So 2 days ago guys from 4pda.ru ported android 2.2 on GT540, it is installed on sd card and you can choose between 2.1 and 2.2.
Here is youtube video:
And here is link on thread on 4pda:
PDA
so why would I need to switch between 2.1 and 2.2? I guess this is just a preliminary POC and a custom rom is now in the works.
can't wait! great job russians!

Maybe cos 2.2 isn't supporting FM/Camera/BT right now and is booted from SD.
Thank god for the Russians! And great job finding this.

The Rom is not even released yet, nor it will be released soon. Its in I wouldnt even call it Alpha version yet.
You can find some info there:

__________
Written with Tapatalk on GT540
gonna make a video and read tut of it
and some video of it working ofcourse!
ported only basic functions, engineer version posted atm... No final version...
Direct link to some work and explanation in russian is here: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=200838 But it is stated as version for developers and professionals only, because it is lacks some functions, half working wi-fi, some problems with bluetooth and it's still in test mode. You will need to format your sd card, make your phone able to load in fastboot mode and one package for dual booting from above link.
You will need following apllications:
Dual boot loader from here: http://narod.ru/disk/122844001/ankuch2.2-oss.img.html
Copy of /system folder: http://narod.ru/disk/41926001/ankuch2.2.tar.html
1. Prepare your sd card
type of disk MBR;
part0/primary - fat16 - sdcard - 128MB+. No reason to create more;
part1/primary - ext2 - system - 256MB+, you can put more if you will put some applications in /system/app;
part2/primary - ext2 - data - 256MB+.
I recommend it to partition in 10/10/80.
If you got a big card and use phone to view video, you can make first partition bigger.
2. After SD card prepare, you will need to load and copy content of /system folder from ankuch2.2.rar archive
Making final phase in 2.1:
1. Mount /system in mode r/w (you can mount it, for example, from RootExplorer - select /system and press button mount r/w)
2. adb shell
3. su
4. mkdir /system/s8
5. mount -t ext2 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/s8
6. cd /system/s8
7. busybox tar -x -f /data/ankuch2.2.tar
Loading 2.2:
Enter fastboot mode
We load 2.2 - fastboot boot ankuch2.2.img
No loading animation yet, you will need to wait until will be filled content of /data folder
First load can take a long time, you can control it thru adb shell logcat.
adb, btw, I did in first time and from root it loads.
Sorry for mine english Fast translation
Problems and some solutions to avoid them:
1. How to put data transfer?
adb shell
stop ril-daemon
start ril-daemon
-- Can be some problems with APN not loading from SIM card, so you will need to put configuration manually.
-- Connection always will be like EDGE, even if really you getting HSDPA
2. How to get rid of lag in transitions?
Try this:
Spare Parts -> Window animations -> Off
Spare Parts -> Transition animations -> Off
Once I got bugged rild, loaded cpu to 100% and almost halted all apps, thats why from link in russian forum you will see some pics of processes.
You can turn it on:
Dev Tools -> Development Settings -> Show running processes
Changed those options too:
Dev Tools -> Development Settings -> Disable compatibility mode (requires to reboot device)
After this author does not get any hangs.
3. How to connect to Wi-Fi
It is required to copy from your 2.1 file wpa_supplicant.conf to /data/misc/wifi (in this file it is saved all your information about connections)
Change permisions from file chmod 777 /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf (author did not tested more secure permisions) or reboot device
rest in here -> Settings->Wireless & network->Wi-Fi (turn on Wi-Fi)
Hi, I installed GingerDX v14 7 days back into my Xperia X8i. This ROM is working fantastic and with all function. One problem I found that my phone can not connect with Adhoc Wifi connection with my laptop. When I try to connect the cell tries for 5 to 8 mins and reboots automatically. But with my Wifi router it has no problem. Can some one help me?

