now why would gps freeez ?

heya fellas
now here's something crazy going on with my SGS and the gps
started gps from the android power widget bar boom its on
start google maps from the menu and it starts
the map loads almost instantly from last position where i tried the gps
click on menu and choose My Location
phone says waiting for location followed by your current location is temporarily unavailable
so i goto the lbstest to check on how the gps is doing by *#*#1472365#*#*
goto Get position test and nothing shows up for 30-60 seconds
so i click back to homescreen to disable gps and reactivate it only to find out gps not going off on the notification bar and the only way to bring it to life is by a phone restart
happened 4-5 times and after the 6th restart i gave up
whats causing the gps to act like that ?
iv searched around and couldn't find a similar problem with other users
today after work on my way back home i said lets try it again but without the google maps
so gps on -- lbstest on -- get position -- and boom after 16 secs i have 8-11 sats ( mainly stood there with 10 sats for almost 30 secs with mainly high readings of 31 dBHz and up thru-out the list ) with reading from 19 to 41 dBHz as min and max
waited 60 to 120 secs and no lock just showing me that nice long list of sats
now im wondering what in gods name is going on
1. could it be launcher pro ? last installed app ( im loving the whole experiance, much faster than TWlauncher unfortunatly using homeswitcher whenever i need to check for kies updates, launcher pro wont start the mtp app )
2. could it be voodoo V4 lag fix (using the update.zip method) i so doubt a lagfix can do such a crazy thing to gps
someone tell me im not the only one with this problem
next time the GPS "freeze"
just turn off the phone, turn it back on, and it'll work again
from personal experience, it only goes into permanent sleep when it has been iddle for more than 12 hours give or take
so the best prevention, is simply to turn off GPS when you are not using it, rather than keep it ON all the time
i never keep it on , thats the problem
only before using google maps or any thing that requires gps
well just like i said a restart does solve the problem temporarily but keeps on doing that
how soon does the GPS freezes again after you reboot the phone
does it only freeze after you don't use it for a while?
Its totally random, either immediately after starting gps or after switching it on/off 2-3 times
I guess a hard reset could help at this point, totally useless now, can't get a lock no matter what I do

[discovery] Solution for GPS fix on stock based ROMs GB&Froyo

first of all, I'm not sure if this should post on this development forum
but I guess it is a helpful information for the Chiefs here to fix their ROM.
after tones of trials..
I found that, the only way you can ensure the GPS is working on the first time is..
make sure you have select using GPS function before next boot !!
try now and you'll see. nothing to do with gps.conf
nor hidden menu.
If you find your GPS function in current boot is not working..
keep the GPS selected via notification toggle or system setting.
and then reboot.
The key is, make sure GPS function is selected before next boot.
then, your GPS would working correctly !!
hopefully, some chief here could fix this LG induced "bug".
## the same bug is there even for Froyo V10f stock ROM!
please feed back if it works for you also ~
and i hope you guys find it useful..
Of course it has to do with hidden menu. If there are things f*cked up, then a reboot won't help.
Android decides itself when to use GPS, so turns it off, when there is no app running. For that reason, GPS should be always ticked 'on' in settings. This will not drain battery.

Tested it works for fresh install without modifying anything via hidden menu.
just leave your GPS toggle ON before shut down or reboot.
It will working on next boot.
i have found that the gps will work untill u turn wifi on. after that you have
to reboot to get it back.

This is just what I said?!
I meant that if the ROM-baker do something strange to the settings in hiddenmenu, reboot won't help.
-> First, settings must be correct, second, leave GPS always on
For me, reboots are not necessary to get GPS to work.

ok, try turn it off and reboot.
then you'll see it won't work until you leave it ON and reboot again.
I'm not asking if you would leave it ON all the time or not.
I just mean you need to make sure it is ON before any shut down or reboot
in order to ensure it works on next boot up.

