Hi all,
I recently bought an unlocked international version of samsung galaxy S GT-i9000. I was able to use it with at&t sim card quite happily till now. Even the 3g worked on it. But from yesterday the at&t service keeps disconnecting after using for few hours. The network bars at the top right disappear and a blue disconnected sign appears. I cannot make a call or receive a call till I reboot my phone. In settings->about phone I see that the "Service" shows "Not in Service". When I reboot it gets back to "In Service".
Did anyone face this problem before? Is there any solution for it? My unlocked phone boots with T-mobile preset settings - is this problem because of that?\
Someone please help.
I've been using one on AT&T for quite a while without issue.
Ok. Thats encouraging. Did you change the software on it - like rooting or flashing other ROMS or still using the original touchwiz?
I donno why I am getting this error now..it worked fine last week.

I've flash several roms without issue.
Did you install anything recently before the problems occurred?
I just installed a Yahoo mail application and some online radios yesterday. Nothing on the software side like rooting or flashing. I am still using the samsung touchwiz that came with the device.
Looks like that yahoo mail app is the cause of the problem. Deleted that app 1 day back, and it seems to work smoothly for now without any disconnections. Thanks for pointing out to look at newly installed apps.
did you buy I9000 or I9000M ?
I9000 runs on 900/1900/2100
AT&T runs on 850/1900
I9000M runs on 850/1900/2100

Doesn't really matter I had stock/euro i9000and had no disconnects.. although sometimes I only got edge when there was no 850 3g. I now have i9000m and still get no disconnects.. and yes I am on at&t.

I bought I9000 (not the M version). I am able to get the 3g HSDPA with 1900 frequency. I verified it online before buying the piece that 3g would run on one of the frequencies. The problem I had earlier was not with the 3g network, but with the actual cell phone signal which enables to make calls.

I had this problem for a while after I flashed one of the firmwares.. the fix i think i used was to change the settings on the phone from KOR to BMC.. I forget how to do this..
it was one of the *#1234#* type codes.. Anyone remember?
I guess I was early in thinking everything is alright. The problem started again- it gets disconnected once in a while and I have to restart the mobile. Hey dapoktan, can you please remember what you did earlier to get rid of it? If we change the firmware does it help? I am waiting for samsung's android 2.2 update, hope they at least release it by Nov 11th (as mentioned in one website)

Thanks every one for your suggestions.
Before applying nailer's suggestions, I just saw I could update the firmware to froyo by doing a registry hack in kies http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_Series#Installing_firmware_for_different_country. So just gave it a try and currently got froyo.
Have been using froyo since yesterday and no recurrence of the problem till now. I also successfully rooted the device following http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/2384-Rooting-FroYo-2.2 and applied Ryanza's lagfix 2.0 available in market. Looks fine for now and the phone runs excellently smooth.
I'm having this problem which started right now, without even rebooting the phone or doing any kind of procedure. The phone accepts the pin code for the sim card, shows signal on the notification bar, but I can't make any calls, and it doesn't recognize the network on the notification bar - however, on the phone information area it has no problem recognizing the network.
Any idea on what's happening? I'm on JPU btw!
edit: after a couple of reboots it's working again Well, the problem is solved; still, should I be worried about this behaviour?
how did you solve this problem? im having same issues
this is crazy i am having the very same problem, my I9000T was on charge i shut down my pc then disconnected the I9000T, and since then it does not see my sim card, i have tried three different sim cards without any luck, the phone is rooted, and funnily enough i was reading about Darky`s v8 rom as this was my next step i wanted to do today GGRRrrr does anyone have any ideas on this, or do i unroot it and take it back to the shop i bought it from ?? thanks and regards in advance
dave

You should not expect many answers in the description you gave,we need more details to sort what the problem is,like if you have flashed or done anything with your SGS.
If you have flashed the phone with a new firmware then you probably forgot to flash the modem file.Go in Odin again, select the Modem file, and DONT click anything else then flash the Modem file ONLY,it should be fine.
please check if your phone's IMEI is still correct. compare what is in settings>about phone>status to what is stated as your IMEI in the box where you phone came with or at the back of the phone after you remove the battery.
If your IMEI is different, you may be stuck with an INVALID IMEI unless of course you backed up your EFS folder.
Note: next time provide more details like what you were doing BEFORE this issue happened. We are not mind readers
Same problem
I am having the same problem. 4 days ago my Galaxy tab decided that it would not recognise my sim card, at the time I was playing a game. Numerous phone calls to my provider lead to no help as they kept reassuring me that my sim card and service was fine. I soon discovered that flight mode was turned on. When I turn flight mode off the sim card sign comes on in the right hand top corner but still says no sim card emergency calls only. Turn off the tab and turn it back on and flight mode is reset. Nothing I do will stop flight mode coming on each time I turn the tab on or make the tab recognise my card.
I have reset the tab to factory mode but this did not work. I checked the IMEI number as per this forum and it is correct.
Please help!

