So I got my Nexus 7 in the mail last week and the first thing I did (naturally) as try to install DOS on it and play MOO2. I went with aDOSBOX and after messing around for a bit was able to successfully mount a folder and get everything loaded successfully. Great results thus far.
Here's where I'm getting stuck. Performance. I know my Nexus is a rocking some pretty solid hardware, but the DOS emulator is really doggy. Any suggestions? Is aDOSBOX not a good choice? Are there some settings I'm missing? I've seen some great setups online thus far but nothing detailed enough for me to replicate.
I suggest dosbox turbo, running commander keen, raptor, tyrian, and a few other games with it, it works nicely.
Just make sure under the dosbox settings to set the memory size to max, and the frame skip to 0, runs nice and smooth.

I don't think the vogue is gonna be able to run this very well.
aww..
I was hoping to see some magic..
I guess it's too much for our good old Vogue...?
Are you running SD or nand? Nand is much more likely to work.

ive been testing this all day with different settings, games, and overclocks. Our phone just isnt good enough for this. Ive tried gran turismo, mortal kombat, tekken, nfs ect... Nothing is good enough performance wise to play. Ill stick with my epsxe for pc. Works great.
Will spb work on the xoom?
That would be sweet!!

No, it says "device not supported" after it flashes the desktop for a second.
Looks good for that split second though.
Pretty sick interface, might grab it for tmy Thunderbolt

Despite the missing options (which I'm sure will come eventually) I loved it on my thunder bolt. I had to uninstall though as it was raping my already fragile battery.
Looking forward to running it on my xoom though and hopefully my tbolt again if they can make it suck less juice.

Thanks, I will probably reconsider the purchase. Love the bolt but the battery could be better.
Did you guys not install it from the market, or did you just ignore the release notes? It states that tablets aren't supported.
Thats wierd. I see no changes in battery life with SPB launcher on my NexusS running CM7 rom.

I have SPB shell for my DroidX and I can verify that it does not install on my Xoom. I tried side loading and adb install and both times the installation failed. I think the 3D shell would look great on the Xoom but overall, I find the functionality pretty poor compared to the free launchers out there. I bought it on an impulse and I'll keep it in case a tablet version is released but once you start to configure it, it really is lacking in functionality.
It seems to be working on mine...
I didn't install from the market and I will send the apk if you want.
I loaded it on my N1 last night and it promptly quit working after it couldn't find a market purchase, so disable all data before installing the apk. Supposedly the app checks the market every hour until it can confirm a receipt, and I heard there is a command line you can send via adb to disable it from further checking, but I haven't seen it yet.
I heard that it is horrible. Lags and no scrollable widgets?
The widgets worked fine for me, but the graphics sucked ass. It just doesn't flow as smoothly as I wanted. Even SPB MS 3.5 on my Rhodium is smoother!
yeah I just tried the newer version on my zoom and it does work. Not very good though. Wallpaper is horribly pixelated as are the Widgets. Animations aren't smooth and no landscape amongst other issues. Hopefully they release a honeycomb version at some point.
Well let's see if their Tablet UI concept materializes in the not too distant future.
Now this is something I may pay for.

Damn that's awesome. The pinching home screen would be real slick!
It looked slick over a year ago for Android Phones (the one just released) as well and it does not seem to deliver. It is easy to make an animation of what you would like something to be. Not trying to be negative but I have already seen this before with the Android Phones version long ago. I used SPB Mobile shell on Windows Mobile and it was awesome. But I do not think they are getting it with Android.
Thread cleaned up. Please do not advocate or ask for warez, or it will result in an infraction or ban. Thank you,

did anybody got this working on they tablet, i going crazy to get it on my phone there is the tablet option.
SPB on Xoom
I purchased 1.5.1 for my HTC Desire, and, of course, attempted to install on my Xoom. No go. Install worked fine, but wouldn't home switch.
I had, however, previously installed a 1.2.?, and it worked great, until I had to hit home button again, in which case it wouldn't allow me to select SPB as my launcher. I have to say, the outlay was fantastic, along with the eye candy and the overall slickness of it. It was great.
I REALLY hope they mod this for the tablets!
I can't remember how I got this to work but it wasn't easy and it looked lame... has to be default launcher.. prepare for some soft bricks.
Sent from my Full Android on Wingray using xda premium
Yes, it works beautifully. To use it you have to have it on phone first, backup app in astro, and then put the apk on your Xoom. The latest version (1.5.1) works more smoothly than stock.