if using wifi which mean you can not access the AGPS service via your APN
which mean it would take longer time to fix.
try disable wifi and use your mobile internet again and see..
I am using bulgarian leak v20e and my gps is always off. And whenever i need it i turn it on and it work in 5 seconds.
I never used any Mod or hidden menu and i think this problem is device dependent because i never faced it. I maybe lucky lolzzz

for me it is like squide said.
tested with my friend's very stock out of the box V10f Froyo.
The same trick is needed!
He has never even root his 2x
he don't even know there's a hidden menu.
I tried to enable GPS and try to fix on his phone, takes forever..
then I keep the GPS enabled, reboot.. and try to fix
it takes around 15sec to fix even with no data plan on his phone!
outdoor, open sky and fairly cloudy here..
Cannot confirm, at least with my patched services.jar and my 1.6 rom. Rebooted with GPS off, turned it on and got a fix in 10 seconds indoor.

I'm using your 1.6 at the moment..
GPS OFF then reboot, turn it ON again, take forever to fix.
GPS ON, then reboot, fix in 4 sec. with AGPS.
fix in around 15 sec without data connection.
possibly kernel related?

Try to do the same test with GPS OFF-> power off and battery pull.
As previous fix would affect the actual time to fix with new setting!
let's forget hidden menu first..
because the out of the box GPS setting in hidden menu is working correctly.
no need to modify anything, found actually no need to add nokia server to make it work.
just ensure GPS is ON before every shut down or reboot.
then the GPS would work on next boot! never been so quick too.

Reported my experience above. Same kernel, same version, fix in 10 secs near the window.

if you have fix before, later fix will not show you the actual time needed.
as above I said, try power off with GPS off and a battery pull before restart.
it would clear all hot state from your GPS chip and also clear AGPS state.
from there you'll see the actual time needed.

Yes, a cold fix takes more time than a warm one, but this is normal GPS behaviour. It does not mean that something is wrong there. But I am missing something for sure.
In stock I get a fix in 30 sec. In cm I get a fix in 5 minutes

[Q] GPS problem: fix -> lose fix -> fix -> lose fix

I'm using CM7 on my Nexus One. The issue happened twice; right now the GPS is working fine but I'd like to find what can be done to diagnose this, or if there's anyone out there who already knows a fix...
Here's what it looks like:
I turn on the GPS, open GNavigation (or Waze, or Maps). GPS gets a fix but when I start driving, it doesn't update my location. After a while, it loses the fix, the reacquires it, still doesn't update it, loses fix again, and this keeps happening as 5-minute long loops.
Here's how it looks like in the GPS Status app:
It's as if GPS gets a fix, then hangs (my coordinate are not updated in GPS Status app) without giving any errors, then turns itself off and on, gets a fix again, rinse and repeat.
What I tried:
Reset and download A-GPS state. Reset dalvik cache using recovery. Reset A-GPS state, turn off GPS, turn off phone, turn on phone (and variations of this). Didn't work...
What worked:
Finally I got sick of it and took out my real GPS device. I didn't turn off nexus' navigation (wanted to torture it a bit out of spite and frustration).
After driving for 40 minutes (and nexus finding, losing, finding ... GPS fixes as I was driving), suddenly it got a fix, and it just started working again without problems.
Anyone know what's happening here and how to fix it? Thanks so much in advance
You are not alone
Rebooting almost always fixes it for me. Unfortunately it takes several minutes.
Airplane mode also instantly fixes it, but then you lose A-GPS and all communications.
Radio updating may fix the problem.
Try flashing a latest radio image.
Latest radio
Thanks. I guess a new, functioning radio would indeed solve the problem.
However, I already have the latest radio flashed: 32.50.0032U_5.12.00.08 for the Nexus One. Earlier radios have other heavy shortcomings, so they are not a good option.
i wold know if it was good be4
cuz it was worked fine but now ive same problem
i thought this problem form rom
but now i dont know the reson
sorry 4 broken eng
thx
I am waiting for ICS and hope that will fix it.

