is there a possibility when the SPL is unlocked that we could use this on any GSM network since it is a 'world' capable phone with the GSM radio and a SIM card?
I have used a lot of WINMO phone son VZW and I flash and unlock quite often. Just had no idea how this process worked. sorry if this is a duplicate of any kind
thank you
You can call Verizon and ask them for the unlock code to your phone. The number is 1-800-711-8300, option 2 I believe. Either way you'll end up talking to a human who can do that for you. Then you'll enter the code (code A) in All Settings > Personal > Security. According to others, this unlock on the SIM will remain, even after flashing with a custom ROM.
no software to unlock the sim card, i don't want to call vz
I can buy unlock code for Imagio.
Why dont you want to call verizon? They are perfectly happy to unlock the sim for you as long as you dont have any problems with your account like delinquent payments. I called and had both of my phones unlocked in minutes and tested my ATT sim card, worked great on the aTT network
GSM 3G on america?

Did you see if you had E or 3G or H?
I've looked at the specs but haven't found the GSM 3G bands that it has.
Just this:
Digital Dual (CDMA,PCS) /1X, EVDO /Rev.A <---- perfectly clear
GSM Quad Band (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) <---- perfectly clear
WCDMA / HSDPA / HSUPA <---- not clear if it has 850mhz here
I guess it doesn't have 3G in 850mhz but I still have hopes.
Regards!
I only get "E" - my SIM is 3G capable, but the corporate plan is text-only. In other words, I can't say for certain if it will get 3G speeds. HSDPA is available here in the US, so it should be possible for an Imagio to have 3G in the States.
I called yesterday, told them I would be going overseas, they gave me the unlock code. Simple as pie. I can use my neighbor's AT&T sim card without any issues minus stuff that is Verizon specific.
The SIM unlock was easy and successful. Just call Verizon at the above number and its a done deal in 30 seconds. Will try my wife's SIM in it later.....woohoo....
because i dont have vz wireless phone number, but i need to use the t-moible or at&t, i call them, but they need me vz wireless phone number... i dont have, they not unlock for me
as i was told u are able to get it unlocked verizon will do it if ur account is 3months old and in good standing... also as far as using it on gsm not sure as of yet but will say tmobile basic signal i E in an area where out of ur basic ntwork jumpin off of another tower it will put u on H or even G but there is no 3G

H is HSDPA, which is 3.5G (faster than 3G... 7.2mbps compared to 1.5 mbps or something like that)
Edge is like 0.3 mbps and GPRS like 0.1
not really sure, but you get the idea.
Here in Mexico we have HSDPA but never get above 2mbps, at nights we do peak at 3mbps but avarage is still at much 2mbps.
Did I do something wrong?
I told them I was going over seas, I gave them my sim number and they said I was all set to go over there. Does this mean my phone is unlocked, I didn't have to put in any numbers. I will hate myself if I said the wrong thing. And if I did it right then how do I switch between sim cards and cdma?
For you phone to be unlocked they would have to give you a number to enter.
To switch between sim and cdma, go to settings -> phone -> network and change it from global mode to GSM

Not true, works fine with t mobile and at&t, didn't enter any numbers did it all from their, weird, but whatever.
I think a few things from the last three posts need clarification:
1. When you call VZW Global Support, they should have given a security code to unlock the SIM. It is a string of numbers. It is not a phone number.
2. Once the SIM is unlocked, if a SIM is present in the phone, there is no guarantee that switching back from GSM/UMTS to Global will switch the phone back to CDMA. There have been times where I've done that, and the phone has stayed on AT&T (my employer uses AT&T). I think a better method is to use either CDMA or GSM/UMTS, and to avoid the Global setting completely.

On item number 1 I would agree with you ignore my experience because even my friend who unlocks all kinds of phones for metro says it is a weird case. I have never received any unlcock cod yet it says "sim security unlocked" probably will be screwed up if I ever want to flash or reset it but whatever.
On number 2 I can't agree with you because I bought an at&t go card just for sh**ts and giggles and I have no problems, infact I can switch between the two while the phone is on, done many tests. But if anyone else experiences this issue I would like to know.
I have never heard an unlock like that. But could be... like an 'on air update'... Most times is a code or the frown upon methods (connect it to a PC or a box).
If any one wants to know, no it does not have GSM 3G for 850mhz band, not 3G with ATT and others in the world that uses that band. Tested it myself.

