White spot on Nexus 7's screen (uk) Help! - Nexus 7 General

Hi there,
Pre ordered the 7 from Currys, UK and received it last Fri. I was very happy with it until now.
I have attached some pics below. It is very hard to see the white spot in the pics but it is very bright and noticeable to the naked eyes.
By using the display test app I cannot see the dot only on the black screen but for other colour backgrounds it is very noticeable. :crying:
I really do not know whether it is just a defect screen/unit, or there are some apps etc causing it which I can fix it independently.
I already unlocked and rooted my 7 through the Nexus root toolkit 1.52 and using TWRP for backup.
My questions: Is that possible for me to fix the white spot myself?
Can I still return it to Currys even though I have already used it for 7 days, with only 1 white spot on screen?
Is that possible for me to unroot and locking my 7 again using the same toolkit in order to return it to Currys for exchange?
Currys return policy: Within 7 days or 28 days?
Return it to the local store or have to call Currys up and then posting it back?
Or should I just keep it and ignoring the white spot........
Thank you
:good:

Take it to the store, just a screen defect.

Thank you!!! Do I then need to unroot and locking up the 7 before reaching Currys?- can I using the same software to do them?? Thank you in advance!

Curries return policy is 21 days if it's a fault so just return it, make sure you unroot as your warranty is slightly void at this point...

broken camera and 2 dead pixels out of the box

I received my shipment today.
The very first thing I did after signing in was update the system to 4.1.1.
After playing for a few minutes I noticed a dead or stuck pixel on the right side of the screen. I ran the display test app and found another dead pixel in the middle of the screen.
I tried the camera with Google hangouts and Skype and all I get is garbled green signal. Using the nexus 7 camera launched yielded the same result.
Doing a full factory reset did not fix the problems.
Needless to say this going back. I'm disappointed that this excellent device is having these quality issues.
I have a single dead pixel on the very edge. It's only visible on a completely black screen so I'm gonna live with it.
Good luck with your return.

I would recommend you get it exchanged. At the end of the day its still a defect. Maybe wait a little while so they have more stock to ship another one.

I got mine from staples so I'll have to deal with them. I'll wait until they have stock.

They have a little thing in the booklet. I think its referring to dead pixels. It was kind of confusing tho

Nexus 7 Replacement

Just received an email from Google Play about my replacement. Didn't see any similar threads pop up but just in case, here is some info for anyone who wants to get theirs replaced:
http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=ts.cs&ts=2693239&from=2693239&rd=1
I literally filled that out yesterday and got my UPS return label, RMA slip, and replacement cart link a about 10 minutes ago. They want the old device back within 21 days and put a $249 authorization hold on your card until they receive it. They have a shopping cart setup for you so you just click the link and place the replacement order.
Sorry if this is a duplicate, mods can take this down if they want.

That thread gives no useful information on a RMA order, it just talks about those who already or are going to replace.
Yea, the turn arounds are getting faster and faster. My first replacement took a week. My second, half that. Hopefully, I don't have to see how long a third takes...
I got the email to order replacement twice. Just clicked on link in one email but curious if people got it twice too.

Are they shipping these expedited or the same method as a brand new order? And was the second replacement for the same issue? Cause that scares me, haha.
Edit: Looked through the post linked above. Guess some got it over a couple days some a little longer. Oh well as long as its coming!
After i got the UPS label, what should i do with the old N7?

Just an update. Got my replacement tablet a couple days ago and had the screen rising issue out of box. My only reaction: WTF. Feel like returning at least until the manufacturing issues are resolved.

Not yet. There's an Asia one. The post above though might be worth just sending it back rooted. Doubt they'd check. I like the silver one. It's nice just looks nicer in black. I'll decide Monday when it comes to actually sending it back lol

Employee returned phone

I received my LG phone back but it's locked and the disgruntled employee smashed the screen. I'm an note3 owner so I'm clueless to the LG Android platform. What are my best options here? I'm considering replacing the screen myself as I've done before on phones but to get into the phone and everything is not an option I assume.

Wow! What happened? Why did the screen get smashed? I would freaking say something.... you shouldn't have to fix it.
If need be, you can pop the back cover off with a guitar pick, or similar. Its just like a Samsung once you get inside. Remove the battery, remove the rear housing, remove the motherboard, vibrator, antennae, etc.
Yeah I've replaced screens before. Suggestions on cheapest place to order one? Local place wants 160 bucks to replace it lol

Untold? I fired the person for theft of fuel. Some cannot be trusted with a monitored fuel card I guess. Especially when the card is tied to a certain vehicle and they have to use a unique pin at the pump. My 160 out of pocket to repair a phone is chump change when it's a few hundred dollars of fuel

And there it is. Had this happen at my place of employment. Said person was ultimately fired for a 2$ charge. Giving employees G2s to use, nice boss... Lol
Maybe it"s a factor to some, but idc if it's 2 dollars or 2000, cant stand a thief. I can understand the not bothering part as well, if you ever recover the price it will have cost you even more. Some former employee's of mine thought being the boss makes you rich so you wont notice, both are usually idiotic ideas. Why they think i owe them but they owe me nothing is beyond me.

god, until that explanation, i sat here reading this thread as if you sent your phone back to LG to get something fixed, and then an LG employee was disgruntled, broke the screen, and sent it back to you like that.
i'm sure many others read the story the same way, dude..lol you have to be more descriptive..that's why people are all, "you shouldn't have to pay for this, make them pay for it!" as in, make LG pay for something they did.
but obviously now we understand the situation

I was thinking the same exact thing - except that it was a disgruntled Verizon employee who was the culprit.
Never put it past VZW to send out a warranty replacement with issues lol
Once I get this fixed I may use an upgrade from another line to use the g2 as a spare for myself. Are they locked bootloader like my note 3?

i believe so, but there's a loki exploit or something..i forget, i haven't rooted or done any of this since september lol
I recently rooted mine, ran a few roms but made the mistake of wiping data on my stock recovery and soft bricked. Was able to go all the way back to 4.2.2. Then 2 updates later here I am lol.
Rooting and fixing are very simple at this stage.

Step 1 learn how to use a computer. Mod Edit: This is unnecessary if you don't have anything constructive please don't contribute.
Step 2 Google HTC Advantage....
Well aware of how to use a computer, thank you. But, for those whom are more intellectual and read between the lines and knew my question to be: pursue Blacktie support, or HTC Guarantee?

I would suggest HTC Guarantee. From what I have read they are fast turn around and no questions or loops like Blacktie. And consider that you only get one screen replacement in the first 6 months for FREE!
Once you contact them, they should send you one day shipping package and believe one day turn around with one day return shipping. Try to get Best Buy to move that fast...
