Hi guys / gals... I've stumbled on a fix to make the Xbox 360 wireless controller work with our nexi..
I basically adapted this from the fix in the galaxy s3 forums. Credits go to that man!
This requires a USB wireless receiver for your controller and a USB otg adapter
Using terminal emulator type...
Code:
su
cd system/usr/keylayout
mount -o remount, rw /system
cp Vendor_045e_Product_028e.kl Vendor_045e_Product_0719.kl
chmod 0644 Vendor_045e_Product_028e.kl
chmod 0644 Vendor_045e_Product_0719.kl
exit
exit
Then reboot and enjoy
Have only tested on one game myself but all was working well
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Nice. Not able to test it yet though, since I don't have the wireless receiver.
Any way to get it working via Bluetooth, without the receiver?
Not an Xbox controller since it doesn't use Bluetooth
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express
Tested and is working fine on my Nexus 7. Shadow Gun is now playable =D
For those of us that don't have the wireless received the wired one works without any mods at all. Just plug in a usb-otg cable then the controller and go. Checked it on sonic 4 episode 2. Note that it may need some sort of mapping software to work with other games...

Waiting for my OTG cable to arrive (hopefully today!) then I will be trying this.
Is there anything that needs to be done when I'm done using the controller? Is it safe to just unplug it?

should be fine just to unplug, nothing is mounted anywhere, basically you just reprogram the system so it knows what's plugged in.
Cool, I'll try this when I get home. I've been using a wireless 360 controller as a remote for XBMC on a media center PC. I'm gonna need to download some games first though.

This does work. I actually made a post on this in this forum a couple weeks ago. I have a video that overviews the issue as well as a video showing how to solve the problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792531
Some people do not have the file on their Nexus 7 for some reason. I also have attached in that thread the xbox controller keymap file that makes this work.
Hey guys, I'm coming from the GS3 forums and need your help.
Saw this before and that was really impressive.
But the main thing is, that nexus 7 supports natively the xbox 360 controller and we GS3 users would need those keyboard layout (or whatever) files to make it work with the s3. Cause personally I dont want to use mapping software, cause this is mostly crap and doesnt work properly.
It would be a giant breaktrough if you guys could help us desprate gs3 users to make the 360 controller work, no matter if wired or wireless, I have both of them^^
thx in regards
alex
Q
works in galaxy s3 ?

Hey all, Just wondering if there is a way to get an Xbox 360 joypad working on the Galaxy note.
I have the OTG adaptor here, But If i recall correctly, joypads only work on Honeycomb.
Anyway, Connecting it up just makes the 360 joypad ring of light flash and then nothing.
Is there an app that adds support or is it a kernal only kind of thing.
I think it would be great to get it working on it as the galaxy note is amazing for gaming and my iControlpad doesnt cut it.
Code:
I'm running Midnote3 at the moment. My wireless keyboard and mouse are recognized through an OTG cable
The wireless Xbox receiver is not though. It gets power and connects to the controller, but does nothing else.
I've seen it working on honeycomb and ICS tablets. Surely it should work on the note.
Has anyone tried with an AOSP or AOKP rom?
How are these USB-OTG devices recognized?
What files do we need to recognize additional devices?
Would it be possible to port something from the Motorola Xoom?
edit:
USB/BT Joypad Center 1.93 recognizes an Xbox 360 controller, the light stops blinking and the controller is set to "1"
It doesn't get any input though.
Does anyone have version 5 of the above mentioned app? Maybe it works on that one.
Still think it's a kernel/driver issue.
edit2:
Flashed Imilka's v08. The controller is still not recognized.
edit3:
After some Googling I found that we need xpad.ko and ff-memless.ko in /lib/modules/.
Or we need to put them on the sdcard and run:
Code:
# insmod /path/to/file/ff-memless
# insmod /path/to/file/xpad.ko
This has to be done after each boot so we should make a startup script.
However, when I try to do this with the files found in this post. I get the following error:
Code:
insmod: init_module 'ff-memless.ko' failed (Exec format error)
I think these files are compiled for the Asus eee Pad Transformer, so they will not work on the Note.
My theory is, that if we take the source files from a Ubuntu distribution like this guy here.
And compile it for the Note, we should be able to insmod xpad.ko and ff-memless.ko
Hi everyone. I'm looking for controller for Optimus 4X HD to play games like Shadowgun, Sonic 4 or GTA III (I never played this game) on my HD TV. To be honest, I'm fan of Xbox 360 controller, so maybe you know similar design controllers, which would work on mine 4X HD?
Not aware of any xbox looking bluetooth controllers but PhoneJoy might work for you, though it's a copy of a PS controller.
I think you can connect a wired xbox controller to your phone.