Even if you run at&t 3g it is much slower than verizon's. Either that or safari renders slower than s**t on brother's Icrap 3g. T mobile's is faster if you can find their 3g coverage, good luck.
PS I am still looking for internet connection settings for tmobile as I sold an unlocked imagio to my buddy and he can't get the data connection working.
does anyone ever solve de 3G problem with the 850 MHZ band... I live in Venezuela use movistar i ve the imagio sim unlocked can´t get 3G due to band restriction

If you want a brick, go ahead and flash a GSM ROM.
In seriousness, what have you tried? You should be able to switch the phone's network mode under Settings -> Mobile Data -> Network Mode. For AT&T, you'd probably what GSM/UTMS only. Failing that, you can try dialing *#*#4636#*#* and under Phone Info, changing the network mode there to something with GSM. No guarantee that those settings will stick across a reboot though.
Still nothing

Thanks for the reply, I know I could brick my phone so I havent tried a GSM rom. But i have tried all the settings that you stated above and nothing sems to work. My HTC does read the NET10 sim I put in but just wont pick up the network. I am thinking a few things that either the Sprint RUU I am running does not allow the phone to pick up other networks, or maybe the band frequencies are not installed only CDMA. Or maybe the option to choose GSM may be locked somehow on the phone and maybe needs to be unlocked. These are only guesses thought. I do know for sure that the phone does give me options to choose gsm, lte, cdma and more but when choosing it does not get signal only CDMA. I even tried choosing other radio band frequencies with no luck. There has to be a way.
Is it possible to flash GSM radio bands without messing anything up? Not sure thats why I am asking. Or is there a sprint ruu that includes GSM bands.
Please help if you can.

Wait, you're not sure if you're SIM-unlocked? Your phone should be capable of picking these things up by default; you could talk to Sprint cusotmer service and see if the phone's global mode has been enabled.
Yes

Yeah my phone is Sim Unlocked, Super Cid, and rooted. It does read other sims but wont pick up other networks such as GSM. This really does suck. I cant call Sprint because I got the phone off of someone who no longer has Sprint and their contract was never finished. So I Sim Unlocked it myself.
My Conclusion
I come to beleave that it is not possible to have a Sprint HTC One work on any other networks except theirs. I have tried every possbile solution that this site has to offer and nothing. It also seems to me that no one has come up with a soultion either. I have searched everywhere and no one has a strait forward answer. All that I can get it to do is recognize other sims once sim unlocked, but whats the point if you cant get it to pick up other networks such as GSM.

You have to enable domestic roaming and turn roaming guards off. Than go to network and select the network operator MANUALLY. This way it'll work, but it was stated by some users that you'll loose signal from time to time and will have to redo the process again (select network manually)

Will try thanks.

Hi, i have "exact" same issue taht the OP, but i live in Colombia, south america, well. my phone is S-off, unlocked, rooted and sim unlock, 4.1.2 version... but:
after make the omadm proces and restart, go to phone mode, and cannot stick stick in GSM, any variant (only gsm, wcdma prefered, only, gsm prl), nothing, only with GSM that sticks is "lte, gsm, wcdma", but no found networks (tried with 3 different sim cards carriers here in my country... nothing, repeat, before make the sim unlock process...

I feel that way about locking onto AT&T.. or connecting at all for that matter. But I HAVE used T-mobile for about 4 months, albeit losing the signal, and having to re-register from time to time. you can make it work. in *#*#4636#*#* go with WCDMA preferred.. 800Mhz freq.. I wasn't even s-off when I was making it work..so obviously no SuperCID either.. i have since obtained both, and STILL cannot connect to AT&T.. the Network Selections are just greyed out...
Hello, I have a Sprint HTC One running perfectly on a GSM company, called Telcel here in México. Recently I wiped everything and started again, and with the stock rom (Sense 6 4.4.2) I wasn't able to choose the GSM mode, I was stuck on CDMA mode without service, until I flashed again the latest firmware (5.09.451 or something like that), and all the problems were solved, currently I'm running ViperOne rom for the sprint variant, with the latest firmware and everything is perfect, hope this help.

