I have been thinking about this for some time now ... How does the htc sense skin changer work? From my experience with android ... A change to framework-res.apk needs a reboot to take full effect ... Like the metamorph app ... It works similarly ... It takes the files from ur sdcard and patches the framework ...
This is where im confused ... To make changes like this ... U need to be rooted and also need to reboot ... And even if it worked the same way wouldnt nand lock just restore it? How is it this skin changer works? If it does work this way ... How the heck does it stay the same ... Or is it like framework-res.apk is an empty shell that has links to the external files?
Could some1 with root please give their framework-res.apk before and after changing the skin? Like from htc to slate or wood ... I want to see what is really happening here ...
Ps if this belongs in the general please could the mod move there? Im extremly sorry if it does ... It is related to root and nand lock so i thought id post here ...

hmm, when u got temp root check for the rights that are set on the file, on this way you probably get you answer
what i think is that specific files are excluded, so they are editable
btw isnt the skinchanger for the launcher only? than its mostlikely just an xml thats been loaded...
it changes the notification bar too
It's a good question, one I am surprised I didn't wonder... I will pull a part the apk to see if I find anything
It doesn't replace the framework-res, because the battery mod sticks when changing theme, so I presume it overlays it in some way
Please test this app.
http://www.androidblip.com/android-apps/quick-reboot-96948.html
Teoretical this reboot ONLY all android processes and Android Interface but NOT physically phone.
Maybe modified files on partition / and partition /system (eg flamework) will not disappear ...

Ok guys i ripped up the frameworks before and after changing skins ... And they were the exact same thing ... It seems that the skin changer overlays the existing looks with the theme ... So no changes to the frameworks ... It just overlaps the.framework images with external ones ...
Wow

But where is it mirrored? Could sum1 with some app experice please check the code out? There are two possibilties here ... Either it is mirror from somewhere in the system partition ... So it can bypass nandlock ... Or it is mirrored from the sdcard ... So we can make our own themes even for s-on devices

Here skins for Sense 2.0

And here for Sense 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048894
The Desire HD until it wasn't S-OFF: First temp root then paste modified "framework-res.apk ' to /system/framework, then hot-reboot (eg this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.grrmode.quickreboot&feature=search_result), and this worked, maybe it's same with Incredible S?
No i mean like ... The app dosent even touch the feameworks ... It works from files from somewhere else ... Is that /system or the sdcard? Like if u download an extra skin from the HTC Hub... Where is it stored?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Skins taken from HTC HUB, are simply installing APK to "/data/app".
Flamework-res.apk is in /system/framework to be applied need to reboot the phone. In DHD, when there was no S-OFF helped hot-reboot, it restart android interface but modified files stayed.
APK files modify with eg Winrar
So its in /data/app ... Damn ... Hoping it was on the sdcard ... Too bad

Skins HTC Sense: these are the files APK that install like any other program in the (/data/app.) It does not require permanent root, and do not delete at reboot
But you can move through the application manager to the memory card ...
Here tutorial, how create skins for Sense 2.0:

Hey guys,
Little present for you, the HTC Facebook Chat widget and corresponding .odex file in this little .7z file attached.
I wasn't sure if I should deodex it or not, to decided not to, to be safe.
I wonder if anyone can get this to work on the DHD?

The .odex file goes in the same folder as the widget, ie. apps
I can deodex if you want, but will do it later on, I'm totally shattered currently.
I was thinking someone would implement it into a ROM. Not sure how well all this works.
Forgive me, not had much sleep!
This looks genius, can't wait to see this get picked up by devs. Legen.........
wait for it

This title confused me for 5 secs
Sounds good, I'll wait for someone to flash it and see the results
That worked. Thank you.
Could you explain this bug/fix please? How could you debug this problem?
I'm also interested how you fixed this ))) Oh, btw good job for fix ))
i fixed it by replacing the HTCSetupWizard.apk with the Chinese rom how i found out witch apk was causing the problem was like this i extracted the Chinese rom and the stock rom then i replaced only the app and framework with the stock apps and framework ziped them up and flashed and it worked. HTC sense was working so then a thought i would replace only the htc apps with the ones in the stock rom after trill and error i found all the problems came form HTCSetupWizard.apk once i replaced it and reboot it fixed the htc sense
Is there any way to make it like .apk file so we can install it on non-rooted phone???
Thanx in advance
Cheers
extract the apk from zip.
I tried it, but no luck... it just say "application not installed" I unzipped it with androzip, went to .apk file, clicked install...

