Has anybody thought of trying to mod the battery cover for access to the micro sd slot? I really hate taking the cover off and would love to be able to eject my micro SD card without having to take the battery cover off. I want to do this because of reported potential cracks that could develop in the plastic frame. I'm thinking cutting a little slot into the edge of the cover where the micro SD is covered.
Has anybody attempted this? Does the thickness of the metal cover give enough clearance to eject the card?
You have enough clearance with the width of the battery cover, but you'll need a very long fingernail or carry around a flat plastic/metal strip to be able to reach the SD card.
Another problem would be that pretty soon your SD card slot will be full of dust/pocket lint
Now, I use Winmo and Android.... and i have two sd cards, one for every OS... Because it is so easy to lose the new microsd cards... I cut the rubber that protects the battery and I put there the second sd card. For me it is sufficiently fixed, and I can carry ever my two sd cards with me.... (I dont use any case, only film protectors....)
I'm sure I'm not the first, but I think someone has not thought about it..
Regards....
Edit: probably, can fit a sd card plus a sim card....
lol
what a cool idea xD
im not using two sd cards, but probably soon xDD
I do that, a lovely tweak
I experimented with including an SD adapter as well, but no room
Guys...you don't need to cut anything for the microSD to fit.
Just put the second card on top of your SIM card. The clearance is sufficient without putting undue pressure on the battery/case/card.
That's what I did when I backpacked through Europe my HD2 + spare memory card for storing extra photos/videos.
Will the heat generated from the battery ruins the SDcard?
It's kinda funny seeing this. I've been doing this since I started running android on my hd2. But I didn't cut the foam and haven't had a single issue... didn't even try down by the simple but I don't want things sliding round inside the battery cover..

And I thought I was the only one..
Good to see other genius individuals in here as well.. Although, I did recently donate an 8 gig card because the card bumped out and got caught on the side seam.. Just keep an eye out.

Double sided tape leaves glue on the cards? Or use Blu-tack?
no glue or tape required, just place card and slowly put cover on hd2
Excellent idea, thought of it just couple of hours ago but thought maybe it wouldn't fit. Gonna store my 2GB card there w/ copilot on it, for whenever I can't use Google Nav.
thanks for the trick. its a good idea to carry extra stuff in the back. im now looking for the cushion in the middle to put in my mugen extended battery back. there is no support inside so everything will slide around and get damaged. just for a temporary fix, i might stuff it with some bounty lol. picts when i find the cushion strip.
sdcardolder.com Has the coolest MicroSDHC card holders for around $7USD. the size of a credit card, it can hold 10 MicroSD cards and a SD to micro adapter. Multiple colors and even a hole for a keycain/lanyard. Now that Dalingrin has the video working so slick on CM7 this could be a helpful item for juggling cards for video.

This is a very interesting design. Right now i have 3-4 micros in their own cases with adapters in my back pack. The design worry's me, how well does it hold the cards id be afraid they would fall out.
I'm with the previous poster. Looks like it would be too easy to have a card slip right out on accident. Otherwise, I'm always looking for a better way to hold my cards than the 4 different boxes I already use.
the site mentions that center tab on each slot...think it is supposed to act as the retention mechanism.
ya i saw that, but im still a bit weary. if you buy it let me know. if it holds them well, and does not feel like it will get loose with age i might be game to buy it.
Yeah..gonna buy a few cards and one of these soon...got the call to go back to work Monday...yay money!

I bought one of these a few weeks ago to keep track of my growing supply of uSD cards. I can attest that it's very handy and size-efficient.
I can understand the concerns that the cards may fall out, but the center-tab latching mechanism seems pretty secure, as it is reinforced on the underside. I actually bought 2 other models (one to hold multiple SIMs and one to hold multiple full-sized SDs). They all work as expected and I'm pleased with the purchases.
Other than this model, I haven't seen anything which holds a large # of uSD cards in a small space.
Cheers

any chance you can post a pic?
When I said that it was reinforced underneath, I misspoke. They do seem to be more than adequately rigid, given that they don't need to travel far to release the cards.
As requested, here are some pictures of the retention mechanism.
I just bought one of these at amazon, with the intention of sticking some velcro on it and attaching it to my B&N Industriell Easel.

