[Q] GPS and energy consumption - LG Optimus Black

Hi,
I am using Zeus 7.03 ROM which is great. I don't think that this issue is connected to the ROM itself because I had the same problem with the original stock ROM.
When GPS is turned on together with Don't Panic navigation application, the phone is experiencing a big battery drain.
Even if I am using it in the car, connected to the USB car charger, the phone is losing power, but in that case not so rapidly.
If trip is long enough, I will end up with turned off phone because of the lack of battery/charger power.
Is the same happening to you as well and is there anything I could do about it?
Regards.

Im having battery issues too, but wow, you have a serious battery problem..

My Kaiser stop charging while running app (USB linked to computer or car charger use)

Hi !!!
My Kaiser (Schap's lite 4.31) randomly stop charging, whenever it wants, at home (USB to computer) or in car (as GPS use for example)
With my laptop, i use my Kaiser for "Internet Sharing" to get HSDPA, the orange led stays for a while, and without raison, it turns green and blinks, as stand by mode. So battery decreases very fast. The only way to solve is to stop "Internet Sharing", then ActiveSync re sync, and then led shows orange charging again. Then i can start "Internet Sharing" again, but for how long ? Problem comes again and again...
In car, same problem. In GPS use, with car charger (brand Motorola), it starts Orange charging, and randomly, orange led stops and i'm back with green blinking, running on his own battery (but linked to car charger !!!)
With AC Charger, no charge problem.
Probably my Kaiser has charge problems while running apps ?
Somebody can help me ?
Well I have noticed this same behavior with my Tilt with various
roms. (Stock, Dutty's and now Garmins) It seems to me that at
the time the Tilt stops charging, the device is pretty warm. It
happend when tethered for ICS or when used as GPS. I may be
wrong but I have come to the conclusion that it is designed to
stop charging when the device reaches a certain internal temp.
Just using those two particular applications (ICS w/HSPDA and
GPS) causes the device to heat up, Combined with charging I
think it may be too much and the device stops charging to cool
off so that there isn't a component failure due to the heat build
up. I also say this because after an idle period with ICS (say I
am reading a long article) and the device cools a little it will start
to charge again. Likewise in the car with GPS.

This can help your problem to resolve,go to settings-system-power,make sure when device is turned on do not charge battery when connected to the pc,is unchecked.

@ Darkhynde : You're probably right !!! Last time i saw this non-charging behaviour, it happened after long GPS use (started on its own battery, summer temperature, hot in car, and it stopped charging 5 minutes after switching on car charger adaptor), and long, long HSDPA (more than 5 hours on USB) use.
Temperature must be the answer, you're the king
@ korakesion : Obviously option is checked
Thanks guys !!!

I've used my Tilt as a tethered USB modem during several disaster recovery tests for periods up to 14 hours and I've never had it stop charging.
But I can see the part about GPS because my phone gets hot as hell after 30 or so minutes with GPS running; still charges though...
100% Confirmed Temperatures is the key...
Not sure anyone is still reading this post... but I just want to let yo guys know that I have the same problem... (it stops charging when using internet sharing and it get really hot)
The only solution I have found is to put the Tilt in front of a fan... If you put the tilt in front of a fan... you can use internet sharing/GPS 24/7... done this a million times... and it works for days without a problem.
Hope this helps... take care everyone...
I've had my phone since October 2007 and have tethered with it pretty much everyday since dial up is the only other solution where I live and NEVER did the phone get hot or stop charging until yesterday. If while I am using ICS and I go into power settings and check don't charge while connected to PC and then immediately uncheck it it will charge for a few moments and then go back to flashing green. I put a new battery in and no difference. I hard reset the phone and tried ICS without loading anyhting on the phone still same thing. It charges any other way except when using ICS and I DO pay for tethering on mine.
Just an update to my situation. I plugged my phone into my other computer and used ICS and this time it charged until full (granted it was almost full already) So here I am on my laptop which it would not charge while using ICS and so far after about 10 minutes it is still charging. Only thing I did was poke around in the registry looking for some magic setting but I never changed anything. I don't know if leaving it on a wall charger all day and night did something or I just got lucky. Hopefully it will continue to work since i only have less than a month left on my 1yr warranty.