Maybe the problem lies in fact that sense and android system is up and running, and .apk file tries to replace setup wizzard...if u lunch setup from recovery, then u don't have sense and android up and running...am I right?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Yes, but you are not rooted, and the stock recovery will not allow it .
You got S-OFF using AlphaRev X but not root? I can understand users wanting to stick with the Stock ROM, but, I am extremely curious about your case.
if you have not unlocked your hboot by AlphaRev X then there is no need for this. but if you have unlocked your bootloader with AlphaRev X and you didn't rooted then you could use SuperOneClick to give you a tmp root
Does the sense fix need to be flashed everytime we install a new rom. Or is it just for the first time.
Anyway good work with this...

youi will need to flash every time you flash a any new sense 2.2.1 rom

After several coocked rom, now I put a stock rom.
With your fix, now the HTC wizard works, but the live wallpapers does not work.
Has any work?
To enable the live wallpapers must flash some zip or just stock your fix?
Thanks!!!

Depends on where you got that ZIP, and what it does. Anyway, It should enable Livewallpapers, but, not the Stock Sense Launcher. Try on alternative launchers like Launcherpro, then it will work.
AFAIK, only Custom ROMs like WildPuzzle and DK Custom ROM allow use of Live Wallpapers on the Stock Sense Launcher.

I installed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722203
Now from menu "changes the background" new item live wallpaper appears, but if I'm going to choose one of the live wallpapers from the list is given me error: "Unexpected termination Android application (processocom.android.wallpaper)".
Please confirm that IS NOT POSSIBLE using wallpaper with a stock ROM.
There is a zip package for stock ROM (ROM coocked always start from the stock ROM...)?
Thanks.

Can anyone upload the Stock HTC Skins (Aluminum, Matte & Serene) for Sense 4.1 ROMs.
All the ones currently available are for Sense 4.0 and are not compatible with Sense 4.1
Either they don't install or after installation don't appear in the Personalize-->Skins Section.
Thanks in advance.

I searched a lot for these 3 skins. I found that these skins come stock with Sense 4.1 ROMs, unfortunately these didn't come with the Rom I'm using.
These 3 skins are present in the /system/app folder instead of /data/app folder where other skins get installed.
So I guess a flashable zip file would be required for it. I flashed a few zip files but couldn't make it to work.
I found a few apk's as well which got installed into the /data/app folder that did show up in Personalize-->Skins section but didn't give all the complete features of these skins.
I tried copying these skins' apk into /system/app folder but couldn't.
I can't connect to HTC hub either so can't even download from there.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S: These skins are present on ROM's such as Nik's project x rebirth in /system/app folder. Currently I'm on [ROM] [Stock] HTC VIVO ICS 4.0.4 Sense 4.1 [En] [Everything works] -
Any Reply..??!!

Hi!
Android GE was recently released for flash (so a lot of people is really happy right now) and I KNOW is very early to ask for mods, but if someone could help with this, that would be great (lol)
I want to have the AOSP browser in GE, I tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173565 which is the mod for sense based roms that works in HOX, HOX+ and One but it did not work for the GE... so I also tried to use the broswer from the nightly of CM (put in system/apps and set permisions) but no luck (well i had to try :silly...
its just my opinion but I always feel the aosp browser more smooth than chrome or firefox etc, even the stock browser in sense (which is almost the same). maybe i need to wait until a deodexed rom?
well thanks in advance for any help
+1 I definitely agree, the AOSP browser is so much better.

Use root explorer (es file manager), set permission of /system to RW and copy the apk over then restart.
thanks, both methods works, they dont have 64 tabs and incognito mode but its ok, thanks again!!!
I tried both methods with no luck. Running rooted HTC one with GE Rom. Does the rom have to be deodexd?
I used ES file explorer to change permission of system/app to rw, moved browser apk into system/app, changed name of BrowserProviderProxy.apk and BrowserProviderProxy.odex with an added "1", then restarted. After boot, everything is back to normal, as though no changes were made. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will try deodexer.
I installed it multiple time just with the AOSP browser installer found in the playstore. This i can guarantee that it will work.
Also i copied the sense browser from a sense zip to the system app folder. just set the permissions for both the broser and the sync apk.
worked for both deodexed and odexed roms, maybe a custom kernel with disabled system nand protection is required. Dont know exactly what i did but its working for me

I'm not sure what's going on. I tried the AOSP browser installer from play store. It goes through the steps, but when it asks me to reboot it does nothing. When I restart myself, it's like nothing happened. I'll try doing it with another ROM.
Just in case someone is having the same problem. Version 4.1.2 of the AOSP browser was not working for me but 4.1.1 worked fine.
