Hey all, my cousin just dropped his N1 and broke the lcd screen. The touchscreen is responsive, and it's fully stock. Updated to whatever the latest official update was. I can feel it unlock, but I need screenshots of where to touch to get to USB Debugging so I can get some information off of it. He never modded or used USB Debugging so I know it's off. Computer just sees it as a drive. Please help! A video would be even better.
I've already searched a bunch but haven't found anything that helps start to finish.
Thanks!

What rom where you on before ?
Well phone where updated with Froyo 2.1 but nothing else. oh it were also rooted and thats about it! have been thinking about to sending phone back to the manufacturer! dont really have time trying to find some cure for it.
Rooting = no warranty so you would be best to clear it via jig just in case .

hi there it been longtime since i wroted here.
Well i tryed the jig method with usb cable and with single 300k resistance, made little mistake not to measure it before because there is a 5% tolerance with it so my resistance were only 294k. Doesnt work btw phone dont do anything with it, well i have to make new cable and be sure that it is the 301k resistance. will be adding new info after it what will happen. Im slightly scare that even getting that right resistance it wount do anything, it wuold be that point when i will send it to samsung and maybe get it working again.
Downloading...
okay. next problem with jig managed to get my phone to download mode!! JIIHAA
but now my computer cant regonize it!? actually this problem had before the magical black screen. Any solutions for that? have installed new usb drivers and oldones but cant find it.
PLS need more help!!
Sounds like you need to clean the cable. I've had a hell of a time with these issues in the past. When it is on again off again (or you just get 'generic device' or unkown device) then try cleaning the port on the computer with running alcholol and something tiny enough to get in there.
I did that after a huge long search on here and it was like freakin magic. 8 drivers popped up all at once!
Never hurts to do the comp and the cable too (and make sure its not a charging only micro usb...).

ok guys, watched the n00b disclaimer video, and of course I searched high and low, but cannot seem to find a thread on this. Both my wife and I have VZW droid 1's. I take very good car of mine so it has been flawless, unfortunately, her screen appears to be dead (only lights up, no response to touch screen, will not display images) She has USB debugging turned off so I cant access the phone from what I can tell. My question here is can I simply put her motherboard in my phone and get her information off of it? maybe turn on usb debugging while its in my case?
I know it's alot of work, but she has a lot of information stored on the phone and needs it out of it.
Any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has any idea what is wrong with the screen let me know, i looked at all the cables and they seem perfect. it seems like most people that have dead displays still have touch, but this has nothing, could it be simply a software issue and have nothing wrong with the hardware?
Thanks in advance guys!
Your motherboard swap should be fine.
I bought a broken droid off ebay exhibiting your issues, all it took to fix it was unplugging and replugging in the display cable. I then switched the motherboard with the one from my milestone and it worked fine, and without issue
I've got a rooted Captivate and I was running CM7. Yesterday, I went into CWM and did a back up and I was going to flash a new ROM. The problem is I forgot to wipe everything, I just loaded the zip from SD card and now the phone turns on, shows the white AT&T screen then gets stuck on the Galaxy S cyanogen(mod) screen.
Here's the 1st problem!!
I cannot get the phone to go into recovery mode. I've tried every combination of volume and power buttons you can think of. I've also tried power volume and home button... That actually made the phone reboot so I had a glimmer of hope thrown in my face right before the phone just got stuck on the same galaxy cyanogenmod screen. If i hold those buttons down, it does an actual boot loop over and over...
Here's the second and much bigger problem!!
I have a broken Micro USB port. (of course I do, why would this just be easy for me?!?!) Before this issue, I would plug the phone in while it's off or on and it would show it charging, however the phone would not charge at all. If I plugged it into a computer, the computer would show that there is new hardware but it would never install correctly and I wouldn't be able to access it.
As of now, when I plug the phone in to either wall or computer, and I apply some force to the USB plug at the phone I can get the screen to light up like it's going to charge but it never turns green like it's charging, it just stays at that little spinny thing in the middle of the batter picture on the screen.
I've tried both odin2 as well as heimdall... The problem is that there is no way for me to get them to recognize the phone. Weird enough though, I can get the phone to go into download mode by playing the power, volume, plug in USB game. It takes a few times but I can get it to work. I'm pretty much stuck from there though.
I am working on finding someone to fix the USB port for me but it's micro soldering and has proven to be quite difficult for me to accomplish.
I'm pretty much out of options right now. Does anyone have any advice or super secret squirrel stuff that could force this dang thing into some sort of recovery mode??? I would greatly appreciate any help!!!!!
look in my sig USB PORT REPAIR
Thanks
Hey, thanks a lot for that link. It looks promising. I'm going to try something tomorrow that hopefully fixes the usb port. If not then I"m going to look to get it fixed professionally... Thanks again...
I recommend that service as I have used it. very professional and great support!
Getting it repaired
I found a place by my house and the guy is going to fix the port for 25 bucks, including a new port.. Can't beat that...

