When I try and launch some apps (like where's my water), the app will not launch if I am not connected to wifi. They work when I am connected to wifi. Help.

Are there any workarounds?
No because the want to send and receive "achievements" to their server and more importantly get you to buy more stuff... can't do that without a connection.
They are more network apps than just apps (and large too).
More and more apps require a constant Internet connection. Which is starting to upset me because the price of data is going up on cell phones, and most tablets are wifi only. I wanted to buy Asphalt 7 but it requires a constant Internet connection too.

I got an iPad the other day, and have been using the tethering ability of N1 with CM6.1rc1 while at work. I have the basic wifi iPad,that does not have gps built into it, but it is able to pull location data from wifi. While on my homes wifi, google maps shows my location about 300 Feet from my actual location, but while at work using my phone for wifi, it's much more accurate, only off by about 30 feet or so. So does my N1 share the gps location over the wifi when tethering is turned on?
Nope... Just means that the location services being used by the ipad know what wifi is near your office better...

My Guess is that its based on your external IP. Something like this http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp
Google actually records the location of your wifi network, when you use things like latitude.
When I moved from Australia back to New Zealand for about a month whenever I was connected to my home wifi router, google said my location was in australia (because that was the same router I was using in australia).
Even though I had changed the ssid etc, I still had to wait for google's servers to realise I had moved. So I guess they record the location along with the mac address for the router.

Just gave that a try, and I'm guessing that's not it. It shows my location 10 or 15 miles away from my actual location.

Is it able to pull location data from wifi networks that are not even visible to me?
I used to tether my iPod Touch to my Androids before it was stolen. Same idea, I think it just looks for all the wi-fi MAC addresses nearby and triangulates a probable position. If the network you're connected to is not in its database (and inevitably, the MAC address of a tethering phone won't be), then it just sniffs out all the other surrounding wi-fi networks. So whatever networks are visible from your office, they are already in the Skyhook database.
Hi guys
I have a question.
I use my galaxy note to tether and connect to the internet with my laptop and my xbox360 at times, as the speeds and quality of service i get from my mobile provider are pretty darn good, its actually as fast as the standard 8mb home broadband that we get in this are at the moment.
I have tho discovered a problem with it, when using my note with the mobile hotspot active and connected via wifi to my xbox 360, the xbox shows the connection as being firewalled and restrictive, so it sometimes stops me getting the best out of it.
Do you guys know how to resolve this, theres no pc or router involved, just 360 and galaxy note, so im assuming the android system must have some kind of firewall system, or its because of the type of connection, and is there a way to maybe disble the firewall in the engineer settings or something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does xbox support WPA2 PSK? Did you try open network?

Thats a thought, yer the xbox supports wpa2 because it connects and lets me play games online, watch movies on lovefilm use fb etc etc, so no problems at all with the connection but no ive not tried it with an open network, i will try and see if it makes a difference, usually i dont use open networks because i have people in my area that tend to use others open networks so i try to avoid the issue by having it secure but thanks for the reply, i shall give that a go and see if it makes a difference.
I can't get AirDroid to connect using ICS leak 213.
I can't even get my phone to respond to a ping from my laptop on the same network, though I can ping my laptop from my phone on the same network.
Any ideas?

It sounds more like a network/router issue than an AirDroid issue, it worked fine for me in .213 and .215 leaks.
Is your phone on a VPN connection? If yes, then it's possible that your phone has multiple IP addresses and AirDroid is showing one which is not accessible from your laptop.
Did you try both connection methods? Via the local IP and via the AirDroid.com wensite?
No VPN connection.
I tried both by local IP and web.airdroid.com, and checked that the local IP is correct from both About>Status and my router.
If I try to connect just through Chrome, I never get anything. If I try to connect by scanning the QR code through my phone, I can sometimes get it to connect initially and bring my to the AirDroid desktop, but I almost always can't access contacts, messages, etc.
I tried port forwarding 8888 for my local IP, but that didn't seem to make any difference.
The strange thing is that my Touchpad works fine with AirDroid. In the past, I've had some odd Wifi issues with both my Droid 4 and my Droid 3, e.g. adding an Exchange account won't complete setup if I'm using wifi on either of those phones (on GB and ICS), but it has worked fine on Android devices without cellular radios (my Touchpad and Archos 101).
It appears like it's a network/router issue, but at the same time appears like it's not.

There could be a clue right here. Do you have a mobile data subscription?
If yes, then perhaps there are some very small WiFi drops which cause Android to try to connect to mobile data instead of WiFi, and the time it spends without the local IP might just be enough to impact AirDroid performance.
You could try the following:
Put the phone in Airplane Mode to disable all wireless connections
Manually enable WiFi - this is possible without disabling Airplane Mode
Now you are on a pure WiFi connection, no mobile data or Bluetooth PAN to interfere. Does that improve AirDroid's behaviour?
Also, if you know how your router works, you can give the Droid 4 a fixed IP address to avoid the IP changing when there is any network hiccup. Most modern routers usually seem to remember which IP they assigned to a device via DHCP anyway (at least for a limited amount of time) but it's worth a shot.
No such luck with the Airplane Mode/Wifi. I outright turning the cell radio off with Phone Info too, still didn't work.
With DD-WRT, my router will keep IPs and MACs associated, so it's not that the IP is changing.
If I reboot the phone, it'll work a little bit initially but eventually stop working and I won't be able to ping it either.
Can wifi and 3G run at same time? I need them together, wifi to print via wireless printer and 3G to use net.
Technically, not a problem to have both active. Problem might be that the app you want to use for wifi could map itself to the internet/3g connection group. Or the program you download with ends up switching to wifi, if that's what the phone prefers when it has two specific connections.
Usually is dependent on the program implementations now, though. But if it seems to work and then somehow fails, the app's connection preferences probably is the problem.

Thanks for the reply but I didn't get you mostly.
I am using HP ePrint app. I want wifi to connect to printer and 3G to recode data to print. Turning on wifi automatically connects to wifi. 3G turns off. Any how to force them stay together?
Hello Everyone.
I am using a VPN and the Wifi Tether Router paid app from the market. I am curious as to how T-mobile still knows I am tethering, as I just got a "You used 80% of your High speed data" text from them (Have unlimited data plan)
Any ideas on how to completely hide? SSL? Proxy? Only seem to have issues with the Playstation and not the PC....
Any help appreciated...
The PS4 data probably shows up different on the network than PC data. I've read that T-Mobile put some new things in place on their end to identify data usage being masked.

I saw similar results. I noticed that when I tether, it doesn't route me through my openVPN connection regardless of the tethering method I use. You can test this on your own, fire up the vpn, then tether to your PC, then go check the external IP on your PC.
You'll most likely need a non-stock ROM for it to work. The ROM probably reports all MACs and the traffic passing through it to T-MO.
