Help! I need to unlock my phone and I don't know how!!
The wiki is helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-I897

Think you can just use superoneclick root app for computer with phone connected. Can search boards for soc.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
Thats to root the phone not unlock it, there is an app in the Captivate Developers forum just search and you will find it.
To unlock the samsung SGH I897 CAPTIVATE,You can use the unlock code. You can buy the unlock code from Online site and unlock it...I suggest the site
Wickedunlock.com there you can buy the code for samsung SGH I879 Captivate.,unlock it.
unlocking captivate
there is two ways to unlock the cappy. The most successful one that i have used multiple times is sgs unlock pro I am not sure if the app is still on the market but you should be able to find it on the web or on the app 4shared
Use Galaxy_s Unlock from the market. Its free and worked for me.
Use this. Remember to back up thaat EFS folder on more than JUST your phone. If by any chance it messes up or something else happends that EFS back up will save you a IMEI rebuild....
Can you ask AT&T?

Unable to Unlock, Unable to root
Hi Guys,
I am trying to unlock my captivate SGH-I897 by myself (not buying a code) and I am having some trouble in doing it. I have done several steps, each time going backwards to a preview requisite but now I am stucked.
First, I downloaded from the market the app Galaxy S Unlock and when I try to see the SIM Unlock code I get error "You have a busybox problem, fix it."
From this app I cant also save the actual efs folder.
Since I saw that error, I download from the market "Busy Box Free" and when I try to install it, I get the error "The su binary was not found on your phone. This application will not work without root", so I said, let's try to root my cell, this is how I got here and found the topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304.
I downloaded that app to my PC, followed the step but when my captivate restarts and enters into Android Sys Recovery and I try to reinstall the packages I get the following:
"--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
And from this point on I dont know what to do.
Basically what I have done is:
Galaxy S Unlock > Busy Box > Root > Stucked....
I try to post in the One Click root/unroot post bu since I am noob, I couldnt.... Hope you can help guys

thanks for the recommendation...
Now I tried to download the update file from here 3w.box.com/shared/jrlqei92q6 and I saved it into my captivate.
Once I had the file in the phone, with Lidia File Manager I moved it from downloads to SD card root. Turned off the phone, entered to recovery and tried to reinstall the packeges and still get the same error
"--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
Any other clue????

You are on something that isn't 2.1 so you have 3e recovery. The other method I mentioned works on GB so it should work with 3e.

It looks like you have Froyo on your phone, and will need to flash a kernel with CWM/root already baked into it. You'll need Odin or Heimdall (look in the stock rom master collection sticky in the Development section - it's at the end of the first post in that thread), and the Speedmod Kernel. Flash the k13e.tar file, and you should be good to go with no 3e issues.

^ In fact, after checking "about" on settings I realized froyo was the issue.
I thought a was not gonna be able to do what you said, but after looking up and reading the guides and downloading the right kernel I was able to root my cell!!!
Once it got root, I was also able to install busy box free and use Galaxy S Unlock... So I finally got it done!
Thanks bassplayer and jmtheiss!!!
I have taken the liberty of packing up the official update with Root access. Initially it will be available via PM only, after a few users have tested and verify that it works for them as well, I will release the link publicly.
I have removed a lot of the T-Mobile/Dell pre-installed junk. Also, I replaced the boot logo with a Blue Honeybee, if you don't like it I can provide an update.zip that will restore the Dell/T-Mobile logo.
MD5SUM (please verify before flashing, also make a Nandroid backup) - 971426ED95EA7CD564714EE5A29E61A1
Should be fixed now, uploading to my server, the link is the same as before - note the new MD5SUM. I left out a closing parenthesis in the updater-script, my apologies to everyone who already downloaded it. I will post a new post when the upload is complete, thanks for working with me on this.
Hope this helps some people out.
Alright, it would appear that I have this ready to go. So, without further ado, here is your link. If anyone (please) would like to mirror it for me, give a link and I will add it here as well.
By clicking here you acknowledge that you understand the risks you are taking flashing an update package from someone you do not know or trust (that would be me). If anything happens to your device, I'll try my best to help via PM or Email, but I take no responsibility. Only you are truly responsible for what you do to your property, ok... Here you go.
i would be happy to test it out.
i have not yet updated due to many bricks after yesterdays update...so instead i waited for this..i knew it would come...i wasnt gonna ruin my root and CWR for a meazly update such as this...now for GB or HC i might have tried...but anyways happy to test let me know how i can get it from you...im waiting on my device to charge now...soon as its done ill boot CWR and give it a go if you provide the file

