[Q] Ics few questions! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, i have 3 ics questions if you can help me. I installed crash rom a week ago and i have this questions.
1) My phone is a lot of time hot, is this normal on ics or is for the rom? If the phone is hot, means that the battery is drainning?
2) I have the rom for a week, its recommended to do a battery calibration? If yes, any good method to do it?
3) When long press the middle button a list of app appears. This app are in memory drainning my bat or not? i usually have at least 10.
Well thanks for you help and sorry but my english.
Regards.

1. Download cpu spy to check what's using the cpu and what level its at, there may be a rogue app, or maybe the kernel is the issue.
2. There's no real thing such as battery calibration, the battery will settle after 2 or 3 full cycles after flashing a new rom. Just let it do its thing.
3. Android has a good memory management which is improving all the time. Something in memory does not use battery, only if it's using cpu and screen or peripherals does it use battery, so no, you don't have to worry about the memory management.

You need root permissions in order to use Battery Calibration, if i remember right.
In my personal experience i wiped only once battery stats, ad i did it via CWM. Remember to fully charge battery before doing that!

I'm satisfied with this.
JuiceDefender plus or ultimate are good (ultimate doesn't do too much more than plus other than lots of fine tweaking for those who enjoy it), and if you're rooted CPU tuner is excellent to customise frequency and governor management over the range of battery. I actually prefer the UI of CPU tuner to SetCPU, and it is free.
https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.amana.android.cputuner
IMPORTANT: wiping battery stats doesn't do anything for your battery life!!!
Hmm battery calibration not extend the battery life it only display accurate reading of your battery, your battery consumption depends upon the appication you are using and stock, although is a good result of battery although stock app is good and heavy loaded but still it have good battery beacuse of its coding in framework.odex files and it also depends on your baseband like i am using under config files
Rom- The myth ICS beta2
Rom build- Custom Stock ROM
Baseband- Previous was DDKQ6 now XWKS2
App use to save battery- Power MAx pro
My usage Type Heaviest icludes -approx 4 hour wifi,Youtube movie approx 3 hours, always on 3g connection, games 30 min or less, Music played 4 to 5 hours Calls 10-15 min, Messaging 2 hours and my battery last upto 18 to 20 hour without compromise Thus by good baseband with Custom stock rom and app u save your battery i wll upload my screenshot too
So its a good deal for me

[Q] about Galaxy Mini RAM Processing

Hi Guys
I have a few question about our device RAM
1. What are you doing if your device get lagging or slow down?
- Kill App using Taks Killer to refresh your RAM?
- Just Reboot the device to reset your RAM?
- Leave your device (LOL)
- what about you? have an opinions?
My Device get slow down while browsing after >20Min, I think the reason because the RAM goes down or less than 25MB.
then my device got freeze and reboot automatically.
I hear an issue about task killer app thats bad for our system.
so I'm using app like RAM Manager or Watchdog.
2. How much RAM are you running to get stable?
My device at startup have remaining about 100~125MB RAM.
and after a few hour its goes down about <70MB.
while browsing its about <50MB. this is normal?
how about you?
I'm Running CM9 (ICS 4.0.4) right now.
Its very stable, but goes crazy after RAM run under 50MB.
I'm need your opinion guys to make RAM more batter.
Thanks for your advice.
Sorry for my bad English.
Quick reply : use a RAM/performance optimizer like adrenaline engine or another script... Uninstall others RAM manager and let me know (you find it in developing section)

If you are using AOKP, in performance settings there is low memory value, try adjusting it.
Never ever 'clear' your RAM, it will worsen your battery. Android is capable by managing the RAM by itself if it gets high. So there is no question whether the RAM meter would blow if it gets full. Read more : Article by Lifehacker

yeah, I know that. Thats way I using RAM Manager not using Task Killer App.
I tried to believe my device can control RAM it self, but in the fact after a few hour my device got freezing then reboot its self (This problem often encountered when browsing)
Thanks for the Advice guys,
I think the most problem it from our device it self, you know this is Low Device right?
so I cant expect much about the device
but I'll try to find for the best RAM tweak/setting.

To be honest...my device never slows down.
I suggest adjusting the ram values a little higher but not too high. Like with the visible and foreground one might freeze ur phone . Play with it.

a GB or ICS user are you?
GB are more stable than ICS
If my phone just standby is very stable, if just use for like messaging, FB, chatting or similliar like that.
but if you go browsing for >20Min, I think you can feel it.

Unknown issue with auto-shutdown on Galaxy note GT N7000!