@Flypants101010 : yes sir, I also have stock kernel with GingerDX v14. Still now we dont have any option to solve. I searched forum for the solution but I didnt find any. If you get some I request you to remember me please and share.
i have an idea we could change the tiwlan.ini in /system/etc/wifi like in the mod for faster
wifi (N standard mod) it says that the mod enables n standard and wifi adhoc im going to try it!
i use gingerdx 017 and i had try your sugestion, i change to faster mode wifi (n standard mode), but the problem was not solved.
I think gingerDX not yet support wifi hotspot. Can try app like Barnacle from market (saw somewhere in this forumn work well, haven't tried yet).
Well you're luck cuz I don't have any wifi or bt now (after installing GDX v17)
anyway, if you want to connect your phone with laptop I can help there is app called connectify (it's cool really) give it try.
I hope I helped
guys, nothing helped me. the problem remains same. ugraded to v17
do a clean install make sure u do a full wipe and all your wifi problems and bluetooth problems should have disappeared ive never had any problems with wifi or bt when using the method i just told you
Even after clean install of GDx V019, then full wipe, X8 fails to connect to Ad-hoc N/w on my laptop. It fails to get the IP address. But there is absolutely no problem in connecting with wifi.

Ad-hoc
I have same problem, phone reboot after screen timeout while connected to ad-hoc network but it doesn’t happen when I am charging my phone?? Any cure?
just installed gingerDX v021, and the problem goes on...
When connected with adhoc, when screen turns off, it reboot...
Any solutions?
AdHoc Problem
Hi,
I found out the solution, it worked gem for me. All new custom ROMs comes with Wifi N standard enabled and as per developers N standard does not support Adhoc connectivity. So simply we need to disable the N standard if you frequently use Adhoc or you don’t have N standard routers.
Follow this steps:
- Launch Root Explorer.
- go to: /system/etc and find a file named tiwlan.ini(Path for miniCM RC1 or CM6). For CM7 based ROMs the path may be /system/etc/wifi. And copy this file to SD card??
- Now copy(tiwlan.ini) file to your computer via USB cable. And open the file using Notepad.
- Look for these below mentioned lines and change them from 1 to 0 (use ctrl+f to search in notepad)
HT_Enable=1 ---> HT_Enable=0
BurstModeEnable = 1 ---> BurstModeEnable = 0
Single_Dual_Band_Solution = 1 ---> Single_Dual_Band_Solution = 0
(CAUTION: DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE OR USE SPACE JUST REPLACE 1 WITH 0)
- Now copy the edited tiwlan.ini from your computer to your SD card, and then copy this to its original location by using root explorer with mount R/O enabled and replace the original file, and exit from root explorer without any further changes.
- Go to settings from menu and go to wireless & network>Wi-fi setting and clear all the network(SSID) name you used before by long pressing the name and then select forget network.
- Restart your phone and enjoy??
If useful pls hit the thanks button.
thanks dude worked charm for my friend x8
it worked for me after I unlocked my bootloader and flashed alfs 07 ics kernal and used gdx 22 and it works perfectly and better performance
Great to hear this some people successfully connected to Adhoc wifi.

It was a good advice at the time of the writing, but GingerDX v29 already contains these modifications.
I tried wifi hotspot function using two X8 phones, both running GingerDX v29. As I also had "error" always when I tried to start it. Interesting thought my X10 mini Pro (also running GingerDX v29) was working as a hotspot using the same menu item.
Then I realised what is written in the first post:
GingerDX v029 (29-09-2012) - huuuuuuuuge update:
Based on MiniCM shakira device tree
CM nightly dated on 28/09/2012
New devices officially supported from now (Xperia X10 Mini, Xperia X10 Mini Pro, Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-5830 - thanks to CallMeVentus)
Updated Google Play Store to 3.8.17
Removed Nemus Launcher
Added Holo Launcher 1.2.4
Added Google Authenticator
Spare Parts/Dev Tools
Ultra-brightness

Which was the problem the X8's had. As custom kernels require unlocked bootloader and they should be produced before 11w29 as the guide says:
If your phone's manufacture date is 11W29 or PAST 11W29, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER. IT WILL MOST LIKELY RESULT IN A HARD BRICK

