[Q] Wi-Fi Performance - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Hello. I see that GT8.9 has dual-band Wi-Fi in BCM4330 chipset. Earlier explorations (googlings) led me to believe that i need dual-band router to get performance which one could call real 802.11n Now i have 2.4GHz RT-N16 router and maximum connection speed which i've ever seen was 65Mbit/s and maximum data transfer rate according to Speedtest.net is 4300-4900kbps (much less than my i-net conn speed).
I want large video files to transfer faster from NAS drive to tablet over Wi-Fi. As u can see in the pic, the speed of file copy (File Manager HD) is equal to Speedtest app results.

On the 1st peak (under 'Autoscale') i put the tablet near router. So distance is not the issue.
So performance isn't much better than 802.11g. Will a dual-band router help me in this case? If yes, which one can u advise to pick.
Thanks. I hope my engrish is understandable

First of all are your talking KBps or kbps, that is the difference between kilobits and bytes http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1061 So the difference in speed may not be that big to start with.
Second if you have a N router, they vary at speed. Base is 150 MBit (not byte) and Then you have Dual Band Routers that can handle 300MBit, some even 450 with some trickery and the right WiFi card. However overhead on WiFi is 50% (only 10% on wired ethernet), so if you have a 150 MBit connection, 75 MBit speed is the highest you will effectively reach. So if you have a Dual band router which works on 300 MBit speed with the Galaxy Tab, only question is, do you need it, since the device itself only has 16Gb internal.
If this is about Full HD streaming on the Tab, I've seen other topics that playback on 720p is doable, 1080p almost (if not) impossible.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918022

I think that's the same question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079867
Firmware is JB CM10. After some tweaks (completely switched off .11g) on router side i could get ~9Mbit/s on file copy. And i mean megabits. It's FAAAAAR from even 75Mbit/s.
Streaming of common xvid files works, but sometimes lags. 720p MKV is (of course) impossible to watch over SMB or DLNA.
Also, i know there's a feature called "Channel Bonding". As i know it raises conn.speed up to 150Mbit/s. But i need 5GHz router. Is anybody acquainted with this info?

Wifi problem - one possible reason

Hi,
I've searched the kaiser forum and found quite a few threads about wifi problems.
I got this problem as well and for my case, I found out that I lost wifi only when connecting to the PC. The reason is you can access the internet via usb connection to the PC and thus enabling wifi would probably make your kaiser become a router which should be avoided. So you won't have wifi while having usb connection to your PC.
Hope this can help solving some of the wifi issues. I've just got kaiser for 3 days now so this is as much as I've known.
cheers
somewhere in your activesync/windows mobile device center there should be an option to allow connections on the device when connecting to PC, my wifi works fine on my kaiser is connected to PC. or maybe thats not what ur askign for have trouble understanding your problem.(Does your PC lose the wifi or the device loses wifi)
It's the device that loses WiFi and I have also had this issue. If I disconnect the USB cable, WiFi becomes operational again.

I always lose wifi on Kaiser when Kaiser connects to PC. I don't know how to have wifi on Kaiser when the device connects to PC. As I explained, Kaiser should not have 2 connections to internet at the same time.
Can you have wifi on Kaiser working when it's connecting to PC?
Yes, you can

can't cast entire screen

Hi everyone, so I just got my Chromecast but I'm having issues casting entire screen on my main PC (laptop works fine). What could possibly be blocking this? I've mess with all my routers setting from 2.4Ghz to 5GHz band and it still doesnt work. I've also tried re-downloading flash, disabled UAC, firewall, anti-virus, and anything I could think of that could cause this. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I've searched a tons but it doesnt seem to be a common problem. Regular casting works fine but it immediate errors when I try desktop mode.

Comparing between my PC and laptop there is a few software difference.
Firmware: 14975
PC
-Windows 8.1
-Latest Chromebrowser
-Latest flashplayer
-Connected on 5Ghz
-UAC disabled
-Win firewall disabled
Laptop
-Windows 8
-Older Chromebrowser 31.0.1653
-Connected on 5Ghz

The only thing left I havent try is plugging direct Ethernet to the router instead of connecting wireless (its an HTPC) if the wi-fi card is the problem.
Really about just give up at this point, so frustrating!!
Could this possibly help? It's a few posts up.

The guy at the end of the thread has a workaround, but there are several comments with similar problems and solutions. Hope it helps.

Definitely try a wired connection if you can - that will help rule out general wireless congestion.

So it was a bandwidth/connection issue. I switch to 2.4Ghz and it works!
My HTPC is using the onboard wi-fi card and it seems picky on the 5Ghz upstream with my router. The strange thing is that I never got that "bandwidth connection notification" or orange icon when Chromecast is having network problem; so I never bother to go back and check.
I also check out the Chromecast app and it doesnt even pick up my 5Ghz band so maybe there is some compatibility issue there.
Thanks all for the help! :good:

Glad you got it figured out. The Chromecast PC app is geared to connect to the Chromecast setup AP which is 2.4GHz.
The Chromecast Android app will use on 5GHz but only after Chromecast is set up, when it isn't trying to actively set up a Chromecast.
First I'd run Chromecast as it is and see if you encounter any issues. If not, you could just leave it alone...
But if curiosity keeps you up at night, it's possible there's a compatibility issue with your HTPC's wireless NIC and your router. Try setting your router's 5GHz AP to a lower speed range and see if that helps the connection stability.
Hi how do I cast to PC? I mean where would I connect the ccast to and what app do I need? I'm new to this lol

Chromecast is made to show video on a television. You could hook it up to your PC monitor if it has an HDMI input, or you could use the CR Cast extension (check FAQ for link) to make computer Chrome act like a Chromecast.
Only really makes sense if you have an HTPC though... otherwise it's like using a TV to remote control another TV.