Hello everyone!
I have recently purchased a galaxy note, and since then have had a constant problem of auto shutdown, at the beginning it happened once or twice so I didn't even mind, but now its just becoming too frequent for the phone to even be usable!
I can't return the note, and have no warranty (nor money to buy another one). Son no viable solution there.
I sold my previous phone so I could buy the Note, without it I am phoneless.
I have looked EVERYWHERE for a solution and haven't come to one single conclusion yet!
I will now post some facts about the phone's situation:
Model GT N7000
Rooted: yes, via cwm
Rom: Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Beta, flashed via cwm (but the issue occurred on stock ICS, gingerbread and costom ROMs too, stock ROMs where flashed via PC ODIN and mobile ODIN)
Kernel: Phillz flashed via cwm
-Does not shut down while connected to charger (and is charging).
-Tried different kernels and ROMs, official and custom ones, and the bug kept happening.
-Shutdowns are completely random (although I found that using ROM Toolbox and setting CPU min to 500 and governor to Performance the phone became more stable and didn't shutdown so frequently. Recently these last 3 days this has become pointless, the phone is unusable unless connected to charger)
-Auto shutdowns happen when phone is in sleep, or awake, no matter what I am doing with it, it just happens.
I am thinking of replacing the battery, since no matter what software changes I do it keeps shutting down maybe a new battery will help.
But then again, I don't know, I'm just desperate...
Thank you for all those who take the time to read this!
Interesting, maybe the logs show something. Check logcat app for that. Elixer2 has a good overviewable one. There might be some hints shown as to what is happening. I cant really help you with interpreting.
Do you do clean installs? mind the brickbug
Battery levels, they show correct values? Also after reboot same value as before? You can set in settings, display I think battery tp percent. Easier monitoring from statusbar.
Try andrometer to check voltage levels as wel. Fully charged should be around 4200 mv.
Do a little dance to brighten up your mood.
Next, or first, check if battery contacts are clean and alligned when putting battery in. It might just be a loose fitting. I doubt that thought.
With autoshutdown, you seen android saying, shutting down now, or does it go black and just crashes so to speak?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Thank you so much for the help!
I have been suggested to purchase another battery, and had actually been thinking about that!
Will andrometer confirm my suspicions that it is a battery issue?
The battery connectors are clean, cleaned them when this problem first appeared.
And the shutdown is as if I suddenly removed the battery, the power is cut right off the device.
I cant dance but I'll play guitar, that always helps me, thank you for the suggestion! xD
hum, not software related imo, really an hardware issue, electrical issue, related to battery as it does not occur while charged.
first of all: easily done: remove any SD card and try. still the Pb?
then borrow another battery, fully charged, and try. Still the PB?
then with your own battery again (as it does not come from the battery), check the electrical contacts (dirty, embossed...), try to check that mechanically the battery is firmly kept in place, add sticky tape/pieces of paper to maintain the battery. Still the PB?
then i am afraid that the best to do is going to... after sale service... it may be only a small welding a bit cracked on the power circuit, sometimes a small vibration or a temperature difference opens the power line and your phone immediately shut down. It is almost impossible to locate and to fix for common people.
good luck mate !
Side note: setting CPU min to 500 and then setting governor to Performance is pointless, because performance = always max CPU frequency.
Anyway, I can think of various ways of checking whether your CPU is misbehaving at some frequencies (like SetCPU stress tests on different freqs set to both min and max) but that's likely not the case, all signs do point to some kind of battery issue.
If I were you, I'd try to find a battery somewhere (friend/relative/whoever else with GNote, or even a shop) and see if the problem persists with another battery. If it disappears = buy a new battery, whether official or copy or bigger size, whatever. If it persists = at least try to flash some more customizable rom/kernel combination, of ICS kind - where you can over/under-clock/volt.
Thank you saturax555 and GwynBleidd for your suggestions!
Unfortunatlly I dont know anyone close to me that has got a Gnote, but I will buy the battery and test it out, its not expensive at all, I've seen a 2600 (Or 2400, can't quite remember) mha battery for salle somewhere, if it fixes the issue I'll even end up with a larger battery!
I'll inform you guys of the results after I get a new battery, so if anyone else has the same problem we can help them too

+1 on all above comments. It does appear battery/ hardware issue. Lets hope a new battery fixes it.
Andrometer will only confirm if charging level is reached. Also you can use it to check if at certain voltage this occures. It gives false positive on good health battery. So thats not a thorough indicator.
Guitar is way cooler btw

So I got battery spy today and these are the results so far (See image).
My voltage is usually around 3900mV and 4300mV, usually at 4192mV, can anyone say if these values are normal??