Hello xda-kaiser-android community
My configuration is :
SDCARD with 4 partitions :
FAT16 with Haret, zimage, inird, default.txt
SYSTEM (ext2)
DATA (ext2)
swap
I've managed to launch Android, and the phones does work.
Unfortunately, at the moment, some other things does not work :
WIFI : fails when getting the IP (so I scan WIFI networks well, but there is a problemn when creating the network interface...)
Modem : does not work..
Camera : not very important for the moment, but can become more...
So, I wanted to dump log files and try, with the terminal, to guess what is happening, but I COULD NOT MANAGED to SU ROOT (as a Linux user, I don't feel comfortable when I cannont be root on my personnal machine)...
When launching the "SuperUser" program the Applist is empty ?
When I set suid and root:root ownership of /bin/su on the SYSTEM partition, when SD mounted on my computer, It is not preserved when used inside Android...
After some inspection of the init scripts (see here under), my question is :
WHY SYSTEM PARTITION IS NOT MOUNTED with ROOT privileges ??
WHY is it chowned to the user 1000:1000 ?
Code:
# mount and set perms
$BB mount -o noatime,nodiratime -t auto $PARTITION $SD_EXT_DIRECTORY;
if [ "$?" = 0 ];
then
$BB chown 1000:1000 $SD_EXT_DIRECTORY;
$BB chmod 771 $SD_EXT_DIRECTORY;
log -p i -t mountsd "$SD_EXT_DIRECTORY successfully mounted";
Thank you for your comments, any help will be appreciated
Regards
Bernie
I overpost myself : My problem probably comes from the way I extracted the Froyo tarball to the SYSTEM partition...
I'll try again and inform you of my mistake.

why don't you try FAT32 instead of FAT16

Don't extract the froyo tarball. Just place androidinstall.tgz and androidupdate.tgz into the SDCARD andboot folder. Then, after you boot linux, touch and hold the center of the screen, and an install menu will appear. Then select your partitions, install system (and format data partition), install updates, and fix permissions, then exit. Android should start. Be sure your kernel (zImage) and drivers (androidupdate.tgz) match, and it also helps for the initrd.lzma to match. When wifi doesn't work, that usually means the driver is mismatched.
Hi Guys
Thnk you for your answers.
I got a more urgent issue than porting my kaiser to android : I've been forced to move my laptop back to windows again ...
So I must know workaround to dual boot linux (and, believe me, this install of windows is not the standard one)..
But A soon as I can, I will try the install stuff.
thank you again
Heydiho !
Things get better...
I caught eu-froyo-odex and installed it as is after entering the installation menu (launched by init ?)... The su command is now working. I have to tackle a few things now :
Wifi works even worse (now I clealry see an error, where, with the other distro, it was probably a permission issue)
Screen has still odd behaviors
Keymap issue with Keyboard arrows does not work in terminal
And camera to be confirmed
I'll dig the forum for topics on these subjects and get back if I'm really stuck
Best regards
Bernie
Hello
Things goes in the good direction :
Wifi is now ok (was not working with panel 1.. can this be correlated ?)
Screen works better with panel 2, but I'am still not sure if mine is 2 or 3)
Keymap Fixed : was only a matter of using bash insted of default busybox's shell
camera is not working
GPRS modem not working
Battery consumption is high with system on sdcard
Stay tuned !
I am working on a couple of things, specifically a "build.prop" mod and adding a "gps.conf" file to /system/etc, which is just a list of AGPS servers and to fix some GPS issues.
The modded build.prop that I have reworked adds some dalvik cache lines and "sleep mode" lines, as our Kaisers don't have a sleep mode implemented.
Camera and GPRS can be associated with the radio rom installed. I found that on my specific device, radio 1.70.19.09 allowed GPS and data to work smoothly, but I would lose the phone after the first call and camera had just a dark green screen. 1.65.16.25 dropped GPRS but improved data speeds and allowed the phone to work as well as the camera.
YMMV but I would say wipe any trace of WM from that phone (support is ending this May) and go directly with Android via NAND install.
Hello guys
@PoXFreak
I still have some habbits on my WM (freeOTFE encryption, contacts and some other stuffs) that are still working well on WM, and I don't feel very comfortable in switching on full Android (I mean on NAND) while I'am not very used to use Android... I would have definitely preferred to have a working platform booting from sdcard before flashing the NAND, but you confirmed that some issues may be linked to the SDCARD install...
I'm stuck since the beginning of march with the GPRS modem, and I don't clearly understand what are you talking about (have to check what you mean by radio).
My problem is, at the moment, that I don't have any mean to debug : is there a way to activate logs for users spaces programs ? Where to find em ?
If there is a better way to debug, what is it ?
As always, thank you, in advance, for any answer.
I'll try by myself a soon as I can (and, during the last weeks, it was not the case).
Best regards
I will add, moreover, that I'am still not sure of my panel (2 or 3 !!!)
Regards