According to this at least the Tegra chipset should support usb controllers such as the Xbox 360 wired controller.
http://www.tegrazone.com/support/game-controller-support
However from what I can gather from this forum USB OTG is not supported on the 4x. I dont know if these 2 are connected or not so maybe you should ask someone who has more experience with this phone.
The Moga Gaming Controller looks pretty good. It's also compatible with quite a few Gameloft games. I'm very tempted to buy it but it doesn't seem to be available in the UK. I would have to order shipping from US.

Actually it works fine only with wireless bluetooth controller(like PS3) but not with wired or receiver based wireless controller(Like X-Box).
I have PS3 wireless dual shock3 controller - all I needed to do is to connect it via Bluetooth using any app(I used SixAxis) as soon as its connected you don't need to configure anything else for above list of tegra games since they support controller by default however for other games you'll also have to create on-screen touch profile so you can play
I enjoyed hours(~4-5hrs) of game play with controller specially when connected to my 50inch tv - phone gets hot but who cares if it runs game buttery smooth until battery drains off completely
But I still feel this mhl concept is downgrade technology it would have been much better with separate HDMI port and fully functional USB port so we can have more options for USB devices simultaneously with TV viewing.

I don't think it can be possible because the USB port is not able to deliver enough power to the attached device, however I think it can be possible if we can deliver power from separate source.
In any case I wont be able to use TV-Out function and USB devices simultaneously since both uses same usb port.

It might work... On my old tablet, I simply connected a USB hub to it and then I could use my USB keyboard and mouse @ the same time... plus i wanted to watch a movie that I had on my USB stick, so I also connected it to the hub and the keyboard, the mouse and the USB stick were working... so if we could get the USB port working, this should work too...

Due to how 5-pin MHL works, you can only do either HDMI out or USB at any given time. You cannot ever do both simultaneously.
i bought this one.. unfortunately...
i recently bought a bluetooth ps3 compatible controller for 10€ on amazon (not allowed to post links, <10 posts)
search amazon-de for "DualShock Wireless Bluetooth Game Controller-Golden" by "generic"
well at least it says "bluetooth" in the description and on a sticker glued to the thing.
i havent been able to register a bluetooth signal from this, be it on the phone or on the pc with a usb bt dongle.
so i guess it in reality is a 2.4GHz Wireless pad (not bluetooth) or its just broken.
i wont send it back, because i pity the seller, he sent me this for 10€ from the USA.
i think that the production costs and delivery ate up the 10€, he probably put in the wrong price for his offer, so i let it be.
but i will test this on a real ps3 today and if its not working i put it into the trashcan and let you know.
still wasnt able to connect even a wiimote to my phone, but thats perhaps because the only wiimote i got here and that wasnt grabbed by my niece is a bit broken (doesnt sync anymore when pressing 1+2, only when i press the buttons next to the batteries, and that doesnt seem to work)
so i still search for a way to connect a controller to my phone without buying an original ps3 controller for 45€

Is there any USB receiver for your new controller? B'cause I have Thrustmaster 2.4GHz wireless PS3 controller but it had receiver so all 2.4GHz controller will have a separate receiver (Like small pendrive) which will receive controller signals. If not then it should be bluetooth controller.
Also phones default bluetooth app will not search your device no matter what you press on your controller, to pair your new controller you have to have bluetooth controller pairing app - I am using "SixAxis Controller" without which my Original PS3 Bluetooth Controller is useless.
Also any bluetooth controller should work it doesnt need to be PS3.
If you need any more details just search about it, if anything specific you can always ask me here.
yesyes
I have the Sixaxis Controller app, but as i said the controller isnt recognized even by the pc.
but you are right, theres no receiver, so it should be bluetooth.
oh my, i guess its broken and useless in the end
what else did i expect from a 10€ offer...
but still i will try it on a ps3 today.
maybe theres some sort of magic and it works^^
yay!
Well, magic it was.
I just had to use the "Sixaxis pair tool"
Connecting is done like that:
1. Start Sixaxis Controller App, dont click on "Start" yet.
2. Start the Sixaxis Pair Tool, available from http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/tool.html
3. Connect the PS3 Pad to your PC via USB
4. After the Sixaxis Pair Tool has found your controller, enter the Phone's bluetooth address (as seen in the Controller App) into the Sixaxis Pair Tool window and click "Update". You change the comtroller's "master" to the phones address with this.
5. Disconnect the Controller USB cable
You can now click on "Start" in the Controller app, the controller will pair with the phone.
You dont need a profile for Dead Trigger, so its ok to test with it.
Just activate "native gamepad emulation" in the Sixaxis input preferences.
If you need profiles for games, you can find some here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956604
you can install them as described in the thread or just go to settings -> input methods -> sixaxis controller -> preferences -> touch profiles and import it there, after this you can choose it in the Controller App. (Notice: import it in the settings, chose it in the App. 2 completely different places.)