Appears normal. Battery appears charged. app is called androsensor, mixed them up.
Do you get weird artifacts prior to fallout? Like screen flickering, lines and such?
Am so interested in cracking this nut.
You could check emmc brickbug app. You will have bug as all notes, but it also does a sector check. Like if part of emmc is corrupted. Am not expecting this to be case as clearly its battery related. Just want to be sure.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
No flickering or anything, it's just like if I suddenly removed the battery.
Got new results from emmc check and I downloaded andrometer
Thank you so much for your help!
Cool.
I have a hunch its not battery, cause unstable battery usually(not 100% sure about symptoms) has those flickering issues.
Its not emmc, test passed yes!
you had it on different roms. With clean installs and different modems, kernels, etc. No common denominator romwise. maybe app or hardware.
Then its interesting to keep both cpu temp and battery temp in check. See if there are spikes prior to fallout. cpu temp I am not sure. you can try cooltool, disable gauges and setup cpu utilization, frequency, ram size, battery % and temperature.
watch those values for abnormalities when it occurs.
Also check the logs for errors/warnings (elixer2 has a good one)
But I am at a point of really guessing. I have a feeling its hardware but am hoping now for rogue app or battery still.
maybe someone else has some ideas.

I had this same issue.. Mine was bought last year.. Just around 2 weeks ago i want to root and put a custom Rom...
I root using cf-root + philz kernel.. Then i flash rocketrom 4.1.2... V3 i think.. Then this issue came.... It 's does have flickering issue before it' s going off.. This all thing doesn't happen while on charge... I'm still not try using others battery..... I also have flash others custom Rom.. Like Ultimate, fusion.... And lastly i unroot it using stock fw at sammobile.. Still it's happen
Try changing the battery, that fixed my note right up!
Is the symptoms are the same as mine its not software related, order a new battery, and if you want you can root and flash the rom that you want so when it arrives your note is ready to go!
Tip: root the note and get battery calibration from the play store, it's free, you will need it to recalibrate your new battery so you get real values displayed and to avoid excessive battery drain.

I'm facing the same problem and its getting frustrating. I'm currently using Asylum ROM 20130303 build and latest Gapps for android 4.2. did a full wipe. tried checking my battery stats and its normal. did a recovery, flashed again but still problem. my gnote just shutdown and cant turn back on unless i plug the charger. any help?
may be you first need to try with an alternate battery first.. or go back to a stock rom and test.. most prominent symptom is using the camera with flash shuts down the phone immediately
i purchased a new battery and now its running fine
The phone is flawed and shuts off on it's own under various conditions, all hardware related. I am not able to post externally due to not having enough posts yet. However, I have had the same issue on 3 Galaxy Note 2's from Verizon. I made a video that shows exactly what is going on and posted it on the following website...
wwwDOTgalaxynote2shutsoffDOTcom
You will have to paste that link in to a new browser and replace the DOTs accordingly to get to it, but once you see the video, you will be enlightened. Be sure to read the details I provided on that site as well. They go in to detail about the problems that I have had and the lack of proper support that Samsung is willing to provide.

I seem to have the same issue
1. Battery drains rather bad
2. Screen flickering
3. Auto shutdowm
Used the battery in my wifes n7000 , however no issues at all
Only seem to happen on my phone.
I flashed it to stock std 4.1.2 , however problem still persist. auto shutdown few times a day
Gets worse when i use an external SD

High battery drain

I am using tha stock ics but the battery gets empty verry fast.
With 1 hour using Facebook With 3G the battery gets from 100 to 60 and less easily.
When I am not using it at night and With 2G it empties 10 easily.
Can anyone explain me where is the problem?
I am putting a pic with using viber and Facebook With 3G

Did you wipe the cach and dalvik??? Worth trying this to see if this resolves the issue but backup your files first.
If not then, back everything up and try and full device restore.
Is that a full stock of LG ics? I think not much you can do about that. Other than trying one of the custom ROMs and getting battery efficient kernels.

