Hello!
I tend to play around with different ROMs and sometimes I have to wipe. There are many backup applications out there (MyBackup Pro, Backup for root users, Astro). But they all backup just the application and not the settings and the data. For instance, if you use the email application K9, after wiping you have to enter all your email accounts again.
In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511835, there is a description how to manually backup the data and settings of 3rd party applications. But it is a manual procedure using ADB. Is there an application to do this in a more convenient way? Or is there a backup application that also backups the data and settings?
Cheers!
Backup for root users backups also data.. You have to chose Data backup, that is different from apk backup

Tried IE7 and FF3.1... unable to find a download shortcut/link for the Backup program on your site...
@Al Edson: You can find Backup for Root Users on the web at
http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.bg.smsbk and if you go to the Market just do a search for Backup for Root and it will popup.
@blackgin: Thank you for your quick answer and specially a BIG thank you for Backup for Root Users. I have to confess that the app is so powerful that I had problems understanding all the functions
I checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=527997 about surviving a data wipe but I still struggled with the many options. Is there a kind of help for the app? If not, I could contribute some text for you to check and use it as you wish.
Cheers!
Attempting to root the phone, but apprently unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone, how would I backup/restore and settings? such as handcent, contacts, apps etc
This might not help since I haven't ran non rooted android in over a year. I do know for the apps you can use app manager or any other type. I use app manager to backup app to sd. Then when when root just install app manager first then mass install all the apps I was running. also handy when setting up app 2sd
use titanium backup to backup everything.... and then restore later...

root is required to run titanium backup...seems he may be in a catch-22.
I assume all of your contacts are sync'd with your google account, yeah? If so, do this...
look up wavesecure in the market. Install it and set it up. Accounts are free for only a week or so longer. This is an app you should have anyways. Once setup, backup your sms/mms. If you don't care about your texts, then ignore this setup. Once you are setup again, install this app. If your phone ever goes missing, you will hate yourself for not using it.
Now move forward with your unlocking, rooting, flashing, etc. Once you are setup, purchase a backup solution (my backup or titanium) and take full advantage of it Of course, setup wavesecure to restore if you backup up your texts.
oops... my bad... guess I wasn't thinking... or reading properly...
Hi,
This is probably a n00b question but I am going to ask anyway.
I want to do the following:
First time I install new Custom Rom I register with a google account and download apps from market. So after downloading some 60 apps I want to unregister my google account and remove my default account. The only way I can remove my default account is by doing a wipe.
So Is there a way I can extract the APKs of all the 60 apps I have installed and then Do a wipe and then install the apks again to regain my 60 apps but no google default account ?
Thanks
Backup / Restore n00b
if youre rooted you can try titanium back up or else I would recommend mybackup pro (theres a trial version) it will back up apks and data (sms/contacts/email etc)
app Manager for the apk. can also select and simultanious Installations (there are also many others, see above).
sms backup & restore. awesome app for sms Backup to SD card or Your Mailacount without using gmail sync. everything is free. there is also a call log app and apn backup app from the same developer!
cheers

I like AndroidCommander
AppBrain will do this too.
You can pull the '.apk's using the "adb pull" command and then push them back afterwards.
Or if you're on a custom ROM you can use apps2sd to store the apps on your sdcard then they will be reimported after you install your new ROM after wipe. This may depend on which ROM your using though, not sure.
Hi guys,
i've just instal CM7 nightlies on my O2x, the question is how can i restored all of my data that have been back up in cwm such as my contact and calendar event?
cheers
You don't.
You need to use something like Titanium Backup for that.
Thanks rusty!
Oo..so right know i need to start from scratch right?
Right now, yes.
Or you could restore your CWM backup, use a backup app, flash CM7 then restore via an app.
AppExtractor can do this, restoring:
- Contacts
- Wifi Settings
- SMS/MMS
- Apps and their Data
- Bookmarks
From any CWM backup files.
Write to the author for Calendar, he is very reactive.
See in Market
The most simple way to restore Calendar/Contacts is to use 'the cloud' google gmail sync, or dedicated backup features in launchers (don't remember in LG Launcher, but in other launchers/home you can backup contact etc)

For contacts and calendar, I would recommend you to save it by default to your Gmail account, whenever you flash a new rom it will sync automatically.
I am using the following for backups.
1. Call log backup & restore
2. SMS backup & restore
3. Titanium backup

Try and restore your CMV backup with Titanium.
I haven't tried it yet, but it should work

This used to be true Rusty, but not anymore. The latest version of Titanium Backup can now restore both apps and data from CWM-backups. Very handy.
I must admit, that will be a proper useful feature.
Total noob here. Hope this is a legit post.
I have rooted my CDMA Hero using Hero Rooter and have superuser permissions. Have successfully flashed CM7 using ROM Manager. Have MyBackup Root installed also and have done nandroid backup also. I cannot figure out how to restore my email settings (pop and exchange) and applications post flash. Google contacts returned fine when signing on/up to Google.
I have gone back to stock rom but would like to stick with CM7. Sorry if I am missing the obvious. How do i get the email and apps back on the new ROM? A recommendation for a contact manager to replace what Sense People widget would be appreciated also
Have you tried Titanium Backup? It's a really awesome program for restoring data with the app.
Agreed, titanium backup has saved me from many a heachade
