I think the speaker on my One has blown. The sound is very distorted even when on low volumes. Could this be a software issue or is it most likely to be hardware?
I have unlocked the bootloader and flashed the latest version of TrickDroid so I'm not sure where I stand with the warranty.

On HTC warranty - most probably it is void now. You can call them and check if they are willing to fix a rooted phone.
In EU (and I assume you are in UK) you have Statutory Warranty - 2 years.This is regulated by consumer regulations and this comes from EU. This one is NOT void through rooting - http://piana.eu/root. This said - I am currently having serious problems with fixing my S3 this way in Norway (legislation is identical) and I have to go through consumer counsel/tribunal which takes up to 6 months in total...
If you're in a country where covered by appropriate legislation, a Sale of Goods Act law will almost certainly a problem like this so soon after purchase, especially considering you're not at fault.
Check out if your country has such legislation which covers you, and if so ask for a replacement under that legislation. If not, eh... ask politely?

Forgive my ignorance as I have only had Samsung phones the past few years but, shouldn't you just be able to flash back to stock and unroot? I wouldn't think it would be too difficult. However, as I said, I have only had experience with Samsung phones for a while.

The bootloader is nlocked through HTCDev so they have the IMEI. Also when you relock it says 'relocked' instead of 'locked' (exactly like when you mess with pc odin and you flash back to a samsung rom it says 'official' but the flash counter isn't reset). To be able to get back a 'locked' status (so the equivalent of triangle away on samsung devices) you need s-off.

Unlocking doesn't void the warranty more than likely. At least here in the U.S they don't care

Magic isn't allowed on XDA.
I'm gonna report on this tomorrow... I got a couple of pops in my speaker when playing YouTube videos on the lowest volume at first. For some reason when I played music at full volume there were no problems but as soon as I put the volume lower and played a YouTube video every know and then i would get a pop sound.

I just took then phone back to a Phones4U shop and they replaced it there and then. It would seem if the phone develops a fault within 28 days of purchase you can take it back to the retailer instead of HTC. Most retailers wouldn't have a clue if you have unlocked the bootloader and flashed custom Roms so it didnt matter.
As I couldnt find the correct RUU I just took it into the shop with TrickDroid's Rom still installed and they didn't question it at all!! :laugh:

Yours might possibly be a newer batch phone now. Can u check for the iconic 'gap' at the top and bottom or for any overhang.

Oh my god didn't notice that before. Yes there is a small gap at the top, very minor at the bottom. Cant see any overhang.

I have the same issue on my phone. Tried the included Thor movie, speakers crackle at any volume. So many issues with the phone! Still love it, will arrange for a return and exchange hopefully with a second batch phone.

Hi there, do you have the youtube link for the crack sound? I want to try with my New One estimate to arrive tomorrow.
After further investigation, the sound problem only shows up when certain videos are played (hi-def MKVs I think). Sound is fine otherwise, so I think it is a software issue. Can anyone else try THOR on HTC Watch, at the beginning of the film, when it should be silent, do you hear the speakers crackle even at low volumes?
On my replacement handset the bottom speaker has totally gone. No sound coming through it at all. Back to Phones4U :crying:
Wth, how am I suppose to buy this phone online when there are so many problems detected????? I need to buy 4 phones online and the main problem is that I won't even be able to return in case of problems since im from faaar away where HTC has long gone.

I got my fourth HTC One today from the Sprint store, and I still have the same camera issue. After trying to deal with the dumbass customer non-support agent for an hour, I have a fifth HTC One on it's way for another exchange.
Is there any way to fix the issue short of sending it to HTC? I really can't go without a phone for that long. Thanks.

As this has pretty much been confirmed as a hardware issue, no. Sending the phone to HTC seems to be the only solution

Only solution is to send to HTC....the turn around is roughly a week or so from day of shipping to htc and getting it back in your hands...you won't get a sprint replacement with replaced camera module...sorry to second the bad news but it's one of those tough deals but in the end worth it...for more discussion check out the HTC one section topic "purple camera possible fix etc etc"...hope that helps

I never had the purple camera issue until recently. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but it started right after upgrading to 4.4.2

How do you get the camera fixed? Take it that it is HTC that is fixing the issue and not Sprint. There a webpage, E-mail address or phone number to call?