Ok, the deal is this...
Boot into recovery
NANDROID BACKUP - DO NOT SKIP!!!!!!!!!
Flash rom from zip
Reboot
Test for Superuser rights.
No wipe should be needed.
And just to be 100% on this, do not do this if you are the least bit concerned about something going wrong. Also, you should have a good working knowledge of Android and willingness to troubleshoot it. The Nandroid backup is your safety net, as this update.zip will NOT remove ClockworkMod recovery - meaning you can roll back to your backup if it is not to your liking). If you flash this and boot up and find you don't have root, you can either restore your backup, or seek some personal help from me. However, it is my birthday and I will be pretty busy today.
ohh not really concerned, i still have one day remaining to take this device back to tmo and if not i can call dell, make my wife cry at em a bit...ill get a new tablet...i work IT...when something breaks, i make it my personal duty to try to get the manufacturer to cover the expense. if not thats on me...i trusted the update. anyhow i thank you for this daveid, and i will let you know as soon as this light turns green. thanks agian. happy birthday...your generous on your b-day providing something usful to others in the community...i like that.

It's all about the community. Once the update was decrypted, I was all over it.
Besides, I wanted to update my tablet too (the process will help me decide if I want to keep the thing or not).
i hear you, if i didnt own a g1 and mytouch 3g prior to this...i would have NEVER rooted this thing, and in doing so i would have never kept it. that g1 really opened up my eyes for possibilites to come on android, so i stuck with. the reason i asked for your full set of instructions is because i recall some roms being flashed with wipe and some not...i just want my experience to be great when i let the public know that you sir ARE THE MAN!

You have Clockworkmod recovery right? Did you verify the MD5Sum?
I am out doing birthday stuff now, but can be of more assistance later.
Might have a typo in my updater script, will check when I get home, sorry.
i did verify the md5 sum with fast sum...same md5 as the one you gave...still a noo goo...and yes i have clockwork...that is how i performed the steps in my previous post...i almost typed out the actual options word for word...but its still pretty close
no problem i do remember reading about it being an updater script error. let me know what you get...im going to lunch...gotta test my belly...then ill be back to test your greatness in progress

Try using the 450MB SBF.
I unbrick my Droid use this solution:

And update still not going :/
I'm Rooted with for3v3r root, had updated to 5.7.893, then reflashed 5.5.886 but the OTA update won't install (I do receive it though).
I am sooo sick of the 3G drops, what are my options? How can I install this update??
I'm wondering if I took it back to Verizon, showed them that it won't install if they'd replace it? I'm back to totally stock now.

need more information as to why it's failing. In General here there is a thread that has the update in zip format. you can flop that bad boy on the root of your sd and then use traditional recovery (also in that thread) to flash it.
If it fails because of zumo then you just have to download the zumo app and put it in preinstall on your SDCARD.
Where is the update? They have the 5.5.893 update zipped already?? The official one?
I'm not sure why it's failing. I haven't removed any of the "bloat" as far as I know, I'm assuming it has something to do with the 5.7 update.

peep that thread, zip is in the first page. I didn't touch the bloat either, I'm still not 100% sure why I had to do what I did, but when I copied that to my sdcard, put the zumocast apk(rootz or google) in the preinstall folder it worked like a charm.
flashed with default recovery as the thread mentioned states also...