I think any replica of DualShock 3 should be cheap and fine, I bought original DS3 for ~54$ however I was getting Chinese make good bluetooth controllers for half the price (~25$). I am talking about branded pads (RedGear, Amigo) but these pads are not available every where.
As LamerDuck mentioned his un-named PS3 controller(for 10€ ) is working fine so even cheapest one should be fine for casual gaming.
However i feel below controller looks quite good and very similar to my DS3, At least its properly packed and looks good check out below links:

Bought my N5 at carphonewarehouse in the UK today and very happy. USB Otg working fine (tested with ant+ garmin uploader), and USB Ethernet also working. The Ethernet required root to run 'netcfg eth0 up' followed by 'netcfg eth0 dhcp'. Some apps complain and won't use it, but others are happy. Fantastic news that the Ethernet kernel modules are there and ready to use - top marks to Google. (I'm using the common asix chipset USB Ethernet adapter and a random Otg cable from amazon)

What do people use this for? I know it has to do with hooking up other USB devices to it but I am just curious how this can be used that excited people. I don't know much about it.
Info page states.... Google: Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 (2012 Original & 2013 New), Nexus 10; all require third-party software or device being rooted

One use case I can think of is when you are on holiday, your SD card for your camera is filling up and you need somewhere to save those pictures without a laptop.
Or just to carry around more files than your phone has storage for, like films for watching on a long flight,
+1. I use it for extra storage, and also for usb peripherals such as ant+ to get runs off my garmin.
For info, here's the script I'm running when I want to use ethernet. Plug the cable in, run this as root, then manually disabled wireless LAN.
#!/bin/sh
netcfg eth0 up
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.200 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default gw 192.168.1.1 dev eth0
setprop net.dns1 192.168.1.1
ping -c 1 192.168.1.1
netcfg
Is that Unix code?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'm no Unix expert, but it's a fairly simply Unix script. The ifconfig line has wrapped though on the paste, so watch that if you use the above.

Tx for the feedback.
Will Google Play Music map a USB drive to play music locally or we'll need other music players?
You can do this with Google play music - you have to map a symbolic link from the data cache folder to a location on the external storage. Search about - plenty of links to how-to.
Does this mean the N5 can read from external storage, without root and everything?
Not sure about not needing root, but take a look at Stickmount. Root is very quick and easy - always the first thing I do with a new phone!

USB OTG with Stickmount
I can confirm that USB OTG works with Stickmount if you root using Chainfire's root image.
If you do not root using Chainfire's method, the mounting service may not be able to run correctly and basically just hangs there.

If you really wanna use your Xbox One Controller, you can use an otg-adapter to plug in the wireless-adapter of your controller. If this doesn't work for you, you have to root your device and set up the controller via an extra app. An easier way to play emulator games on your tablet is using your smartphones as bluetooth controller. For this method you don't need to root your phone. Just load the app "BT Controller" via Playstore on your phone and your tablet and follow the instructions to connect them via bluetooth and easiely setup the buttons layout. You can set up 4 smartphones as controller at the same time
Hope i could help you

i have tried it with OTG, wired and using an adaptor.
the tab sees the controller when its wired using the USB/BT joystick centre but thats as far as it goes, no key presses on the pad register.

I can confirm this; I use a Playstation 3 controller via OTG and an adapter regularly. I always start the Sixaxis app whenever I do, but not sure if I need to... I haven't even tried using it with blutooth, but it's an easy way to switch the IME to the controller.
Hiya guys. First post, needing help with an Alcatel Idol 4 (I know this is an Idol 4S thread, but there is no Idol 4 thread). Bought me a USB OTG cable, and an Xbox 360 Wireless receiver, planning to use my wireless Xbox 360 controller to play some GTA: San Andreas, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and some other games. For some reason, it won't connect to my Xbox 360 controller. I connected it to my computer, and it connected. I connected a USB mouse to the OTG cable, and it detected a mouse. How do I get this to work? Do I need to root my phone or something? Please answer ASAP. Update: Tried it on my ancient Samsung Galaxy Note 2, still didn't work, so at least I know it's not working with multiple devices.
Permissions?
After researching a bunch, I've found that my phone does not have the right permission. I downloaded the correct permission, and tried to push it via ADB. Got a small problem: my system was read only. I tried the command to turn the read only to read/write, but the permission was denied. After a little more research , I found it (might) need root. Any tips, like do I need to do a different command? Rooting is not an option, as this phone is fairly new, so there isn't a root made for it yet ( that I know of). Please help a fellow tweaker.