CM10 Bug Thread

As poeple keep aksing the same questions over and over again in the official CM10 thread I tought it might be a good idea to have a dedicated bug thread. I will try to maintain the first post as good as possible. It should give you an overview of bugs and workarounds.
Following are known bugs with workarounds:
Slow charging bug
Restart phone with cable pluged
Battery drain on wifi
In advanced settings of WLAN don't choose the option to keep activated always the wifi
Apollo chrashes
Clear cache and data of appollo app in "manage apps" menu
Noise during Call, muted mic
Use a CM Rom for the new bootloader
Following are known bugs withouth workarounds:
Voice/Video call in Gtalk doesn't work (FC)
Panoramic photo mode chrashes somtimes
only continuous autofocus in videocam
notification bar isnt able to be tranparent, even with themes
no CRT on/off animation
non selectable pieces in enrgy-switch-widget
Bluetooth is loosing connection
Camera flash does not work without tapping-to-focus before hitting the shutter
No face unlock
HDMI output is rotated by 90 degree
Fixed Bugs
Screen turning randomly turning on (CM 1105)
Headset button works. This concerns those who use a proper Android headset that has a button for answering calls and pausing music. (CM 1105)
Other things to know
No LED Notification. This is actually not a bug. It is a feature which is not implemented yet.
Voice/Video call in Gtalk doesn't work (Gtalk gets FC'ed).
There is already a post maintained in another thread (can't tell which one) with an exhaustive list of known bugs, but I've only got these (as far as I know), gtalk and no audio in call.
screen randomly turning on. happens much more with wifi on, like constantly, but now i changed to 1105 nightly, so ill see if this is gone or not.

After 1day of use (and a full charge), microphone didn't work need to reboot
(1104)
(NOT solve in 1106)
The Parnoramic photo mod can't save picture
(1104 + CWM 6.0.12)
Datetime zone (solve in 1106)

I don't think it's a sdcard problem as I do not have any issues with the sdcard. Sometimes I am able to shoot Panorama fotos. Somtimes I am not.

2. notification bar isnt able to be tranparent, even with themes

What did you have on?
If you left it with wifi on it kinda makes sense it charged really slowly... if you believe that wifi is that enormous battery drainer everyone says it is (since I flashed v30a BB I have a battery life very similar to what I had with CM7, which was pretty good).
Flash light in photo camera is not working for me even when set to flash on.
With other camera apps it works. Can someone confirm?
My phone having randomly BSOD's.
Phone won't wake after sleep, have to take out battery. I have noticed some others have reported this in CM10 thread..
Bluetooth often does not connect to my car handsfree right away and often I have to turn BT off then on again on the phone to connect.
Bluetooth calling often gets cut off mid-call or briefly interrupted by waterfall noises.
Camera flash does not work without tapping-to-focus before hitting the shutter. Also the viewfinder lags a lot.
Whenever a new nightly is flashed on, it tends to disrupt the Bluetooth settings and force me to manually delete and repair.
The touch buttons don't light up during a notification when the screen is off (they used to in CM7).
Caller id, hidden number not functionnal in phone parameters / additionnals settings

Would help a lot if all of us shared the ROM version because some bugs are ROM related.
With 1107:
No face unlock
No full size panorama
Only continuous autofocus in videocam
Camera flash does not work without tapping-to-focus before hitting the shutter
Other bugs are not important to me so far.
Camera flash works for me,you need to turn that in options, works in cm and 4.2 camera

got the same problem. Really annoying.
Only solution i found is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674661
But i really don't want to do it, upgrading to the newest nightly and checking if the problem persists.
Edit: Updated it per CM-Updater (the one in "About the phone") and it's working great now, no random lightening up)

[Q] Wifi most of the time cannot start (not displaying list), restart sometimes helps

Hi!
Since last 2 weeks I'm suddenly experiencing weird problem without making any changes in the phone.
The problem:
When enabling wifi it freezes in wifi settings page (whole Settings app is freezing and needs restart). Not displaying list, just "enabling wifi..." message and app freezes in that moment. Waiting very long dosen't help. Phone is draining battery incredibly fast in that condition.
1. Switching Wifi On/Off - works.
2. when starting the phone - sometimes wifi starts and works,
3. when loosing wifi signal of connected network (going from place to place) - always wifi freezes and stopps to work.
I've done factory reset, cache format, I'm using CM 10.2-201312221-NIGHTLY now and before I've used stable cm-10.1.3. No difference. Is there a way I can solve or debug the issue?
Thank you very much for help!