Looking forward to more feedback. It looks like either of the 2 posts would help as far as storage is concerned but I am also having trouble keeping my cards straight. I have the NC and 2 android phones.

I ended up picking up this reader/holder, and I expect it will remain sufficient for my needs for some time to come. In addition to the 2 uSD, 1 SIM and 1 M2 storage slots (all cards I currently use, though only one of each and usually in their respective devices), 1 more of any of the above can be stored in the reader slot.
I hadn't considered it when I ordered, but the reader is slim enough to slip in the cover flap of my NC case, which I had thought impractical for anything but a wiping cloth or a few sheets of paper. In a lot of cases, it would fit neatly in the ID pocket (fits mine, too, but makes the cover bulge there when closed).
About the only con I see is that they probably could have made it smaller still--I suspect the center 1/4-1/3 of the width is wasted space inserted for that credit card form factor.

Did you order directly from the company or via their store at Amazon?
I think I will order the SIM card holder. They have a buy 3 get 4 promo via Amazon. It would be overkill to buy the SIM Card Holder, SD card holder and the micro SD cardholder. What would I do with a fourth card holder?

It works fine for me... I'm thinking of how to best slap it on my case, at present. I think I'm going to sew some magnets into a fabric pockect, and just use the magnetic stick in the case to tether it in place. As to keeping track, maybe a bit of paint on the cards? Be it nail polish, poster, marker, etc? Keep them color coded and easily sorted .

Thanks OP who mentioned sdcardolder.com. I ended up doing the buy 3 get 4 deal at Amazon.
2 SIM Card Holder
1 SD card holder
1 Micro SD cardholder
PS Thinking about putting them into an Altoids tin when traveling.

Hi all, the best part of this holder is it is designed to fit right in the pelican (!) ( secure digital case which makes it not only secure, but also waterproof, and if I do say so, very cool. I bought mine from amazon.
Ha anyone found a good MicroSIM adapter that works well with the vivid? I want to be able to switch back and forth between my iphone 4.
I tried with my existing adaptor (soft plastic, that is normal SIM thickness with a thinner inset for the microSIM to rest inside) and nearly got the SIM stuck inside. Due to the design of the Vivid's SIM slot, Isuspect that any added thickness will cause problems. The sticker-type adaptor may work better but is not reusable.
Has anyone found a good solution?
Go to amazon and search micro USB adapter. It's like the second or third down. There's two adapters for like $1.34. They work perfectly

i have the same issue i am looking for a solution as well
Best solution I've found is to cut the sim and use NO adapter, just a piece of tape to pull it out. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the position right but its easy to remove, and i can even remove without pulling the battery.
Hi All
My friend has used a sim adapter within the sim tray (he had a nano sim from having used in an iPhone 5). He cannot now remove the sim tray, comes out a couple of mm and gets stuck.
The phone has been sent to HTC UK for repair and they are quoting him £200 (!) to fix. He's asked them to return without fixing.
Any ideas on how a DIY repair may be carried out? I'm wondering if removing the top and bottom speaker grills, afters applying some heat, will allow access to screws to allow the screen etc. to be removed?
Any advice appreciated!

He did use quite a lot of force to try to pull the tray out, but it seems to be catching something on the inside. I think if we try what you suggest we'll send up with with 2 pieces, with one stuck inside.

if you remove the screen etc i doubt youll ever get it back on. its probably just the adapter which is misplaced and preventing the tray to come out, try wiggling the phone about and trying to pull and push at the same time. be prepared to order another adapter and maybe another sim card too
Seems like the nano SIM has fallen out of the adapter?
Get some fuse wire, one pack will have varying gauges of wire, make a loop with the wire, shove it in the slot, shuggle it about.
Good luck!
Take it to a local phone repair shop and see what they'd charge.