"the 5.5.893 OTA update is the same update that we had leaked to us months ago. Compare the kernal and radio file numbers with someone who's just run it to your own. If you properly updated yourself to 5.7.893 before, then you should find you have the same kernal and your radio files are newer. You have no reason to want to downgrade yourself to 5.5.893 as its the same kernal and earlier radios." -- 2def on rootz

weird... if you're not on rootzwiki, you should sign up and ask over there, more attention is being given there it seems... I have a feeling youre "stuck" because you took the leak, but I think your about will be the same as my official about... which is also floating around somewhere (not mine but someones)...
like you said though, that would indicate more drops etc.... but that's contrary to other reports

It is checking your kernel for the 886 version ("boot" is the kernel and it is checking the md5). I think you said you were on 5.7.893? So its going to fail since you can not, for now, downgrade to that kernel.
I guess the rumor going around is that the next update will be 5.7.893 and at that point you will be updated to that OTA, and ready for the next update. Also the rumor is, and these are just rumors, that the ICS update will work with any system version.
Frankly I don't see the point in not allowing phones to update. Yes, if you are already updated it won't downgrade, but as far as going from 5.7.893 to the next version, I think they should be allowed. Wouldn't you want all phones to be running with updated kernel/radio/system. All it does is punish those that install leaks for no other reason than getting access early.
Yea even though you went back to 886 it didn't change your kernel. Your are stuck with the kernel that got flashed when you installed the 5.7.893 leak. (Moto is kind of jerky about their bootloader encryption) You cannot flash the 5.5 leak because you have a different kernel than the official. If your Bionic is working ok though its not big deal atm, the word on the street is you will still be able to ICS.
Everything works, just my 3G data drops are HORRIBLE!!
found by me. cheesecake staging third server. posted pics on droidhive
EDIT: UPDATE. well after a full day of messing with the leak update i can say
1. radio update fixed the connection issues including lte, 3g, and wifi issues that lately were getting worst
2. battery life greatly went up a bit compared to what i used to get out out .902 and .905
3. color and screen seem to be more "vibrant" than before. good thing imo
4. had issues with playing youtube and netflix last night but a quick reset of the phone and issues were gone
5. have no issues with the face unlock
6. i've messed with nearly every feature and option and everything is running smooth as butter. no random reboots nor connection issues
7. successfully rooted using motorola 4.0.4 root method
8. camera works great and quickly too. image stabilization added on both pictures and video recording
now if your on and off about updating well take my word that you'll be happy with the update. if your one of the many like I that started to hate the damn phone because of the latest connection issues or crappy updates, this will make you fall in love with the beast that is the first 4G LTE verizon Motorola DROID Bionic
will be posting pictures up soon!

I think I'll wait on this one. Don't want to get burned like some other model users did on a leak.
is it possible to flash back to .902/.905 from this ICS?
I am on 905 rooted but stock and hadn't even removed the bloat. However I cannot install this update it fails just after it tried to "verify current system" the error says
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/logwrapper". then what appears to be the output of two md5sum runs
then
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip

You can't be rooted.
You may have or have had either Clockwork Mod Recovery installed or Safestrap. Whenever I use CWM and then wish to remove it, I do the following:
1. I uninstall it through normal methods
2. Then I navigate to "/system/bin"
3. I delete the file named "hijack"
4. I then delete the file named "logwrapper" and rename the file "logwrapper.bin" to just "logwrapper"
This always seems to completely remove any traces of CWM. Hope this helps!
fxz back to stock and try it again...
so lapdock doesn't work on this?

Update: opened up that script and saw where I had some lines added from forever root, removed those lines and am currently installing ICS
You must have used a version of 4everoot that modified the mount-ext3.sh file to keep root through an update. You will have to either FXZ or manually re edit that file to remove the lines at the bottom that protect root.

Whoops did that and updated my post just before I saw your post. Thanks for the input.
you have to be completely unrooted for this update to work? thats kinda silly
