I see the wifi version has jelly bean ports, custom roms, debloated &, De branded roms. Is this Telus rom all we are getting for this fine piece of machinery? If so please advise so I can sell and move on

I hope not. I held my nose and ordered a Kindle HD 8.9, but really would like to see this tablet continue. Perhaps if Amazon is successful with this size other vendors will follow.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Just bought a Note, will be arriving in the next couple of hours.
Just a couple of questions -
Im coming from a GSII that has been running a custom ICS rom and really really love the features ICS brings and how it looks. I would like to run ICS on my Note from the word go as I feel going back to GB would taint my experience.
(Q) Am I correct in assuming that if I flash a custom ICS rom on my Note that I wont be able to use the S Pen features???
If im correct with the first question, then I will not flash a ICS rom immediately as I want to experience the S Pen and all its features to see if its for me. But I will want to Root it.
(Q) If I root my device will I still be able to update to the official ICS (When released) via a Update Notification or will I have to flash in a differant way???
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to becoming a part of the XDA Galaxy Note Community....

you are quite right my friend, the GB on note for now is perfectly fine if wanna try out the new features.. even i recently upgraded from s2 running ics and to be honestly the first day i was missing ICS badly but gb on note is different than when i first got s2 year back.. i am just waiting for the premium suite from samsung with specific new features for note and havent really been keen to try the cooked ics roms since i am more than satisfied having the note for over 2 weeks.. but eventually its what you want to do with your device that is the freedom of android but do give the forums a read as upgrading to ics has given many new users problems.. otherwise just root your LC1 ++ 2.3.6 rom and fall in love with note all over again.. enjoy your new phone and dont forget to get screen protector and some sexy cases cheers
You wont be able to use the s-pen's features on an AOSP/AOPK build. The only safe ICS roms at the moment are the CM9 based ones so you won't get any of the Samsung specific functions of the s-pen if you flash those.
You could flash an ICS rom based on the leaked firmwares and then use the DAFUQ kernel which to my knowledge doesn't have the flaws that could mess up your eMMC chip but that kernel is in alpha or beta status so some (minor) problems are to be expected when using it.
My advice, stay on GB for the moment. If you want to root, look for the thread in the Developer's section with the pre-rooted kernels. Just flash one of those with PC Odin and you're rooted without the chance of triggering the triangle and binary counter so you still have warranty. If you choose the same pre-rooted kernel as the one you are running now you should be able to OTA/Kies update your phone to the official ICS firmware when it's released but you'll lose root obviously.
There are some very good custom firmwares and great alternative kernels for GB in the Dev section as well if you still wanna tweak your Note.

GB is Gingerbread, the current version of Android OS on the Note. ICS is Ice Cream Sandwich, the updated version that will be released by Samsung in the near future.
Most alternative launchers can be themed, look for themes for your launcher in the Play Store.

Some people can wipe with affected kernels as often as they want without problems. Just because you didn't brick, DO NOT advise other users that they will be OK.

Hello.. I am just new here in xda.. I just bought my note 4 months ago and I think I am not maximing its potentials..My phone is already rooted.
I just want to ask your opinions on how can I make my phone cool/useful?
What rom are you on? Personally I believe the note should be more tablet like which is why I like cm based roms especially paranoid android 2.50. Gives you the option to have different display modes per app.
I also prefer a vanilla feel that helps with battery as all bloatware is removed.
This is impossible to advise really without knowing what you use the note for.