I dont know if it's me or because of the ROM. WIth the rooted ROM before AOSP, I was able to install Chrome with a APK downloaded from mobilism but sometimes the pages are fine then just rendered white , for all tabs.
Does anybody use SKYPE ? When I do video chat, my broadcast picture stretched vertically when I broadcast-only (no picture feed from the other side), the picture my friend saw is fine though.
Many thanks for your hard work.
That is the main thing that i hate about Lenovo's Factory ICS image, i still cant install Chrome or Evernote, or many of my NEEDED apps. I hope that you get this working soon. or at least a temp fix.
Just flashed the rooted aosp, the boot animation is a nice touch. The app compatibility issue seems fully resolved outside of Chrome, pointed out already, which is no biggie for me atleast. I still can sideload Chrome and runs perfectly. Also, so far the dictionary miss-spell issue doesnt seem to be a problem anymore. Maybe its just me but touch responsiveness seems a little better/quicker with this build. Just tried using the command 'k1recovery' to boot into recovery and it keeps giving me an error relating to permissions, saying it cant create /dev/block/mmcblk0p5. Seems like I just need to change the permissions of the /block folder but wasnt sure if I was just not doing something right.
Massive improvements from Lenovo's vanilla ICS still, thanx khanning!
Noticed some graphical glitches. Screen goes black if switching orientations on lockscreen and home screen.
@Khanning88 Can you provide a mirror please? Goo.im is down and shows "Internal server error".
Never mind. It's up again.

That's great. thanks for share.
Flashed this one and works wonderful.
Rebooting to recovery didn't work 1st, but then mounted filesystem as rw and tried the command and could get to recovery.
Got an error "Can't mount backup path" when trying to make a backup. Is it because I didn't have an external sd card.
If yes, is there a way to take a nandroid backup to internal memory?
BTW, thanks again for providing this ROM.
Thanks khanning88 for giving this fabulous AOSP ROM
Does this ROM support the Wifi+3G version?
I found some issues installing apps, including some games, Zinio magazine reader, google earth, etc, all saying incompatible with my device.
I experienced alot of freezes while restoring my backup with titanium backup.
I keep testing if it also occurs in normal use.
Installed AOSP-Rooted. So far, Chrome (already noted as issue in OP), and POGO Games showing up as Incompatible.
Other than that, and possible other apps being incompatible, looks great and installed as easy as can be.
Thanks Khanning!

I haven't experienced any "freezes" but when it happens to you could you please document what you were doing and take a logcat to help debug.

Here is a very simple way to reboot into khanning's CWM recovery.
1. Playstore --> Download/Install aShell app
2. Run App
3. Select Checkbox for "Root" (In Settings, you can set app to start Root as Default)
4. type "k1recovery" into textbox
5. press "start command" button.
Simple, no need to be in "true shell" mode. This app allows you to run shell commands without the terminal. Great for newbies, quicker for anyone.
Hope this helps!