I'm aware that the game compatibility thread covers emulation.
But I thought I'd make a thread to specifically discuss playstation emulation.
I downloaded psx4droid 3.0.0 from the dev site, but it doesn't work on my Xoom, just closes when I open an iso, and says running in the task bar. But doesn't do anything. If you click on it, it closes.
A google search says that 3.0.1 is available, but their site seems to be down at the moment.
I tried FPse, with changing the settings. It worked. But the set to small screen doesn't stick. Have to reset it each time.
And I can't get the wii controller to work with it.
Anyone have any luck?
Found a download for psx4droid 3.0.1 from an alternate source, because zodttd still seems to be down. And the problem is the same. Assign a bios file, have 2 different ones, and then launch an iso or bin file and the app closes and a message comes up in the task bar at the bottom, if you click on it, it brings you back to iso selection.
Well im glad I'm not the only one.. thought maybe it was a bad game file
Yea, this is going to be hard for zodttd because he even stated himself on his site that he doesn't have the new latest android devices so he is doing the best he can with what he has...which to be honest I am amazed he is even still working on it after it got taken off the market.
Oh, and p.s. his site seems to be back up for now: http://www.zodttd.com/wp/
I use FPSE. In landscape, full screen with screen filtering and the enhanced sound emulation at 0 frameskip I play Mortal kombat mythologies, trilogy, and castlevania symphony of the night at full speed no problem. overclocked 1.5 ghz.
I've also got the same problem with psx4droid. I'm gonna try fpse right now.

All you have to do with FPSE and the screen size issue is tab out and tab right back in. It is a minor bug that the developer will hopefully address soon.
You will only have to do this once when loading the emulator.
Also make sure you have HLE mode disabled if you are intending to use the emulator with a proper BIOS.
FPSE isn't as polished overall as psx4droid, but I have found it to handle games a little better. I couldn't get past the first Quistis cutscene of FF8 with psx4droid but maybe this has been corrected now.
I have both psx4droid(only rom tested was metal gear solid) and fpse working on my xoom. I disabled compatibility in spare parts if that may affect it.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
FPse for Android is a really solid Playstation Emulator. Its a paint to get started since the Roms arn't 4MB like N64 and Snes . But once you get through that its very enjoyable.
I also use FPse with the wiimote controller.
Makesure you set the wiimote to the active input keyboard, or it wont work in fpse.
Just checked the site and they've released 3.0.5. It specifically states it's compatible with the Xoom. I installed it and i'm trying it out now.
Yeah...still doesn't work...
fpse doesn't work for me at all...any attempt to disable HLE mode just results in a force close for the next action I attempt, and games won't run with it on either, so I'm kinda stuck. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm running fpse v0.10.39.
Edit: Actually, nevermind. I updated to 10.41 and it's great now, but I can't get that custom overlay working. What am I doing wrong...
Looks like I'm grabbing a classic controller and loading up some metal gear solid for my lunch breaks ha

Yea, version 3 doesn't work on the Xoom. However, psx4droid v2 1.1.2 works flawlessly. Ask Google for help finding it. I'm on disk 3 of Final Fantasy IX

FPSe (latest version) is running pretty smoothly on my Xoom; tested it with Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 and I'm getting pretty good performance .
Using 0.10.43 and BIOS scph1001
Streetfighter collection and wipeout running well. Just wish they'd boost the resolution a bit for the new tablets. Or correct me if I'm wrong but this is def lower res than a ps1, isn't it?
Sent from my MZ604 using Tapatalk
i'm not too sure about the resolution. You can turn on graphics filtering but tends to lag the crap out of some games. I think it mostly looks the way it should though. PS1 games were very jaggy, even the sprite based ones.
Maybe it's just a Rose tinted view of the past which is making me remember better graphics in wipeout? Man I must have spent a whole year of uni playing that damn game!!

there's a lot of games I think that too.... some of them you think 'wow that was cutting edge........ at the time' and now look pretty poor...
shame
Just seeing if anyone else out there has gotten shadowgun to run on their nexus s 4g? Im using CF3D and got it to install and play the opening video then when it comes to the loading screen after it closes right back to my homescreen. I have read people are getting it to work on the nexus s but i dont ever see them talk about how, i didn't know if there were special settings you had to set the cf3d to or what, any help would be appreciated. thanks!
*EDIT*
never mind,
Enable the following in per app settings in chain fire 3d:
Reduce texture quality (this ones optional) - This reduce texture to 16 bit color (I disabled this and game still ran and more detail in graphics)
Reduce texture size - this downscale textures
Disable MapBuffer emu - may make some games work
Use NVidia Plugin
games working great, its freaking sick i recommend everyone go buy this right now.
How did you download it? mine gets stuck @ 25% everytime =/
mine runs well

But how did you guys get it to download past 25% mine just stops and goes back to home screen on my nexus
Same thing here, but kept trying and got it. Took forever though
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
well first of all if you are running a pirated copy then thats most likely your problem there, i tried and tried to get one of the pirated versions to work and it would never finish downloading 100% i eventually broke down and purchased it and only had to restart the download once, make sure you use wifi it helps out.
... I do not condone pirating anything this is just something i do to make sure the game will run right on my phone and that i will actually enjoy it, especially if they cost as much as shadowgun. If i like them i ALWAYS buy them.
Finally mine arrived.
After one day of use, I find it better than iPad for me.
I use it for typing notes and reading ebooks.
Unlike iPad which needs iTunes and corresponding apps, all I have to do is to copy pdfs into it and install my favorite TouchPal keyboard.
Everything works smoothly. And I can bring it around easily with one palm.
For those who are still hesitate, I do recommend this one, if your needs are like mine.
