It appears when the screen is blue and when it is black. I try to unsee it, but alas it is too late. I'm not sure if I want to deal with Asus or not. Anyone deal with them outside of the first 15 days? I've tried fixing it, but there is no change. I have noticed though that it does change shades, but never completely goes away.

Some companies will only exchange if you have 3 or more dead pixels. I don't know what Google's policy is.

That looks more like a suck pixel than a dead one, if it were dead it would be black, not white. I know there are ways of fixing stuck pixels

I tried the stuck pixel test and fix for 25 minutes with no success. I if anyone can suggest another method I'm all up for it.

Is that on the left side of the screen? Since it is at the edge of the screen you might want to try pressing down firmly on the area while the screen is on. Don't press too hard though.
Tried that as well.. They sent me a message stating that replacement nexus is in shopping cart and I can print the shipping label to send mine back. I can't find any info on stuck/dead pixel coverage on warranty however. Going to look in box. I originally was looking on Asus' site.
Just received replacement, and it had a dead pixel. I kept my old one with the stuck pixel, but I would rather send the one back that has the stuck pixel. I wonder if I could just put it in the box to send back instead.

You would need to file for a separate RMA.

The RMA is tied to the specific unit (using the Google Play serial number), so just putting the new one in the box and sending in under the current RMA would cause all sorts of problems when the serial numbers don't match up. And, I was told that when a replacement is processed, you MUST send in the original and they will NOT cancel the RMA and let you send the replacement back. Stupid, but the rep I was working with was adamant.
I ended up sending back all three of my N7's that I got from the Play store (the original and two replacements). I decided to find one in a local B&M store so I could avoid the UPS shuffle--got tired of waiting for the delivery, then boxing up the replacements and taking them to the UPS store, then waiting (as I still am, but it's not been overly long) for a refund on the original.
The weakness to my strategy, of course, is that I'll have to deal with ASUS if there's a warranty issue. But, yeah, in answer to your question: I'd either get another replacement, or return for a refund and start over.
Nevermind, saw you got it exchanged. ive had three tablets already and none have dead pixels, that is crazy that you would get two. id rma it again

If that that is how a dead pixel look like then the two on mine must be dust particle because it is way less visible (I have to concentrate super hard to see it) than that and totally disappears when view from a slight angle. I am having second thoughts of RMA mine now because mine have very slight screen flicker when viewing at the lowest brightness occasionally only and these 2 dust particles because I don't want to end up with one that have dead pixel like yours which is really noticeable and will annoy the hell out of me.

No, that's not a dead pixel. Dead pixels are black and yeah they are hard to notice.

I'm not sure what exactly is happening on an IPS panel when a pixel is stuck as a very dim but changeable color, but that's what happened to me and sounds like what you're seeing. My first unit had stuck pixels which were only visible on black backgrounds. The Off angle you could barely see it at all, but dead on it was as obvious as any normal dead pixel or stuck pixel. It changed color to match any background, but never turned fully on or off. The op looks like he has a full on stuck white pixel which is a bit more obvious.
The picture is a stuck pixel. It was very annoying. There is one dead pixel on the new one. I might be able to live with it

same things happening to mine. the lower half of my volume button is almost completely copper.
I think that's a flaw thats found only in the white vivid. Ive seen other threads on here talking about it happening to them, but all those users had white devices as well. So far I havent heard of anyone with a black vivid having the problem. Ive got a black one and it's buttons are just as shiny as the day I got it. Havent figured out HTC's reasoning on going with different power and volume buttons on the white phone than they do on the black phone.

Unfortunatelly my friend had worse problem with his white htc vivid.
this colour started to become black. HTC support said that this is due heavy use.
I've ordered for him new black back shell from online shop he replaced it and it looks awesome. After using since 3 weeks buttons are still like brand new.
I'm about to purchase the white one, but i will be promptly applying the trident aegis case to it. For those of you who are experiencing the discolouration, are you using a case, or no?

No Changes on My Vivid
Have had my black Vivid for nearly 11 months. I use it daily, hitting the power button numerous times. Volume button does not get as much use. Both are still the original color. Quality control in the manufacturing process may not be consistent, so that the plating on the buttons can vary from one batch of phones to another. That could be part of the problem. But I can't help but wonder if perspiration, and other stuff, on our hands might be part of the problem as well.
The bigger issue is whether the buttons work. My old HTC HD2 is pretty much DOA now because the power button wore out in less than 2 years of use. I am more concerned that the Vivid's power button will still be working a year from now.
YES, I've had my vivid since may 25th.. I have 2 one black one white both have the issues AT&T told me it was my fault, it was rust from getting wet and etc, I know it wasn't my fault I never get my phones wet, or even the steam from the shower can turn the stickers they are both white and they refused to return and exchange my device because of it.