First is the unlock process, to do that you first should install a 4.2 RUU, then unlock the device company. After, root and install a recovery, flash the ROM that you want, and flash the required firmware, depending of the version of android. That's all, if you want more help add me on skype, I speak spanish.
Good luck.

[Q] VZW DE: does boot unlocked imply SIM unlocked ??

I've got a an unlocked rooted VZW DE. I'm going to Europe. Is the phone SIM unlocked ?? Can I just insert a European sim card ?
IOW, does an unlocked bootloader also unlock the sim card ? Or do I have to spend an hour talking to Verizon?
Thanks,
sean
After talking with VZW, they tell me the phone comes SIM inlocked! Interesting if true. I'll find out next week.
sean
Any Verizon LTE phone should automatically be sim unlocked without the bootloader being unlocked due to Block C agreements requiring Verizon to allow any compatible phone to use the network. Since LTE is basically the evolution of GSM, most (I won't say all, because there may be an exception) LTE devices have GSM capabilities. Verizon can't legally sim lock the LTE radios, so they have just stopped sim locking global phones.
tl;dr Yes, it is by default sim unlicked. Just throw in the sim and update apn settings if necessary (they may be preprogrammed). You probably won't have LTE, but HSPA (and, I assume, HSPA+) should work fine.
Edit: I just reread and realized that you had updated the post with what I just said... You can ignore this.
No. I appreciate the background. And really pleased it confirmed what Verizon said.
Is there a list someplace of the APN s for French providers? I can just imagine trying to find it out from the kiosk manager using my French!
Sean
Sent from my XT1060 using XDA Free mobile app
I think they may have that information on the provider's website. You may want/need to plan ahead to determine what carriers are there (which you probably know already) and check out their sites, or you can probably Google '[Carrier Name] apn settings' and find it that way. I've never been in a situation to change the apn settings, but I think once you insert the new sim, the setting is available under Settings > Wireless and Networks > More... > Mobile Network Settings > Access Point Names.

[Q] Unlocked Moto X on Telus/Koodo Issues

Hi I bought an unlocked, Verizon branded Moto X Developer Edition which I intended to use on Koodo in Canada, which runs on the Telus network. When I put my sim card in it has trouble connecting to the network. It connects for a couple of minutes, and then loses the signal for a couple minutes, then picks it up again and so on. It's like it is connecting to cell towers other than Koodo/Telus and cant use them.
I have tested the sim card in another phone and it is fine. I have spent a significant amount of time with Koodo customer support and it has become obvious the problem is with the phone. It doesn't matter if I have it set to global or LTE/GSM and connect to Koodo that way, both have the same result.
Has anybody run into a similar problem? I absolutely love the phone and would hate to find out that I can't use it. I live in London, Ontario and shouldn't have any issues with coverage.
Thanks
I have The exact same problem with a moto X from ATT trying it on Koodo. Maybe flashing the Telus rom or dev rom on it could work. Mine is in 4.4.4 with ATT so I can't unlock the boot loader to do that but maybe you can...

Have you tried manually entering the APN settings?
The Verizon XT1060 (Dev Edition, or non-Dev Edition) is SIM unlocked out of the box. So forcing to GSM mode should work, as long as the APN settings are right.
As a side note, to use a T-Mobile USA Sim, I've had to manually enter the APN settings on my Dev Ed VZW X.

Can my unlocked T-Mobile G6 work on my Verizon network???

I recently bought a supposedly unlocked T-Mobile LG G6, but somehow my Verizon SIM card isn't working on it. The previous owner installed the T-Mobile unlock app and successfully unlocked it, so I'm really just not understanding what's going on. I tried to do a factory reset and restart the phone with my new SIM, tried to unlock it again (it says it's already permanently unlocked), etc. Help/advice would be much appreciated!!
is the VZW sim card already activated?
did you try using TMO sim card and see if its working with that?
try with LTE only mode with VZW.
Your tmobile branded G6 might not have all the CDMA bands to work with Verizon.
Verizon still uses CDMA.
If the phone is really unlocked, it will work on AT&T, Crickett, T-Mobile and most GSM networks.