Is it only in low light situations that you are experiencing the purple haze? If so, the 4.4.2 update "Night" option in the Photo Capture Mode eliminates the purple haze for me. I can't remember if this option existed in prior versions, but choosing this option in low light conditions eliminated the purple haze on mine.
I sent my phone into HTC to repair the camera issue and they claimed it is outside of manufacture warranty because the bootloader was unlocked. I thought I had put everything back to normal before I sent it back in but I guess I missed something.
Is it true that this voids the warranty? If so, is it possible to re-lock it to where they cannot detect that it was ever unlocked? Is my warranty permanently voided now that they have my serial number? Do I have any chance of getting this fixed now?
Technically our serial numbers are logged if we've ever used the HTCDev unlock method. That's pretty much all of us.

It might of been because your boot loader doesn't say locked. If your s-off it is possible to make it locked. When I sent mine in I locked it and s-on and updated it. I got mine back without an issue and they fixed the camera.

Going from carbon rom 4.2 to candy kat 4.4 fixed my purple haze on my front facing camera
I just wrapped up a horrible experience sending the phone to HTC. I shipped it off on Thursday, January 30th and just got it back on Tuesday, February 25th. That's almost a month. They didn't even put the phone into their tracking system until Wednesday the 5th and would not cover the repair under warranty because the phone had been unlocked. Every time I contacted them to find out what was going on, it would take them days to get back to me. And when they promised action, it took days more for anything to happen. I had to keep calling in to get them to do anything and I had the sincere impression that they were just trying to get me to take the phone back unrepaired and go away. I certainly wasn't going to pay $200 for their faulty hardware design. The last guy I talked to eventually covered the repair, but only after I finally lost it out of sheer frustration when he admitted that the phone had just been sitting there for three days and was not being repaired like the previous guy had promised it was. For a company that needs customers, they were very actively trying hard to lose me as a customer and have succeeded. Because of this poor customer service, I will never buy another HTC device again.
Did you have to talk to an "RMA" to get it through? I've called them twice since the claim was denied, and the second time they told me an "RMA" would call me within 24-48 hours but usually it only takes a few hours. It's been almost 24 hours now and I haven't heard anything.

I had to send an email to someone in the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) department absolving HTC of any responsibility if anything happened to the phone after the repair and acknowledging that the phone would no longer be under warranty after the repair. It still took them a week after I wrote that email to even begin the repair, and even then, it was only after I got upset on the phone that the guy I was talking to grudgingly authorized the repair. I'm still pissed about it and although I'm glad I'm not using my old backup Mogul anymore, I don't even like the HTC One anymore either because of this. Seriously, never again.

Are you at least satisfied w/ the repair work? Is it worth it to battle them while they have my phone, or should I just get it back ASAP. I too am tired of using my backup Nexus S.

I've only had the phone back for a full day, so I don't have a long term opinion yet about the quality of the repair, but the camera does not exhibit the purple tint anymore. Absolutely no documentation was included in the box, so I have no record of what they did. I'm not surprised. Honestly, if I had known what a hassle it was going to be, I would have just swapped it via insurance (3rd party, not Sprint's) and taken my chances. The two guys I talked to were very accusatory in tone and kept asking what OS I had loaded on the phone. I'm assuming they meant ROM, but they specifically said "OS", as if you can load something other than Android? I only had stock Sprint ROMs on there, but must have missed something when relocking the device that pissed them off. It's like they were reading from the script "How to lose a customer".
I'm actually shocked to hear so many people having issues with reps on their repairs... I've done 2 (one for camera, other for speakers) and each time it went pretty smoothly besides slight delay for "warranty voiding damage to case" which halted speaker repair by 3 days which was quickly straightened out by RMA dept following day...im personally fully stock and it seems like unlocked bootloaders/changed roms are a biggie that is basically just a hold up til it's explained/resolved...I know it's a pain but at same time users ARE warned about warranty voiding because of it...

I used the HTC dev website to unlock it, and the verbiage there is vague in my opinion, or maybe I'm just biased and I'm reading it to my favor. But it does not explicitly say that unlocking your device voids the warranty, it says "It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty." To me this means that unlocking the bootloader may have a negative effect on your phone, and that negative effect may not be covered under warranty. This does not say that by unlocking your bootloader, you are absolutely 100% voiding your warranty. The camera issue is not caused by unlocking the bootloader, therefore, it should be covered.
Am I being naive about this?