I have been reading the threads here for a while, and alot of you all, have returned several Nexus 7's for various reasons. I'm trying to compile a simple bar graph, to see why people are returning their units. For me the final straw was the Color Hue/ or Tint correctness, or lack thereof.
New on is on par with iPad, 3 just not as bright or vibrant but at least my Blue is Blue now (not Purple)
So have at it.
For me it's been screen raise/separation, screen flicker and one of mine wouldn't charge with the device on, only when it was off.
I'm on my 7th one which has been perfect so far.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
For me, it would be that the price was too high for what I was getting. Also I couldn't do nearly the things I thought I could do with the tablet. It was barely better than a front end for a web browser.
Wait, we are talking about returning an iPad to buy a Nexus 7, right?
Can't see any reason to return mine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Returned my first Nexus 7 because the colors looked washed out, whites over saturated, and sometimes the screen looked very over exposed (later I'd find out because of video playback).
Unfortunately I wouldn't realized until a couple returns later that all these issues were common on most (if not all) Nexus 7 tablets. I was confused early on by comments of "looks perfect" and "looks as good as my iPad 3".
But after 4 tablets, I'm pretty much convinced the washed out colors, white saturation, and video playback issues are universal. So my first RMA was actually pretty pointless.
My second and third Nexus 7 tablets however had raised glass. Two different types of raised glass though. On the second one the glass was bulging on the left side and could not be pushed down. I never opened the back to investigate what might be causing it. The third Nexus 7 was raised, but I could push it down. So I put a couple small clamp on it, left it over night and it's stayed down a couple days now.
Slight screen separation but I'm not going to return it for just that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Screen separation, light bleed....thats it. Only 2 things, but they affect the most important part of the device, the screen!
RMA'd two units due to flicker. The second unit also had a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen, and a yellow tint to the screen. Waiting on my third unit to ship this week, hopefully problem free!

2 dead pixels, erratic screen flickering, and inaccurate colors.
Screen seperation, light flicker, and a ding in the corner
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
First one was for a dead pixel in a terrible spot for ebook reading, and it was otherwise the best unit. The other two were primarily because whites had a sickly yellow tint. All of them had screen separation to one degree or another, and all had the flicker.
I'm waiting awhile for these issues to be worked out, then I'll give it another shot.

Screen lift on two units. Flickering on the first one too. Lower speaker volume on second one.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Severe screen lifting on first (though not returning since I seem to have fixed it).
Second one going back because gyro/accelerometer/compass all way off and the frame has a kink/dint in it along with a small amount of lift and screen movement..
I have fairly washed out colours but I don't see that as a problem, I prefer the toned down colours to my overly vivid phone colours.
Deleted
The washed out colours is a software problem in tegra3 it will be resolved soon.
Bought first one from Sam's on the 13th, returned due to screen lift. Noticed it after a week of heavy use.
Ordered an 8 from Google. Right out of the box, minor screen separation. RMA went through yesterday, getting a replacement.
I was more upset about a strip of stuck pixels in my second unit when I called in the RMA, but that wasn't there anymore the next time I booted up. Other than the very minor screen separation, which has not significantly progressed in the two weeks I've had it, I have no complaints about this unit. But I will be exchanging it anyway because I'm afraid it will get worse. I haven't been using this one nearly as much.
Here is a picture of my second unit. Look at the far side. The left bezel is a thin silver line, interrupted by the black display where the screen isn't flush.

I returned mine because I bought an extra one by mistake. I had ordered from OfficeDepot first, but when they said they were backordered, I made a new order from Staples. As luck would have it, they both arrived on the same day. I returned the one from Staples because Staples is closer to where I live.
First Nexus 7 from the play store had a bad digitizer. Returned it and got a RMA replacement with a bad head phone jack. Took a little effort by me but I got it working by sticking a needle in the jack and fixing the pins on the inside.....I still got bad crackling from my speaker but its not worth returning it and waiting on another tablet to come in.

I was thinking of exchanging it for another because of the washed out colors. Its not too bad but I wasn't sure if this was common. I started reading more and more people with the same issue. So I'm keeping it. Its not too bad and I have no other problems with it. Here is hoping maybe an update can improve it.

