Will y'all please make a sticky list in the development section with all the roms and kernels listed and labeled whether they are custom stock builds or source build roms for the Nexus7 so they will all be easy to find. Thanks.
Oops, now i see there is a list already created.
I see its this list [REF] All In One Nexus 7 Jelly Bean Android Development ! Sources,Roms,Kernels etc under Nexus 7 Android Development.

Honestly, I don't even know where to start......

Is there an "easy" or tried and true method to downgrading? CM10.1 is too laggy for my phone. Is 9 any faster or more stable? I was going to downgrade to 7 because I know it works and I don't have any experience with 9.
Thanks in advance.

I don't want to come off as rude, but this belongs among Q&A threads, not Development. Having said that, 10.1 is a work in progress and yes 9 would be more stable. I recommend going back to stock Gingerbread and flashing up from there. There is a stickied thread at the top of this Dev forum with methods to go back to stock Gingerbread (I recommend KK4), or check my signature for links. Happy flashing!
CM10 is stable too, I had it on my phone for about a month with no single issue. Same file system, just flash and ready to go.
In my opinion, no need to downgrade to GB or ICS. I've tried many custom ROMs and JB based give best performance and smoothest UI.
Thread moved to Q and A as this is not a discussion that offers or is development.
Please post in accordance with XDA posting rules.
Thanks for the replies. I posted in the dev section by accident. Thanks for moving my post to the appropriate section. After reading through the threads about GB, ICS and JB I think I'll just stick with CM10.1 and optimize what I have.
Thanks again.

Try other JB ROMs too. There are many great and stable out there. I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for in less than a week. :victory:

I'm using the stock one that came with trick droid.
AFAIK sources haven't been released for 4.2.2 so everyone's using modded 4.1.2 ones. With that in mind there's not that many great ones out there. Lots of features that were present on 4.1 aren't there.
Just so you know, this thread will probably get closed. There's no which is the best this or that threads allowed on xda.
Just so u know.

Until HTC releases their source for 4.2.2 you won't find anything really other than a modded stock, as mentioned above. Your best bet is to bookmark a few threads in the Android & Original Android development forums and check back frequently. I'd assume by the end of the month we'l see new kernels.
Can't wait for some real custom kernels.

Just wondering why we have 2 different development forums? Seems they both have similar content but I have to go from one to the other and I'm not sure there's any reason for having both? Anyone else think this is annoying?
We have 2 one for AOSP based Roms and one for touch wiz roms. The one for touchwiz is Roms that are based on the phones original firmware. The other are based on stock android.

Read the stickies in each one. It explains it well.

NO this is very wrong! Read the sticky in Original development. Only ROMs created from ground up like CM and AOKP are original. Any clone or cherry picked ROM does not belong in Original Development.

So what your saying is we have a second development forum for 2 roms. All other AOSP roms are clones of them aren't they?

Also for kernels, ROMs with custom kernels, ROMs built from the ground up. Definitey not for someone who just follows CM's instructions on how to build from their source and they change one thing. That is not original. The huge misconception that one is for TW makes no sense on Google devices...then nothing should go in Android Development? The Original Development section was created to reward developers and teams who have created or modified 100's of lines of code and put a lot of original work into their release.
Now that CM 11 Nightlies have started for the Nexus 5, I wanted to find a forum where we can discuss, ask questions or even chat/talk about CM.
CyanogenMod now has an official website with a forum for such questions/topics. However, I don't see a forum up yet for the Nexus 5. So if you wish to use this thread until a thread on CyanogenMod's official page is up, please feel free.
This is not a development thread, it is simply for people to ask questions and help each other out.
In order to run CM you will need to have an unlocked bootloader and you will need a custom recovery installed. To unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery, please see link below created by @Chromium_ :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905
Once you have a custom recovery installed you will need to download the CM ROM of your choice (Either Nightly, RC, M Snapshot or Stable). CM ROMs for the Nexus 5 (Hammerhead) can be found here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=hammerhead
You will also need to download CM 11 GAPPS which can be found here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps
CM 11 Nightly Changelog (for Hammerhead) can be found here:
http://www.cmxlog.com/11/hammerhead/
CyanogenMod's Code Review can be found here:

CyanogenMod Google+ Profile can be found here:
https://plus.google.com/+CyanogenMod/posts
CyanogenMod's Official Homepage is here:

I hope the above links will cover the basics and point people in the right direction for downloading and installing CM.

I thought that thread was to announce that CM 11 M1 was available to download and where you can get it. Didn't think it was an ongoing discussion thread with regards to Nightlies as well and for Q&A?
I searched around XDA Nexus 5 threads and that thread was the closest I could find, but I assumed it was just to inform users that M1 is out and can be downloaded. But others can chime in as well if they like, if they feel this thread is repetitive or not needed let me know.

What features is it missing? I find it hard to believe that ALL of the features are missing from their ROM. Maybe you read the listing of features elsewhere, for their Lollipop builds?
oh, that what @cupfulloflol said, and you can always flash another rom, or a factory image.

Not a single ROM option like in the official video showed up. anyway just flashed blisspop 4.0.3 because it has more features.
Please try to read more next time. 6.0 recently came out and none of the many 6.0 ROMs out there are feature packed. What you were reading was 5.1.1 features. Blisspop doesn't even have 6.0 ROM out there yet so that's why it has a lot of features.
I am aware of this. But pure nexus has a list of features for 6.0 and I didn't get them. I flashed blisspop 4.0.3 for android 5.1.1

ok, i just read the op for that rom.. the features that you are describing are all in their 5.1.1 rom. the android 6 version if that rom just started up. and as roms start off, they all are very basic. it takes time to add things then test. you need to read the details a little better, and/or ask questions in the rom threads instead if just constantly posting questions here.

I want to ask questions in the ROM threads but XDA restrictions are not lifted. It doesn't let me post in the ROM threads.