M3 Navigation Screen

I've been wanting to use the navigation screen for GTR like gauges for a while, I've seen some projects try to use gauges using a carputer and even a Raspberry Pi, which looked really promising.
I have Nexus 5 Android phone and use several apps with a bluetooth ODB adaptor.
But first I started by using a console phone mount from proclip, and a wedge to get the right angle.
I've been using the Nexus wireless Qi charger at home and it has magnets so I can just drop the phone on it and it holds very firmly and charges it.
I decide to use this in the car, I love dropping the phone down and having it charging and being able to access the screen easily. I love the look too, not some bulky phone holder. I LOVE wireless charging, it's one of the main reasons I love the Nexus.
I had a reverse camera installed a while ago by SonicMS, they used a system similar to the one sold by Alekshop:
http://alekshop.com/products/multimedia_interface_kit_with_rear_camera_for_2009_bmws
This interface has aux inputs that weren't wired by SonicMS so I opened it up and used a spare set of RCA cables and ran them into my glove box.
I purchased a RCA to HDMI converter from Amazon, and my initial plan was to get a MHL to HDMI adaptor for the phone and a iPad to HDMI adaptor for my iPad.
But THEN... I thought, it would be so awesome to keep everything wireless, and hook up a Chromecast, so that's what I did
I setup the Tasker app from the Google Play store to do a bunch of things when it connects to the bluetooth in my M3 (tasker is another reason I love the Nexus, can't do this stuff with apple devices).
First Tasker starts the Internet sharing hotspot, and I used a plugin called Autocast to automatically cast my screen to the Chromecast, then does a bunch of other things (sets screen to not turn off, brightness all the way up, launch google maps, etc.).
The Chromecast automatically connects to the Nexus hotspot once it becomes available.
So now all I do is drop the phone on my wireless charger, and everything connects automatically, the only extra step I have to do is hold down the Menu button in my car to switch to the aux input.
Now I can easily watch Netflix, or Hulu or any app from my phone on the Nav screen, it's so awesome! It's not the best resolution, but for me it's fine.
Here are a few pics with a the Torque app:
Nice job!! Definitely something I might've pursued in my previous life when I lived in your area.
Also thanks for mentioning AutoCast, I'm very into Tasker and wasn't aware of it - actually never thought of Tasker-izing my Chromecast until now. Hmm...

HDMI output via USB-C in Note 9S (Curtana)

I will be very surprised indeed if these phones support video out through usb c / MHL
Note 8 Pro didn't and there's been no announcement that there's anything different in this range (discussed briefly in this thread, with links to more detailed discussion https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/redmi-note-8-pro-to-hdmi.53266/%23:~:text%3DIt%2520seems%2520that%2520the%2520redmi,MHL%2520neither%2520the%2520SlimPort%2520standards.&ved=2ahUKEwiQxsW1z8XqAhVIMewKHalODKEQFjABegQIDBAG&usg=AOvVaw237DjQg8DPjsOAQ11S9sHM&cshid=1594485066088)
IDK why on older (very much) phones was that easy through Microusb(vía MHL) -I remember my old HTC One X- and with current phones doesnt have this option. I tried S10e in DeX Mode and is very practical. Current wireless screen mirror functionality is like cover a water leak with a band aid...

I'd guess it's that these are (when we get down to it) budget devices - all the features you want, but stripped of those you don't (such as usb 3, which might support MHL, assuming I've understood that correctly)
Fwiw I find screen mirroring through Chromecast fairly useful, and loads less hassle than a cabled solution for occasional mirroring. For a longer term solution though a cable connection would likely be more stable, but I guess that's probably a niche use case, for which the redmi note series is probably not the best choice
@thesoupthief I considered Chromecast option, and It would be a good idea if it didn't require a wireless internet connection, I need something to connect phone directly to a basic TV, without router as intermediate

This is not an ideal solution, but it works (with a bit of messing about). Instead of using a router based network to act as the intermediary for a Chromecast you can use another device's WiFi hotspot
We stayed somewhere for a few days last week where there was no wired internet. I had a Chromecast (I took it along expecting there would be WiFi) - my RN8 and another phone
I set up a wireless hotspot on the other phone and used my RN8 to connect the Chromecast & TV to that wireless network
I was then able to cast stored content from my RN8 to the TV without any massive data usage on the other phone
I've never used a Miracast dongle but that might be the simplest option - they're dirt cheap (€7 or so on eBay - about the same price as an HDMI cable) and don't require any external network. Not sure how reliable they are, but I think they're still supported in MIUI - can anyone comment?
Curiosity got the better of me - I just ordered a Miracast dongle. I'll report back when it arrives (it's likely on a slow boat from China, so it won't be here for a while yet)

yes i did it, i even tried it with 2 other xiaomi phones.
on other computers it works normally.
only on Acer AN515-43 that does not.
I’ve already spoken with Acer support, but they don’t know what’s going on.

Did you reinstalled USB Drives and install latest one.
otherwise try to use another PC.
when it's happening to me always try another PC and works.
I solved my USB connections problem by using Stock Windows 10 without any mod or custom builds...
Good luck with it

I would try then;
1. Check for updated drivers from Windows Update
2. If not, try updating drivers with snappy tool;
https://sdi-tool.org/download/ (sdi lite)
3. If still not, backup ur personal laptop data and clean install win10
I tried these three options, but I still have the same problem.