That is exactly how I read it. The wording is vague, and the actual warranty makes no mention of it whatsoever. And regardless, this is not a bootloader issue or even a software issue. It's a hardware defect. But in my conversations with the HTC reps, they were treating me as if I had physically disassembled the phone, dragged a screwdriver across the circuit board a few times, then taped it all back together and claimed it was their fault. That was bad enough, but the fact that every interaction took several days for them to do anything just really put me over the top. The last guy I talked to tried to claim that they only had the phone a week, but when I walked him through every the timeline of every interaction that I had logged, he mumbled "oh, yeah, well some of those notes are in another system that I can't see". Ugh.
I'm going to RMA my One due to the camera tint issue. I RUU'd back to stock, however the bootloader is showing I'm on HBOOT 1.56 locked and S-OFF.
Does anyone know if this will be an issue for the RMA? If so, how can I go back to locked/s-on?
Just to clarify: Stock --> moonshine S-OFF --> RUU 3.05.651.6 (fail) --> RUU 3.05.651.6 (success) --> OTA 4.06.651.4 --> Now

Check around the threads. Rootlinux created a boot loader masking script, that I belive will appear to be bone stock. Or pm him and ask, he is a helpful guy.

I was able to fix this with "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3", now locked/s-on.

Lol that's what I did about 2 days ago. Phone just arrived at Houston this morning . Kinda worried about how it goes though hoping they don't charge me for anything.

If you ask me HTC should fix the camera issue with out question. I see more stock unrooted users with the problem then rooted users. HTC see's a opportunity to get out of spending money to make things right. I been a HTC user for a long time and things like this really bothers me and i may go with a different brand next time around.
FYI, I've done about five insurance claims/replacements and each one that was returned was rooted/rommed and I've never had any issues, I've just usually had to pay the 100(twice) or 10(three times) bucks (old phone was an evo 3d, super cheap)

An insurance fix is at your expense and covers everything from water damage to user stupidity which is why they don't care if you had a custom rom or were rooted. A warranty exchange for the camera issue is covered by HTC and the end user usually only pays shipping.

Ahh okay, I guess that makes a difference.
I have this problem with mine and sent it out however due to it saying relocked on the boot loader they now want to charge me 200 to fix a hardware defect. I guess I should have done better locking it. But come on this should have been a recall and should not matter whether or not in warranty. I'm not asking to get a brand new phone just want this fixed. Will keep everyone updated as I get more updates from them.

I've shipped mine out to HTC. I don't suspect any issues as it appears to be completely stock, but we'll see.
I'll update when I get it back from them.
Mines on its way back should be getting here Monday . I s-offed via revone and I used revones tools to lock and s-on prior to ruu back to 4.1.2 and just updated till KK. After all that I sent it in and all went smoothly, no charges nothing. Just waiting for my phone to get here to test the camera.

Just got my phone back . Seems like no charge was place and they did fix my camera sensor and they also raised my power button a little since it was sinked in. So far everything seems good. Anyone know how to check the camera sensor revsion and date?
Update to my situation.
I got a phone call from the escalation team from HTC the guy said that normally because the boot loader was unlocked they don't cover it under warranty. However since they found a stock rom on the phone they would honor the warranty and he also said that they already had the phone in repair. Basically he was calling as a courtesy to keep me in the loop. I was so relieved by this and this certainly restored my faith in HTC and will continue to support them. This happened last week and the phone should be back tomorrow. Will let everyone know how it goes

I didn't hear from HTC at any point, but the phone left Houston the same day it arrived. Hopefully it was a quick fix. Should be here tomorrow, so we'll see.
Got my phone back with the camera fixed
Phone was wiped, but still on HBOOT 1.56 Locked/S-ON.

Some have issues with whatever and some don't. Best to read for yourself. ?
If you want full root, stay away from Verizon, at&t and Republic Wireless. With those you can't unlock the bootloader. If you get something with 4.4.3 or less on it, you can PAY for a bootloader unlock, maybe it will work. If you are on 4.4.4, There's no root for locked bootloaders on those 3 carriers. And no temp roots either.
That's the biggest thing to know in advance.

The model I'm getting is T-Mobile OEM factory unlocked (so I can use my provider, Immix) so I should be able to get the unlock code very easily from Motorola. I saw something about a camera update, what's that about?

Yup, you should be able to unlock the bootloader. A warning tho... It does technically void the warranty.
The camera is average... Tho even the best camera phones out there are mediocre and generally no where near as good as even a very cheap camera camera. Personally, I'd never let the performance of a phone camera play into my decision to buy which phone.
The best way to ensure good pics when you know in advance you are going to be taking pics... Is bring a camera. Phone cameras are always going to disappoint when it matters most.
That's just my opinion though. My phone is just a camera for those spur of the moment times... And my expectations are low... But at least I got something. ?
I'm okay with voiding the warranty, since I almost never have any hardware issues, and software issues are (almost) always fixable.

