Hi,
Apologies for what probably is a very annoying thread, but does anyone know where I can buy a USB OTG cable for my Nexus 7 in London today? I’ve tried pretty much every shop on Tottenham Court Road, mobile phone shops & Maplins on Oxford Street, and apart from being told that such a thing doesn’t exist (apparently micro USB to USB Female is silly because you can just get a gender adaptor on standard USB charger cable), only one shop knew what I wanted – effectively a copy of a Samsung USB cable, but he was sold out.
Any help appreciated.

Basically, just got the X8 today (refurbished) from The o2 Shop.
Technically imo it should be in the box, but they argued that it's a refurbished phone so what's in the box is all you get.......still disagree with that, but they are ignorant *****.
Anyway, was just wondering where the best place to get one would be?
Would I be able to pick up a Sony Ericsson USB from say The o2 Shop?
Cheers in advance.
I don't know about you, but I lost my cable and I had to buy an official one from nokia, because I didn't find one from SE.. xD
just a buy a regular (mirco I think) usb cable
Thanks lads, however fortunately I just found my old BB USB which for some odd reason works fine with my new X8.

Why is it odd? Any micro usb cable works fine, doesn't matter the brand it's universal..
Ah true......bit stupid when it comes to these things
micro usb is universal...
really guys ?
for me, i tried to use other cable for charging & it is not ok
connecting USB is ok.. but not charging
any idea?
i tried with my previous Nokia cable
Any micro usb cable is okay
The problem is the power source.
SEMC standard charger have 850ma current.
Best practice : don't any charger over 850ma current.
U can charge by pluging into usb port on a pc or laptop.it's have 500ma current.

I went on a trip to a friends place, 400 miles away, and I seem to have left my charge cable behind when I departed. (Grabbed the wall wart, but forgot the cable. Still kicking myself) Getting it shipped will be a major pain, so I come here asking for some help clearing up what I dont understand after searching.
What types of cable will allow USB interaction between my PC and my phone and which ones will not?
When I use my girl friends charger, which is mini usb but not intended for a smart phone, it charges fine, but if I use that cable between the computer and the phone I cannot get it to interact.
Sorry for being noobish, but I really did search. Just found a lot of conflicting info...
I (also) don't understand why there's a difference in micro-USB cables.
Micro-usb = micro-usb, right??
Don't these have requirements like HDMI cables?
I find any brand name cable works fine. I've had bad luck with the really cheap generic ones. I have successfully used my HP Touchpad cable and a blackberry branded cable. The connections fit fine and data transferred fine.
The reason your mini (micro?) USB charges and doesn't transfer data could be because it it a charge only cable and if you look in the USB-A end (large end) you may find it only has 2 contacts instead of 4.
As far as I know, any micro USB should work. I use cables from Moto, LG, Samsung, HP (touchpad), and generic at home and all work fine. A lot of the generic ones do die, or develop a defect where they charge only from a particular angle.
When I need a new cable, I hit up monoprice.com for some of the highest quality generic USB cables I have ever used, they have good cables for everything, they are cheap too (lots of places like big box stores re-brand the Monoprice cables and charge WAY more)
your favorite auction site is also a good place to look. I check the "used" box when searching for cell phone accessories to find cables and wall worts people no longer need, that usually still work great.
I have a nokia one that works perfectly if you want it. Just pay $3 for shipping to my paypal. Let me know.

Generally speaking any mUsb cable will work with minor exceptions such as the one that comes with the car dock which is charge only. But no need to guess and no need to bid on an auction and no need to pay big bucks at the Verizon store. Just go here:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SPN5...7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330014705&sr=1-7
and for $4.79 and free shipping you get the cable and the power brick and its even a Motorola branded one if you care about that.

Are there any local PC or cell phone repair facilities?
They could probably help you find the factory cable or point you towards someone who could.
Any where near a US military base?
Soldiers and saliors tend to have connections stateside.
Or you could just make one... It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to work.
also from PH
Hi! I'm wondering if you ever did find one here in PH? My kindle Fire HD "7 is currently stuck in bootloop and I'm dying to fix it. Thanks!
Make or get one made it is easy
the connections are as follows
MicroUSB male Miniusb Male
1 --------- 1
2 ----- --- 2
3 ----------- 3
4 (connect to pin 1)
5 ------------- 4
Buy both connectors and just make above connections. or
take a thick USB cable cut one end and attach new microUSB connector as above. Do not scrap existing microUSB to bare the pins as some connectors have only 4 pins implemented.
I have found that most USB cales use standard color code 1(RED) 2(White) 3(Green) and 4 (Black) but it is better to check using Multimeter which wire is connected to which pin if you are tweaking readymade USB cables.
Its really confusing
im confused on what type of cable i need some are 3ft, 5ft or 79cm. Which one do i buy?????
sorry if this question has been asked already but i looked around and cant find a answer. other than building your own, where can i buy/order one in the US? I want to root my new chromecast but cant find one. a link would be greatly appreciated

Amazon, eBay or even mom-and-pops electronics store, if you can find one nearby, should have it. Or the guy with computers/electronics in the last row of your local flea market may have one....

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I had read that if you have a simple powered usb hub, that will work also?

