For the OP, who appears to be in South Korea, yes. But it's not *fully* supported as the phone will not work on USA-based GSM carriers such as AT&T.
This may be a concern if the OP plans to travel to the USA.

Apparently they now carry 4G SIM cards to allow access to their LTE network (see here). The details are a little sketchy, though, and I wouldn't bank on it working.
If you're really interested in doing this, I would suggest going directly to a Verizon store and speaking with someone there. Maybe even see if they'll let you test it out (probably not, but it can't hurt to ask).
The only other Verizon sim cards I found were international ones that allowed roaming on Vodafone's network. Since Verizon in the US uses CDMA for its non-4G network, SIM cards don't work. With a non-4G SIM card you would end up piggybacking on some other carrier's network.
That's my understanding, anyway.
Okay I have a droid incredible 2 it got damaged but it has a sim card its not 4g either so yeah

That's one of the international sim cards, which basically just lets it hop on GSM networks internationally when it doesn't have Verizon's US CDMA network.
So you mean its not possible
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I can't say for certain. You would need to talk to someone at Verizon and ask them if their international GSM sim cards work here in the states.
My guess is that they'll tell you it will work, but since you would be essentially roaming all the time you're using it, it would be either costly or they wouldn't do it. Again, I'm not a Verizon employee, so I can't say that's 100% accurate, but that's my gut reaction.
Yeah ok makes sence my incredible 2 can only go into safe mode thats why I ask this

Unfortunately verizon does not like you to be able to use at&t on there global phones so afaik there's no way to make it work.
So i'm travelling to the states for 5 days and someone suggested to me instead of paying for a bunch of roaming add-ons from Bell, i may be better off to unlock my phone and get a sim card on a pay as you go plan. Is this possible and more importantly is it worth it?
Any advice is appreciated
I would personally bite the bullet. It'll probably cost you about $20 to unlock the phone and then you will have to get an AT&T SIM card or pay as you go, probably won't have data on it, etc etc... Last time I went down to the US I spent about $50 on roaming. You're only down there for 5 days, how much time do u want to spend screwing with your phone?
Another thing you could do is turn on airplane mode but keep the wifi turn on, and get a google voice number. Pair that with GrooVe IP, and you have a $5 wi-fi only solution.
The data is what I'm more interested in. My phone will double as my GPS unit, and Google search to find stuff to do. Bell charges 30 bucks for 10 MB.
I'm probably gonna e doing 4-5 trips a year to the states, on a pay as you go I could probably just reload everytime I go down, once I have the sim

Just go to Crackberry, go to the SIM unlocking section, find a site that allows you to unlock for free, then yeah T-Mobile has prepaid service, or maybe AT&T I don't know. Anyway, you get the idea.

Stanley,
AFIAK the 3G frequencies used by T-Mobile is AWS, which the XT860 is not compatible with.
Hey guys sorry just a quick question...
Would the Bell XT860 work on Rogers/Fido once it was unlocked? Has anyone actually tried it?
The reason I ask is because I've read that apparently the Verizon Droid 3 was not compatible with Fido/Rogers even after being unlocked.
Thanks
Bell XT860 definitely works on Rogers when unlocked. I'm using one right now on Rogers. (Just running the Chinese ME863 ROM on it right now). When i was on the stock Bell ROM it also worked fine.

I know nothing about this stuff, but google search tells me that t-mobile uses 1900 MHz GSM and 2100MHz UMTS which are both supported by the xt860. They also support HSPA+
does this not mean the xt860 should work on t-mobile?
The phone would need the phone to support the 1700mhz band as well.

Hey fireeater,
I just ordered an XT883 that will be unlocked and will be used with my T-mobile sim. T-Mobile uses 1700 & 2100 for their 3g while AT&T uses 850/1900. Do you know if the agreement between AT&T and T-mobile will allow the XT883 to get 3g with t-mobile?
Tmobile is refarming their 3g. So you will get 3g by the end of the year.

I'm a Chinese Student study in the U.S. right now.
I Just bought a second hand Verizon Droid 3. I bought a SIM unlock code, and flashed the xt883 Chinese ROM(57.1.40 first then update to 57.1.60). I typed *#*#2468#*#* for unlocking gsm network.
However, I found out I can't get 3G but only EDGE!!!!!!!!
i'm using t-mobile. I checked that the wcdma band is 2100 and I think xt862 support that right?
Any idea?

Almost the answer I was looking for.
So could someone confirm this:
Bad esn doesn't affect calling via a SIMcard?
I know it's a very old thread, but worth trying..
ESN's and IMEI numbers are used for GSM phones(AT&T, T-Mobile and now Verizon also). MEID numbers are used with CDMA phones(Verizon,Sprint) and just because the phone has ics or jb doesn't mean it's unlocked. You still have to install a different sim card and put in an unlock code which you can get from Verizon if you are with them or pay for it online somewhere. Once the new sim card is installed into phone and the unlock code is entered, the phone will state that your device has been unlocked. Unlocking phones is mainly for overseas use outside of the US. I have much experience with this as I served in the U.S. military for 10 years and I took my old phone over with me. Upon arrival in the new country, you set up cell service with a GSM provider, install their sim card and viola! Hope I could clear this up for you guys! Not trying to sound mean, just informative.
EDIT: Bad ESN's or MEID's can be a bad thing but some can be changed or flashed over with new one's from third party service providers like PagePlus Cellular, etc.

The unlocking and radio flashing do different things. You have to either get an unlock code from Verizon or from a site like www.unlock4moto.com to be able to use a 3rd party SIM card. The radio flash is only necessary to use the phone on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US, but still requires the phone to be unlocked via one of the methods mentioned above.
Just get an unlock code from unlock4moto.com and don't worry about it. But Verizon does do unlock codes if you call tech support and have been in good standing and not had an unlock in the last 10 months.
thanks!

I just bought my friends Verizon Droid 3 XT862 because his contract was up and he switched carriers. It still has the verizon sim card in it. I'm planning on just using it with wifi and not as a phone at all. I want to unlock, root and install a custom ROM. I'm looking at getting the IMEI unlock code mentioned above. What should I do with that sim card? I read something about needing a foreign sim card?
Get any AT&T/T-Mobile SIM and it should unlock as well. It may say it failed if you haven't flashed the 883 build.prop and radio but it will work. If you have a buddy on any GSM service just borrow their SIM.

Thanks MrObvious. So once I unlock it with another SIM, I can just remove that SIM and the "phone" will always work as a "device" just fine without any SIM installed if I don't need cell service/3G?

It should work fine. One thing you can do is do a Safestrap backup of everything and SBF but I think a Verizon based ROM should do fine.