Flash 4.1.2 rom
You will feel like you have a note 2
Customising the Galaxy Note GT-N7000
It really depends what you mean by cool.........
Super fast - using kernels optimised for performance such as HydraCore
Bleeding edge Jelly Bean ROMs such as Paranoid Android
Rock solid TouchWiz ROMs such as Rocket ROM ICS and now JellyBean (based on recent leaked Samsung ROMs)
EyeCandy-tastic ROMs such as RocketMIUI
Pay attention to what these different ROMs don't do when you are considering which to flash and play with.
E.G. a lot of the stripped down ROMs and those based on CyanoGenMod don't have the Samsung productivity apps.
So if you love S-Memo, S-Note, S-Voice, look at the TouchWiz ROMs.
There are alternatives to all the Samsung productivity apps in the Google Play Store, if you find the ROM you want to stick with doesn't have them.
You are rooted, so you just need to get to grip with some of the basics of flashing ROMs..
Sujal has a great thread to take you through the whole process from out of the box to custom ROM and custom Kernel.
Chasmodo has a great thread which will help you understand what kernels are safe on the Note.
It is advisable to make a Nandroid backup of your current build through CWM before you start playing with different ROMs.
Then you can restore your working build through CWM if anything goes pear shaped.
The cool thing is that once you have got to grips with flashing and understand safe kernels, then you can flash as many different ROMs as you like until you find the one that suits you.
NOTE: Custom ROMs do not update OTA (Over The Air), through Kies or any other official update mechanism. You need to keep an eye on the thread for the custom ROM you are using and flash the updates from the thread.
Just in case you ever lose root (it does happen):
The best up to date guide for rooting is Dr. Ketan's Rooting Guide. (in my opinion)
Dr. Ketan really knows his stuff and will be happy to answer questions when he is around.
Phil3759 has another great rooting guide which may also help, and has potentially simpler methods for rooting.
You will need to pay attention to the N7000 specific elements of this thread to avoid any unintentional bricking.
I was wondering if there is a port of android 4.2.2 only. I'm not looking for a rom. I just want the current version of android.
I appreciate everyone's hard work with the roms there are some nice ones for the atrix hd, but I use my phone 80% work related so I think it's best if I don't use one until I get my new personal phone come Christmas,
Thank You!
You can't just port another phones ota. If you want 4.2 go custom.

I guess that wouldn't be a problem if I actually knew how to do any of that besides flashing another's port.
If you want 4.2.2, your best choice would be to go with a custom rom. To easily install different roms, it would be best to unlock the bootloader, root, and load cwm. Unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty which may be a problem for some users.
The latest official release is 4.1.2 and I think this is the end of the line for updates on the AHD.
I don't know that we're stuck at 4.1 stock I'm sure we'll get 4.2 eventually but that will probably be the last update. As for running 4.2 now I recommend the PAC man rom. I love it. No issues for me I'm running the July 3rd build.

I've already unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and loaded cwm.
I could care less about the warranty I had a problem with the sim card not clicking in place it would just pop out so I sent it in they had it for a week and half. I got a call asking me what the issue was I explained they said ok simple fix get it shipped back out to you today. I got it back 3 days later with nothing done to it.
you're looking for AOSP. Skeevy is building that soon, is just vanilla android, no customizations, just like google intended. lol
Hi, I want to root my S3 mini, above model, running Android 4.1.2. I'd love to be free of the huge amount of bloatware that came with the phone so I can optimise its functionality.
However, I previously tried to root my Samsung Galaxy Y and ended up bricking the phone in spite of various attempts.
The endless threads going off in different directions are not particularly helpful either.
Also, if I do manage to root the phone, how can I be sure that there won't be conflicts with Samsung firmware updates etc.
I'm trying to make the process as smooth as possible. I know people on here give their time freely and appreciate that but losing half a day just trying to get a bricked phone back to its original state is not much fun.
Hey bro while upgrading any samsung device it is told that if the device is rooted i may cause problems.. So i think the mistake you make is upgrading your phone after rooting which eventually leads you bricking your device....

you won't get any samsung updates after rooting so there won't be any conflicts.
maybe these videos will help you how to root and install a custom rom.
I'm using the I8190 and I can asure you, once you have found a ROM that fits your needs, you won't miss Samsung updates. You can simply flash the new ROM, or you can wait and have a look if there are problems reported, then you stay on the firmware.
Downgrade? No problem.
Wanna change Rom? No problem.
Once you got for root and maybe even an upgraded ROM you won't miss a thing
OK, how do I know what mod is the best given my spec?
You mean which ROM?
Well, you can try a few and see which one fits your needs best, simply search the forum
I was referring to the CyanogenMod 10.2 mentioned in the video posted.

I am just curious, with us being able to use Flash Fire now, what is the future of potential custom roms for our S5's ? It always seems when a new device comes out the older ones are forgotten. Personally i love my S5 i have no intention of getting an S6 because of the non removable battery and non expandable storage. I used Flash Fire to put the pre rooted version of 5.0 on my phone. I would love to see some custom roms in the future.

What's the name of the ROM?
I have finally begun my ROM project for the G900A. I was waiting for Lollipop to start it. No ETA.

I have released TMS5. Its not much yet but its a start. I have plenty more to do and it will see a lot of improvements as I get the time to build upon it.
