Just put this ph11img.zip in your root of sd card{your software ver will not change}
Then enter into hboot by shutting the phone down then holding the volume - +power off button it will ask you to update press volume +.......done
Now just take this version of fastboot.exe while using fastboot oem get_identifier_token

basically your saying, due to getting your hboot update u now cannot get root?
you cant downgrade hboot...and without the XTC clip u cannot get s-off.
but by having the new hboot you should have access to your bootloader now, giving you the ability to flash CWM recovery. kanded knows this procedure better than me i believe as i already have s-off and original hboot with cwm.

unlocking your bootloader via HTC allows you to flash roms via adb (android-Sdk)
having s-off allows you to do all this without going through HTC like i did.
basically i used the XTC clip, which gave me s-off and unlocked my bootloader at the same time it installed cwm 4.
you have cwm5 and i use cwm 4 as my setup currently doesn't allow me to update it. why i dont know.
best way possible is to use you standard rom once you have rooted it.
in the post i left previous i listed a topic which kanded wrote on using data2sd script. See here for data2sd post> Data2SD
get root, follow that post to the letter! do not deviate from it, make sure you make a flash back up via cwm (backup and restore, makes a nandroid backup image of your current setup, which allows you to flash back anytime to what your using now)
and then copy your sd card to your computer.(image backup)
as this process will wipe everything stored.
as for custom Roms, thats your choice.....not allot around at the minute, i have 2 Chinese UK O2 Roms, both totally different, but both have memory issues, as for using the data2SD i still have to figure out why my handsets not allowing it.
so once this is working on a standard ROM, maybe it can be used on these other Roms i have.
personally stick with what you got and try kandeds data2sd method...see if that works for you.
i can be contacted via gtalk on your handset, type in [email protected]

srry for replyng late..
here is wad i followed first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438804
u need adb and fast boot
i got cmw 5 using this and this was preety simple..
just run the commands in cmd prompt with ur device connecteded in usb debugging mode nd u will have cmw5
next inssert a memory card in fat32 format into ur phone and run the cmw5 recovery by holding the volume down with power button
once into cmw5 goto advance then select to partition ur mrmy card
u must create 3 partitions
1) fat32
2)ext3
3)swap
the size depends on your requirements
once dis is done
plug ur memory card into a pc and use MiniTool Partition to convert ur ext3 partition to ext2
(doing the above three partition directly on ur pc may not allow ur phone to read the card so i prefer doing this)
after dat
go to cwm recovery again, wipe data, cache and dakvik cache. Reboot.
Install busybox, and choose the version v1.17.1
now go to cwm recovery again.
flash htc-data2sd sdcard
reboot
and vooila u have increased ur internal memory space
Reboot
i have composed this using kanded posts.

As you can see there are plenty of ways to do Rom and Kernel updates. If you are the type of person that wants to easily get the Stock ICS Rom, use the RUU. RUU stands for "Rom Update Utility" and all you need to do is download the RUU (it will be a zip file with 1 EXE inside), plug your phone into your computer, extract the EXE file and Run. Everything will be automatic.
If you unlocked your bootloader, make sure to relock it. Also, the RUU states to make sure you have at least 30% battery life, but I alway charge it up all the way before I perform any update.
I hope this helps a little.

Yes the att one would be fine I guess , bloat ware I guess don't bother me not sure even what it is ,
I can flash a new one after I've unlocked the boot loader and rooted ? If correct then just put the exe and run files on the sd as before ?
So the kernel has to match the Rom ....also if I load or flash a Rom do I need to flash the kernel too ?
I just read that again run is not a file it is what you do with exe right ?
Unzip the exe file to desktop or somewhere accessible, make sure phone has usb debugging enabled, also need to have htc sync installed....plug in phone to computer via usb cable...execute the ruu...after this has flashed the phone and rebooted/loaded etc....then if you choose to unlock the bootloader go to htcdev website, register and follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader. Once the bootloader is unlocked then you have to decide what rom you would like to use and thats about it....

You'll need to save the files on your PC (desktop) connect to adb and open up command prompt to flash the recovery and boot.img.

Hey guys
- not experimental anymore as roots all latest ICS builds and previous unrootable GB roms!
This is classed as experimental as I cannot try it but those with above mentioned softwares can. As we know most of the ASIAN firmwares 1.14, 1.24, 1.28 and Thailand and some o2 DE and Vodafone Dutch firmware versions have not been rootable by Doomlords exploit. This can prove quite disappointing by some who want to flash custom roms etc or just want root on their stock rom. This supersu zip works with most recent firmware releases and on One X so there is a strong likelyhood it will work on SXL as well.
Original Thread here here and all credits to CHAINFIRE(amazing dev) for this. I have attached the latest supersu zip 0.88 to this post.
Procedure:
1. If not already done so unlock bootloader at HTCDEV website. full instructions given on how to do this on the website here
2. flash recovery from here
3. boot into recovery via bootloader and flash supersu zip attached to this post (download and place in root of internal sd before flashing recovery) and reboot. supersu app should be installed on device. run the app and update the binaries as prompted and that should be it. if any issues go to preferences and change su setting to grant from prompt and it should be ok.
please advise if successful so i can update or remove thread. please post what software version you attempted to root and region PLEASE
Extended flash procedure broken down
1. unlock bootloader at HTCDEV.COM
2. with phone connected to pc and usb debugging enabled type: adb reboot bootloader. phone will boot into fastboot mode showing fastboot USB in red border
3. type command: fastboot erase cache
4. flash recovery downloaded aboved by using this command: fastboot flash recovery recovery_for_1.28
5. using press power button to select hboot highlighted in blue
6. vol down to recovery in green and power to select. recovery should launch
7. install zip from sdcard and choose supersu 0.87 or 0.88 and install
8. reboot and enjoy full root
Thanks for your hard work!