Unbelievable.
The phone had been playing up for 2 weeks, shutting down between 70-40% battery for no good reason. I flashed 5.1 again and factory reset it. Surely that is enough to un-root it? Or do they have some special way of telling if it's been rooted before?
At the moment it seems they are posting it back to me, so I'm down the £7 in postage to them, and I now have a faulty £500 phone.
Anyone know what I should do?
I originally rooted it with 'CF-Auto-Root-shamu-shamu-nexus6.zip' and run the 'root-windows.bat' - believe while in fastboot?
I also flashed the 5.1 update straight from the google website - also through fastboot I believe..
But I do remember when I booted it up just before packing it up, that the unlocked padlock wasn't there...
I even tried google but they won't RMA it because I didn't buy it from them.
Well ,I presume that Motorola or any other company would not accept a Bootloader unlocked device .

The phone had been playing up for 2 weeks, shutting down between 70-40% battery for no good reason. I flashed 5.1 again and factory reset it. Surely that is enough to un-root it? Or do they have some special way of telling if it's been rooted before?
At the moment it seems they are posting it back to me, so I'm down the £7 in postage to them, and I now have a faulty £500 phone.
Anyone know what I should do?
I originally rooted it with 'CF-Auto-Root-shamu-shamu-nexus6.zip' and run the 'root-windows.bat' - believe while in fastboot?
I also flashed the 5.1 update straight from the google website - also through fastboot I believe..
But I do remember when I booted it up just before packing it up, that the unlocked padlock wasn't there...
I even tried google but they won't RMA it because I didn't buy it from them.

Did you flash the entire factory image, including userdata and cache? Are you sure that you relocked your bootloader?
just something to know and live by.. generally, only google will except devices with an unlocked bootloader(with root) for exchange or repair. sometimes you can get away with it from other companies, but only google would give you no issues with it.
Where did you buy it? Could try returning it to them after a full factory / relock
It was relocked after I did the full flash to 5.1 as per googles android website (the flash-all.bat route).
Someone has told me there is a status flag? 0 = locked, 2 = re-locked, 3 = un-locked.
So maybe when I locked it again for stock, it was set to 2, how can I change it to 0? Maybe that will 'fool' them at least....

2 is stock. I have one that is 100% stock , never rooted or unlocked and it shows 2. My only guess would be you left some root files on the device. After you flashed back to stock did you wipe data/ factory reset?

I completely flashed everything, so there wouldn't be anything left. I then did a factory reset just for added mesasure! So far I can't see how they knew it was rooted. As it's impossible that it was rooted when they got it. So there's either something secret or they're lying so they don't have to repair or replace it....?

Well if they are lying then ask them to provide proof that it was "rooted" at the time they received it. If they cannot provide any proof then there are some sales of goods act stuff you can start applying on them.
You have a warranty on the device provided that the phone is not modified in any way that would void this warranty.
Motorola are are bunch of pricks when it comes to Customer Services, i wanted to send back my Moto X 2nd Gen which had an unlocked bootloader. Even though they accepted bootloader unlocked phones, it didnt reach the customer service team and i was refused, and then told later once they received the memo that i could return it. I ended up selling it on ebay for more than i paid for it which turned out alright

Just as an update from my post last week:
Dear xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
I have now heard back regarding your Nexus 6 unit. After carrying out the initial repair the engineers at our repair centre then discovered a more serious fault with the battery on the phone as it started to swell during their testing.
As this battery swelling issue is irreparable we are instead going to exchange your phone for a new unit. Unfortunately the repair centre do not have any spare Nexus 6 units in stock at the moment. They are currently awaiting delivery of new stock. As soon as this arrives they will dispatch a new unit to you.
Please accept my apologies for any further inconvenience that this causes you. We will try our best to get this resolved as soon as possible for you.

Good result it seems. New phone. Not sure what changed their mind though, because apart from moaning to the online chat guys (who appeared useless) I didn't actually contact the repair guys, I just expected them to return it and I would take things from there.
But the more serious point here is if you experience these issues with the battery that I did (random shutdowns between 70-40%) then you may find that your battery starts to swell and who knows what could have happened to me or my home after that....

Any tips mate i have unlocked bootloader with stock back on. Did you have to send in receipt as mine is on contract did not keep any details.

I very strongly believe that this is a chicken-and-egg problem. Generally, the battery reading problem is a software problem, BUT, it can probably lead to overcharging, which causes swelling. There is a bootloader procedure to reset the battery data that should be performed *immediately* when it starts exhibiting "early shutdown" symptom.
I also suspect that the quick-charge chargers are supplying more current than the battery itself is capable of taking, increasing the battery temperature and prematurely aging it. My personal recommendation is to limit yourself to 5 volt at 1 amp.