A powered USB hub should work Just test it out, the worst thing that could happen is that it will boot stock image, just pull the power to stop it.
Hey guys.
I'm in NYC for a few days and I'm looking for an OTG cable, powered or not. At best buy and at radioshack they look at me like I'm asking for the impossible. I'll be in towns until Tuesday, and I'd like to ask if anyone knows a store where I could buy this cable.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to say, I have yet to see a powered OTG cable in a retail store, even my geeky local "has a majority of stuff Monoprice carries" store does not have this particular type of cable.
If B&H Photo/Video has these in stock, it should work (but it'll cost more than getting the OTG cable on eBay)
Pioneer DJC-WeCAi 2.6' DJ Controller Cable - $29.00
Neutrik NAUSB-B USB Female Type-A to Type-B Converter - $5.21 (If you can find an equivalent that's not designed for panel mount, all the better)
Comprehensive On-The-Go USB A Female to Micro USB B Male Adapter Cable (4") - $2.99
-OR- NTW USB Type A Female To Micro USB Type B 5-pin On-the-Go (OTG) Pigtail Adapter - 4" - $5.99
-OR- StarTech Micro USB Male to USB OTG Host Adapter Female (5") - $5.99
$37.20 or $40.20 (if you go with a more-expensive OTG adapter) plus tax...
more expensive than the Chromecast itself but everyone has priorities.
Connections would be:
Pioneer cable RED A (flat) end --> Chromecast wall power adapter
Pioneer cable BLACK A (flat) end --> USB OTG adapter cable
Pioneer cable B (square) end --> USB A-B converter --> plug your USB Stick in here
USB OTG adapter cable --> Chromecast
You might find the right parts to get this cheaper, you just need to plan it out in your head. I was just sticking with stuff B&H has since they're in NYC.
Thanks,
I was planning a visit to B&H, but now it became mandatory.
I'll try the one from #3. I could wait until I get home, but can't leave NYC without rooting or bricking my Chromecast, in my hotel room.

Just so we're 100% clear, you'll need 3 total pieces to make it work - the Pioneer cable, the USB A female to B female adapter, and one of the OTG cables.
I also hope you've already checked your serial number against the rootable serial numbers and you know that the hotel's TV may not have HDMI enabled, and even if it does, its WiFi probably won't allow Chromecast to work.
If you brought your own wireless router, then you only have to deal with the TV though. Actually, if possible, I would take everything you need
with you to B&H. If you explain what you're trying to do, they might let you borrow an input on one of their TVs - then you won't have to worry about the hotel TV being locked, unless you already know it's not.
Good luck!
Just to add these cables are usefull for more than just hacking a Chromecast.
I use one to connect Hard Drives to my Xoom (Tablet) since my ROM supports OTG.
Sn are 3920 3921 3922, this shouldn't be a problem. Ref cables I'll take a look at the links later at the hotel. Thanks for your input.

hello!
As we all know usb type-c cable that we have in our phones is really messed up standard that even if on paper is made to "rule them all", in reality most of companies use their own standards and Quality Check, so we can sometimes end up with cable that dont charge, dont send data or even brick phone(it is possible and really common).
So I have few questions for you all.
1. Do you use only cable that was in box of P9?
2. If no, do you got cheaper cable from china, or you got more expensive ones from branded stores(eg MediaMarkt)?
3. Did you had any problems with cables in P9(normal USB or OTG)?
4. Any visible transfer speed changes over older standard and other cables?
Im asking because even if type-C is almost 3 years old, I still finding out that that standard have really bad design flaws that are really visible when you buy cheaper cables.
P9 is my second device with usb-c, and recently I though that "Chinese market should already learn how to make them" and I bought cheaper cable... that bricked my phone for few minutes... Thanks God is working now without a problem but it just show again that times where cable was just few smaller cables inside plastic wrap is long gone, and now we need to really keep an eye on quality of components THAT ARE INSIDE of cable(+ info of power draw that it can take/send)...
With microUSB I could get even crappiest cable on market for 50cents and it would work perfectly for years, and now Im forced to spend more on such simple thing as cable that can cost even 20EURO for damn 1.5m phone cable....
So what is your thoughts about that standard and quality of cables that you use with your p9?
I use the supplied charger and cable for at home, as may 'main' charger, at work or out and about i use an old usb cable with an adaptor like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/231784587260?lpid=122&chn=ps&adgroupid=33676502101&rlsatarget=pla-270397369803&adtype=pla&poi=&googleloc=1006849&device=c&campaignid=707291931&crdt=0
Hi mate. To be honest, both my charger and cable are still boxed, I've been using a 2.0A Samsung charger since I bought this phone. And considering I have dozens of micro USB cables from old Nokia and Samsung phones I simply bought these Type C adapters:
https://www.amazon.it/dp/B01AU5PEZA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.h8yybFFD2XCH
No issue with charging and data transfer. Can't help you with data speed transfer though.
Here's my reply:
Ad1: No. I use my old Nokia cable with USBC adapter, I bought three cables (see at Ad2), everything working...
Ad2: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/201...3-1-USB-C-Type-C-Data-Charge/32676548325.html
Ad3: No, working like a charm...
Ad4: No, the same...