Also here I report high battery drain.
Stock ICS ROM, rooted at first, then tried a battery usage data reset with no result.
Factory restore, same.
Wiped caches and dalvik cache (with CW recovery), phone bricked.
Un-bricked and reinstalled ICS stock, with CivZ_StormTrooper_rev3 kernel mod. Now with No Frills CPU & Juicedefender free, less than 10 hours without using phone (just data / h3g mode on).
First item in consumption list, "Android OS".
Any ideas?
Thank you
First. you should think about using an custom ROM based on stock. carburano Rom is Good but also Jishnu Sur´s rom is Awesome.
If you afraid to Root you Phone, it´s as easy a 1 2 3 nowadays just use this awesome Tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
Reason: Many of programms you don´t need are removed my first consumption is WIFI. So even if i have WIFI on all day, my phones is steady till the night.
Second. Reset Battery status in CWM
Third. You using a damn smartphone dont expect s**t that this will hold many days this is no Nokia 3210 BTW if you use it that means u use Battery Facebook BTW is one if the most active Programms i know. There´s "high drain" in Order.

Leaving phone without PIN (white keyboard with PIN request) drain 5% battery in 2 mins.
Battery usage lists
Cell Standby
Android OS
Screen
Android System
Phone idle
Detail on Cell Stanby
Time on: 27m 37s
Detail on Android OS says:
CPU Total 1m 13s
Keep awake 12m 36s
I'm not sure if before ICS upgrade the "keep awake" time was so high, but I remember it was more lower than Time On. Just now Android OS is passed to 1st place in consumption list
How can I discover if it's an Android or battery related problem?

i like the ES-task manager with root permissions it shows you what could be blocked autorunning and what you should let active
Without changing your system you could give "Juice Defender" a try, just look up in Appstore. I have no experience with this app, but it trys to defend your juice
I handled it by using some custom rom (recommending 4.1.2 and not 4.2.1 -> better battery life so far, look up some CM 10 ROM)
in dev forum pengus77 is working on some awesome kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097788) that also raises battery life enormous.
with all that stuff my 2X works very nice since a few days.
BUT: read instructions befor you do anything please!

No. Just wait some time, I think that battery needs to calibrate itself with charging. I tried CM11, in first it was awfull, after 2-3 charges it is becoming usable. But still CM10.2 and CM11 based ROMs are battery eaters. Try CM10.1.
Thanks very much for y quick answers ...i hope that it can to remedy the battery okey but i try too cm 10.1 ...thanks again :good:
Next time when you flash rom or even update to official firmware make sure your battery is always 100%, not 80, not 90 but 100%... I had problem with discalibrated battery cause i update from Ginger Bread to official Samsung Jelly Bean firmware and my battery gone crazy... Try charge-discharge couple of times as shut-down says... This problem could be a swollen battery too cause you say that your phone turns off when you are at 25-28%... To be sure that your battery isn't swollen, turn your phone off and make this steps:
step 1: Take the battery out of the phone.
step 2: Put it on a level (flat) surface.
step 3: Try spining the battery, if it spins freely than it's swollen, if it doesn't spin it's good and try this on the bouth sides of the battery.

Battery caliberation problem. caliberate using battery caliberation app or delete batterystats file
Discharge to 0%, full charge to 100%. And leave it some time (don't plug off your charger), maybe hour and more.
Type this in Terminal editor: cat /sys/kernel/abb-chargalg/eoc_status
And wait untill it says the real EOC reached.
{sent from my mind}
if I help you, simpe just hit the thanks button.
i was having the same issue with Carbon 4.4.2 build 3, i did this:
*Uncharged the phone until 12-15%
*Rebooted phone 7% battery (every time i rebooted i losted 5% no matter what)
*Charged phone good 4 hours and then ran Battery Calibration APK (battery Calibration was showing 4120mha)
*Rebooted left phone alone 15 minutes ran Battery Calibration APK again (battery now was showing 4245mha)
*Ran greenify, hibernated almost all apps except whatsapp (bug with that was launching Player pro instead)
*Disconnected phone went to settings/performance changed:
Cpu Governor to :Abyssplug
Minimum CPU freq: 200mhz, Max: 800, set on boot.
I/O Scheduler: Deadline,set on boot.
Memory Managment: Zram to 10%, Allow purging of assets and KSM, also 16bit transparency.
i had 100% battery from 1am to 5am (whatsapp, fast for facebook, player pro, traffic racer, heavy wifi, screen never went off) at 4:35-40 i had 57% battery, to 5am i was having 55%, slept til 11am from that on i haven't used my cellphone too much but i have 35% current battery...for me its okay since i alway have a backup battery.
Pdt: i owe you the picture im in my office and don't have an usb cable with me.

It started on wintersport :') with the hybrid rom installed. But maybe it is because of the water damage in my phone. All the sensors are broken expect the sensors on the front of the phone.

Yea it must be that, cause of the water and the electricity make short circuit( more electric curreny than proper) and the battery gets damaged easily...