i think u need to first soff ur phone!!for that u need to downgrade ur hboot to 1.13.0000 or 1.09.0000!! apparently the tool tpbklake is sugesting can downgrade ur hboot(i havent tested it) then u need to soff via revolutionary!! its all easy once u downgrade ur hboot version!!
i really hope u can at least give it a look at guides made by our fellow forumers and ask questions accordingly when u got stuck on certain steps or something. tpbklake provides useful link there, why dun y have a look first.
im not a pro, but i think most important of all u need to know what rooting is all about, if u want to go along the easy way, then just unlock ur device through htcdev, flash custom recovery, and flash a pre-rooted rom available (most of them are pre-rooted).

have you flashed a recovery ? if so you need to flash this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1195049&d=1342168095
after that do a reboot and you should have superuser in your apps list. update the binary and done

That's not the file he linked. That is my downgrade script which will not work on your hboot version unless your phone is rooted.
Your also describing a stock recovery, you need a custom recovery to flash the superuser file that naathaanb96 linked. Copy his file to your sdcard.
link to custom recovery http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img flash this using
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img
reboot into bootloader
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and select recovery from the bootloader menu. When the recovery loads select install zip from sdcard and choose the superuser zip file you copied earlier and confirm. When that completes, reboot and you're rooted.
I followed your instructions, and still not rooted.. I noticed after the installation of the superuser package that the version is 3.0.7 for android 2.0 - 3.2. but i have ICS version 4.0.4

Where did you get 3.0.7? Not from this thread, right? Because you were linked to 3.1.3, here's the link again, just to refresh your memory:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1195049&d=1342168095
FYI 3.0.7 is actually compatible with ICS if you download and install the correct package.

Thanks for the Quick Response Nonverbose. By the way, i am planning to root my Inc S.
So FOR ROOTING, i would like to follow below mentioned thread.
1. Unlock from HTC Dev
2. [GUIDE][02 Aug 2012]Prepare ICS HBOOT 2.02.0002 for S-OFF Downgrade Tool
3. [TOOL][SCRIPT][09 Aug 2012]S-off for HBOOT 1.16 and above[v3.4]
PLEASE CONFIRM WHETHER AM I NEED TO FOLLOW ANY OTHER TO GET COMPLETE PERMENANT ROOT
Another Question, I have not yet unlocked the bootloader from HTCDev.com; Before that i would like to get
clarified on following
My Device is running on HTC 4.0.4 ICS with HBOOT 2.02.002 -- it can be unlocked only from HTCDev.com
1. Before ICS update, All Bootloader are unlocked other than HTCDev.com. What are the disadvantage on unlocking from HTCDev.com
2. I have installed the HTC Sync which is came along with my mobile. I Came to know, i need to uninstall HTC Sync keeping the Drivers.
Can i use the HTCSync Drivers instead from this link?
Install HTCDriver3.0.0.007
Download
http://db.tt/9S4iEsg3
3. I am currently having problem with installing any application (.apk) from File Manager. The install button is disabled But when i cleared the media storage, i can install from file manager. But its temporary fix. But I CAN install only from Market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1643065.html
This make me much worried,
During rooting process, i need to install various files (Say, superuser.apk), will this problem in my mobile cause the rooting process to fail?
OR Installing from ADB is different so that i can install and rooting wont be interrupted.
Please help me.. I am worried about point 3, mentioned above.

As you already installed htcsync you wont need to install other USB drivers as the htcsync drivers will remain even if you uninstall it. In fact, you don't actually have to uninstall it, you can just exit the program from your taskbar. I mentioned it in the tutorial only as a precaution, anything trying to interface with the handset could interfere with adb daemon operation.
You don't need to use tpbklakes guide anymore as I have integrated that process into the script.
If you need help with the s-off process, the best place to post is in the scripts thread, I'll be able to respond much faster.
Be aware that s-off is not root, it is setting the security flag to off which enables access to all partitions, you will have to flash superuser or a custom Rom to get root access.
If you cannot install APK's from file manager, it might mean that you have not checked ALLOW NON MARKET APPS in your settings. I think it's in your development menu.

1. Flashing the superuser will also come under this your SCRIPT right?
2. I have already allowed THIRD Party non market apps. But the problem is different, in package installer screen the install button is disabled. Temporary solution is clearing the data in the media application solves the issue. But its The temporary. Whether this will have impact while flashing any files while scripting is executing?

Unlocking the bootloader does not give you root/superuser access. You need to install a custom recovery image and then you can flash SuperSu to get root/superuser access or you can install a custom, rooted ROM.

Go to the general section and follow lynt's guide.... As you have an unlocked bootloader.... Skip those steps.... It's very clear...
Download and Flash a clockworkmod recovery in the bootloader... To download Google it...
Then download a rom and flash it via recovery...
Give a read and try... If you are not confident enough still you have a video on YouTube following lynt's guide...
Start playing!!