I stopped in my local Gamestop yesterday to pickup Madden 13 and ended up leaving with a Nexus 7 too lol. Ill be giving this one to my gf but I just wanted to post a few pics of some things that may be slightly different about the C80 production runs. I didnt do a complete teardown of the unit so I cant say if any changes have been made to combat the over exaggerated screen lift stuff but I have noticed a few small changes. I honestly dont think anything has really changed in terms of manufacturing but these units had just came in yesterday morning so im assuming it was a fresh batch.
First up is the box. Im not sure when they made this change but my C70 didnt have the notches on the box for easy opening. I remember kinda having a hard time separating the box when I first got my C70.

Second thing I noticed was the C80 units have a few screws missing. Im not sure if this is something they just started doing, but I exchanged three C80 units at Gamestop yesterday because me and the manager thought it was a flaw but all 3 random units had the two missing screws.
Here are a few shots of the back cover and unit. Im not sure if anything is different but maybe someone whos more familiar with the insides may notice something.
I did noticed the serial # on the rear sticker is now printed in white as opposed to black:
They probably realized all those screws put too much pressure & therefore causing lift.

Yeah man, for sure. First thing I do after opening it will be sharing what I find with everyone. And I can 100% sympathize with a cracked screen haha, its an awful feeling that you have to eat the $200-250 and get a new one :/
I removed those 2 screws on my C70 just now If the reason is in fact to reduce the stress on the screen to reduce cracking, then maybe it's recommended C60 and C70 owners to do this too?

Sweet! So I guess this was something done on purpose. I'll see if I can get a official word from Asus regarding this. It would be kinda funny if all the people returning earlier built tablets because of missing screws found out it was done like that intentionally lol.
I also have removed those screws on my C6O. The screen is not lifted now, and when i put pressure on the opposite corners of tablet, i don`t hear crackling.

Alright, so I just got mine in the mail (my second purchase) and I was VERY disappointed at first. I received a C60...... WTF? So I open it up and the screen is flush, not lower than bezel, flush.... all around. ZERO screen flicker, ZERO light bleed, very responsive, colors are correct, no dead pixels, speakers work, some ghosting on max brightness, but that is to be expected of IPS screens. Now I need to get it super hot and see if the screen stays. If there is anything I missed I will post it. Oh, and it also looks like my box had been re-used because there was a second layer of tape on the black box. Was mine refurbished? Who cares, so far so good.

I had another unit before this one with a purple tint issue on camera and beleie me this faint vague smoke on top of the screen is nothing compared to it, though I wonder if burnin repair apps available for amoled can do magic here

It looks like the screen was pressed real hard on top, or it hasn't been put in properly. Happened to my iPod before. And dude, after all the sh*t you went through with this phone you still want another HTC? I'm personally never gonna buy HTC again.

I spent 2 months with an S4 and while it didn't have any problems at all it was a VERY boring phone and I felt how great Sense UI is!
You can't estimate how much HTC and its Sense are nice but when you use another phone for some weeks.
This very slight faint ''burnin'' is really nothing at all,it's exactly placed at the statusbar level so you won't notice it because it fells ''natural''.
BTW on amoled screen you can't let it ON more than 10 minutes because you risk to have burnins very easily.
I wonder if using screen burnin fix apps could overheat the internals and end up killing my camera lens (purple tint issue)?
HTC phones always had low quality controls,my uncle's One V screen had a yellow spot on the screen most probably due to glue, though with time it wearied off.
Usually I have luck with HTC phones but with the One I had a purple tint issue after 3 month on my first unit, a zebra effect on camera on my 2nd unit (returned it after 24h) and now this ''burnin'' or glue or whatever, but again this black tint is really not a big deal specially if I will get rid of it in 2 or 3 months.
I still take much more joy using my One than with the S4.

Hmm. You have a point there.. But until the next flagship came, at least one of these would be less boring than the s4

I can't live without Sense and VenomX since I am back to One
just got Shamu today from Ebay for $289. waiting for case an screen protector, and also nano sim from TMO.
its on lollipop 5.0. just checked battery consumption and miscellaneous already got 5%
I am coming from nexus 5. yes the size is going to be a problem for my hands but advantage for my eyes.
What should I do next?
Flash image through adb directly to 6.0 or go the ota way. I already see 5.0.1 on notifications. all is stock.
Cut my micro to nano or wait for tmos original nano.
any rom suggestions? it will be weeks before I do my home work,
First thing I did was setup adb, unlock the bootloader and flash a 6.0 image onto it