i had the same problem i search in xda developers and didnt find.My friend said that my wifi chip broken.i sent it to the shop to replace the chip and after that all work perfect.so i recomend to send the phone to the shop to replace the wifi chip and it will work :good:
for anyone facing this error, you simply need to reinstall a newer or different country specific modem.
Good Afternoon,
This is my first time being an owner of an android device. I have had a iPhone since the iPhone 3.
I recently swopped my iPhone 4 for a Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 on a local buy/sell site. It came with ICS 4.0.3 already installed. I have excited it was huge and awesome. Tried to make a call and well I got hear the person on the other side but all they could hear was static. I spoke to my mobile operator (by the way I live in South Africa) and my mobile operator MTN, said that ICS hasnt been launched on their system yet.
I thought my mic was faulty but all the voice commands and voice memos work fine.
So I phoned the guy I swopped my phone with and he pointed me to
androidadvices. com / samsung-galaxy-note-n7000-steps-install-gingerbread-236-xxkka-firmware/
and to use the following rom
hotfile. com / dl/141938899/4714c17/N7000XXLA3_N7000OXALA3_OXA.zip. html?expire=1
I followed the instructions on the site listed above and when I have run the process in Odin it gets stuck on the factory part.
The other thing is Kies doesn't see my Note when it is plugged it. And also I am unable to enter recovery mode.
I am at a loss as what to do now as the Note just says that i need to connect it in recovery but I can't do that as I have tried holding down the up volume key the home key and the power button and it does nothing.
Is there a way to check what my model number is of my Note without having to boot into a rom?
I heard about a method of install the rom as a image on the micro sd card but I dont know that method. It had some Egyptian name for the program that allowed you to do this but for the life of me I can't remember.
Please can you assist me in this matter as I am very sad and at a loss as what to do next to get a working phone again.
Hi Team,
I have heard lot about this forum and hope to get some gud suggestions from you guys.
I bought my Samsung Galaxy ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS 6 months back but slowly I started facing few problems when my friends noticed and told me that your phone sometimes says switch off.
I also realized that sometimes even if the airtel network is there still i get an error message that mobile network not available I had to switch off the phone to get it normal.
Again people text me but it goes on pending and gets delivered after hours. I showed this problem to the service center they flashed my mobile but the problem persist I also tried changing my sim card but still all in vain. Now i am literally fed up with this phone.
Please assist me I dont know wat to do :crying:
Note: The phone is not rooted.
Thank you
err, are you sure this is because of the phone..? not the network..? because i never face any of the problems you mention..
may be you should try flashing stock rom with newest baseband for your region, find it on sammobile..

He said the service centre guys reflashed the rom. but agree that the sms thing could be network problem.
Faulty battery/pins (Switch offs)
Faulty hardware (Antenna?)
That's all I can identify.
Hi Guys !!!
Thanks for sharing your views
@demiorkan
The mobile automatically does not gets switched off but i need to do it manually as it keeps on prompting the error message "Mobile network not available" though I can see full network on my mobile.
I would really appreciate if I get any suggestions from your side.
Let me know if any more information is required.
If you dont mind you could try flashing another stock rom and see if that works out. If it did not, then it's probably a hardware problem OR the network (as mentioned). Try your SIM card on another phone as well, that should prove if there is problem with the network or not.
Mostly it might be a firmware problem. Service center might not have flashed a new firmware but simply wiped and gave back. (can't be sure on that). So I recommend on using ODIN and flash new firmware. Google is your best friend on this.
Secondly about the network, Turn on flight mode once and turn it off, you'll get the signal. You can even do some debugging by going to the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and toggle the radio and the preferred connection type and stuff. But if the place where you are is such that you get low signal, then don't try any things on phone as it's ultimately the network problem. Trust Me, the place where I stay, I rarely get proper reception and Even I'm on the same network. Flight Mode trick saves the unnecessary reboot.