Doesn't this affect battery-life? I was under the impression you should not charge until the battery is (nearly) empty?
I have a feeling my hermes battery got wasted because the hermes starts charging every time I connect it to my pc (which is every day during office hours)
It's a defect. HTC sucks and I'll never buy one of their phones again. How disrespectful of them! I bought the phone hoping to use it as a modem permanently and go home to find the device heats up within 1 hour of usage and stops USB charging! I can't remain online for more than 2 hours without leaving the air conditioner on. What about the 3D display driver? No drivers! Down with HTC!

X1 charging issue

This problem just started last night and I can't figure out what's the cause of it. After a few hours into charging, the phone just turns itself on and charging stops!
I'm running stock rom with a few performance tweaks. I'm not sure whether this's software or hardware related and if a hard reset would fix anything.
Cheers.
Are you charging using a PC or directly from adapter?
if from PC, click on the battery icon when the device is on and make sure that "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC." is unchecked
I use the adapter to charge, I did try to untick the option afterwards and now just osberving if it does it again.
May be this's another bug when it's supposedly only applicable when charged from USB.
Charging issue and low battery life
Hi, I have had my X1 for 4 days now and overall I am very happy with the features, and I have obtained a lot of very useful tips from the XDA forum, thanks. However I am experiencing problems charging the phone and also not happy with the battery life. Last night I left the phone plugged into the USB of the pc that I installed activesync on (pc was, of course, also on) I switched the phone off and ensured that the charging light indicators were flashing. This morning the charging indicators were off but the phone was only partially charged. I then plugged the usb cable into the mains charger and the phone charged to full in 1.5 hours. Does this mean that charging via the pc is inefficient? During the day I made no calls and sent 2 texts, I did have messenger and skype running although I put the phone into sleep mode. Its now about 8pm and the battery has died. I have plugged the usb into my laptop (which does not have the activesync software on it) the charging lights are flashing but I dont think that the phone is charging as the battery is draining. I read on this forum that you must have activesync installed on the pc that you want to charge the phone on, but why is this. Whats the point of that, the whole point of being able to charge via usb is that you can top up anytime you are near a pc, and looking at the battery life I assume I will need to top up a lot. Can I have your thoughts please.
i have been in the same position.
it's probably because your laptop / pc is in hibernate mode / power saving mode..hence it doesnt charge.
try disabling it and see how it goes
Thanks for the prompt reply Berlinberlin
Hi I can confirm that my PC is set to turn off monitor after 20mins and to never turn off Hard Disks and never go into standby and never hibernate. So I don't think that this is the problem but thanks for your thoughts
How long does/should it take to fully charge the phone via usb? How long does it take yours to charge? Since I wrote the post above I have had my phone plugged into my laptop but with the phone swithed off, the charging indicators lights are pulsating. I have now turned the phone on and the battery is 40% charged from being nearly totally depleted (about one hour of charging) . I do not have Activesync on this pc, so the phone will charge on any PC, I assume.
hello.
once i had one x1 charged via usb over night (with a pc with active sync)
the battery depleted the next morning and it doesnt turn on again
so maybe it's better to quit active sync before charging?

The charging problem I've observed has a different effect:
when on charge using the adaptor, the battery charges OK to full and then charging ceases (as it should do)
BUT
if the X1i is connected to WiFi on my LAN, after a time (maybe 30 mins), it commences to recharge and never stops, so the battery can become dangerously overheated.
Disconnecting from WiFi and soft-reset seems to bring the system back to normal.
At this stage I don't know the root cause, but I have a new battery on order. When this turns up, I'll try the same routine and post results. Obviously, I suspect (hope, too) that the "smarts" in the battery are faulty.
x1 charging problem
I' have the same problem with my x1 charging.
The phone after i started charging, turn on and stop the charging.
In the mornig the battery is low.
Is there any solution that fix the problem?