Here is a quick fix for the hardware keys. Just flash the .zip file from recovery. Updated first post with more detailed booting into recovery instructions.
K1_keylayout_fix.zip
here simple application that will enabled UMS mode for External sdcard
root needed.
how to use:
safe way on version 2.5 is :
enable UMS Mode when cable usb is unplug
Back to Charge mode when cable usb is unplug
safe way on version 3.0 is :
do it on condition usb plugged
note:
if you plug into player or some device player , and you found that it cannot found the USB drive
in this case just do this
settings -> connectivity -> usb connection type
and do press or repress the "Charge Only"
in version 3.0 you will notice 1 triangle on task bar, its normal , it telling you mass storage is currently unmount
2 icon on task bar is telling you the mass storage successful unmount you can take it out
those of notice are normal if we do unmount the mass storage in android api level.
all the information about how to do it i found on XDA forum.
i do some research also code this app
version 2.1

Version 2.1 gives reproducible blue screens with Win7 x64 SP1 at the first link when I confirm the superuser, or in further tries, when connect the USB cable.
Only uninstalling the apk helps to solve the problem.
A little off topic:
After UMS_mode.apk does not work for me, here is another way to access both memory cards in the P880 (and any other Android-Device) from Windows OS:
Install Total Commander (Shareware): http://www.ghisler.com
Install Total Commander Plugin "Android ADB" (Freeware): http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html
Android device driver has to be installed too!
Through links, both SD-Cards appear with 3 differen pathes in the P880 operating system.
The external SD-Card has its mount point in (!) the internal SD-card:
Code:
Internal SD-Card:
\\\ADB\LG-P880\data\media\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\mnt\sdcard\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\sdcard\
2. external SD-Card:
\\\ADB\LG-P880\data\media\external_sd\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\mnt\sdcard\external_sd\
\\\ADB\LG-P880\sdcard\external_sd\

A little off topic:
After UMS_mode.apk does not work for me, here is another way to access both memory cards in the P880 (and any other Android-Device) from Windows OS:
Install Total Commander (Shareware): http://www.ghisler.com
Install Total Commander Plugin "Android ADB" (Freeware): http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html

Wow!
This is the greatest thing created for this phone so far.
MTP is painfully slow, doesn't work with cars/stereos/etc, requires installing drivers everywhere I go, crashes all the time, doesn't allow access with a file path, and somehow caused my sd card to wipe itself three times in two weeks, so this was a major issue for me that was making me regret buying the phone.
Initially after installing this app (v3.0), I had to repeatedly toggle UMS/MTP mode and plug/unplug my phone from the computer several times before it finally started working, but now it's perfect.
If you have a paypal or flattr link, and I'll send something your way. Or put it on the Play Store so I can buy it and update
Thanks!
thanks

I can not confirm unfortunately.
I wanted to give the app still a second chance and have installed 3.0.
Then I restarted the phone, without starting the APP before.
Now it hangs on startup LG boot logo.
Even without the second SD card the same problem.
Any idea without factory reset or flashing KDZ?
My phone is still stuck in boot, but I have an access via adb shell to system.
Unfortunately I have no permission to access "/data"
Could anyone tell me the aplication name of this UMS-Tool under "/data/data" ?
I only found "com.noshufou.android.su" in classes.dex, but don't know wether this is right:
Code:
[email protected]:/data $ run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as: Package 'com.noshufou.android.su' is unknown
[email protected]:/data $
Ok, I guess it's not quite working perfectly for me now that I've used it a bit more, but I still love it.
1) it's really tricky to get it working initially. I almost always have to toggle it multiple times and sometimes reconnect the usb cable.
2) like someone else mentioned, it never remounts the SD card so I have to restart the phone to get it working again after I'm done.
I have not had any problems on boot like BudCord.
I'm running stock firmware 10f.
Anyone have v3 hosted any where else? I can't download from media fire.. no captcha support..
Tried stock browser, dolphin, and chrome..
Any chance to get it working on mac os x (10.6.8) ?
For the moment it is the only default i found with this phone : the lack of "connections" with Apple's OS :/
PS : I searched on the web and I found a solution for Mac OS X users : Android File Transfer (on the official website).
Sorry I can not the url because I am new on this forum.