Congrats on the new phone. I got mine from ebay (blinq) last Thursday! Who did you get it from?
I was checking ebay day and night to see a seller list as $289.99.
Glad I was able to get mine in a timely manner.
The first thing I did was try to update it to Marshmallow. Unfortunately, for whatever reason mine came flashed with LNX07M. No matter what I did, I was unable to get the most recent OTA (and no, I did not have a sim card in the phone at the time.) From what I read it is a dev rom and I had to sideload the Marshmallow image. But sideloading was not working either for some reason. I ended up unlocking the bootloader and manually flashing the image using the flash-all script that came bundled with the factory images.
Have you been experiencing any issues with the phone? I am definitely seeing burn-ins on the screen after 5 days of use!! Also I have the static noise from the upper speaker when the battery is below 20%.
Out of curiosity, what case and screen protector did you get?
I got Spigen slim armor with TechArmor clear SP but I am returning the case because the buttons are crappy. Will swap it with a Hybrid Neo.
Do let me know how you like the phone.

Easier than this?
1. Turn on developer mode
2. Enable OEM unlocking
3. Unlock bootloader

I got mine from blinq too. $289.
mine came with lollipop 5.0 I had to do all ota up to marshmallow. the pc was busy last night for adb.
I had some kind dust from the box on the inside when i opened the box first time. it was not like when i open the nexus 5 box from play store in near sterile conditions. it also came with some screen protector that was not a good cut out. just a screen protector that covers all sensors and front camera. the device seems completely brand new. I inspected it closely. I am waiting for nano card so I have not used it yet to check for the speaker static noise you mention and monitor burn out.
I got the ringke slim clear. the one that gets yellow after some months of use.
Do you know if our devices come with any sort of warranty?
Thanks

Oh cool! Same seller then. I kept checking and a few others listed it with that price (mobilepros1 and some other dude who was selling the frost white version).
Dust....? Wasn't the box sealed? The box I received was sealed and I had to cut open the red sticker in order to get to the phone. The screen protector you mentioned was there for me as well. I checked a couple of unboxing reviews and they all had that protector on it.
Yeah definitely keep me posted about the screen and the static noise cause I wonder if they knew something was wrong with the batch they had on hand and were selling them for this price (it's really far-fetched but let's see).
It should have Motorola's warranty (at least that's what I'm assuming). Motorola's page says you can check the warranty if you initiate a service order. Haven't tried it yet as the seller has 30 days money back policy.
I actually meant some kind of dust like particles from the materials that are inside the box. I had the box sealed and I went through the same thing you described with red sticker, but it was not as clean as Nexus 5 I remember. Anyway no big deal. Can you post any pic with monitor burn ins, so I can have an idea what to look for after I start using it. Whenever you have time.
Thanks

Those particles are normal. I've had them on some of my other stuff (my PS4, my other phones and even on tablets).
I tried snapping some photos a few minutes ago with my old Galaxy S3 but the camera is so crappy that you can't really notice them in the captures. The burn-ins are more pronounced when the brightness is 100% and the background is gray. I can see the ghost of the square, triangle and the circle buttons on the navigation bar. They are really noticeable in the Screen Test and Fix app under the gray background.
I wonder if the "burn-ins" I'm experiencing are actually image retention... Anyways your feedback will help better identify the problem

Actually I started seeing those symptoms after about 3 days. You may want to check it again in a few days.
Also the speaker noise happens when the battery goes below 20%

Ok will check after couple of days. Mostly cause of burn in is too much light of the screen. And some images like buttons will appear. That's why i never adjust my screen light to full or even at the middle. Most of the time minimum. Prevent cause of burn in. Also did you already calibrate the screen color of your phone? Mine is already calibrated to a proper color. And I'm root.
Speaker during low battery is fine here.

I have my brightness set to adaptive. Yes the colors are calibrated. I had a Galaxy S3 before this for 3 years and I have little to almost no burn-in on that phone. I got this phone dirt cheap to who cares LoL!
I didd a bit of testing today and I can confirm that I am experiencing image retention rather than burn in. I hid the navigation bar for a few hours and after that I tested the screen again with a gray background. I couldn't see the nav button ghosts anymore.
Waiting to hear back from you guys

Hi. If you tell me how to do it I will do this test. I am still stock no bl unlocked yet. Same seller as you. The really annoying thing is the proximity sensor is crazy sensible. Can't go near the area top left for example refresh twitter feed as the sensor will turn the screen off. Other than that all good here. Oh almost forgot is really big. My left thumb hurts now.