Thanks, I'm going to give this service a try to fix my headphone jack. I think the sensor is broken and thinks headphones are always plugged in.
What ROM are you running. as an I9000 ROM with out a proper kernel will do this!
I was running CM7 with a Glitch Kernel and I was trying to go to TeamHackSung's ICS PORT BUILD 14.
I recently picked up a note but am having two issues. Firstly I just can't get it to connect to my pc, it keeps saying the usb driver is invalid even though I've installed Kies with the driver.
Secondly there seems to be a patch of the screen that doesn't pick up the s pen. The whole screen seems to respond to touch but there is a cm patch that can't be written on. Has anyone come across this before? I could get it looked at under warranty but not sure it's worth it (I'd lose my glast screen protector)
If I did send it back and could get it connected to my pc is there anyway of backing it up so if the phone gets replaced I can just restore it and not have to go through the whole setup and app installation again and not lose my game save progress etc...
Appreciate any help or advice you can offer.
I've just answered part of my own question.!
The dead part of the screen with the S pen is caused by the magnetic clasp of my case. No idea why I didn't realise sooner.
Still struggling to connect by usb though. I've transfered everything over wifi which is slower but at least works but I'm still looking for a backup option that I assume will need usb so any help gratefully received.
Try settings /more /usb utilities /connect storage to pc.

Hello
My friend has Nexus 6, or should I say had. Unfortunately, he dropped his phone really hard on concrete. LCD is completely dead. He is dumb enough to never make a backup of his photos etc. Is there any way to get his data back ? Phone is pure stock.
Thanks for any help

If the phone turns on and boots just plug it in the PC and you might be able to port them to the PC.

Well a very annoying thing about Marshmallow is that the phone requires you to unlock it and select file share over usb mode otherwise it will only charge off a computer, if he had ADB enabled AND had it used on a computer in the past then you can do an ADB pull, but again on a new computer you'll have to confirm that you trust the computer to get adb to work. And even if he had TWRP recovery installed you'll still need to decrypt the phone using a passcode unless he used a unsecure lockscreen. Also if you have ADB access then you can use a chrome extension called "vysor" which mirrors the phone screen onto your computer to interact with it.
EDIT: just read pure stock...
Debugging is unfortunately off.
Is the actual screen destroyed, or just the digitizer?
If the actual screen is toast along with the digitizer, replacing the screen is the only means of retrieving his data. The good news in that regard is that taking apart the Nexus 6 is actually quite easy, based upon iFixit's teardown of the device.
If only the digitizer is gone, there may be some hope. Grab a USB OTG cable and a PC mouse. Connect the mouse to the OTG cable and plug the OTG cable into the MicroUSB port. Android should then generate a mouse cursor that you can use to maneuver around the device. From there you should be able to enable USB debugging if you want, or simply copy his data to Mega, Mediafire, Dropbox, or Google Drive for later retrieval.
I had the same thing happen to my N6. With nothing to lose, I banged it against my palm and saw the screen flicker. After a few more taps, I got the screen to come back long enough to back up data and get me through till a replacement arrived.