In your case I tend to think the problem is with Wi-Fi using more battery than what it's gaining through charging. I had similar problem with a generic mini-USB charger. Most charging problems are associated with either battery or charger itself.
Even i had a same issue,
But i luckily remembered the setting which i had changed,
Try this,
Setting`s->System-> Power-> Advanced Tab
{code}
Make sure u have selected this option and set it to minimum value,
"Turn off device if not used for"
{code}
Hope this solves issue

Galaxy S drain to 0% while on AC power

Hi,
I have recently moved to Gingerbread 2.3.5 (JVS) on Galaxy S. I am now facing a strange battery issue: Whenever I put the phone on AC power it charges to 100% but then stops charging and never restarts it unless I manually unplug and replug the cable.
If I unplug it 1 hour after I hear the full-charge beep it will show 98%. Not much of a problem.
But last night I used WLAN hotspot, which drains a lot of battery. I plugged the phone to provide enough power. At one point I heard the full-charge beep. 2 hours later when I unplugged it it showed 27%! Why didn't it restart charging if the battery was nearly flat?
I never had this issue with Froyo.
What could be the problem here?

You not searching a bit before posting is the problem
Don't mean to be rude or anything but there is a huge thread going on and several others were also made talking about this. Long story short:
- any gingerbread samsung rom (and all based on) in SGS has this major bug you've just experienced since day one.
- Samsung doesn't care to correct it even if they have released lots of updates that don't actually fix anything major like this. And they even have the gal to tell people they won't bother with ICS on our phone when they never got around fixing bugs this serious on their current release.
- there's no fix i'm aware of, don't bother changing kernels or anything else. Some people say changing your USB settings to MTU (kies compatible) work. I've personally tested it doesn't.
- Workarounds: either you charge your phone while it's off or you change your phone's rom to one that's not samsung related like cyanogen, miui or ICS.
Yeah!!! I have the same Problem too bro !!! But not just 27% ,I was watch video on YouTube until midnight and than unplug it.Suddenly My phone turned off by it's self. (Sorry for my bad English)

Battery issues - i9000 - Darky ROM 10.4.2

I'm using Darky ROM 10.4.2, My Galaxy S has been in use for almost a year now (i bought it second hand early last year), it has been running great up until this morning. I have always charged my phone while I sleep and everytime i'm next to the computer and have USB cable handy. I more than often charge directly from a computers USB or from a plug socket to USB converter i have (designed for phone charging).
Anyway what happened this morning was I woke up and my phone was really hot, and a message was on the screen saying that the battery is too hot or too cold and that charging has been paused.
I removed the battery and took it off charge and let the phone cool down. After rebooting, the phone seemed to be working fine, however when I tried charging via USB, I noticed that the phone recognizes that its charging (i.e. the charging animation icon comes up), however the percentage does not increase no matter how long i leave it charging (did it for about 30 minutes this morning). I thought this may have been a battery stats problem, so just to be safe I cleared the battery stats in CWM recovery. However the problem seems to remain. Although, I'm not sure whether its charging fully if i switch the phone off instead of booting it, as again it does recognize that its charging, but the battery meter in that case has no % and I can't actually make out whether its increasing or not.
Any ideas on what I need to do? Whether that's to buy a new battery, flash a new ROM, or anything else I could attempt?
(I'm aware a lot of battery problems are reported, but after searching I could not find one that particularly matches whats happening to mine.)

[Q] Hotspot Draining Battery While Charging i9305

As above really.
I'm using my phone as a wireless tether for my laptop. The screen is turned off during this usage and the phone is plugged into the mains via the std adapter. I've noticed that the battery life goes down rather than charging. Oh, also, I'm using the phone in forced 3G mode when the signal is pretty low.
Is this normal for this sort of use? With the SII it still charged, all be it a tiny bit slower. Just wondering if it's an issue with the phone.
Thanks
Anyone? Am I doing something wrong here, I never seem to get any replies on here.