I suggest not forcing it off. Look at the ifixit disassembly force pulling it might lead the plastic injected mold to break and you wouldn't want that to happen.
Damn! Sim has fallen out the adapter for sure. And if that's the case then your friend is probably screwed. Since the sim probably came off the adapter, the adapter might now be stuck on the pins that read the sim card.
Same thing happened to my friends sgs2 which I'm about to fix soon. The only way I was able to remove the sim was by prying it out. That resulted in one of the pins to break off and now it doesn't read the sim.
See the picture below for reference. You can see the 3 gold pins on the left side of the sim tray exposed. There are also 3 more under that metal piece to the right, which is the actual tray. You can see there's 4 holes where you can see 2 gold pins showing through and one is missing. There supposed to be 6 pins total. 3 on the left and 3 on the right. That's the one pin that got stuck on the sim adapter. I'm afraid this is probably the same problem you have.
I suggest your friend sents it back to htc and let them take it out. They will have to open up the device to do so.

This happened to me with the One. Use a super thin razor blade (the kind that you use on the old school razors), stick it in through the side, and pry toward the side that it's supposed to be installed. Do the top and bottom little by little. Eventually it will come out enough to grab with a pair of small needle nose pliers.

This is on the right track. I have used plastic lamination that I cut, paper, cardboard, a piece of tape folded over so it's not sticky. Something that will bend and allow you to slide in between the sim card and the pins or whatever is holding it. You can then wiggle the tray out and then shake the nano card out. I have done this before it can take hours of playing with it. Finding the right object that you can slide in there is key. Also look for any pictures you can find of a teardown to give you an idea of what is holding it and where you need to slide something in to free it. The key is patience do not force anything or something will break. It will be long and tedious this I promise.
Does that make sense?
Try an auto feeler gauge set from Halfords for a selection of shim thicknesses, then trial and error.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
Currently waiting for HTC to return the phone (for a £25 charge due to not proceeding with a repair). Once back will try to put into action what has been suggested.
Thanks again,
Yeah i had a similar experience with sim adaptors. Don't use them. (as you found out they just get stuck). I would take a really thin blade or something and push up on the sim tray (you said that it comes out a bit) .Thats how i freed my sim on another phone.
PS: DONT remove the speaker grills. This phone is pretty much impossible to put back together once you take it apart.
Just want to chime in and said that I bought the noosy nano sim adapter off of Amazon and my sim tray got stuck as well. The tray was only stuck when there was no nano sim in the adapter. When I placed the microsim adapter with the nano sim it worked perfectly, for me at least. I wanted to keep the micro sim adapter in the tray because I was afraid of losing it.

Could you post how you got the tray out with the adapter in? I have the same adapter and can't seem to get it. THANKS!!!!
I ejected the sim tray as far as I can then slid some very thin lamination into both sides of the tray then prayed and pulled. Did this with and without the nano sim in the adaptor and realized that it was the micro adaptor without the nano sim. Busy of luck buddy.

I actually finally got it just as I was about to give up! I used a blade from a straight razor. The pins that contact the nano sim are what got stuck. For future reference you have to push it in fairly hard on the side of the tray towards the back of the phone. and if like me you are using something narrower than the tray, it has to be closest to the top of the phone.
The pins that are sticking are on the back top of the adapter. It seems the pins are straight so they snag when they are in the opening of the sim adapter.
Haha congrats.I was a little frantic first but finally got it as well. As long as you don't scratch it up any thin item probably works.
So getting a micro SIM from your carrier(free) and not damaging your $600 phone trying to use a nano SIM would be the best solution.

Need suggestions
My SIM tray is jammed. I got this ugly thing over 2 weeks back and feel like hell. I tried removing my SIM card check for data service in my other SIM but it didn't came out. I tried quite hard till my fingers started paining. I tried with a paper clip. My SIM is working fine without any issues but next month I will be travelling to India and hence will be required to change my SIM. I read about this a lot and seems like there is no repair for HTC ONE. Can you guys please guide me over this ... :crying::crying::crying:
